First Footbag Vid

Post by RipWalker »

Hey all -- first time trying to record some footage and edit it together. Let me know what you think! If you can, step up the quality to 480p in the player.

Enjoy.

Some big moves in there Mark! I want to see some longer strings and some drills. I challenge you to nail 10 three adds that you can hit on both sides. Then I challenge you to try and hit as many of them on on both sides as many times as you can in one string. Oh, and you are the man! I had a great time kicking with you at the las Funtastiks.

Hey dude,

Neat video, I enjoyed seeing some variety and different concepts. I encourage you to keep on doing what you're doing.

Never underestimate the fun to be had with tiltless though. Get creative with it :)

Ian,

I'll definitely give that challenge a go! I might mix in two adds as well, seeing that some of those could undoubtedly use some work on my flipside (maybe I'll post a short video of the drills, though I don't know how exciting that will be). Thanks for the feedback!

Jay,

Thanks! I'll definitely be working on some tiltless variety.

I don't want people to get the impression from this video that I'm ignoring my flipside completely. I just wanted to test out my new camera and record some of the tricks that I can hit strong-side. Most of my sessions are both-side basic schooling at this point.

Thanks bro!

Whirls are quickly becoming the bane of my existence, actually. I haven't schooled them as much as I should be, but they're not clicking yet. Reverse whirls are fine on both sides but whirls... not so much. It doesn't make much sense to me but I understand the idiosyncrasies of different movements and the involvement of muscle memory so I'm just going to keep schooling them both sides.

Hopefully I can work them into my game soon because I think that mixing whirls and rev. whirls will be tight.

E-GAD! GREAT SCOTT! Sweet stuff dude! Phoenix> ripwalk, and reverse ghost were my favorites. Your pixie ducking and diving is looking top notch dude. One piece of constructive criticism, though that helped my game look better... knock out those toe bails son! You don't need that shit. Replace them with legovers or even pickups. Phoenix> ripwalk> far legover looks way cooler than phoenix> ripwalk> toe, ya dig? A great footbag teacher taught me that little trick. Keep that stuff comin! Can't wait to shred with you again! Hopefully that X-mas break jam turns out.

Nice, stoked you have a camera and editing ability now. I find filming myself often helps me figure out tricks and help me refine my form too.

Some random comments:

1. I second the request for some longer strings. On a related note, I also agree that throwing random 2s can be a good way to do this, especially if they aren't bail 2s.
2. Funny ending!
3. I liked the diving whip, and the open whipping rake the best.
4. When making a video that's over a minute long, I suggest varying the camera angle or background if you can. If you only have one indoor spot, I can see how it's hard to change backgrounds, but changing camera angle even just a bit makes it more visually interesting for the viewer. On a related note, it's also less distracting when there are fewer items in the background. Shredder+simple background= easier to focus on shred. This whole bullet is kind of minor, but it's easy to implement and makes for a better video.
5. Open ducking whip?

I look forward to seeing more vids of you in the future. Good stuff Mark!

Thanks Nick and Ken!

I'll definitely work on my string length for sure, including non-bail 2s and 3s and no toe stalls, and will be building all of these constructive crits into my next vid.

In the warmer months, I'll be able to vary my filming background a whole lot more as I'll be playing outside, but even if I do another vid in the basement (my only real shred spot right now), I'll try to throw in some different camera angles.
