pointers please

Post by Rieferman »

I'm a little shy to do this outside my blog, but I received a suggestion that I'll receive more pointers in here. So here goes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE-mT6kMLrg

Things I realize already:
- I hunch, but I shouldn't
- For no good reason, I double plant on easy stuff a lot. (e.g. infinities)

Any other pointers (or additional tips you think might be news to me on these two topics as well) are much appreciated. It's ok if you want to rip my game apart, my feelings aren't hurt easily. :-)

Thanks

;)

how about this:

cut pixie sets from your next shred session, and add something less common in your game. There were a LOTTTT of those that I saw in your last video.

Matt, do you mean that a lot of those combos were also in my last video?

If yes, I'm still in consistency-building mode, so I will probably be a little repetitive for the near future.

I don't know about cutting pixies either. That's the first component I'm trying to build into an anchor >> it's not quite there yet, so it needs a lot of reps too. I'll be heavier on stepping set, spins, ducks, dives in upcoming vids if all goes to plan.

Twist your hips more. It seems like you try and do everything with your entire body pointed forward. Your hips and upper body have different tasks and consequently, they shouldn't always be moving together. This is why I think your pdx mirages look so difficult. In fact, I think this may be the cause of most the problems you describe. Working on clipper form may help with this. http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.ph ... ipper+form

Definitely stand up straight.

On pixie's, try and twist your leg more instead of lifting up with your knee as much. Watch Jorden and Dave do this in slow mo and I think you'll know what I'm talking about. They only lift their knee to about hip height to produce the lift, then they twist their leg to produce the dex. Stretching and strength training may be needed if it's difficult to do.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Your game looks really solid. Your string length is really good. I can't wait to shred with you sometime. I liked the haze.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the replies so far.

I had a session on Tuesday practicing better upper body posture. Though it caused me to miss tricks more often, it also made the tricks that I hit easier. So I think once I'm used to it, it will be very beneficial.

Didn't get to try various pixie tips yet, but I will tonight.

Any other pointers? Anything that's especially good that I should expand on?

edit: And I really focused on my hips and how they pivot last time. I can see what you mean professor. I actually think my lack of hip pivot is something that holds me back from a lot of elements, so I'm really going to try to zoom in on that concept. Thanks again!

Thanks again!
