Flat Feet Insoles

Post by sampotter »

I've been dealing with having flat feet for a while now and I think it's taking its toll on me the longer I play footbag. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good, reliable insole for flat feet?

Thanks,

Custom insoles are your best bet. They are good for you but, you could lose some of your balance once you get too used to them. You might be better off finding a supportive shoe for everday living and just deal with flat feet while u play footbag.

I have some that my doctor gave me. They said the insoles last a year or something. They are pricey and cost 38 bucks. They don't fit in my running shoe however. They seem to work fine.

I thought that I had flat feet about half-a-year ago, but the "school nurse" (what is it called...) said that my foot arches are just quite low. She didn't put me on an orthopedist (sp?) but I bought some sport insoles from a shop, started running again, fixed my standing position and did some excercises like picking up things from the floor with my toes to strenghten my foot arches. Oh, and I went to a sport shop and got some arch support "pads" for free samples.
They have worked for me, I used them in NBs but not anymore with Lavers.

Ahh, this is very interesting to me because I don't have completely flat feet but very low arches. What exactly did you do to correct the arches of your feet? Did it work? I've been walking with my arches pulled up and knees in the correct position... Is there anything you did that really helped? What sort of exercises were you doing? Guide me!

Mostly I think the "active standing" I guess. I noticed that my standing position was a bit like ice hockey goalies' position and then I fixed it, just put more weight on my heels and tried to raise the arches as much as possible.

I've heard that the proper insoles do make them "normal" when the shoes are on, but what I've heard they don't fix the problem. So you have to do exerices too.
What I did were:
- picking little things from the floor with my toes (barefeet)
- *this was hard* standing on one foot; the knee isn't straight. At the same time you have to raise the arch.
- there was one exercice more but I guess it wasn't that important because I can't remember it.

What I call "active standing" and running/walking are the most important things that helped for me. I did these raising arches exercices at school, in the bus, at home when I was watching TV, etc. - they are good too.

I also lifted myself on my toes and did it like 20 times in a row.

Hey Sam, I now remember the third (or is it fourth?) thing I used to do to get my arches better. It's actually the best of them.

- press your toes with your hands against the floor and try to raise the toes.
I usually did this while watching TV or like that, usually first did it with the other foot and then with the other.

One more thing: walk more barefeet and think are your shoes good enough. I had skate shoes that I kept the laces open for 3-5 years ago cause it was fashion here, but that was one part that made my feet bad.

Thanks for all of the techniques! For the last one are you saying you want to use your hands to apply pressure to the toes as you try and flex them in the manner that raises the arch?
