TMNT Have Nothing On This Shredder
Best time to solo drill is when you are stagnating, my opinion though. Kinda like shaking off all the rusty-ness of other shizz. Thank you very much! Totally would have never thought of trying that until you brought it to my attention. My flip DATW is going to take me sometime, but when I it it, I'll be sure to have a viddy. I know exactly what you mean, the moment I hit a Mixer set from Clipper, it felt so much cleaner and easier. Yeah, I have kinda gotten ahead of myself on the one Clipper, it's just so exciting to hit it! Flip will now be my priority, though.
I am definitely going to try my hardest to make it out to Open, just depends on the denaro situation at that time. Probably gonna sell a kidney to try and make it though.
Edit: Second page!!! How does one know when they have progressed from being tiltless to guiltless? It's not that big a deal to me, cause I will probably always say I'm tiltless(Lowered expectations is a good thing).

Sober Shred
I felt kind of lazy today, so I did very little drilling, very little. Only really drilled my flip Clipper, which was horrendoulsy horrendous, but I stuck to it for as long as I could. After that though, I kinda just screwed around hitting Clipper set stuff mid-string, and did a bit more focus of my big moves. I know I shouldn't do that blah, blah, blah, I'm going to bust what I'm going to bust. It was pretty freakin' fun, never really realized how much I have excelled until I put everything together. Thinking back to my last session with Dustin and Brian, I have come a good ways.

Not really looking forward to not playing these next few days, but it should be worth it. I am dying to go to Green Cup, about to sell my soul just to make an appearance on Saturday as well. Also, gave up on stitching, JUST FOR THE TIME BEING. Waiting for my sister to start her summer, then to get some money and I'm going to buy a shitload of fabric. She is pretty boss when it comes to stuff like this, and is down to learn and teach me. Going to try and work her like a sweatshop and sell some bags on here.

I'M BACK
Soooo, I haven't posted in a while because I injured myself during the plyo shizz from P90X. Nothing too serious luckily, just enough to make me not wanna shred for a bit. Plus, in my buddies warehouse there is a mini Ninja Warrior set-up, been STUCK on it. But anyways, today was my first day back shredding since Green Cup. I wanted to make a post about Green Cup, but I got a bit lazy because I could have wrote a novel on how dope that was for me. Felt like soaking up some rays, so I went to good ol' Crawford and hit up the tennis courts. Wasn't anything too amazing about this session, but it felt good to get back into it.
Went about my normal drilling, one song per drill starting with a two song kicking warm-up. My Clipper has gotten a bit worse, but I'm hoping that today changed that. Tried flip Clip a few dozen times, but failed everytime. Had a nice 30+ contacts of Mirage > Switch repeat in a string. Didn't do much with my guiltless stuff, felt like my tiltless needed way more attention. However, I did hit Mixer > SS Mixer a couple times which was dope. Also, hit Switch > Clipper > Ducking Mirage super cleanly. I NEED to get Illusion down on my flip, love that fucking move. I love the way it looks when you do Mirage > Illusion > Pick-up, and I NEED to be able to repeat that. On my strong side I hit Mirage > Illusion repeat 7 times in one string.
Had a blast getting back at it, and truely breaking in my FunBag from Nick was awesome. Thought I might have popped a stitch, but I was high and the ground was very shiny, so i am hoping that I am trippin'. LOVE that damn bag, just looks so pimpin'.

CAMPING
I haven't been able to keep up with my posting due to the fact I keep heading out camping. I still shred pretty much on a daily basis, and I love to kick before going off on a hike while being out in the wilderness. I have been constantly running low add drills, but have been busting them double time. I honestly don't really like going for my bigger moves so much, just cause hella drops in a row can be a downer. Plus, you can burn out on a move and still not even hit it! I REALLY need to hit up the Standford crew in the next week or two, I feel like I have been having withdrawals. Oh! And I did not pop a stitch in my FunBag, the ground was shiny, and there were left over BB's from the last bag I busted.

Good to see you are keeping up with kicking. I've really gone back to the basics too... my toe stalls have really transformed because of it. I'm putting toe stalls and clippers inside the tiltless and guiltless drills I've struggled to get through over 10 or 15 contacts of, and it's helping a lot with my form and attitude. I definitely suffer from big move syndrome, but every week I find myself more apt to control it.
I definitely would suggest kicking with the Stanford crew as much as you can!

Paradox And I Didn't Even Know It.
SOO... While I was watching some footbag vids on youtube, I noticed when someone busted a Paradox Mirage, it looked hella similar to my CLipper set Mirage. Then I come to realize that I can Paradox Mirage and Illusion on my strong Clip. These are really 3 adds?!!?!? Paradox Mirage is easier for me than a Clipper set Mirage, this is awesome. Haven't really been playing that often, lack of a car is probably a factor. Buuut! I will be getting back to my daily shred self, just kind of sucks in this 95-100 degree weather.
How many consecutive toe stalls can you do back-to-back? Could I get some specifics on those drills, sounds like something that I could benefit from as well. I honestly feel like any 4 add move is just too big for me to handle properly, so I'm just waiting for my Guiltless game to pick-up more and my Tiltless to finally finish out. As soon as I can get my hands on a vehicle, I will be heading out to shred with them. Hopefully soon.

Flip Clipper
I got down for quite a while yesterday, with Clipper shizz being my focus point. It was pretty dope, hit Clipper back-to-back for the first time. Just about shit myself when it actually sat there on my left Clip. Been freezing my Clippers and making sure everything looks ok, like Justin Dale told me to, and it's quite effective. I hit my Flip Clip about 6 times overall. Just my usually drill sesh with an extra long Clipper segment, didn't even really get to my 3 Add moves. Also started to get the hang of Flip Illusion as well!
Today though... My word were things being busted! On my strong side I broke my record and hit 7 consecutive CLippers, and on my Flip I hit two in a row! Hit them back-to-back on two seperate occasions as well. Total times I hit Flip today was around 17 times. Ended up hitting Clipper > Paradox Mirage 3 times in a row, which was awesome! Worked on some ducking stuff, and only hit Ducking Mirage twice and same with Ducking Switch. I had to start all over on my Flip Illusion for some reason, though I believe I was able to hit it twice cleanly at the end. My Pick-ups are feeling a lot cleaner also, been wanting to get them DOWN before doing more Pixie Pick-ups. Have not forgot about the DATW > SS Mirage repeat challenge, just have not been able to crack my Flip DATW. Weak Sauce! Anywho, I need to remember to run some Butterfly drills tomorrow., second day in a row that I forgot.
Going to try and plan out a trip to get down with the Stanford this upcoming week.

I've only ever counted to a little over 100 before stopping. Going further would probably be good for endurance, but usually by that point the quality of each one isn't that great. If you want a few drill ideas I could probably make a video... it might be easier and less redundant than notating them.Derek wrote:How many consecutive toe stalls can you do back-to-back? Also, toe tripless stuff is really hard. You're kind of at a disadvantage. I've only hit smog once, and decided I wasn't going to work on it again for a while just because there are so many other easier moves that could provide the same density. If you get both your open sets and your ducking and diving down you might have some options. Having a good symposium element in your game would help a lot too (open symposium mirage is a 4-add). But once you have your clippers down solid you'll have a lot more options. Once you start hitting dimwalk (open down) more easily you'll be wondering, "how does this warrant 4 adds?"
Keep it up, and don't stress on that old challenge too much. That was probably just a stupid suggestion on my part because I haven't gotten a chance to kick with you (or, as Nick mentioned, seen any video) and accurately gauge your level. Ken Somolinos challenged me to hit open switch > mixer, rpt a couple days ago. Think you could hit that?
Nick: I knew I was trippin', but I couldn't help but let it get to me. And it didn't help that a BB got caught in the bottom of my shoe, so every now and then I'd get a glimpse of something shiny coming from my feet. I woulda been devastated if I actually did end up popping one. Thanks man! I appreciate it. What skill level did you think I was at, very curious to see what others think. I will post a video soon, maybe two. Started filming a wee bit yesterday, and my buddy just got some super fancy ass camera which I'm going to make him record some shizz for me. Muchos freaking gracias on the bag.
Reilley: I know exactly what you mean. That would be awesome! Whatever is easier for you. Why must the Clipper be SO essential for footbag?! I'm glad I've been laying off of add hunting then. Is it weird that I never practice my Ducking(No Diving yet) from toe stalls? I just feel it looks kind of lame Ducking from toe, but I think that's just me. That's the only reason why my Open sets are what they are, cause Open Ducking looks SWEET. Symposiums, eh? Curses! Thanks for all the input dude, I am beyond thankful for it!! I will definitely have to come back to it when I'm ready, but no worries. It's my fault for being a weiner about posting footage. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! I will try my hardest to be sure to get some footage of it. Hopefully I can throw it in a video, but we'll see how it goes.
UPDATE: Will not be able to shred with the Stanford Crew, still due to vehicle problems. UGH! Maybe I should smoke some crack and just run there.

Awesome! Props on getting through that drill (mostly). Hopefully these challenges will quickly go from something that takes a few sessions to just one of several things on a checklist of drills to hit every session. Easier said than done though.
Look at you warming up at the beginning, I don't even know if I should bother trying to make a warm up drills video. Your toe form is equal to or better than mine, and you definitely have your toe bumps down better than I do. The only thing I would suggest to help develop your open ducking is something Justin is always suggesting to us in Seattle: spend a round here and there just doing toe stalls with as high of a set as possible. Like, just throw the bag as high as you possibly can with the least amount of movement as possible. The idea is to strengthen the leg muscles as well as get some general practice on doing high, accurate sets without extraneous movement.
Seriously good work though.

Thanks a lot man! Yeah, next video I will hit it properly, just kind of bailed to it and didn't have much time left to shoot. That is the ultimate goal for me, but they probably won't become permanent drills till the end of the month(*fingers crossed*). Oh really, well then I wouldn't trip about it, unless you wanna. I owe my better toe form to Justin Dale, they use to set waay on the outside, but I've been drilling like he said and it's been working. Duuuuude, you are awesome! I've been wanting some really easy drills to work in spare time here and there, just could never think of anything that would help with bigger things. I'll get right on that.
Figured Out Some Limitations Today
Sooooo I figured out how much I could push my body under the semi-intense 98 degree weather. It was awesome..... but also kind of scary. Didn't really have much of a breakfast this morning, and didn't end up shredding till about 12:30 PM. It was a typical session with what was being hit, just instead of stopping when I was done drilling my 2 Adds, I went balls deep in some 3 Adds. Almost hit Pixie Mirage > Pixie SS Mirage > Pixie ATW repeat, but trying SS Pixie Mirage after hitting Smear on my flip was not happening. I was able to hit Smear > PLO 6 times(twice on strong, once on flip! Also hit Sympl Switch a few times. Played for almost two hours solo dolo. After I was done and packing up, I felt like I was gonna puke, but luckily I didn't. When I got back to the vehicle though, my legs buckled and I started to lose my vision. Just so happened that my cousin would roll up right at that moment, and he hopped out and threw me in his vehicle with the A/C blasting. I have no idea what happened, it wasn't dehydration, cause I drink water like crazy and always have at least a liter on me. And for this session I just brought my Camelbak and filled up the bladder to it's maximum capacity of 3 liters. I think the heat just drained the crap out of me, but I also think I pushed too far. There was like 4 different times I was gonna call it, but then I'd hit something and want to continue. Dope sesh though! Hah.

DAMN.
I thought you were like just getting into the sport, only being able to hit like Legover> Mirage> drop. I gotta say, when I say you stringing full tiltless, I flipped out. Nuts man. Props on all the stuff. Pixie ATW is actually called Pixie ss Pickup. But yeah holy shit, I was very impressed man. Your game is good and only gonna get better. Can't wait to keep following your game with your blog.
Challenge: Try Spinning
Oh and, from one ska fan from another ska fan.. great soundtrack... RX Bandits: Progress is probably one of my favorite albums of all time.
Edit:
Oh and I love how you snap when you miss a trick or drop. One of my students at PSU does this. We call him "Snappy" or "Mr. Snaps". This is funny. It makes me laugh with my mouth.

Nick: Muchos fucking gracias man! Is it really now, so Pixie SS Pick-up is a Magellan? Spinning, eh? I'll give it a shot in the next session I have. Spinning makes me dizzy. Duuuuude, same here, Progress is the shit! In my top 10 albums for sure. I like most of RX's stuff, even a good chunk of the newer shizz. Does he really, that's awesome. Those snaps are the only thing stopping me from totally RAGIN' sometimes, and really help my game as a whole. He needs to make a video, and snippity snap.
Update
Been giving my legs a break since hiking 6+ miles almost all uphill took it's tole. I want to play from day to night, and night to day. I just want to be a freakin' beast! I wanna be able to think of some crazy dense strings off the top of my head, and then be able to execute it with PRECISION. I think I might just give up my social life for a bit, to shred with no limitations. I want to wake up, then after breakfast shred HARD! Recover for about 4-5 hours, maybe even more if I don't wanna be out in the heat, then shred HARD! again before or a bit after dinner. And I want to shred with the Stanford Crew. Scratch that, I NEED to play with them. My dumbass put my wallet in my buddies pack after the hike, and thought that I lost it. So for a few days, I thought I was boned. I did this while not even being stoned! But now at least I may be able to make a visit before my cousin's wedding. Hopefully. On another note, I can almost juggle with both sides now. Awesome!

One of my sessions from yesterday. Erik Chan was kind enough to put this together for me. THANK YOU! Had some nice strings in my opinion. I get to play with Brian Sherrill tomorrow! Super stoked, don't have to drive that far, and it's been a while since I've gotten down with someone on that level. Plus it's Bear, he's a beast! Freakin' PUMPED. Sorry for the short random post, but it's better than nothing. Might post about the shred tomorrow, or might just wait till after we(hopefully) get down on Friday as well.

Who Needs Fireworks When Bear Is Shredding Right There?
Sadly, there won't be a day two of getting down with Brian. I hate vehicles to the extreme, but I'm SUPER happy to have played with him yesterday. Not only did I get pointers in shredding, but in stitching as well! And seeing as I'm pretty sunburnt from the adventure, I'll be practicing some stitching in the mean time. I love playing with Brian, not only for the obvious reason of his skill level, but he always has some dope ass bags that he allows me to use
. The session was nice on my part, hit Flip Pixie > Pick-Up for the first time on the second attempt. Watching Brian's clean ass Fairies just made me want that trick that much more. Plus, watching him always wants me to amp up my Clipper game. Threw in some more 3 adds than I probably should of, but I had to go hard. Had some longer strings of Tiltless which were nice, but couldn't get past 3 contacts when going Guiltless, which was kinda frustrating. But not too bad. I love stringing Tiltless forever, then just busting out some 3's left and right, definitely makes me feel like I have some control. Hit Assassin on both sides as well! Flipside was a bitch though, spent like 100 tries on it, but it finally happened. Probably the reason why my sunburn is what it is. Haha. Also, Smog on strong side. AHHHH! I hella wanted to get down on Friday too! Just means I have to make an extra appearance down in Stanford.

I love playing with Brian, not only for the obvious reason of his skill level, but he always has some dope ass bags that he allows me to use

Pixie ss LEGOVER is Magellan. And I think Pixie ss Pickup is called Paste? Don't quote me on that part though. It's either op/ss pickup.Derek wrote:Nick: Muchos fucking gracias man! Is it really now, so Pixie SS Pick-up is a Magellan? Spinning, eh? I'll give it a shot in the next session I have. Spinning makes me dizzy.
Also, try turning your head into the spin. That makes it so that it doesn't seem like your environment is forming a death-mosh pit.
Paste is pixie far pickup
For spinning, there's a thread that might help: http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0
I haven't read through it all in a while, so I don't remember, but looking at the first page, here are the most helpful tips:
-spot immediately (or as quickly as possible) -- only worry about spinning your head because your body will follow
-also SPIN straight -- stay upright. If you move away from the bag or lean you'll end up further away for the stall -- a straight set also helps with this; setting and spinning straight will help prevent things like shoulder snags
-find a position that is comfortable for your arms if they get in the way. Some people prefer arms out over the bag during the spin and some with arms tucked in. I prefer arms out and over
-practice spinning toe stalls if you're having trouble with spinning clippers. You can even set them from clipper if that's easier (probably better practice for clipper > clipper spinning tricks anyway (toe-set spinning is way tougher!)

Also, your head should be the first thing to spin, followed by your shoulders, then everything else below. When you spin your head first, you spot the bag earlier meaning your body will follow and you will be in position already to do whatever you need to do.
So, set, spin, head, shoulders (it will all come naturally in a little while)
-set straight up and down (super important)ericksonj wrote:The more you move your head without focusing on something, the more dizzy you will get. Practice spotting the bag right away and focusing on it while waiting to do the next component. This makes your head only have to turn fast at the beginning of the spin and it takes much of the dizziness away.

Nick: The only spinning I have been doing has been like Toe, Spin, Toe, and I'll only do that like 5 times. SPinning from Clipper is so awkward for me.
Erik: Thanks for the post, it helped a lot. Didn't realize it's cool if I look like a copter spinning around with my arms out. I so WANT to be able to spin and all that jazz from Clipper, but I can only do it on toe. Next time I try it, I wanna try to Mirage at the end of a spin.
Oh How I Love Two-A-Days
My two sessions yesterday were OFF THE FUCKING CHAIN. My first session, I didn't really have much of a game plan. Just knew I wanted to hit Reilley and Nick's challenges, which I did! Hit Reilley's Magellan > PLO repeat drill, only once, and I couldn't hit it starting from Strong Side. Nick wanted me to hit Pixie SS Mirage back-to-back, and it was done twice on Flip, once on Strong. The only other highlights from this first session was that I broke my PR for consecutive Clippers on my strong. Hit 8! Also hit back-to-back Clip on a handful of occasions. This session was a great warm-up for what was to come, and a good confidence boost.
My second session.... Damn. Both of these session were at the tennis courts at Crawford park, my favorite shred spot. This sesh was something else though. Hit Smear > PLO repeat on three different occassions. Drilled my ass up to it. Did Back-to-back PLO's at first, which I was able to max out on 6 of 'em. Then did Smear > Smear > Switch repeat drills, which I was only able to do once. Luckily that did the trick though. Midway through the shred, a group of my buddies rolled through, and one of them wanted to get down. I had taught him some shizz before, Pendulum's and some stalls, which he was still able to do surprisingly. As soon As he stepped into the shred spot, something clicked in my head and turned on the heat. I hit PLO > DLO > DATW > Mirage > SS Mirage > Pick-Up > Pixie Pick-Up, then I dropped. This was one of MANY strings stringing 3's and 2's quite evenly. This just happens to be the only one that I want to write down. Also, dude loved my Ducking, so he kept asking me to hit shizz. After he saw my Assassin, that's all he wanted to see. He wanted me to show it off to the rest of his posse, so on 4 different occasion he asked me to hit it. I did everytime! I hit 4 out of 6 attempts, I about shit myself.
Oh yeah! And I've been making some 14 panels. Made three, but only two were playable. And the most current one I made survived a bunch of noobs kicking it around and doing toe pick-ups and other horrendous shit. Going to try and make one a day, but we'll see how that goes.
