It's not the fact that the name carries over. It's the fact that in Europe (as well as other countries) footbag is viewed as a sport, or at least as an athletic activity. In the United States of America footbag is referred to as hacky sack and the people who refer to it in that manner often associate the word with a hobby, a way to avoid responsibility, and an excuse to be a lazy bum. Changing Americans' views of anything is extremely difficult, because the general public has become extremely stubborn.

However, dudes... Euro's looked awesome, so I mean, who am I to argue that they are progressing?

However again, don't forget that y'all wouldn't be as far as you were without the likes of people such as Shults, who created the sport, or at least forty-some tricks. America has contributed just as much to the sport as Europe, except that y'all take it for granted because it was in the past. I'd say America (United States of America, my bad - see, I told you we're stubborn as hell ) helped set up the foundation for freestyle, and that Europe is helping it grow. Y'all are the water, we're the roots.

Excuse me, but here in Poland that what you are calling hacky-sack was born after I-st World War and befor II World War... And It's called witha a women name = Zo?ka ... And this is just a game... we still are using this name because it's our national name... But promote footbag as a sport here in Poland is same hard like in USA... Zoska is in Poland for over 70 years... And we have about 100 players (I suppose) and on Polish Champs there was over 50 players... And footbag, as a sport, is in Poland since 2000... That's only 4 years...
