Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
I had a session last night with Mark, April, Khoa, and Kat.
This was not a particularly productive session for me but that is another reason to practice more.
On the plus side, I hit a bad pixie legover. On the other plus side, after the post-session goofing around, I took off my right shoe and attempted double atw with a teensy bag April made. I hit it on the third try! Woo! Now if I could only do it with shoes on... with a regular bag... in a string... on both sides... dotdotdot.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
I had the first productive drill session since winter break today.
April, Ivan, Kat, me.
Ivan helped me with muted clippers, legovers, and pickups.
I hit 8 muted clippers b2b (new record,) 10 legovers b2b (not a new record,) and 10 pickups b2b (new record.)
My world was changed when Ivan helped me reconfigure my pickups and, for the second time in a month, have almost completely changed how I execute them. Legovers remain easier and I feel as though I made semi-ok progress with muted clipper > clipper.
My overall clipper record is more, but I've been trying to get into the habit of muting just about everything. When I see the double step clipper > clipper, I just think about how ugly it seems.
On an unrelated note, I cannot wait for the PSU JAM! Awww Yeaahh! It will pretty much mark a year for my involvement in freestyle footbag.
I need to get better at infinities.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Hello.
I love footbag.
This weekend was amazing. I went into work tonight and, upon seeing one of my coworkers, asked him how his break was. He said good and asked how mine was. I walked away because I knew I'd be too excited. Having only Nate Pipensomething, Nick Powhatever, Mike Toolshutupface, and Nadine Smith was enough to inspire a good enough time that made my otherwise ordinary weekend seem like a week-long event. Saturday consisted of a good 4 hours of play that ended up with Nick sacrificing some of his shred time to give me a brief introductory to popping sets, which I plan on working on in the near future. He also helped me with stepping and flip whirl. These are things I still need a lot of practice with as well as as much advice as possible. P-p-p-please help, footbag people. My weak stepping hits the back of knee and I'm not fully confident with my timing on either side. I will be kicking at 11:15 this morning and will work on it then but still need more coaching.
Saturday night was super fun. SQIRT was invented (a rule-based drinking game consisting of squirting a MIO type bottle filled with liquor into the offender's mouth as a punishment.) We played 4-square, Cards Against Humanity, and had lots of fun.
Sunday was awful. I went to the session 15 minutes early since my legs were crazy sore. It took me that long to warm up and stretch. After the warm up, I was still tired and dead. I managed to get about 2 good hours of shred/drill into the session before I had to go to work. I should have called off. I work at the freshman dining commons. Which is more important?
Anywhooooooooo, PSU JAM is coming up and I am excited. I will train hard and kick much in anticipation.

Today: Had a fun session with Aidan. This conversation took place:
Aidan: "Is this a trick?" *foots drifter*
Ben: "@#$%, that's drifter. Awesome!"
Aidan helped me hit my first toe swirl on strong side as well as foot it on weakside. I've never even footed weak swirl from clipper, so I think practicing toe swirls on each side will only help. My legs feel a lot better but I still may take the day off tomorrow.

Ben Baby Yak, it was a pleasure to play and enjoy the kick with you. You're getting more flow to your game and that's nice to see. Can't wait tip the Jamps!

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Hello Dawgs.
Believe it or not, I have played since my last post but made no new progress. Ivan has been helping me with anti-drop practice. Instead of individual tricks to hand catch, he's pushing me more towards multi-trick drills and links to hit.
Since then, I have been sick for a while.
Something went horribly wrong in my sinuses and I managed to get a painful blockage in my left ear.
April helped me flush the blockage out (ew) and I have since been feeling a lot better.
I played for a teensy bit before work on Monday? And then played two sessions yesterday. My stepping needs a lot of work but I am getting closer to blur than I thought I would be at this point in the year. My issue is the timing of the pdx mirage. I need more of them. I finally hit toe swirling toe.
Footbag! Excited for Jamps I am.

What about just Toe Swirl? That's a great trick. But hell props on Reverse Blink! That's a sick trick. I found out the secret to Stepping is hitting Sidewalks

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
We got a metric butt-ton of snow yesterday... all day, so I shirked my footbag responsibility. I was originally going to break in the new hardwood at my apartment but ended up getting there past 11p.
I made up for yesterday's laziness with a massive session today! The PSU crew once again kicked butt. Ivan, Ryan, Marc, Kat, Aidan, Aidan's brother Brandon, Khoa, Nathan, and April made the three hours well worth it!! Exclamation! I felt so good today, I nearly shat myself (figuratively speaking.) Long (for me) tiltless-ish strings with silly stylee tricks are getting easier for me.
Highlights:
-FUN.
-New Glitch Mob got me pumped!
-Clipper > far rev guay bs (nifty lil' trick I like)
-Spinning tips from Nathan
-A few decent stepping sets
-A few decent pixie set
-Infinity x 4 (old record that I haven't been able to re-hit)
In other news, I had and am still having a great Valentine's Day with April. She amazing the dookie out of me during the session. She is shredding more and more every session. I used to look over and see her kind of bored midway through the session, then she'd be drilling legovers and atw. Now, she's avidly drilling osis, butterfly, swirl, along with her basics. She's coming along quicker than something that is very quick.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Hi Futeblog!
This morning, Ivan and I had another 11ish am session. It lasted until about 12:30 and seemed to take a toll on my legs. First, we practiced drifters. Before this session I have only hit strong side drifter once or twice. They were all from toe today and we took turns with 5 attempts each then alternate sides. I am not used to the drifter motion and have never really given weak side a try. My weak side form seems a little better since Ivan's help as well as my strong side. I still have a lot of getting used to to do for both.
After drifters, we pixies. My weak pixie is very inconsistent as well as lacking in power. The drilling seemed to help but I already know that it needs a lot more. Strong pixie seems to be developing well.
After pixies, Ivan atomic'd and I realized how far out of practice my atomics are. Even when I was practicing them, they still severally lacked both power and consistency.
Finally, my osis sucks, my pdx mirage is getting better, my butterflies suck, my sets are weak and misdirected, and my strings are demoralizingly short. There are a million other things wrong with my game, but those are the key points I am choosing to focus on.

Yeah, I honestly felt like shit during our session today, really tired and my legs didn't want to obey and sets weren't going as high as they should have. I enjoyed our pixie practice, even though I don't really care for them.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Ivan, I am ready for our weekly drill time this coming Tuesday! The flip pixie work helped a bit I think but the drifter help you provided me with is very valuable. Much thanks.
I took Friday and Saturday off due to the amount of strain practicing stepping and drifter can do to one's legs. I did kick today (OUTSIDE, WHOAAAA) for a bit with the club. It was awesome to play on concrete for the first time in a long time. The traction felt amazazaing!! I had to go to work after an hour and didn't try any spinning but I still appreciated the grip the concrete provided. After giving them some time to heal after being ripped apart by Tuesday's practice, my legs are a lot more comfortable with drifter motions.
I mainly have 3 problems with them but have been given the solutions by Ivan AwesomecoachMenko.
1. Problem: Set is too far out. Solution: Lock ankle and point toe upward to provide a close, consistent set.
2. Problem: Dex is too small. Solution: Heighten that knee while keeping close.
3. Problem: Bag hits foot instead of stalls on foot. Solution: Have dexing leg foot cocked right from the quick-switch.
Drifters need a lot more work but with all the work I have been putting in from toe, I doubt they'll be much of a problem from clipper. My weak side is about as consistent as my strong side but they are still lacking in final execution. I have been afraid of drifters for a long time but it's nice to see them, finally, as a reasonable, somewhat close goal.

I am going through some personal stuff right now, don't know if I will be up for it mentally come Tuesday. If not, don't let it stop you from going to a court and drilling.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Woo! This morning I spent an hour and half drilling in the squash courts. Nick gave me some drills and I was able to complete them... eventually.
Calf roll > ss clipper 10x bs
Pdx mirage > butter 10x bs
Toe drifter 10 attemps bs
-1 completion on each side (exceeded my expectations for 10 attempts)
Clipper far legover > ss butter 10x bs
I finished with 5 belly button-height stepping sets. Nick had given me Stepping ss toe > op clipper, but I was just hitting a lazy, midtime near mirage. Stepping to hand catch better suits my current difficulty, but hopefully not for long. I feel great after that session and can honestly not wait to drill again. Ideally, I would like to drill sometime this week, but I do not know if I will have time.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Hallo.
It has been a while since I posted but not a while since I've played!
Today is the second day after spring break in the Penn State universe. I spent the break at my apartment at school with April and my roommate's friend (who is now, subsequently, my friend.) We played board games, went out for dinner, ventured off to the unfamiliar land of Wegman's State College, and had our usual Monopoly and coffee at our favorite Webster's Cafe. I had a five-page company report due yesterday on Google Inc. which haunted me for most of the break (I started it on Thursday and finished it on Saturday.)
During the break, April and I kicked only once but spent a lot of time searching for stitching materials and, for April at least, stitching.
On to today!
I had my usual Tuesday morning session with Ivan and Aidan. Ryan joined us too!
Upon warming up, I tried a trick that I have been dreaming about since I first saw Nate Pipenberg play last year: ducking osis. I set it from toe and hit it first try. Considering it a fluke, I chose not to attempt it again, especially weak side. After that, the session went very well. I hit pixie legover b2b, got closer to weak side smear as well as weak side dimwalk, and gave pixie far whirl my first serious attempt. I am not far off from toe far whirl, so pixie far whirl should follow soon. My flip whirls feel a lot better than they did a month ago (although I still don't hit them consistently.) Finally, (with phoenix in mind) I told Ivan that ducked a pixie (he reacted well) then continued by telling him that it was shoeless (this reaction was less than favorable.) After that, I felt the need to redeem myself, so I set a pixie as hard as I thought I could. It got to about my shoulder. I tried again, with more focus, and the result was nearly perfect. The bag went cleanly around the back of neck and landed next to my weak foot. It was at this moment that I realized I never hit anything other than clipper and toe from a duck, so I will have to work on ducking butter before phoenix can be achieved. Anyway, I still feel as if ducking a trick set is major accomplishment for as I think I will be using the concept in my future game.
I am now off to cater to the whims of undeserving freshman at work. :S

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Hi,
I was going to post about my Sunday session but I had a technical difficulty regarding the innerwebs. Pumped for Jamps etc etc.
Last night, before work, I was part of a little stitching party with April and Ivan. This was fun and now I have my second bag which is ready to be filled. I shall do so tonight. April stitched four prize bags for a bunch of second places during the time it took me to stitch one and head to work. Our relaxing stitch session was in East Halls (where I work) so it was nice to get a visit from the two during my hectic shift. It seems that the freshmen at East don't quite know that there are two nacho nights a week. I work Tuesday and don't get to pick my head up for any part of the three hours before I clean up and go home. EW. Sorry, I'll try to keep the rest of my post on a better subject; rather than bitch about my thankless dining commons job.
I had a fun session with Aidan yesterday morning. He will be in the same qualifying circle as me during Jamps. Aidan may be in lower seat but I know it would be idiotic to let my guard down.
Some highlights from me are as follows:
Clipper to far cloud stall (new)
PLO b2b
My first CLEAN spinning toe BSOS
1 run that I would deem circle worthy for jamps
Oh buns, I think there was a teensy bit more but I deleted the note I had.

Re: FuteBlaug (PSU)
Haii!
There are five days until Jamps and three days until Jim Penske comes to State College! Stoked does not begin to describe my mood for kick right now!! I am especially happy at this moment because I just found out I did a lot better on a big paper than I thought! I got a B, which isn't too too great, but it is relatively great considering I thought I failed. I have to work on two projects, write two papers, and take an exam before Jamps. Once I complete these things, I will be in kick vacation mode... kickation! No. Just kick.
Highlights time!
I had a session today in the squishy squash courts with April, Ryan, and Marc. This session was a breakthrough for me. My last sessions were on Thursday and Friday. Both of which were not great for me. Taking a day off and not doing too much, physically, helped me a lot. Highlights from earlier today:
Osis x4 (new record by 1)
Refraction BSOS (new)
Clipper ss butter BSOS (new)
RIPWALK BS (new on bs)
I am not too worried about my clipper record but I would like to see it exceed 10 soon.
Refraction BSOS has been a goal of mine for a while. My strong is super but my weak side took work. The previous sentence can be applied to clipper ss butter. Hopefully soon, I can hit clipper ss butter > infinity rpt. (dream drill as of now.) Finally, ripwalk has been a goal since day 1. Seeing nearly every open player I know hit ripwalks is way too dope. I want to work on them a lot. Ripwalk rpt, ripwalk > sidewalk rpt, and finally ripwalk > blur > dimwalk rpt are all dream drills I feel like I finally have a chance to hit this year!!!
...weak pixie is still weak.
