Joulukalenteri Day 15

2020 has been difficult for everyone but our community was especially saddened by the sudden losses of Gary Lautt, Larry Workman and Rick Reese.

In remembrance and recognition of their contributions to footbag, there is no video today.

Please feel free to share any stories or links to photos/videos in the comments. Joulu videos will resume tomorrow.

Not really useful to people already on this thread, but I created a thread of the Joulu videos on Twitter.

Thanks Dante for all the effort this year.

Dominik's combos are crazy, but I've noticed a couple of recent ones might just have some elements I could actually hit!

I'm sure it's been done before, but I've never seen that full symp whirr in that style before. I've got a chance to watch a bunch of these today, so there might be quite a few posts for me on this thread.

Day 24

Bringing the 2020 calendar to a close is a wonderful retrospective interview about the 2018 Double Switch Trials in Salem.

From Ivan Iakimenko:
2 years ago, I was lucky enough to be in the US the weekend that the Boston Shred Crew was hosting the Salem Double Switch Trials. With 2020 being a year spent in lockdown, I had plenty of time to reminisce and look through old footage I had stashed away, and the competition footage from this event came up just in time for the Joulu. I hope you enjoy this short trip to 2018, with our ever gracious host, Peter Bowler and myself to narrate the journey.

In closing the 2020 Joulukalenteri: Thank you so much to everyone who contributed a video! Staying in touch with one another is what keeps communities alive and this year eliminated a lot of face-to-face communication. It was a pleasure to interact with everyone online, however briefly.

A special thank you goes out to Sergio Garcia for facilitating many videos this year! And a BIG thanks to Mike Toolan for his dedicated Instagram posts and writeups for each video. See them all at https://www.instagram.com/theparadoxsymposium. There is also about 3 weeks left in the Scavenger Hunt challenges! Check them out on the paradox.symposium page or on modified (link below).

Of course, the calendar would not have been the same without a Link of the Day challenge. Dominik Simku came through with some absolutely HUGE links that might just stand as a challenge for years to come... thank you Dominik for your amazing work on this!

Finally, the calendar is archived on modified.in: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24128 and
Dan Boyle has also documented the videos with notes here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1341 ... 27136.html

Happy Holidays everyone! Here's to a brighter 2021. :)

Thank you Dante for making this happen. 2020 was such a batshit insane year, having Joulu happen was reassuring and comforting.

Thank you to everybody who submitted videos! Shred-wise the Bear/Dustin one was my favorite. Content-wise Ivan's Salem documentary was amazing. I loved the format and feel like I could watch a hundred of them, though I bet it was a ton of work to produce.

Thank you Dom for the crazy LOTD. I'm looking forward to trying some of them in the distant future once I've healed up (and leveled up!).

Just had the chance to watch the final day video, that's such a cool format. It would be fun to have that sort of thing over some old tournaments - something like Berlin Worlds where the organisers are talking about this and that, or Vasek talking about a routine and how it went. Looked great, I remember when the videos came out and it looked like a lot of fun back then. Interesting seeing how it wasn't all fun and games though.
