Need help with stitching techniques

I need to know which techniques I should be using for the pent to hex stitch as well as the hex to hex transition stitch.

When joining the pent to hex is it best to use two stitches on each side, three on each, or three and four? Ive seen all mentioned but i dont know which will make for the ...

Stitching looks good. fabric looks like ultrasuede that I've seen in the past but I'm no expert. I recommend shiny side out and furry side in. nice stuff.

I used a weird type of fabric. Can anyone tell me what type it is?
Im thinking microsuede or something but it does not look as soft and cuddly as ultrasuede. It is dual sided, shiney on one side and slighty furry on the other.
