Soaking Lavers in water to loosen up the glue on the canvas

Does anyone know, from experience, if soaking lavers in water to loosen up the shoe glue holding the canvas to the mesh can affect the heel?

If the heel contains carboard like i think it des, then it may not be a bright idea. But if it doesn't then noting should happn...right?

I was modding my friend's lavers the other day and trying to pry the canvas off the mesh might of stretched the mesh a bit. And i don't want to ruin my lavers by stretching them out like that. But i don't know if soaking them if water would compromise the strength of the heel.

So if you've soaked your lavers in water, how long? and did it have an affect on the heel or any other part of the lavers?

Wouldn't you want to stretch out the mesh? Making it thinner would make the make the bag more feel able.

stretching the mesh would also cause the mesh to bulge out and make it somewhat bouncy. Doesn't really matter now. I soaked my lavers so the heels were dry and removed the canvas. But for anyone who needs it, i put my lavers in a buket toe down and made the water level just under the heel(were the leather of the heel is stitched over the canvas)

just do them like everyone else does...it seems to work fine, but if you feel like experimenting on shoes, then by all means do it

i don't know what everyone else does, in terms of soaking...thats why im asking. I've only heard one person tsay they soaked they're shoes and was wondering if it worked. It sounded like it'd work and i did not want to experiment and end up with a screwed up pair of shoes

I've soaked my Lavers in water once, to remove the canvas. Made modding easier, and I didn't experience any downfalls.

Well, except for the smell of wet shoes.

And this is mesh we're talking about, not some weird synthetic fiber or wood. I doubt you should be concerned with the surfaces warping.

I was mainly concerned about the heel. If it is reinforced by carboard like i think it is then soaking it would weaken the cardboard, and therefore weaken the heel. The mesh i had no concern of beside the strain on them when trying to pry it apart from the canvas and the glue.

I just wet the sides of it and toe. Works just as well. Work the water in and the glue loosens. Use a squirt bottle or wet cloth...

It is more the matter what works for you... I know people that didn't loosen the glue and it took them time to mod but you can do it so many ways.

I've put many of my lavers in the wash ... and everything was fine afterwards.

what everyone else does in terms of soaking is not do it. i prefer a butter knife. I make a small incision on the inside canvas, jam the knife in there and separate the two layers of material completely before I cut more than 1.5 cm.

I've used a hair dryer. Get the glue really hot and it will melt slightly, making it easier to pull apart.

I do that, also. The worst that has happened is I had a huge hole on the outside of my lavers.
