It's about time.

Post by bluntobj3ct »

my first real sessions included late night shred with brett dierker and dave morawski. it started one night at metlox, we ate sushi, dave showed me some legovers and mirages and taught me delay a la toe ...
college followed soon after and i moved a couple hours south to san diego, with school came lavers and a mr. sandbag. thus i began my epic quest-

im starting my footblog pretty early on i suppose, as i am not yet even tiltless :), but at least this way fewer people have to hear me rant about the DLO i hit earlier that day... every day...

now theres a one stop update!

ill include a preamble as a way of getting up to speed on my (non) skills.
before i went to college i had barely gotten the toe delay down. after i visited home and played some footbag with brett and dave again, i invested in some overnight lavers and mr. sandbag and was finally hitting mirages and legovers, avoiding illusions at all costs and being mocked by any traces of a clipper.
i was stoked one day to hit symp mirage and symp pixie both first try, in front of peets coffee with brett. since people had said i had a good dexing movement i threw up a few DLOs and was surprised to come pretty close. by the end of the night i hit DLO and dave hit flail i think for one of the first times. brett was always kicking ass at pixie sets, hes got a fluid style.
but im a one hit wonder. i couldnt so much as throw anything in a string, and it was almost like guilt sitting on my shoulder ;)

so in a thread about filler for smaller bags, someone noticed my signature, "@sdsu- looking for homies to shred with" and i recieved a reply from richard abshire inviting me to shred with them by the mission bay rollercoaster that weekend. i got in contact with em, it took me an hour and a half to goddamn find the place because im retarded that early in the morning (10:30AM).
so i got there at about 12:30 and i introduced myself to them both.

it was the best session of my life to date, (not that there are many hah). they were both so supportive of me and gave tons of good hints and challenges. rich made me hit illusions for the first time in my life, and told me to drill my clipper. by the end i was hitting illusions, mirages, ss ill., ss. mir., legovers, pickups in long strings. he said i should hit 2 weak clippers in a row before every run, which is a good idea but itll be a while before i do any runs ;).
i also hit clipper>mirage and tried for clipper DLO a few times. aaron and rich were going for five 5s in a row, they each hit some pretty amazing shit that merited celebration that i could never describe, haha. surging sets are sick, as ive noticed watching aaron throw em.
we played with like 4 different bags, testing out rich's different sizes/ fill ratios. the bags were amazing, like i told somebody i swear to god they were like +3 to focus and a 5% dexterity bonus.

perhaps the best part was my beautiful mini that rich made special for my newb ass, bright red pents on brown like i had requested 2 days before :)

damned good times.

finally i should touch on the two sessions ive had in the two days since saturday. I found a super chill, well lit little courtyard thats behind the entrance hall to my dorm (so i dont have to swipe-card in and out). its next to laundrymat building, and totally secluded because its in an akward little nook next to the pool. not that that means anything to anyone else except for me it means 24 hour shredability.

i took some rips last night and put my laundry in, walked outside and aroudn the corner to my spot, geared up with my pod and went all out for a laundry sesh. break half-way through to put clothes in the dryer, i drilled all the stuff rich and aaron had showed me and was thrilled with the results.

my clipper is much much improved, almost consistant on my right side, i hit clipper>mirage both sides, as well as clipper>legover, clipper>op legover, and clip>pickup.

i also splashed aroudn in the shallows of the ocean of butterflies, i almost hit butterfly>DLO in a little string i threw up, whereupon i tried again and immediately was too tired to get close again.

i took my laundry out and went up and passed out pretty soon after taht, woke up with shred on teh brain and had a little hour sesh before my class at 12

it was super good, because i was reminded of all the new stuff i tried last night, and i was furthermore relieved to have not promptly lost my progress, hah

i also played around with pixie sets because i talked to brett this morning and he hit terrage? (pixie set ss mirage). frickin pixies. my left blows but i managed a few both sides. i think the key is a super low set, and super close in, so the bag can go behind your knee instead of your ankle, where it will invariably get caught and fly off to the side. i plan on drilling those along with clippers, hopefully it will greatly expand my repetoire as its mixed in with what i got. i plan on making good friends with the clipper/butterfly/osis situation.

ok im out

ok short summary cause im pressed for time:

played like 8 hrs between the 30th- 31st. had some really really fun and long sessions at my dorm, my secret spot, my frat, anywhere with light, etc.

getting close to tiltless i believe, funk suggested strings of 10, ive been doing strings of 10 in a row and trying to change it up and cover everything i can remember.

sometimes i can hit clip> dlo or infinity at the end of a short string... when im lucky, but its hard to keep going afterwards i find, i need to keep goin on those

i also hit dimwalk strongside and footed it weakside, definately a fun trick but as alwyas need to work my pixies both sides. my fairies as well, i fooled around with em and theyre fun but hard

hit torque from my strongside toe, footed clipper torque a few times but cant get it up, i needa rotate more so its not so... torqued :)

the good thing is my clippers are getting way better. i could almost say consistent on my right. havent tried much for records on each side but i can throw them in sets pretty well.

ummmmmmmmmm

fooled around with atomic sets, drifters... not very good but soon.

lots to do in the next few days though.. saturday i plan on shredding with richie and aaron and hopefully some others, and i just got my new ultrasuede so im gonna have to be stichin away!!!!!!! finally

i now have green, brown, tan, white, black, grey, red, guava, and this purplish blue which is sweet. ive got good ideas :)

uh ok if i remember anything i left out, ill be sure to let yall know ;)

gotta love this sport..

EDIT:

ive been playing since a week into december, almost 2 months.

although i did do a toe delay around thanksgiving, 8) , i got my lavers like dec. 6th or 7th, shredding since.

late night shred before class at 8 am.. .its 211am right now.. but i just hit that wierdass move thats cool...ummm oh ya dada curves, its not too bad by itself

still dave you're so right, next session will be devoted to hitting each flipside, and each in some sort of set... if im lucky flipside in a set too :)

oh yeah why can i do torque more easily than osis? bleh i think it has to do with the timing, when im dexing i jump at the prime time cause its like a swinging motion, while osis alone is more like waiiiiiiiiittt fooorrr ittttttttt..... OK GO.

i can do em but bleh, TOMORROW IS A NEw DAY! (but not with only 4 hrs sleep :( )

PS i just got back from class and noticed i never pressed submit... oh well.

ok i hit whirl a few times strongside, and actually sort of maybe close flipside.

for some reason though i couldnt hit anything else really... but my clipper on the left improved much.

thats pretty much it.

pressed for time... night

anz!!!

your videos rock haha.

i can attribute most my success in the torque/drifter/d.curves department to you!

my runs usually consist of various 2s and a few 3s, when im lucky i can hit a 4 at the end of a string, but my consistency needs to be MUCH improved.

aaron, i look forward to seein you guys down there tomorrow

shred with the SD crew on saturday, was tons of fun.

met a few new guys down there, we had 2 circles going and from what i could tell everyone had some very successful sets. personally i schooled my butterflies left and right and recieved some good tips on drifter and torque.

drove to LA immediately afterwards and stayed the weekend, played with dave and brett again finally, and not as much as i would have liked... but i was playing host for one of my room mates and things were hectic.

we had some really fun shred time though, i played with dave in venice for a little while and brett/dave/and i played at metlox on sunday night too. sick shit was busted by all, it definately felt good to be shredding with the homies again.

ive had a solo sesh or two since then as well... i wish i could report great progress but im really trying to work on consistency, so i suppose progress was made :)

fletch dared me to hit whirl>PdxDrifter>dlo and that would be amazing if i could do it, but i feel its far away as none of those tricks are strong enough to be thrown together yet!

soon.
