College and Footbag

Post by Bander87 »

Well, I'm starting my senior year in High School and havn't got a clue where I want to go and/or do. I though that as long as I have fun and get a good education, I'll be happy.

Is there any colleges that you guys attend with footbaggers? I'm prefering anything from the middle to east of the country. I'm thinking that somebody will say that I could start my own scene, but how sure is that going to work out? I do imagine though a lot of people would kick at college.

go to a college in boston...i dont know why more footbaggers dont. even though you would 10 to 1 be the only footbagger at the college, myself and a small dedicated core of boston shredders could fill in the gaps. boston university, boston college, umass...lotsa good colleges!

Brown is a really nice and fun college, and is also like a 50 minute commute from Boston.

Come study in Australia! I'm at The University of Sydney, I'd also recommend The University of New South Wales and the University of Technology (UTS is especially good for Media and Communication.) All are in Sydney, all are highly rated internationally, and best of all they're in Sydney - good beer, the best beaches, awesome weather, and a growing footbag scene, a good international student community, pretty good $$$exchange rate.
I'd also recomend The University of Melbourne.

well just to give ya an idea:

i go to marshall university in west virginia. I kick in various locations about 2 or 3 times a week, weather permitting. I'm a senior this year so i won't be here next year when you would be going to school, but going to a place where there are kickers (i think) is a good idea. there are NO kickers here. and despite me playing here for 4 years here i've never gotten anyone interested enough to play for over 3 months.

therefore, if kicking is a primary concern, you can't count on gathering people. however it is probably better exposure for the sport :)

RIT in Rochester, NY now has a crew of about 5 or 6 freestylers, about 20 random circle kickers, and the Rochester area also adds 4 or 5 other freestylers, and lots of circle kickers.

RFA is an active crew that makes just about every event on the East Coast.

Come to beautiful Missoula, Montana and attend the University of Montana with the Missoula Footbag Alliance. It's a chill town and an even chiller university. A lot of the people love to watch us shred here at campus and at Caras Park or at Pattee Creek when we kick there. We've got a ton of great programs and degrees for you to choose from. Yo, come to Mohawk up here in Ontario. I've been trying to get some kids into it. They're having a net match next week (I can't attend) but I don't think they actually know it as net. Ah well.

NYC has some of the best shred spots, especially at Columbia University. There's a trio of footbaggers known especially as 'DMX' () whom I think are known as Daryl, Matt, and Xander. They're pretty high level add players that can shred with the best of them indefinitely. Its worthy to check it out.

Then there's several other spots that aren't that much revering really. Hunter College, a CUNY, is one, but we only have about 2-3 people that are pretty good in our freestyle game, but somewhat average compared to the NYFA crew that shreds at Union Square. Brooklyn College is also good I hear, although I haven't seen the action there yet.

So in conclusion, NYFA and Columbia University, the best in NYC. We also have people from Connecticut and New Jersey that shred with NYFA on occasion on the weekend, especially Jon "The Outsider" Schneider. So its worth a look.
