Ok so ive read a bunch of posts and tried doing research on stitching and i still have quite a few questsions and im pretty confused also...
basically...
1. How do you know what pattern to use when stitching?
2. Do you stitch 1 panel at a time together? or like.. 3 at a time? and attach them all together after that.
3. Do you start stiching with the middle panel and work towards the outer panels? or like question 2 do you create groups of panels and stitch them together
4. Ultrasuede, uldtrasuede light, microsuede? whats the best for starting out with.. and also colors? what are the best to use.
5. How do you figure out what size/shape you want to cut the panels. Ive seen the program thing where you type in the dimensions... but how do you know whats the right dimension to type?
6. What are the stitch patterns youre supposed to use? im assuming you dont just sew together the panels in a random order.
7. Is there maybe printable pictures that you can use to measure and cut out the right shapes? or maybe tutorials teaching you step by step how to stitch?
I dont expect everyone to answer every question but...Any help is very much appreciated : )
New to stitching

Sizes between .5-.8 are ideal

Make your templates out of thin, but durable material...Sheet metal, old credit cards, cardboard....just make sure that they are extremely accurate or your bags will not come out round and beautiful.
Ultrasude Light is the material you should get. Fieldfabrics.com is where i get mine ( as well as many other stitchers) and you should order .125 of a yard which will come out to be like 5-8 dollars a color.
Most of the colors are great except spanish gold. Although it is very opinion based on which colors are good and bad, you'd just want to stay away from spanish gold as it is dislike by a large majority of people.
The stitch you should you is a running stich which should look like this - - - - -, just google search running stitch if ur still unsure..
The pentagons should be stitched to the hexagons..and the short sides of the hexagons should be stitched to other short sides of hexagons. http://www.footbag.org/forum/viewtopic. ... 523fabd735

Me and my grandma.lol(i cant stitch very well yet) just got done with this one. I think it turned out good for the first one ever. It's made out of microsuede i do need to buy some ultrasuede though. I think since i kinda know how to do it now im gonna buy some from fieldsfabric.

they're about the same as you pay a buck or 2 more to get a little more fabric, they're both still the same ultrasude though.
Spyder, thats an amazing first bag, great job. Keep it up, i'd love to see what ur bags look like after a little more practice..just remember to keep all the stitches the same lenght, and depth when stitching, and also have the amount of gather equal on all sides of the panels.

Thanks for the comment. I was wondering how exactly do you "gather"... do you do that when you finish putting 5 hexes to a pent,or when you have hexes on all the sides of a pent? do you simply just pull the thread tighter so the pent "puckers".
oh btw that bag is made out of microsuede....lol, i just placed an order on fieldsfabric though..i got country cream, dark jade, stone gray, midnight navy, and a few others..i have been reading on here what colors are the best. Tell me what you think of the colors i got. Thanks

Well some people wait to set the gather and knot the thread after they finish all five sides of the pentagon. Some people just set the gather and knot after each side. I suggest you do the 2nd( after each side) because it makes it a little easy and prevents complications from occuring, you'll understand as you begin to stitch and run into a few minor problems.
Im not sure you understand what gather is, i'll jsut say the definition anyway to prevent further confusion.
Gather is the amount of tension or amount of pulling you apply to the thread or floss to make the edges of the panels wavy on the bad side and flat and even on the other.
You want to apply a much gather and tension untill the panels are flat and even, not jagged or wavy.
You seem to have the handle of it so don't worry, just make sure you have the same amount of gather on each side of the pentagons to ensure that the pentagons are uniform and therefore you will end up with a round or relatively round footbag.
The colors you got are great. Just make sure you bought ultrasude LIGHT as i once made the mistake of buying 60 dollars worht of ultrasuede soft and hadn't realized it untill after i had cut up and used the strips of fabric.

Well i ordered the material from this page. I sure hope i got the right stuff , also i was told to use button thread, bc it is stronger than regular thread...i also heard some people use dental floss?? just let me know if button thread will work good or not. i have a bunch of needles but they have really tiny heads, and the thread is really hard to get through the hole.

I use dental floss and knot it anyway, i can't melt it without getting it really thin and weak.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I did order some of those other colors, i think i got country cream,stone gray, midnight navy, and some others i cant remember, lol. I looked around and seen what colors people said were good, and what was bad. I guess i will use waxed dental floss. bc i think we have some in our medicine cabinet. lol
