If the Dumbo Arts Fest doesn't accept your proposal, would it be out of line to suggest PSU as a backup location?

I was kinda looking forward to NYC but I'm not organizing it of course. The other issue is I know people were planning to fly in making it tough to get to if it's at PSU.

That is understandable, and we would also love to go to NYC. However, in talking to some of the people who went last year (when the Dumbo bid didn't work out) there was a sentiment that the venue was sub par and could have been better.

I would much rather ECFC be held in a place like NYC that offers public exposure to the sport, however if it doesn't work out, the event deserves better back up venues. PSU will still travel to the event and support it wherever it is held. This was not meant to be a "screw NY, lets hold it here" request, but just an option in case things don't work out (which has happened in the past).

To answer your concerns about travel, Jim Penske flew in to PSU for Jamps without any issues.

For such a large event, I was kinda hoping for better communication between the people attending and the organizers. PSU brings about 10 people to whatever event we chose to travel to, and we need to know event locations and itineraries at least two months in advance in order to get school funding.

I come in peace, and leave in the same manner. Not trying to ruffle any feathers. Let's hope that Dumbo works out and we don't have to worry about backup venues.

Plane tickets bought. A schedule, even a very rough one, would be much appreciated. Safe to assume there will be Routines and Circle? 2 rounds of each? Different days?

I am confirmed for this.

I am pretty new to going to events. Does anyone have crash space? It would be so very much appreciated. Is there a possibility for someone to please pick me up from JFK around 8PM on the 25th of September, or is a cab the way to go? I'll be staying from the 25th till the 30th. My flight back is at 12 PM. I should be able to compensate anyone who is willing to help me out.

So freakin' stoked to meet and shred with you East Coasters.

Also, is anyone bringing their coaching cap?

Welcome aboard Derek, I'm excited to meet you and that more then one person is traveling cross country for this thang! Crash space shouldn't be an issue but I can't say that rides will be easy to get. Most of the club either don't have cars or don't live near JFK. NYC is a very public transit orientated city. Your best bet might be to take a subway but I also might be able to pick you up the evening of the 25th but I will be working on the 30th. I am not familiar with the last bit of terminology but I can guess and I'm sure that you will be taken care of.

I'm going to look into getting more solid details for everyone as far as exact locations, schedules, lodging, party and everything else that needs to get figured out. Sorry for not being more proactive about figuring out the details.

Aww yeah, I wasn't expecting a reply till at least August. Very much looking forward to meeting you, as well! Ya-yuh, hopefully there will be a handful of West Coasters. Sweet, crash space was my main concern, but no más. Figured rides would be a no go, so that's fine, I'm very used to public transportation. If you do end up being able to swoop, I love you. 8) heard Lon and Jim use that terminology, so of course, I had to bite on it. No worries at all, the event is still fairly far off, just happy to get a reply with info. Thanks, dude!

Net will more then likely be happening in commodore perry park which is like 5 blocks from the site of the dumbo arts fest. If we can't get in on the fest then we will hold freestyle there. I am going to try to scout the locations out tomorrow to get a feel for where the best place to play will be. I will also look for a restaurant that might be able to accommodate a gaggle of people plus a murder of crows so we can all go out to dinner after comp on Saturday and maybe Sunday. Do you guys think it would be good to do awards at a restaurant or on site? I'm leaning toward onsite. I know that people didn't love the spot we had at the fest cause it wasn't flat and there was no space to warm up but the exposure was unreal, we had huge crowds all day long. 2 rounds of routines and circle over two days sounds good to me especially if we play at the fest cause we will have time to fill and a show to put on for the crowd. I would say for everyone to show up around noon or earlier so we can get started at 1. It really depends on the number of competitors we have in both inter and open weather we will need to make cuts or not in routines. If you plan on competing please post which comps and what skill level so I can get a feel. If people are interested we can run an unofficial sick 1 and 3 for fun, no prizes or trophies just fun. Also if you are coming please let me know what your accommodation plans are, are all psu people staying in hotel rooms? We have a fair amount of crash space but not unlimited and Ted is working on something for cheap accommodations.

Down for open routine and circle.

I think awards on site makes sense.

I'm going to go ahead an call dibs on some crash space at Bruce's place.

WOOOOO!!

1. Awards onsite is better. Restaurants are noisy, and people are distracted with food and side convos.
2. I definitely want to compete in routines and circle. I'll probably compete in anything else offered too.
3. Housing wise I'm leaning Air BNB if I can find a decent one.

Welcome aboard Mathieu. I checked out the areas, Commodore Barry park is nice and has many spots that would be good for freestyle. The area where we held freestyle two years ago is under construction so I don't know where they are going to put us if they invite us back. I didn't see any restaurants that would be able to accommodate such a large group so I guess we'll just have to split up and forage in smaller groups.

Ben, April and I would like to donate prize bags for this competition.
Would the organizers of the freestyle events accept and distribute these bags? (AKA, do ya want em?) Feel free to reply in a PM.

Does anyone know of any campgrounds around the event location? One that you can pull a camper into? I would like to come up for this event, and camping would probably be the most fun way to go for a weekend.

shit is getting serious, I started to plan a new routine, edited a couple of songs, been over a year I practiced them and even if I never do so good, I have a lot of fun doing it!

Forgot to mention in earlier post, I would gladly use some crash space, my budget is limited for hotel rooms

I'm hyped, after 10 years of freestyle this will be my FIRST ECFC

It would be great if you made it out Nathan, I'm not too sure about where you might be able to camp though... It is NYC after all, I'll look into it.

You can def have some crash space Mathieu, it's crazy that this will be your first one in all these years... We will try not to disappoint you. You might want to reach out to the net players and car pool with them if you don't have anyone riding with you.

Wow, thank you Ivan, Ben and April. You guys are awesome! I think Outsider might be the best person to send them to. I think he's more in charge then I am haha and more organized. He has dealt with sponsors in the past.
