Wow the christmas ale sounds really old school Cameron. But definitely old school style beers are coming back strong at the moment (in Tasmania anyway :P)

Some friends of mine and I are considering starting a microbrewary at some stage in the future - they're much more into home brew than I am but I'd be happy to be involved if we're making some quality beer. It would be a cool business to get into anyway. I had a nice chat the other day with a woman who runs the Hazzards brewary in tasmania (small boutique beer brewary) although I think she's just sold the business. It's definitely a growing market.

Yeah, I"d say it was inspired by the beers from 2000 years ago, before hops were discovered.

It costs about 300,000 USD to start a microbrewery, which is the type of money 'angels' throw around like loose change in the bay.

woah that's a lot. Is that in getting the right equipment etc. or in license costs and stuff like that?

That's going to cover your rent for the first year, purchase of a complete brew and barreling facility, and enough space to handle 30 customers.

You can do it for less, but that is the amount that I have been quoted by several people. You want to have enough capital to last long enough to build clients.

ALmost gone. My elevator has been broke since decemeber, and I'm almost out of beer.

Hopefully they get the machine running quick so I can get back into the brewing.

Both the ipa and dipa beers turned out, but weren't exactly what I wanted. Perfect head, killer aroma, and the initial taste were all spot on. The body was lacking a little bit, and didn't balance out the hops like I wanted.

The elevator has been fixed. Homemade Barley preserves in collectible glass containers should be available for barter in a few months.

Do you mean a local grain elevator for your barley? Or are you on the 5th floor and didnt want to carry up all that heavy stuff?

I didn't want to carry everything up and down stairs. It's a big effort with the elevator.

I'm currently drinking two new brews for the summer

UltraLight Ale -- A brew with less flavor than the water it's made from, best served with fresh ginger and consumed by the case. This would be made from extra washings from a much stronger ale.

Brown Robustito -- A less robust version of the winter brown robusto. Smooth, rich, and well balanced flavour profile. Creamy head last for hours. A marvelous brew.

In the aging room :
California Brown
American ale with honey
Red Ale with oats
Ginger Beer with Paradice Seeds

I should have some good stuff in stock by july, the beer isn't quite ready to barter with yet. I think a few more weeks of maturing will do the beer well.

Ps. If you need label designs, I'd be more than happy to do it free of charge.
