damians routine is simply beautiful!

but also killer routines by honza, juho and of course vasek. best routine i've ever seen him perform, so i guess we must be greatful to damian for rejuvinating him.

Yeah Vasek's routine is awesome and a clear winner. I think he really stands out in artistic merit far beyond any of the other routines. The first half of Damien's routine is comparable, but like a lot of the routines, the choreography collapses in the second half. Vasek's really the only person where it's clear that almost every move is planned and cued with the music, rather than just having a "slow section" where you hit slow moves to slow music, then a "fast section" where you hit fast moves to faster music. Although that said, his ending was fairly weird.

Thanks heaps for the fast uploads anyway, really appreciated :)

ye at first i thought the music got cut off but i think its more like you say radek. great routine btw. fits with music, very controlled....
still, i think vasek had his best routine in 2002: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BmIb-GbY5E

you can see that he risks more here and he is more creative. but yo this is just my opinion

I think he may have originally intended to shred off into the distance but decided to play it safe at an certain moment and stop.

Yeah I love that routine from 2002 - which was in the semi-finals I think. I would rate his routine this year as better though - as with many routines this year, in that 2002 routine he has far more choreography at the start of his routine than the end. That's not to say that the choreography at the end of that routine, or the routines in this years finals, was bad - I think it's pretty clear that everybody who was good enough to make it to the finals had really good and balanced routines, but when you compare the choreography throughout Vasek's 2009 finals routine, or the first half of that 2002 routine, I think it really stands out as being even better than other routines or the end of that 2002 routine.

I guess you could say that "artistic merit" is ultimately about judging how well the player uses their footbag skills to express the nature of their music. All the routines in the finals do a fairly good job of expressing the tempo and atmosphere, but I think more than anybody else, Vasek's routines actually express the melody of the music. The first half of Damien's routine was also superb at this - while other people express parts of the melody, but not the whole thing.

I use the term "melody" loosely here - I guess really meaning the individual notes in the music, rather than a musically correct definition of melody.

Congratulations to all the top finishers, and everybody that went dropless in any of the rounds. Yeah Milan! Yeah Vasek!!
Vasek's shred in both routines and circle was very inspiring. After watching circle comps I went and put on my lavers and did alternating clippers and easy guiltless just trying to adjust my form to look like his. I am very happy to see Vasek comfortably play at such an advanced level. 8) Good for you man!!!!! Your the champ!!!!!!

I really enjoyed watching every video in this thread for different reasons.
Thanks for putting it up.

Totally enjoing final rutines.
Specialy the 4 finalists. Milan song is a good choise! XD
Honza is in a very high level and in absolutly clean way.
Damian did a memorable rutine with the song, with nice moves in the end.
And Vasek, of course, did what he know to do. Play footbag!
I'm personally tired of this song (he used it in almost all tournements for finals) but every rutine is diferent and done the same parts with different triks and allways looks nice.

I think too that he wanted to step away from the stage playing, but it's fun that he allways does something else when the song is over. It's just classic Vasek :D

Thanks a LOT for posting all of this so quikcly, we really apreciate this.
And of course thanks for all the staff of berlin, and for putting the streaming for the finals. We lived tha worlds so close!!!

Can't wait for next year ;)

Now that you have mentioned this, i also see a slight resemblance between them :P

Anyway, props to all the finalists for great routines and Huge thanks to Matthieu, who did an excellent job releasing all the videos of worlds events so quickly. Thanks to him, those of us, who didn´t manage to go to Berlin in person could at least see the events there almost immediately after they finished.

Although I was at the tournament all the time and saw the performances, I would like to thank Mathieu for his effort. We should not take it for granted what he was doing for the community.
Regarding routines, hell yeah, it was terrific! The entire tournament was the best IFPA Worldchamps EVER. Next year's organizer will have a very hard job to top the berlin crew.

That may be true and you're entitled to have an opinion, but obviously that's not a factor that judges should take into account at all. Indeed in many similar judged sports competitors use essentially the same routine for their entire career. Routines are supposed to demonstrate the competitors skill in footbag, not their ability to create a new routine every competition. Indeed it would be perfectly legal to copy other people's routines or have somebody else choreograph your routine for you. These actions may be looked down upon by some people, but good judges would put those feelings aside and judge you only on your actual performance.

Thanks a lot Matthieu for putting the vids up.
It was super fun watching the finals and the level
was inspiring. It was good to see Vasek playing so strong
and Damian's routine was in my opinion one of the great
artistic routines of all time. Overall way higher level and energy
in the finals this year, congrats to everyone.

These vids are awesome. I'm so glad there was such a huge turnout! Am I wrong in saying this is some of the best coverage that worlds has seen?

I really enjoyed the Top 10 (Requests) vid. SICK.

Also can't say enough about Matt's Supafly hat.

Damian's routine is the kind of performance that you have to see live to completely grasp how beautiful it is. He has a unique style and perfectly chooses his music accordingly. He goes beyond just playing to the music, he uses the music to create an atmosphere. Simply amazing.

I was judging freestyle finals and ranked Damian's routine 1st in artistic (5.8 ) and Vasek's 1st in technical. All the other judges ranked Vasek 1st in both categories. After watching the routines again, I do not regret that choice.

Wow. Just watched the density phase of circle finals. All the players are so skilled it's just mind blowing, and Vasek can apparently just do whatever the hell he wants with a footbag whenever he wants. On command! holy crap. But the other players were not shut down by his play at all, they shredded so hard.

And routines. I gotta say this is one of the first times I enjoyed many routines. Usually I only really like one or two, but so many players really showed preparation and thought in their routines.

It's like the next great era of footbag just began - that's the way I feel when I watch these vids this year.

edit: THANKS SO MUCH for posting the vids. Really, truly, very very very cool of you to do so. Many props!
Bob R.
