Whoa.. Blog. Hey man.

Thanks for the Blazing/Whirling compliments, Boatz & Vojta. I'm starting to realize that Blazing really helps with Furious... it's also just a fun set.

I had another session today. It was really very fun. I mean, I always have fun playing footbag, which is why I play, but this session was just a whole lot of fun on a different level, for some reason.. maybe because I hit a lot of cool drills and milestones.. maybe because I used a lot of different concepts.. maybe because I kicked myself in the chin doing a Furious set..

Highlights not in video:

 Fairy Reverse Swirling set (Inspired by Marco and Jay).. Could only hit Fairy Reverse Swirling ss Clipper :P It was definitely uptime though.
 Hit my 8th Beast Hard to believe that I have 8 Beasts under my belt now. Iontgetit. Saving footage. Footed a really really crazy Beast that I've never seen before. i really want that one for my project.
 Got a 32 contact string that was pretty dense. Saving footage.
 Session started when I was helping Hogan with Spender. Filmed a really tiny tutorial thing on them. No warmup, hit both sides with 3 tries. Felt pretty good to see that I have Spenders down that well. By the looks of his footage, he is going to be hitting them very soon

A few people have been really really cool recently, saying stuff like my form has really improved a lot since whenever, or that I have good style, or that my Blenders are nice... That stuff really means a lot to me and it really helps me push myself further and do more Blenders :P But seriously, the stuff you guys have said really helps me mentally and physically.

So, I hope this one entertains you for a few minutes.

Have a good night.
Nick Polini

Wow, I can't believe I can even remember how to get to this forum, much less guess my login/password within 2 attempts. Good to know my memory is holding out!

Firstly, look at you mr. crazy shredder guy! You're amazing!

Secondly, I thought of you for a couple reasons recently...
- I see your yellow booger car on my way to work pretty frequently

- I hacked the other day.... in a video... for a major pharmaceutical company... LOL

Here's what happened... My client (pharmaceutical guy) had the idea to recreate Will Smith's "Summertime" video as a funny thing to show at the upcoming national sales meeting. He asked me, and a whole bunch of others, to be in the background of the video. He also asked me to do some basketball and hacky sack tricks. So, that happened.

Interestingly, after two warm up runs the night before (it's been YEARS since I have played) and a couple runs for the camera, I remembered why I don't play anymore. My back was so sore I could barely walk the next day. So weird. Playing competitive men's basketball doesn't hurt at all, but kicking a bean bag a few times nearly puts me down for the count.

Anyways, thought you'd enjoy that story. Swing by for a swim this summer! I can't hack anymore, but we can throw a Frisbee around or play corn hole (what a bad name for a game.. but it's fun to play).

Say hi to your folks too

Holy shit!!!!! Bob!!!!! Dude, please text me your number! I lost it when I had to restore my phone! I've been thinking about you too recently but, as I said, couldn't contact you due to lost number! I'd love to come chill soon. Really soon.. Its looking like I'll be calling Florida "home" come this July. I'd really like to see you before I leave, though. Give me a text asap (484 995 5639). Thanks for meeting up with that weird little high school kid at the ymca years ago and teaching him Hacky Sack... You changed my life and pushed me to show my true potential. Really awesome to hear from you, Bob.

One other thing I noticed watching that video again is that you only threw one left foot pixie the whole vid, and no fairy sets on either side...

TJ.. Looks like your found the holes in my game :P working on Pixies.. The only fairy tricks I care about are downtime rev Swirl concepts, like ss Blink, ss rev Swirl, ss twirl, ss Revup.

I filmed yesterday morning. Some really solid stuff that I'm quite pleased with. Footage for an upcoming video project.

Later, towards dusk, I drilled under a street light. Lots of Hopovers and Reverse Hopovers. I'm pretty convinced those are going to be the key to strengthening my flipside.

Highlights:

 Hopover> Reverse Hopover *rpt a bunch of contacts.. I think 10 on flip and 12 on strong...
 Drifter> Reverse Hopover> Hopover *rpt
 Drifter> Reverse Swirl> Reverse Hopover> Hopover *rpt
 Gyro Inside Stall> Hopover> Spinning Swirl bs
 Drilled Spinning Swirl a bit.. Figured out a key part of it then they b improved drastically on flipside.
 Mobius> Blur 3x bs
 Double Blender bs (2nd time on flip, 3rd on strong)
 Symp Drifter bs (new on both).. What a mind phuch...
 Blazing far Squeeze> ss Flapper bs Cool new uns link
 Hopover> Rev Hopover> op Inside *rpt each cycle grows by 1 more hop/rev hop each time around.. Got to 5 before my muscles were sore.

Today was cool. I got to do some electrofishing from our boat at work. Basically, we dip a really big metal rod in front of the boat in the water, blast electricity through it, and shock a bunch of fish. It doesn't kill them, but it does bring them to the surface, then we net them. We catch them to test for water contaminants. But uh.. Best day of work ever.

Saturday is going to be sick. Meeting up with Zach Hoffa, Ivan, and Ryan at this flow arts festival in PA. Going to be repping and ripping footbag all day. Maybe even fire bag at night, with maybe a few surprises in there.

Footbag is fun. Fish job is fun.

Good night.

Ya ok vassup.

Didn't really have a session today, but I hit 6 new tricks and I've got some footage on Instagram.

I was sitting at home, talking to Hogan and he got me thinking about Fog... DLO, specifically. My mind was wandering a bit and then something hit me...

Highlights:

 Toe Slaughter bs then bsos (new on both. Video: https://instagram.com/p/32W_npJUAF/?tak ... kthepolini
 Pdx Slaughter bs (new on both. Video: Strongside: https://instagram.com/p/32YngnpUCu/?tak ... kthepolini Flipside: https://instagram.com/p/32ZCoipUDU/?tak ... kthepolini
 Inspired by Kevin Hogan: Wonton Mirage (Backside Toe Blur) bs (No video)
 Cleared a Wonton Atomic set on both sides. I so want a Mirage after those.

I think a trick like Toe Slaughter is kinda what I need in my game. I don't do enough symposium tricks and I don't do enough toe tricks.. best of both worlds right here. I'm going to try to make it mine.

Spinstock tomorrow!!! Should be a blast! Gonna rep footbag hard! Hopefully we'll get some cool video from this.

The reason people don't do tricks like Slaughter and Massacre is that they're almost always unclean, so if you can get the second dex clean, you're up for a lot of props.

Wonton Atomic -> Wontomic. I'd say go for OP Mirage, that would be impressive, SS Mirage probably wouldn't look as good

Or, if you want to push the sport a bit, try Symposium Quantum Quantum stuff. I gave up on that set, you either need weird low dexes or some serious air time.

Nathan: I cleared a few more Wontomic sets the other day. One was like "why did you do nothing for 3 seconds after the atomic set...?" Could have done almost anything after that. I'll get some stuff eventually.

So, as I've been talking about, yesterday was Spinstock flow arts fest. Lots of chicks spinning hoops and poi. Some hipster electronic-lookin dudes spinning balancey sticks and poi. Some of those people were incredible at what they do. Really awesome jam.

I met up with Ivan and Ryan at my place, then we set out to meet up with Zach.

The footbag session was so sick. They blocked off this medium sized street and we played there, having the whole street to ourselves.

Ryan was having some pretty good runs. Ivan hit some new tricks, which I'm sure he'll mention in his blog. Zach doesn't blog, so I'll blog it for him. He was hitting a lot of new stuff. Like DLO from toe bs, then bsos.. Double Spinning Toe, Atomic Spinning Toe, etc.. He said he's thinking about getting back into it, so I'm hoping Ivan and Zach start meeting up, maybe while I'm still in the area. I was having one of the best sessions of my days.

Highlights:

 Finally felt creativity, variety, and density all in one longer run, multiple times. Those were some of my best runs ever.
 A super clean Christina Aguilera. Ivan confirmed cleanliness.
 Opened a good longer run with Montage
 Food> Blurry Torque
 Dragonstein bs! Never done flip before and didnt think I could... but apparently my Ripsteins got way better on flipside. Also hit Infinity> Ripstein *rpt, like it was pudding.
 Whirlwalk (Whirling op Whirl) bs!!! Woo! First time on each side! That one is for Boatz. He and I talked about that trick last week. He told me I could do it and he was right.
 Symple Motion from far Clipper (Anton suggested this one recently, because he thought I could do it.. he was right) Great fun trick.
 Whirr> Barfly> Whirr> Drop on Barfly
 Toe Far Symp Blink bs (new on flip... Footed b2b)
 Did one run with almost every Blink in it- started with Spinning Blink then did all the basic Blinks bs, including Pdx Blink bs. Felt nice.
 Opened a run with Mobius> PS Whirl> Spinning Ducking Butter> Blender
 Opened a run with Blazing DLO

I was hitting a lot of nice runs which made me happy.

Later on, we did a fire demonstration with the spinners. Ivan's got it on video. It was Ivan, Zach, and me all in together. we did a few tricks, then pass to the next person. Unfortunately, it was during this performance that I really threw my back out.

I'm gonna be out of it for a little while.. Hopefully not too long. But I'm gonna do what I always do when I'm injured... stitch footbags :P That's pretty much the only time I stitch. But maybe I'll sell some bags.. who knows. Gonna try to finish a bag I started last night now.

Later.

hey nick you are really an inspiration to me although ive only met u twice. in those two times I have grown largely as a player. thank you for pushing me to work on my flipside(where I am lacking) because it is absolutely terrible right now. I completely forgot about you moving to florida. I hope me you and Nathan can get in a few good sessions before you have to migrate down south. I hope it brings you more challenges and brings you to new heights.

LOLPAUL

Carter: Thanks man, when I hear that I inspire players to get better, that makes me really happy. I really hope you stick with it. You've got so much potential. Already learning Ducking Butters, jeez. Quick learner. Just keep listening to Nathan. I spent enough time teaching him, to the point where he basically now knows everything I know. You, Nate, and Danny are going to be a sick shred trio in the future, I just know it. I'm sure we'll get to play again soonish. I've got another month and a half here, plus I'll most definitely kick with you guys when I come home to visit my parents. Keep pushing, man, and keep updating your blog. I'll be keeping an eye on it and keeping up with your highlights. Focus on the basics.. they will take you further than trying bigger tricks.

Oh hey, Blog, didn't see you there.

So, as I said before, my back is whack. Good newses though:

1) My back feels so much better since the time when Ryan and Ivan were driving me home in my waaa!mbulence. Those guys are saints for dealing with me on that ride home. I kept wining and saying "ow" and other hurty words. Thanks again, guys. Well, only Ivan will maybe see this, because I dont think Ryan uses Modified.

2) I saw a chiropractor yesterday. First time I've ever seen one, but I really didn't want to mess around with my health, especially when it's something as important as my back. For one, my right leg is apparently longer than my left.. Thanks, Doc, what a self-esteem boost... He's really cool though. He went to PSU and ALSO used to play hack back in the day. He said the biggest trick he could do was when you squeeze it between your feet and jump with both feet, serving the bag. I think that's called "Ice Age: The Meltdown".. Kevin can correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, chiro went really well. Back feels a little better.

I soaked in my grandmother's jacuzzi today for a little while and that was luxurious. My back felt a lot better after that. Still trying to take it easy.

Oh, one interesting thing that the doctor told me yesterday is that if I'm going to play footbag as hard as I do, I need to take part in another activity that is very restful/relaxing/good for the body. He suggested yoga... go figure.. Landes was right on the spot. So I'm going to start doing yoga again.

I don't really have much important stuff to say, other than I'm doing well, mentally.. Aside from being pretty nervous for my huge move to Florida.

I just sold a new footbag to Mike Wilson, so that's neat. Stitching more soon.

I think that's everything I wanted to say...

Oh, Matt Kemmer should be coming to visit me for the weekend this weekend or next weekend. Hopefully next weekend, because I dont think I'll be able to play this weekend.

The end. Sorry for the boring, life-stuff post.

Oh yeah, I also wrote a joke about potatoes. Gotta get my ass to some more open mics soon.

I enjoy lizards. I think I'm going to get a blue-tongued skink when I move to Florida.

Here's a video Ivan made of us playing with fire. You can see when I get hurt in the video. It's during the Mirage> Legover string where I try to stretch and crack my back afterward :/

Yeah, I remember that video. So sick... But so one sided :P Don't get me wrong, I cant do any of that, I just have a very OCD sort of attitude toward both sidedness.. If I hit a trick on just one side, I find it hard to let myself day that I hit it at all. Or if I can do it on one side only, I don't like to do it very often. I feel bad about doing that trick usually... Which is why I can now do Ripstein bs pretty evenly. Also the reason that I want to work towards hitting Superfly on flipside when I come back to footbag. Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling about this so I can ramble about other stuff.

My back still sucks... But less than before. I talked to Landes the other day about our backs (we both messed up our backs around the same time), and he gave me some good yoga poses for my back... Then he went a step further and invited me to do a Skype yoga session with him. So I did that. It was really cool. Doing footbag-specific yoga with a yoga master, in Portland... Totally awesome. It. Did my back a lot of good.

Been doing some yoga that Nick suggested and I've been feeling better and better. Thinking that I'll be playing again late next week.

Really want to play footbag... Can't wait til I can play again.

I've been stitching footbags, binge-watching Orange Is The New Black, working, and day dreaming about the day my back feels better. I've been spending a good bit of time analyzing Superfly on my flipside. I think I can get it soon. Soon, I might post pics of the 2 bags I made. Monistere wants one now, so does Paul, and same with Steve L. Sold my first one to Mike Wilson the other day, so that was cool. First bag I've sold in more than a year. Anyway, I have nothing to talk about, footbag-wise... Really wish I did.

That's the first time someone brought up my video in a constructive manner :D

Jindra is very both sided, even on the hardest tricks. These days, he invents stuff and then hits it flipside. He has a video in the making so I'm not going to spoil anything. The Massacre stuff was just me suggesting a new trick to him and then him trying to hit it after all sets imaginable in one session. :)

Vojta: Looking forward to that video. I can't imagine what it'll have in it.

My back injury is much much better, finally. I've been taking it pretty easy. Had a few basics sessions this week, just trying to learn ATW & Orbit again, basically. Then I had a few better sessions today and 2 days ago.

Highlights from da other day:

 Spinning Ducking Osis> Reverse Hopover> Hopover *rpt
 Spinning Ducking Osis> Spinning Ducking Flapper BSOS
 Ended that session on Blurry Whirl> Blizzard> Toe Blur bs

Highlights from taday:

 Ducking Pdx Blink bs! New on flipside!
 Toe Ducking op Blink bs! New on both! That was areal thrill. I absolutely love how that trick feels. Now I want to hit it b2b, holy shit, that would look so good.
 Revup> Quantum op Clipper bs

Was going to mess with Diving Blink, but I'll try it this weekend. I really love Blink tricks. They're so satisfying.

This weekend is going to be fun. I have a secret visitor who is secretly visiting me in secret. I'll post some footage, for sure. Maybe even make a video... but it looks like the whole local PA scene will be coming out this weekend to secretly kick with my secret visitor and me. Ivan, Ryan, and Hoffa, for sure.. Then Bonslaver and his crew might be coming down, too. Hopefully a few of us can do some kayaking this weekend, too. That should be fun. Last time I did a footbag kayak trip was when I went to visit John Goode (RIP). He's not dead, he just doesn't play footbag anymore. It's a shame, because he had such a great style and cool trick selection. oh well. I don't particularly enjoy how I didn't capitalize the "o" in "oh well", but for some reason, I don't feel like going back and correcting it. Almost seems counterproductive to write about the capitalization error instead of just going back and fixing it. oh well. There, I did it again. It's my blog, so fuck you, capitalization rules.

I started training Sergio from Madrid. I give him homework every few days, he takes video of it, then I give him new homework. It's been fun so far.

Oh, Paul G and I are creating a shred collab video project thing, so be on the look out for that. It's going to basically be featuring a bunch of players who are not BAP, but still really good. The entries are amazing so far. I feel really good about it.

The end.

That's all. Footbag fun yay.

So here's a really really way cool write-up.

In case you haven't heard it in Ivan's blog or somewhere else, Matt "El Kemino" Kemmer drove 5 hours from upstate New York to hang out with us for the weekend. What a great weekend it turned out to be, despite heavy rains yesterday.

Saturday:

Ivan and Ryan come over my house and we catch up a bit then turn on this really good movie, Sound of Noise. Don't ask questions, just watch it. It's on Netflix. It's pretty incredible. Anyway, we almost finished it, when we heard a some knocking at the door.

*knock knock.. knockknockknockknock-knockk-knockknockkk* <--That's a direct quote. He was going off on the door.

Ivan got up to open it...

Image

It's Matt Kemmer! and Zach Hoffa! They showed up at the same time! How fun!

They came in, we said our hey's and hi's, then we packed up to go to the session.

It was raining pretty heavily, so we had to find a place where we could play under shelter. We found a place to play underneath a stage in a park near my house. The acoustics were so trippy. Ivan would be standing far away from me in the other circle, but his voice would bounce off of the curved wall behind me and sound just like he was IN MY HEAD. This happened way too often and it was hard to tell who was saying what, which made for a fun and funny time.

Soon after we started, Bonslaver showed up! It was good to see ell these people again. Last time I saw some of them was months ago, specifically Zach and Kemmer. I also hadn't played with Nathan for about a month (Sorry dude!), so it was awesome to see how much he progressed.

Here's some instargammys of Saturday's shred:

Bonslaver: https://instagram.com/p/4dAhKMpUNR/?tak ... kthepolini
Kemmer: https://instagram.com/p/4dBKqdJUOu/?tak ... kthepolini

Zach brought his girlfriend along, but she didn't want to walk in the rain, so she stayed in the car THE WHOLE TIME! Kind of hilarious, but Zach said she was alright.

We had a pretty awesome time here, despite the rain. Kemmer filled his water bottle up with rain water running off from the top of the stage, then proceeded to drink it "Tastes fine." haha that kid cracks me up.

Everyone was playing pretty well. Nathan was on fire, doing a lot of new stuff I'd never seen him do. Ryan was getting some good Stepping sets and he did a few nice Pixie tricks, which I didn't know he could do. He was also hitting Whirls both sides, which is new for him, too. Ivan's game is looking very dense, as of lately. Can't wait to watch what happens when he can weed out a few more of his bails. Zach was hitting lots of nice links. I specificaly remember him trying Double Spinning and it just looked so beautiful and easy. Same with Bonslaver. Kemmer just sat in a car for 5 hours, so it took him a bit to warm up, but he was hitting some nice, long, dense strings. I felt like I was playing quite well. There was one circle with Ivan and Zach, that I couldn't stop getting props in. I know I shouldn't end a sentence in a proposition, but life throws curve balls sometimes and now you have to deal with it. I know it's bugging me too.. back to footbag.

Highlights:

 Blurriest> Scorps> Maelstrom> Spinning Whirl
 Mobius> PS Whirl> Spinning Whirl> Spender
 Flapper> Whirlwind (Nathan's request.. Then he told everyone)
 Alpine Fog
 Big Apple
 Whip> Barfly *rpt
 Void> Blink BSOS

So after the session, everyone headed home, and Matt came back to my place with me to hang out. We talked for a long while and then watched Jurassic Park. It was cool to get to talk to Matt more. I mean, we've been friends for a few years now, but I never actually get to hang out and talk with him too much about stuff that's not footbag. Don't get me wrong, we talked a lot about footbag, but it was cool to talk about life with him, too. Matt passed out half-way through the movie, so I took that opportunity to spike his cup of water with a heavy laxative. Then I went to bed.

Sunday:

Woke up around 6 to feed my cats and my koi. Didn't want to wake Matt up that early, so I sat and meditated at the koi pond for a while. That was peaceful.

Finally woke up Matt and he got dressed and we watched this hilariously dumb brittish Netflix show called "Pompidous". After that, we unlocked my electric bikes and rode to a nearby diner for breakfast. Matt rode mine and I rode my dad's. Matt had never ridden an ebike before, and I could tell he was having a lot of fun with it.
It was a really nice ride to the diner along a nearby bike trail. Got in, ate food, got out, started riding home. Didn't know what to do with the empty box of canolis that we ordered, so I stuck it in my bike frame above the front tire and tried to ride but it made a funny noise and sounded like a bad ass motorcycle. So Matt filmed it.
We got back to my house and threw some shorts on and were ready to shred. Canal Day, an annual festival that celebrates our neighboring canal, was going on, so we went down there and played there. We got a lot of positive feedback from passersby.

Matt and I both agreed that this session was as awesome as the jam we had with Hogan in Boston last year. Such a great duo sesh. We vibed off of each other's games the whole time. It's great playing with someone who is equal level to you.

Matt can take care of his highlights in his blog, but he had some that really made me want to poop 'em. Specifically the one link that he hit both sides. Just bizarre sick. I played so well. Both of us played better than yesterday.

Highlights:

Here's the Solestice world record:
Some drunk guy came at the end of the session and kicked with us.. ended up busting my favorite bag that I ever made. Fuck. Oh, and I made Kemmer a footbag for taking the trip down to my area. We played with it towards the end of the session. It played pretty ok, still needs to be broken in a bit. Matt said he liked it though.

We went back to my house, discussed some footbag stuff in my kitchen, then my cat jumped up on the sink and I turned the water on for him to drink from. Matt then said that he was also thirsty, so he joined my cat and also drank from the faucet. Adorbz.

Matt got a shower and we bid each other a good afternoon.

Thanks again for coming, Matt. You're the man. It was awesome to get to know you better. I'm glad we became good friends through this weird sport. You can and should totally come to visit me when I'm in Florida next winter, because it'll be anti-snowy. Thanks for everything, man. It's been fun.

PS. I stuffed your bookbag with a handful of those soft mints that you didn't want... wait, no, 2 hanfuls, one in each bookbag. Enjoy those or pawn them off on Murphy next time you play hacky sack with him hahaha Also, I love that you're a Reverse Swirler now!

Also, thanks to the other PA guys for coming out. I know it was a bit of a drive for a few of you. Great kicking with all of you guys again.

I finally finished filming my part for the video project. Really excited about it. Certainly my best video yet. Easily better than the Dear Tony Hawk, Sponsor Me video that I made last year.

Not going to reveal any highlights that I had on film for my part, but I did hit my 9th Beast today. It's crazy how I used to see Beasts and be like "Holy crap, I'm never going to hit a Beast. Those are too big for me.".. Now I hit one more and I'm at a total of 10! Surreal stuff. I'd like my 10th Beast to be the flipside of Food>Spender> Spender. It would be nice to have one Beast be the flipside of a previous one. The Beast I hit today is probably the hardest or second hardest Beast I've hit. Perhaps it's on par with the Marius> Spender> Marius, and it's Pdx Whirl free in 2 out of 3 tricks. Hyped on the whole project.

Anyway, after I finished filming today, I tried to get a really long string to end the session. I physically couldn't do any more, so I dropped, but here it is:
Really happy that my part of the video project is totally finished.

Oh I had a trippy footbag dream last night, where I was at some footbag tournament, but it was like sort of an Iron Man competition, except, the first challenge was that you had to climb up on the high dive at this big pool, where the tournament was taking place, and you had to do some tricks up on top of it, then dive off and the judges would score your dive. Anyway, long story short, it was my turn to go, but I decided to scratch, then I shat my pants, and everyone made fun of me.

Sleep time.
