Erik, does it look like this? It was posted on ShackNews a couple days ago.

And, for those interested (anyone?), I think I have the hardware thing figured out. I'll probably be getting the Powercolor Radeon x700, but the PNY GeForce 6600 doesn't look bad either, though it isn't as good of a card for Oblivion. I figured with new ram, a dvd-rom drive, a new v.card, and the game, I'll be spending about $260 on Oblivion, which is more money than I've spent on entertainment all year....

Yeah, it totally is.
Here are some screenshots I took. I just realized that my old screenshots were, like, nearly a meg each!! for a crappy little low-res image. So I compressed these to JPEG:

Been playing lots, and I've seen a whole whack-load of ferociously strong creatures (Minataurs, Spriggans, and Land Dreughs. Oh, Goblin Shamans are freakin hard too. More recently, I found Netch Liches which are bad if you can't dodge their magic).

Spoiler

Phew. I bought a house in Bruma, because the town looks so wonderful. I also stole almost everything from the gaurds and inside every shop to fund for my house - it's still really unfurnished but surely it will be looking good. Currently I've just explored a little chunk east of Bruma and then went back down to the Imperial City to continue on with the Theives Guild quests.

And I'm curious, what is everybody's favorite weapon(s)? I have an Elven Bow and an Elven Longsword! The sword looks sooooo sweet! I'm thinking of enchanting it so I don't have to rely on Silver Arrows when I go into Elven shrines all the time, but I only have two Sigil Stones right now. :(

i use bows. I have a powerful dagger, but i never use it. I enchanted an ebony bow with 30 magic damage and called it ramrod. Then i enchanted a glass bow with discentigrate weapon 50. Then i have my normal bow which i use most of the time unless i fight something powerful. I normally carry around 100 iron arrows, 100 steel arrows, 100 dwarven arrows, 70-100 elven arrows, 70-100 glass arrows, and 50 ebony arrows.

Basically now i don't even have to fight anything. I have a mask that gives 25 to sneak and i use the ring that give 35% camelleon. I can be right in front of someone and they won't see me.

I should start enchanting arrows

My favourite sword is called "ebony blade", I think. It's an ebony long sword with 21 attack, and some enchantment (silence and something else). The combination of the enchantment and the high attack is why I use it, though my Umbra is attack 19 with soul trap, which is also neat. And I have a sword that does 20 shock damage or something with attack 16?

I think I use an ebony bow with an enchantment. I haven't done much marksman lately. I have lots of arrows, but mostly just steel, since I found some goblins with hundreds of them. I have like 10-30 of every kind, but, like 150 of those.

I also have a staff of 80 shock damage which I use when I'm kind a bind, and a staff of 20 fire damage and 100% weakness to fire (and something else too). But I don't use magic for much else other than restoration (which I'm pretty terrible at. I tried to make a spell, but my magicka is so low that it wouldn't do anything...)

I also have lots of magic items. I have ring of the Khajiiti, which is like 35 Chameleon or something? I have another item that is 20 chameleon, and a mythril cuirass (KWIH-russ -- I looked it up!) with 15 chameleon. I can walk into enemies and they don't notice me (like I can push them out of my way!) The only time it doesn't really work is in broad daylight. I also just picked up some enhance strength and health rings, so my total weight capacity is 470!! (And I'm a Bosmer...)

Some of the enemies I try to avoid most of the time are Will-o-the-Wisps (I don't think they are that tough for me anymore but I had a traumatizing first experience!), Minotaur Lords(!), Spriggans, Ogres...I think that's about it. Those Daedric Spiders are crazy too. I think I've only seen one. They look a lot like Dreughs.

I have this one item worth 10,000 gold!! It's an enchanted Daedric shield (reflect spell 20% I think)... I'm not heavy armour though, so I have no use for it, and nobody will ever be able to buy it from me. I also recently picked up a "Waraxe of Damnation" which was worth quite a bit.

EDIT: Oh! I actually have a bunch of items worth that much! I just used a ring worth 10,000 in the main quest. Finally useless expensive items come in handy :D

Yah I finally got my computer built and bought the game. Got about 40 hours into it.. I have Dunmer custom class (mish mash of battlemage and assassin), who is also a vampire now. Trying to finish up the mage guild recommendations right now and some other random side quests. Have only done 5 or so of the main quests, don't have any good items or spells. I'm in the order of the virtuous blood (vampire hunters, lol), mage guild, fighter's guild, blades, and the dark brother hood ha, I'm curious how this is all going to work out.

I think I have to redo the quest I have been working on, thieves guild quest.. have to steal a recovered stolen ring from the count of the town.. She had 2 of them and i stole them both, but now the person who wants the ring told me she'll pay me double to steal them.. (skipped a step during the quest). Anyone else have this problem?

My boss also bought this game, the day after he bought it we talked about it for like 20 minutes! So now he asks me for tips and crap while we're working.

Does anyone else not like the Oblivion gates? They're so boring -- everything looks the same. I started out closing three in total after the first one you close in the main quest. Now that I have to close more for the main quest, I don't really want to, and I'm avoiding it :?

Something my brother told me is that the Sigil Stones generate randomly! So for my second two I got, like, silence and damage fatigue...two pretty crappy properties, I felt. With my fourth, after my brother told me about that, I quicksaved and kept reloading until I got something worthwhile. It took about 5 tries, but I got 25% shock damage, which is pretty cool. I just don't have anything worthwhile to enchant with it yet...I need, like, a Daedric longsword, or something with a decent attack.

I'm doing some main quest stuff. It was fun until I had to close gates. Blech. There are some really awesome quests, though. And I love talking to Sean Bean!! :D Mahnkor(?) Camoran is pretty cool too. There's a rad segment of his voice actor on the Making Of DVD -- he's super into it!

I bought a new house. I had the one in Anvil, which is pretty cool, but the multiple doors make it a pain to run around in, because of the loading times. I got one in Bruma, and it's all one area, so that's neat. I needed somewhere closer to keep all my stuff at.

I kind of heard talk about giants; are there any in the game outside of mods? That would be so great. I think I was wishing there were giants when I played Morrowind. Giants make remind me of Warlords (the really old, awesome computer game), and the super old Narnia TV movies that I watched when I was little. The Silver Chair had those rock giants in it.

Oh yeah, I had lost the Prior's horse AGES ago, and I was sure it died, but recently found it at Weynon Priory. I think it might be invincible? That would be nice, although at my last ruin I came outside and found it killed by a Spriggan :? That's how all my horses have been killed lately, while I was inside a dungeon. Before that I found my horse laying dead where I left it beside a dead bandit... Sometimes the AI is cool though. I forget if I told this before, but I was just riding down the road once, and I was kind of panning my view, looking around, and to my right, in the distance in the forest I saw a mage running at top speed. A second later a minotaur came chasing after him. Then they both just disappeared into the trees :)

I used to play Morrowind and so did Toby. He has Oblivion now and he bought it over to test on my computer since I built it recently and it has a 7800GT :).

Here are the results of about half an hours playing round:

And here is a comparisson of AA with bloom, HDR and AA with no bloom (I can't use HDR and AA at the same time?):

A few days ago my little cousin saved over my file on accident, turning my level 23 kick-ass Bosmer into a level 1 Redguard. Ouch!! .

Anywho, before that I had an Acrobats Amulet, which fortifies your Speed, Acrobatics and Athletics by 20 points each. I was Expert in Sneaking and so close to being an Expert in both Marksman and Light Armor. Found a Grand Ring of Strength which fortifies your Strength 10 points and another Ring (found in Pale Pass - a treasure hunt for keys in an area densely populated with Ogres) that fortifies your Strength, Speed, Endurance, Intelligence and Agility by 3 points each or something.

Oh, and I was also just outside of Bruma one time when a Brown Bear came after me. After killing it, I saw that it had an Iron Arrow and didn't know where from (I used Silver Arrows). I kept going on my way and found a dead Bandit with an Ebony Bow and Iron Arrows. Score!

So yeah. Now I'm trying out an Orc powerhouse tank (but the last two major skills are Security and Alchemy). I've just been fighting in the Arena and got up to Gladiator rank but now the opponents are too tough. I need to find myself a Silver or Enchanted Warhammer so I can begin scavaging the Elven Ruins.

Sucky :(
I was really paranoid about my brothers saving over my games on my computer, so I made, like, 4 saved games for one character. Super backup!
Starting a new character is fun, though. I think I will do full magic after the assassin I'm playing now.

I installed a few mods recently.
I got the one that increases the amount of inventory you can view in the menus. I got one that lets quest items level with your character. I got one that makes enemies actually search for you before the eye lights up (I'm using the hardest of the three options, but it's kind of the reverse problem now -- they never find me. I guess because I have such a high chameleon level. I wanted to install the colour map, but I wasn't sure how to use the special mod organizer thing. I was also debating whether to use horse saddlebags and horse call...but those felt like cheating too much. I was going to try to get the textures mod too, but I think I needed that mod organizer thingy for that too.

I started a new character again, just about the same as my first one but a few different changes:

- Male Bosmer that, when wearing the Robes and Hood from the Assassins in the beginning, looks like Darth Maul (sp?)
- Instead of having Alchemy as a major skill I changed it to Armorer (Marksman, Blade, Block, Armorer, Light Armor, Security and Sneak)
- Chose Strength and Agility instead of Speed and Agility

Wish I could get a pic uploaded for you guys.

Email me the pic and I cost host it?

I saw a custom made character that had all the red/black marks that Darth Maul had. It was a Khajiit. It was on some forum. Is yours like that?

I know this thread has been dead a while, but I just finally started playing! Fun times, but I'm having one annoyance. That big yellow exclamation mark thing has been showing up far too often. I was in a ruin and 4 out of the 5 bandits there were enveloped by that lumbering block. Do any of you guys know any way I could pinpoint what's causing that? It's like a missing file or something from what I've heard... but I'm not really sure.

EDIT: I removed Oscura's Oblivion Overhaul, which fixed the "only see stuff near your own level" problem. That mod came really highly recommended on various sites, but it creates several other enemy classes, and I think that caused the problem. I replaced it with a different mod and everything is better : )

So you don't have the lumbering block problem anymore?
As far as I know it's just an item in the game. I don't know why it would just show up in places unless there is a glitch in the mods you're using.

I haven't been able to play lately, but I finished the main quest a while back; it's hard to say how I felt about that. It definately ended too quickly. The ending was both awesome and not awesome enough. I wished I had done more side stuff before finishing. The thing is that I thought I was and then it just suddenly ended, it felt like...

It's still awesome though. If I get some stuff done now maybe I will have time to play a bit :)

A few nights ago we were driving home from my brother's concert and we saw a huge lit-up thing in the shape of a diamond, and I yelled out "Varla stone!!", because it looked just like it. It was really cool. It was actually the cross of a church on some big pillar lit up with a sort of holder like that that holds the Varla stones, and we saw it from the side so it looked like some abstract, tall shape.

I think the big yellow exclamation point can come from more than just that <missing> item; others have said that if there are texture overlap glitches or other missing files for a character model that that same thing will happen. I haven't had any more big yellow blocks since I uninstalled Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

Morrowind is great too Sam! If you never want to have money troubles choose Alchemy and collect all the ingredients you can. Good potions (good or bad) are worth a good bunch of gold :).

Money is much harder to come by in Morrowind because the merchants actually run out; it's a good strategy to buy useful items from a merchant to give them money and to get what you need, and then to sell your expensive items to them to get your money back. That was a pretty bad sentence -- I hope it makes sense.

A simple but good strategy is to use the Silt Striders, Mages Guild teleporters, and ships (though not really necessary as much) to get around Vvardenfell.

I've played Morrowind to death, so if you need any help you can ask :D I love Morrowind -- I think that it has more enjoyment value and excitement than Oblivion overall (where a lot of the excitement is in the novelty of the graphics, AI, and physics). I think one of Oblivion's strongest points, though, is that the world seems a lot more "real". There are "real" fantasy creatures, like goblins, trolls, minotaurs, etc; there are real plants and fruits and vegetables, and animals...whereas almost everything up in Morrowind (the province and the game) is alien to reality.

I <3 Morrowind. You're definitely not doing bad by playing that game. I don't know if there's much to recommend, except exploring a lot. I would suggest not taking Silt Striders anywhere you haven't walked to first. You get a lot stronger and find a lot more things by walking to places. Also, it took me a bit to get into the game. You start out and that's it-- it's not linear at all. That was hard for me to get my head around at first.
