I pretty much wasted yesterday. Here's how it went down:
-Class till 1 pm
-Slept from 1 pm to 5 pm
-Did homework till 6:30 pm so my legs would be awake for footbag (only real productive time)
-Played footbag from 6:30 to 8:30
-Watched Astros game till 2 am

On the plus side, the footbag session was really on.
-18 tiltless to start
-Spinning practice throughout session: 20 spinning clippers flipside, 10 spinning clippers strongside
-long run (12+?) with pickup BSOS, far pickup BSOS, and paradox mirage BSOS-- what made that run so much of a highlight is that I went into it with the hope of hitting all those BSOS, and I was able to control every contact and do exactly what I wanted; one of the first examples of me controlling what I do with the footbag, rather than some sort of chaotic dance
-a few barrages
-15 tiltless with my abshire-- it's not really very broken in yet, since I haven't spent almost any time with it

There was also a very long run that I had, the goal being to do diving clipper BSOS with paradox illusion BSOS. It was mostly guiltless, and though I wrote it down right afterwards, I know it's not completely correct (it's really hard to remember everything in order and with the right links):
mirage > clipper > paradox illusion > ss butterfly > diving clipper > butterfly > diving clipper > paradox illusion > pickup > butterfly > drifter > osis > near pickup > mirage > ss clipper > drifter -- 16 moves, 10 guiltless

I also recently took a bunch of pictures of pretty trees around campus, so I will post links to those when I finally upload them.

And since I like devulging and analyzing my personal life, I still haven't talked to that girl. I'm banking on during fencing on Thursday, though if that doesn't hash out I'll probably bite the bullet and go visit her room. I have to say though, waiting 2 weeks (somewhat unintentionally) really has helped me center and establish priorities. I can see why when someone's angry it's suggested to count to 10 before reacting.

Played footbag yesterday for a short while. For some odd reason, every racquetball / squash court filled up. There are 8 racquetball and 2 squash courts (there's a difference, I found out), and usually only 2 or 3 or so are being used at any given time. However, yesterday was an exception. I got kicked out of 3 different courts before finally giving up and packing up. In the short 20 minutes period during which I played, I did 10 spinning clippers flipside and 5 spinning clippers strongside, along with a run of 11 tiltless (I wasn't playing that well, which is why I didn't mind that much being kicked out of every court).

Today, unfortunately, I didn't play. I went to fencing, and as you may recall, had planned on talking to that girl. Unfortunately, there was a Calc 1 and a Calc 3 test during the time we practice, so she wasn't at fencing. Oh well, another week of patience. :) I did, however, get to spar against the one kid that beat me before, and I owned him. I found that, much as I expected, I just needed to wait him out and wait for him to make a mistake. His mistake was recurring: after his lunges he waits a second too long before recovering. All I had to do was lure him into lunging, and then attack him while he wasn't prepared. It felt good to get even.

I went running instead of footbag because after fencing I didn't feel like I had the energy. It seems like if I force myself to go play, I don't have any fun and I usually play crappy. Playing half as much (i.e. every other day) but having fun and doing well seems to make a hell of a lot more sense.

Oh, and a real highlight of my day was that a girl from the third floor of my dorm came and asked me for dating advice. If I haven't mentioned it, my mom is a guidance counselor and as a kid I wanted to grow up to be one too. As a result, I like helping people, and especially on an issue like that, because I've spent a lot of time thinking about it; I feel like I know what should be done and said, even if I can't always come through with it myself. So anyways, that was really cool. :)

Didn't play footbag today-- that's two days in a row. :? One of my roommates is quite sick and I was noticing a bit of a sore throat, so I didn't want to chance it. Plus, I didn't feel too much like it-- had homework I'd prefer to do. As a result, I am done with a lot of homework. :D I'm looking forward to some footbag tomorrow though.

What was cool was that I went hammocking with a girl from my dorm-- the same one that asked me about dating advice yesterday. We talked from 11 pm to about 2:30 am (I just got back) about dating, life, philosophy, and everything else existential. It was a lot of fun and it's always enjoyable for me to hear what other people believe and to try to elucidate, both to the other person and to myself, exactly what it is I believe. So overall, it was a very fun time.

About these becoming more like blog posts than footblog posts, sorry... but not really. I like writing what I think and feel, and I enjoy looking back on what I wrote previously, whether it be a day ago or 3 weeks. Still, I'll try to include the footbag whenever possible, so here's hoping that tomorrow it's possible. :)

Woke up around 11 am and went and played footbag right away. Considering this, I didn't play all that bad (not that well either, but I hadn't played in a couple days).

-butterfly > illusion BSOS
-far pickup BSOS
-diving clipper BSOS in an 8+ tiltless
-3 barrages BS-- I really suck at these now since I haven't worked on them in forever; I'll try to hit 1 more every 2 sessions, so 4 for tomorrow
-mirage > toe whirl BS-- that's a really sweet-feeling link
-20 spinning clippers flipside, 10 strongside-- they're getting pretty easy now, not to the point that my flipside can go into runs very well, but it's getting better
-spinning paradox mirage first and only try
To end the session:
-3 sidewalks BS
-3 ripwalk BS
-3 blurs BS
-3 blizzards BS (with blizzard > op clipper > blizzard)

I did this because I have been completely neglecting my stepping. I can tell it's worse than it was, but oh well.

Near the end of my session I tried toe drifters (for the first time in like two months) and found that they are now somewhat doable. By this I mean that I can still do them pretty proficiently strongside, and my flipside I was actually hitting alot (made 3 out of 4, at least). We'll see if they're doable and fun next time.

After my session, I had to rush back and shower before work study. 3 hours of work study, that is. At least I got a LOT done, so now I don't really have any homework, just studying for my upcoming calc test.

Peter and I had another brat fry today, so that was fun. Good times and good food. We missed the shuttle though, and had to walk back with a gallon of milk in each hand. That sucked hard.

Brian: I'll be calling you Tuesday night after 9 pm so you god damn better be there. :) Now, onto mi vida extraordinaria. Things are going quite well, in some senses, and quite okish in others. Dare I explain? Oh yes-- I DARE. So to begin with, most classes at WashU update your grades halfway through the semester to let you know how you're doing, and so I went online and checked those. Although my spanish grade wasn't up (though it's either an A or a B I would assume), my Calc 3, Gen Chem, Gen Chem Lab, and Physics grades are all currently As. That's a good thing. I was expecting mostly As, but am glad to see my hard work is paying off. I feel motivated to continue to study hard for my tests and maintain my grades.

I also recently have been worried that I might have gained weight. So today, after footbag, I went and weighed myself in the locker room and found that... I've lost 8 pounds since getting here. Wtf. The really weird thing is that I've put on some muscle mass too, from doing crunches and pushups (a wee bit each day). That was completely unexpected, but I'm totally fine with it. ^_^

Now onto the not-so-amazing-middle-of-the-road stuff. I finally got to talk to that girl from my fencing class. Ironically enough, it was in line for burritos. How is that ironic? It isn't-- but I like to keep you guessing. We talked about 3 minutes and it was just pretty much name, hey we're in the same residence hall, what's your major, and what's going on with fencing (she hasn't been there in 2 weeks cause of tests and stuff). Strangely, when I looked on facebook like 2 hours later, she had friended me. It likely means nothing, but still seemed like a good sign. And since I wouldn't be seeing her in fencing this Thursday (I have a physics test), I figured I'd take the opportunity while it was fresh and ask if she wanted to do something to get to know each other better; the rationale was that it's kinda odd to be "friends" on facebook and only know someone's name and major. I think it makes sense, but perhaps(read: probably) I'm easy to read. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see. I'm now subscribing to the belief that I've made a fool of myself so often and so well that I shouldn't be afraid to do it again. Others would call that being a "risk-taker".

Onto footbag! No session yesterday, as social things came up. It was cool though. Today, however, I did kick.
-almost pickup > butterfly > far pickup BSOS in a 10+ tiltless-- it was still a nice string
-12 flipside spinning clippers, 6 strongside spinning clippers-- did diving clipper > spinning clipper BS at one point
-11 tiltless
-4 barrages BS-- also done from diving clipper BS
-13 tiltless
-osis > whirl BS-- almost BSOS; seems to be only somewhat hard now
-3 blurs BS-- one run was as follows:
-illusion > op clipper > blur > osis > flip paradox whirl > paradox mirage > footed toe whirl
-11 tiltless
-3 sidewalks BS-- did butterfly > sidewalk > repeat and drifter sidewalk BS
-3 ripwalks BS-- ss butterfly > ripwalk BS in there
-3 schmoes-- includes butterfly > schmoe BS and schmoe > op clipper > schmoe

Part of the reason there's random tiltless runs in there is that I've initiated a system where, if it comes to mind, I stop whatever I'm working on and have to hit a 10+ tiltless run. This will take longer when I can't do it well, but eventually it should be like swatting away a fly (hopefully). And as you can probably see, I am working on stepping again cause it now is starting to get sucky.

Over and out.

No footbag on Tuesday, unfortunately-- too much stuff to do. Today however, I did get it in. I am finding that if I play every day, I play poorly every day. If I play every other day, I have a good session every time I play, and I enjoy it a lot more. It seems like that might not be a bad policy to pursue then.

-10 tiltless with butterfly > ripwalk to start the day
-ss illusion > mirage > op clipper > blur > osis > butterfly > spinning osis > something
-spinning butterfly > osis > butterfly > merkon > 2+ other stuff
-10 spinning clippers flipside, 5 spinning clippers strongside-- diving clipper > spinning clipper > repeat strongside, diving clipper > spinning clipper flipside
-23 tiltless but with 4 far legovers-- I just kept doing them for some reason, even though I hate far legovers (cause my arms go up like a referee declaring a touchdown)
-14 tiltless immediately after with 2 far legovers flipside (on purpose to balance out the previous run)
-11 tiltless
-3 barrages BS
-19 guiltless with 1 guilt-- OMFG; mostly BOPs, whirls, and drifters
-10 tiltless
-10 tiltless
-torque > op clipper > torque on a whim-- the trick really is to spin more, it makes the move so easy!
-214 consecutives with my abshire to end the day

Oh, and apparently that girl I sorta liked started going out with someone between the time I talked to her and like yesterday, so oh well. I'm getting more and more fine with that kinda thing.

As I said above, I'm gonna try the every-other-day strategy. My only worry is that I might gain weight if I try to husband my energy for kick-ass sessions. We'll see how it holds up. In all likelihood, it'll become more of a 'kick when I feel like it' thing, which makes the most sense, but this week is tests and stuff so I can't follow that very easily. Speaking of tests, I had my physics midterm today, and it was pretty cool. There was one problem on it that was AWESOME (really neat), so I'll either try to get that page from the professor or I'll write out the question on a sheet of paper and put it online. It's not exceptionally hard or exceptionally practical, but it's still one of those little things in physics that is interesting and independent of roughly everything (mass, radius, gravity, etc.). I liked it a lot. :)

Other than that, no real big news. I'm hoping to kick tomorrow, and the girl I'm getting a ride home with for Christmas is going to teach me to drive a manual sometime before then, which I look forward to.

Oh, and I watched "Red Dragon" with Peter today, which was a really intriguing movie. Anthony Hopkins is a god among actors. Seriously (Edward Norton was damn good too, but holy crap).

Played a bit o' f-bag today. I call it 'f-bag' because it was 'f-ing horrible'. Trust me-- I played like crap for a while. I couldn't get 10 tiltless forEVER. 10 tiltless shouldn't take more than like 3 tries, so I can only assume I suck. Anyways, I gave up and kicked with my (still not broken in cause I'm not too committed to it) Abshire, and after a while went back to the f-bag.

-10 spinning clippers flipside, 5 spinning clippers strongside
-10 tiltless
-(from left toe) pickup > illusion > mirage > op clipper > drifter > same side butterfly > diving clipper > far legover > mirage > butterfly > butterfly > whirl
-4 barrages BS
-spinning clipper > butterfly BS twice; spinning clipper > butterfly BSOS-- as always, it's easy as butter strongside, but my flip spinning
makes flipside not kablamo
-spinning clipper > paradox mirage BS-- see above for bitching :)
-paradox illusion BSOS in a 9 tiltless (with 1 tilt)
-drifter > far pickup BSOS in a 10ish tiltless
-bubba > toe whirl BS-- just to make sure I still can

And so the session comes to an end. However, I decided that, since my stepping has been phased out of my game, that I shouldn't devote all my time to getting long tiltless, but some of my time should be spent on doing tiltless runs with stepping in them.

I also had my math seminar midterm today, which consisted of 3 problems and was perhaps the hardest test I've ever taken. But at least everyone else has made similar remarks, so I should be ok. This weekend, though, I have to study for an in-class spanish essay on machismo (sexism) which is based entirely off this metaphysical short story and for my chem test on Tuesday. This in addition to the normal assorted homework. Come Tuesday night though, I'll be good until the following Wednesday, when my Spanish test is. :/ So the point is, I'll be kept thoroughly busy by my homework and studying.

(note: I will try to get that math solution up tomorrow; I haven't had too much time)

Yeah, though I have to ask my parents to be super sure. I'll put that on my list of things to do.

Anyways, I only got about 6 hours of sleep last night because I was preparing for my Saturday chem lab, which I had heard was extremely difficult (Synthesis and Spectroscopy of Coordination Compounds). Due to my preparation, however, I rocked the lab hardcore. I'm pretty psyched about that.

I had hoped to get a bit of sleep when I came back from work study (which is right after chem lab), but Brandon was playing World of Warcraft so that was a no-go. Instead, I sat on the computer about 20 minutes before Brandon received a phonecall from our other roommate, Aayush. Background info: Aayush has been going out with a girl for the last two weeks, and they have planned at least 4 times to watch "Alice in Wonderland" in our room, and every time the girl breaks it off for some or another reason-- homework, work, etc. Well, she decided she wanted to watch it today so Brandon and I had to get out of the room within like 10 minutes and stay out for an hour and a half. Although I was tired as hell, the only thing I could think of doing that would fill that allotted time was footbag, so off I went. I played surprisingly well for a man with 6 hours of sleep.

-15 tiltless for my second run of the day
-(from clipper) spinning toe delay BSOS
-a lot of spinning clippers-- I started trying to do spinning clipper > spinning clipper, which I did strongside quickly enough, and footed flipside many times (never sealed :()
-butterfly > spinning clipper > near pickup > repeat
-paradox illusion BSOS
-drifter > ripwalk BSOS-- as per Henry's blog :P

I decided that instead of doing bubba's all the time, it would be helpful for my stepping and my pickups to replace bubbas with blurry pickups.

What's strange is that after I finished kicking, I was pretty bugged. I haven't been kicking as well as I'd like, and there's so much homework and studying going on, I just felt like kicking the shit out of myself. So after having played footbag for an hour and a half, I went and ran 3 miles. It wasn't harder than just running dry though, because I was all warmed up and loose. However, my legs definately feel it now.

Along similar lines, yesterday I broke my single-set sit-up record with 250 situps in one set. I felt like I could have gotten to 300, but I didn't want to cramp up or anything. Now on to homework.

Last night James and I planned on going to Center Court (the on-campus buffet) at 11:20 am for brunch. I woke up this morning fully expecting him to have not remembered / not woken up, and was very surprised to be proven wrong. James, Winston, and myself then headed to Center Court. They both ate like 2 plates worth of food, whereas I ate 7. <8] As a result, I didn't eat anything for the rest of the day (and am still full 12 hours later!)

I studied chem, went to chem study group, studied more chem, and then took the chem practice exam 2. I ended up getting a 92%, so I should be good for the test, but I still plan on studying tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday before the test, to be sure.

I didn't play footbag, since at this point I value my chem grade more than the enjoyment I would get from the exercise. Monday I probably won't kick either, though I hope to on Tuesday. Once Tuesday rolls by, things should get back to normal.

Yeah, it wasn't a very interesting day. Oh well.

EDIT: I'm also now among the 100 most prolific posters on here. :/

Yesterday's Session (10/8):
-butterfly > butterfly > osis > butterfly BS
-butterfly > butterfly > osis > repeat several times-- need to work that to perfection
-10 spinning clippers flipside, 5 strongside-- I instituted a new rule that I don't count my spinning clippers as sealed unless they're followed by at least two moves (so I don't just do one, catch, do another, etc.)
-14 tiltless all genuine-- kinda cool ; ss mirage > ss mirage to start
-inspiring run with paradox illusion BSOS fluidly
-5 reverse swirls BS-- back to back (meaning BSOS as close together as possible, in this case with a clipper or butterfly between them)
-butterfly > butterfly > blur BS
-(from left foot clipper) diving clipper > pickup > butterfly > diving clipper > pickup > op clipper > osis > diving clipper > osis > diving clipper
-ss illusion x 4-- probably could get more
-butterfly x 4 > osis BS-- why do I suck so much at infinities now? it's like I'm degressing everywhere
-torque > butterfly > osis > BS

I stopped doing barrages because I noticed my ACLs were hurting. I decided to supplant the barrages with reverse swirls. Everything needs a lot of improvement-- stepping, spinning, ducking, diving, butterflys.

In other news, the chem test went well. Or, well... not well, but weller than for others. :) It was like 20 pages long and somewhat hard, so almost no one finished (I've met 1 person that did). I got to all but the last question, so I did 95/100 points of the test and was thorough and sure of a lot of those. The test is always based on a normalized curve, so the fact that almost no one finished really should help. I'm shooting for an A, but we'll see how it goes.

I got my calc test back on Tuesday and got a 66%, which was an A. The test had been 3 questions with 2 parts each and was obviously very tough (33% was a B). The class is supposed to be ridiculously tough though, and the grade isn't an indication of how much we've learned-- I feel I learn more in that class than any other. Interestingly, we do more interesting physics in my calc seminar than in my physics class.

And yeah, I know I still haven't posted that physics problem, but it's on my to do list.

BRIAN: we definately should watch that movie you mentioned on messenger-- sorry I couldn't respond before you had to go

Thanks for the kind words, Henry. :) And Matt (Cross), I do put my signature in all my posts except in my footblog, since I thought that would get a bit repetitive (although I accidentally unchecked it in a discussion post yesterday and couldn't edit it back in, perhaps that's what you were referring to?).

Anyways, I don't have time to play footbag today as I'm tying up the loose ends of the homework I didn't do while I prepared for my chem test. To give a better picture, I didn't do my homework from Monday (due Wednesday) until Tuesday night after the chem test, since I used the previous time to study. Now, tonight I have to do my math weekly homework that is due tomorrow (Thursday), since I normally would do that on Tuesday night. With luck though, Thursday will mark the culmination of my efforts and I will be able to return to my regular footbag pattern. In other words, it's gonna be a boring night of homework.

Two notable things, however:
-I got a 60/60 on my physics test, as anticipated :)
-I can give you a ride Henry, and we'll even pick you up at your house, assuming it's reasonably easy to find. The only downside, to some extent, is you're gonna have to pay for your own meals. C'est la vie.

And, as promised, the physics question

and my house is pretty easy to find. Pretty small town. My street is right off the main drag.

I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how much do you recommend i bring?

If I were you, I'd bring around $50, although you're not likely to spend that much (food shouldn't cost near that much, but just to be safe and all). If you plan on buying anything else, like a new bag, obviously account for that. It'll be cool having you. :)

Today I got back my chem test. I had studied very hard for it in the hopes of improving on the really low A I got the first time. Well, I got a really high B (last time I got the lowest score for an A, this time the highest score for a B). In essence, then, I actually did worse.

I was pretty bugged by this, and so later when I was shredding in the racquetball courts (and sucking [as usual]), I punched the wall hard several times with both fists. I didn't realize how hard until my knuckles started swelling a bit. They still hurt :? (yeah I do dumb shit often)

-10 spinning clippers flipside, 5 strongside
-spinning clipper x 2 both sides 2 tries-- remember I couldn't hit that a week ago or something?
-gyro mirage BS pretty easily-- spinning is paying off
-5 reverse swirls BS-- the problem is a lack of follow-through on my flipside, I think
-ss butterfly > butterfly > repeat BSOS-- very unrepresentative; I had trouble hitting the repeat by itself
-diving clipper > schmoe BS
-whirl BSOS-- "hey", you say to yourself, "you've been doing that for like 5 months!" OH WAIT. I JUST KEEP GETTING WORSE. My run length and spinning are improving and everything else seems to be degenerating
-11 tiltless-- pickup > op clipper > paradox illusion > mirage > butterfly > ripwalk > osis > paradox mirage > something something something

So almost all my tests are done. I just have spanish next Wednesday to prepare for. I can't wait to play some videogames and relax.

Eagerly awaiting Thanksgiving Break,
Zach

I didn't have time to play footbag again. Man, this midterm shit is the balls. In the little downtime I had I went to the library though. Considering I work there, it's surprising I've never even gone up to the second or third floor. It seems like a pretty schwag locale. :) When class was done I slept....

My knuckles still hurt and the middle knuckle is a little purple. Heh. Guess that's a lesson then. Also, since I think I forgot to mention this before, in the last 3 days my leg muscles have started to twitch. I think it was mostly a result of my not playing footbag/ getting any excercise during the chem prep period. Either that or stress (though I don't feel that stressed, but it could be subconscious). No matter the cause, it is a bit freaky and somewhat annoying. Luckily it has more or less stopped.

There's a fencing tournament on Sunday. It's only for people that have been fencing for less than a year, and it seems like I should do well. I think I have been able to find the majority of my large mistakes and learned the patience and strategy I need. I can honestly say I've only lost once since we started, in a match against a guy named Greg from third floor. It was about a month ago that I lost, and since then I have found what weakness he exploited and have proceeded to beat him handely (like 10-1, though the score wasn't really kept track of too much) 3 times since then. On Thursday I even fenced someone from the club who has been doing foil for a lot longer than me (he's a 2nd year grad student who has been fencing since his undergraduate time) and I beat him. All this helps bolster my confidence, but it might also make me really upset if I get beaten early on Sunday. I don't think anyone will get me by their skill; much more likely I'll lose by fencing poorly and making dumb mistakes. I hope that doesn't happen. :?

And I would be curious to know if anyone actually read this. Leave a post or something. You can blog your day here too if you want! :D
