Have been playing lots recently but only busking. Doing pretty well from it too
- made about $40 in twenty minutes today and $120 in about an hour on Saturday. Find it very hard to play for a long time by myself - probably going a little hard I guess.
Went out on Friday night and saw True Live - www.truelive.com.au which are officially my favourite still together band at the moment. Debut album comes out in April. Like the Cat Empire only cooler. Was going to see them again on Saturday but went to Launceston instead. Matt Baker (the Aussie one) once told me the only place in the world he visited and didn't like was Launceston. I went for a friends 21st and that was fun but then we went out and the clubs suck big time. The music sounded really shit - completely overpowering bass such that you could barely hear the rest of the music. The people were mainly posers with no style. The drinks were way over priced and had a crap selection of beer. The outside area was completely overrun with smokers making the air fresher inside than out. Talked to a few cute girls but they were sooooooo boring. One girl asked me what I wanted to do at uni and when I said I wanted to sometime like arts and politics she said that that sounded really boring. I basically responded with "yeah right" and walked off - Not only do I find politics and history fairly interesting, I also think one of the biggest problems with our society is peoples ignorance on those subjects and I think it's the main reason people like John Howard and George Bush (and Stephen Harper) are able to win government. Anyway Launceston is full of wankers and bogans and I'm glad not to live there

Secondly, not to veer and turn this into a debate but we have yet to see how Mr. Harper handles. The Liberals under Paul Martin's leadership did nothing but hold us back, wasting our money through the scandels and gun registry.
Reading in the paper, it almost seems like Harper is giving Bush the ole "leave my beaver alone" approach (saying something that we respect you as a neighbor but not tolerating how they seem to think we are pushovers). I like that

Your interpretation of Canadian politics is a lot different to mine and to what's been reported in Australia - certainly the perception I have got is that Harper wants to "mend relationships" with the US and build a stronger alliance. Regarding the economy - I think Harper was offering tax cuts etc. (although I could be wrong) - which is a shamefull attempt to buy votes in my opinion and also means you'll get worse public services etc. Anyway being a Canadian you probably know more about it than I do (living on the other side of the planet).
Some other news. I played touch football yesterday and we lost
. The other team sucked too so I was pretty frustrated. I played well though. Also I went and saw Australia play Spain in hockey. Exciting game. First time I've watched a hockey game (of any level) and it was 1 vs 4 in the world. Australia won (of course). It reminded me of a debate a while ago about what was a bigger sport out of hockey and ice hockey and I realise that obviously (grass) hockey is bigger when you consider that it's the second biggest sport in India and Pakistan. Pakistan are 3 in the world I think?

Can't wait.Busking again today - have made just over $100 from an hour busking this week and have 2 days to go - including the markets where last week I made over $120 and also a demo on Sunday. Also today a guy came up to me and said he pay me $50 to film me but he wanted to drive me to his place which is a long way away and he seemed a little creepy so I don't think I'll do the demo for him - but will suggest that I would be happy to do it some where public. Hmm - it is hard to make money out of footbag but I don't want to be raped either.
After busking I went to the park and played three games of chess and shredded while waiting for the other people to move. I hit void and goliath - both are hard moves for me - especially in the middle of chess games with board shorts on. I also won all three games. The first two were really easy - the third was much better. The guy took a long time to think about every move and so I had to actually play well to beat him. It was looking like it could go either way until right at the end. In fact he got within 2 moves of a check mate but I saw it coming and had my checkmate worked out well enough that it was ok. It turns out one of the guys at work plays a lot too so I'm going to bring my chess set next time. Going busking tomorrow and also meeting up with some friends for a computer game night

.Jeremy, what is the secret to making so much money busking footbag? Do you bring speakers along so u can play to music? Do you play in heavily populated areas like festivals? Do you interact with the crowd? Do you have to play in a small area so you don't kick anyone?

1. I play with music that I know really well so although I'm not choreographing much it's very "routiney".
2. I put out a sign that says something along the lines of trying to make money to get to worlds. Australian's are very sporting patriotic so this sign works well.
3. I do long strings with lots and lots of bails but also some hard "crowd pleasing" moves. Depending on the music sometimes I'll hit stuff that is fairly difficult for me but usually I stick to stuff I know I won't drop.
4. I play in areas with high traffic - the best place is a local market which is also the biggest weekly market in Australia and has about 5000 people at it. I don't interact with the crowd very much.
5. I have a cloth shopping bag for the money - this means it's hard to tell how much is in there. I estimate I make $20 less when I use something where you can see how much money I've made.
I didn't go to the guys house to be filmed.
I had a bit of a shitty day today - busking and playing. There were some patches when I was playing well. Alpine smoke for the first time and also alpine smog in the same run. My drifters are feeling ridiculously strong at the moment. I also hit a nice run that started with sumo>smoke>fog>pixie over down>ripwalk>blurry whirl>blurry whirl>ps whirl>pdx blender - pretty tight combo I thought. I think I hit pdx drifter>pdx blender bsos as well. But I had a really shit end to the session where I basically couldn't hit any moves at all. Also I have a sore knee.
Jorden has just got back from Europe and was at the session, as was James, Glenn, Raff and Brian.
Tomorrow I'm performing at the Republic Hotel again which should be fun. I plan on hitting some really hard moves and then doing my current routine.
Man my chair at this internet cafe is fucking comfortable.
Oh I had a really bad hangover today too and only a few hours sleep. That's probably why the session ended so badly. I really wish I had a solid player to play with here. I don't know if it will happen. James and Brian both have good potential but I think they have too many other things in their lives to get really good - at least in the near future. I can't wait to play with Dylan again at the end of this month. Should be heaps of fun. Hopefully I can convince him to come down to Hobart and live here as well - don't know about my chances though. It's very tempting to move to Adelaide or Brisbane or where ever he goes just so I can play in a good circle all the time. I like my job though and I have a lot of things I'm organising.

Demo at Republic went well. I made $75 from 6 minutes work so that was good. Also did my current competition routine with only 4 drops - one on like a mirage or something really easy in the tiltless section at the beginning, one while juggling (actually at the start of juggling), and two in the hard section but they were because I a. had about 2 square m to play in and b. because I was trying to turn around while shuffling to face the crowd. I also hit double blender, pdx spinal tap, sailing ss blender and your mom at the beginning of my demo to show the crowd some hard moves. Didn't play today.

About to go busking probably but there is some fashion show happening in the mall. Maybe I'll just go school instead. I woke up this morning with a big urge to hit symposium whirr and actually spent about 5 minutes practicing the action without the bag until I thought I had it down - then got a bag and had 3 attempts all of which ended with me lieing on the ground. I think it's physically possible and one day will be hit - not today by me though .
Apart from that I'm facing a fairly big choice in my life about my plans for this year. It's a choice of a. doing the same as what I'm doing now ie. working part time and playing lots of footbag. b. enroling probably part time in at university. or c. getting a full time job, working 12 hours a day and going to worlds. I'm definitely leading towards option b. but I've been considering option C a little as well. Recently in some discussion about some stuff a particular person (who happens to be a lawyer) said to me "... Those who actually come to Worlds are able to demonstrate
their commitment by coming to Worlds..." Which makes me feel bad about not being able to go to worlds but also I think it's easy for a lawyer who lives in the US to say that when she has a full time steady income and has a flight cost less than half what I would have to pay to go to worlds. The problem with going to worlds is that if I'm going to work that hard I won't have time to play any footbag and I don't want to get there and not be able to play at my best. Anyway I'm not sure what'll happen. It also depends a lot on what other people decide to do. I really really wish people in some groups could be transparent and let each other know what they think about things in an open manner instead of constantly misunderstanding things and playing stupid games. meh.

So had a really good drilling session today. Drilled blenders, flip double downs and torques (and varients of those moves). Highlight was superfly>baroque! - tight shit. I'm not sure about my baroques though. I mean they are definitely clean - like my high plains and flurry the dexes are like calf deep which is good but they my barroque in particular feels a bit awkward - more like a barraging muted osis than a double torque if that makes any sense... anyway at work have to go.

Word up. Double my money playing poker (texas) last night. $10 buy in and I left with $19.80.
Fun. Only made one mistake for the night (played on a full house when there was two pair on the table and I had the low three). Although I have to say I was lucky to be playing with guys who were a bit silly at times. I think I won abuot $8 on one hand when there was king, queen, jack, ten, eight off suit on the table and neither of the other guys had a straight (I had the ace and the nine).
Went busking yesterday too and did ok - like $30. Played really badly to begin with but finished well. Have started hitting more blender moves while busking which is a good sign. Also caught up with a lot of old friends and aquintances last night which was good.

Had a good kick today down at the markets. My brother filmed a little although I have no plans of making a video out of any of the footage apart from my sick 3 and sick 1 for the modified comp. I've had a few people asking me to compete so I figured it was time to give it a go. I was pretty happy with my efforts - the sick 1 is a 7 add move that I don't think anybody else has hit - I'm pretty sure I invented the move anyway (a year or two ago). I've never hit it on camera or with a witness before though so it was nice to do that. The sick 3 was easy 6>easy 5>easy 6 but the links were all fairly hard so I think I have some chances of at least making the top 2 or 3. Everything was clean going through frame by frame so that's the important part anyway. I had a slightly harder combo I wanted to hit but gave up on that one. I like the fact that my sick 3 has all unique components - There's basically no component of any of the moves that is repeated too.
Kicked with Ivan, my brother and James. Ivan was playing well - I haven't played with him for months but he was tiltless and hit ducking butter>ducking osis and some nice runs. James is getting better. My brother is a n00b and also was playing in thongs.
Really looking forward to going to Adelaide next week - should be heaps of fun although it turns out I'm going to miss societies day at uni. Still I talked to Ivan and we should be able to have a society for the year and stand at the day - a footbag society of course.
Also I have 3 upcoming performances I think. One at a caberate thing next Friday, a workshop on Sunday and then a demo for some youth festival on April 1. Not sure how much I'll get for the first two - probably very little but it should be fun anyway. The April 1 thing is about $400 for 30 minutes.
Hmm. My brothers 19 year old girlfriend is going to have a baby - that's pretty big news. I'm looking at getting some baby lavers sometime soon and plan on making this kid world champion by the time he or she is 15. I'm going to be like a tennis mum only a footbag uncle instead. Teenage pregnancies are pretty bogan but it's not my choice and they can do whatever they want.
Oh I've enrolled at uni too although still not sure if I'm going to go or not.
Been struggling with some footbag organisations lately. Have been thinking a lot about resigning but I still feel pretty passionately that things need to happen and maybe they will. I'm not going to start more discussino though until other people bring up the subject - at least unless I get no comment until April - which is what usually happens with this org. (ie. I start some discussion it carries on until I give up and then nobody else does anything). Anyway it feels pretty pointless but who knows...

So I've now enrolled to go to university part time. I'm doing beginners japanese and intro to journalism. Looking forward to it. Also starting a uni hacky society or similar. Have been playing lots but not going hard very much - just easy long runs. Have been working on spinning a lot and it's getting heaps better. Not much else happening. Went looking for new houses to move into today. Also going to Adelaide to play with Dylan Fry and Ian Pritchard tomorrow! Getting to play in guiltless circles tends to be a twice a year occasion for me so I'm looking forward to it. I hope Ian brings is camera as I have a few things I want to try out. Not much else to say. Discovered I can check my email on my mobile phone recently - I could reply too but I hate writing stuff with phones a lot so it would have to be a really important email for me to reply with my mobile. Still now I can check my email once an hour again. Hmm, anyway work is boring but it's time to go home
