Hi guys. A little about me first I guess. I played "hacky sack" in jr high as well as high school, but it was mostly a social thing. Up until now I hadn't played since then.
At the beginning of May I went to NAIT trade school taking first year plumbing, and a buddy from work was in my class. After a day or two we noticed we had a ton of time, smoke breaks, in between classes, lunch etc. When we got to the school we were the only ones who played footbag on breaks etc. Slowly our whole class started playing, and then soon after that, most of the guys in the school. I remember the first week the only circle you'd see was me and my friends, now you drive up to the school at lunch time and there's a dozen circles going. Not everyone is trying to learn freestyle but it's still cool to see.
Anyways, long story short, now I have 4-5 buddies who are really interested in freestyle. I told them about shredmonton and we will probably check that out.
Who else on here is from Edmonton?
P.S. I made sure to order Lavers off ebay so I'd have them in time for Shredmonton, woot. Hopefully I can improve a lot after seeing some guys tear it up.
Edmonton Freestylers
Unfortunately the Edmonton scene is puttering out, but you're JUST in time. Their annual tournament is being held next weekend on the 27th-29th!! ShrEdmonton. DO NOT MISS IT. It will be hot! They hold it at the YMCA by West Ed. Contact q_phox, byrin, Slash C, or spawn here on Modified. My crew is gonna be out there next weekend, as well as some other top-notch talent. CHECK IT OUT!
I don't think the edmonton scene is puttering out. A couple of our core players have or are moving away, but I still play everyday. As long as there's a spark there's a chance of a forest fire. And the important thing about forest safety is to dry kindling the roots.
