so last night I had another session, it was so much fun. I like playing at the middle school more than the high school, becuase all the kids near the middle shcool like to watch me shred, while all the prepy high schoolers have to try to make fun of me b/c of my shorts and not wearing a shirt.

Anyway, here's some highlights:

Mobius > PDX blender bs (almost bsos like three times)

Jani Walker in front of the little kids, it made thier jaw drop cuz they asked if you needed to be fast, and I was like, for certain moves yes (Nick busts a great jani walker)

some good tripless combos (13, 11, 14, and 17 contacts in that order)

hit gyro DLO and Vortex both sides in the same string

Mobius bs all over the place

Worked on my shred 30 a little. Right now I want to get the number of contacts up, and keep the add ratio. I think the best way to do this is to start very strong with like 4 or 5 fearless, then to hit some reset tripless (mostly spinning butterfly>pdx drifter>pdx whirl>pdx drifter>pdx whirl). My favorite part about that combo is that it's fast and all 4 adds, plus I'm almost able to fully recover my breathing after I do that. I also decided to change the middle part to go faster and took out the ducking butterfly to save some time. then at the end I'm gonna throw some more 5's. Gotta step up the shred for all the comps this summer!

Good sesh downtown at the Square two days ago (I didn't post yesterday cuz I only read modified at work )

And again, I'll only post my stuff because I figure if the other shredders want to let you guys know about everything they do, they would post, but I'll still put in some good stuff about them, just for the peeps out there.

Highlights:

Brian- Torque > janiwalker... mid string

Red- doing much better, hitting some fearless stuff again. It's good to see these guys back in action.

On a scale of 1 -10 I think I did a 7 for that sesh.

The sesh downtown was decent, red filmed, and brian was doing pretty good.

I, however, was doing not so hot.

I coulnd't really hit long strings, just under 20 contacts almost everytime. There were a few good highlights though:

Viod > Blurry Drifter bsos
Mobius back to back (FINALLY)
hit smog bsos in the same run that I almost bsos'd haze (that was a fun run, but I dropped on my flip haze)
Hit pdx blender > spinning barrage (great 5>5, but it was a bit out of control...)
I finally hit five fearless (I kept getting to the fifth one and dropping). I don't remember the combo, but I know it had blurry whirl in itand spinning whirl > matador at the end. I was dissapointed by that, becuase i normally can bust 5 fearless like nothing and usually get close to 7, but that day I could hit 4 every time, and the 5th one kept evading me. Oh well, I'll prove my worth on Wednesday, and in Seattle.

I want to get at least 4 every week, but hopefully 5 or 6 in comming weeks. It rained last night so I didn't play, and it's still raining, so I'll try, but no promises...

Had a hardcore sesh at the elementary school again. I was so pissed off (IDK why really, just had a lot of pent up frustration, so I took it and applied it constructivly )

Okay, it's been a long time since I posted... I've been slacking off mostly. So first of all

Santa Cruz

Amazing event. I had some much fun there it was surreal. I got in really late on Friday/Saturday morning (about 3AM because of my phone's difficulties). I was lucky enough to have Emily and Nate come to pick me up at the San Jose airport, and even more fortunate to have great people (like Jeremy and my brother) to lend me a crash space.

I felt I did decent at the jam, not my best, but decent. After reviewing my Shred 30, I felt I did very well (except the last 10 moves, which I’m working on now). The rest of the event was a blast; I enjoyed all the new shredders I got to play with. Dustin was really cool, I got to meet and shred with Big Add Chad, hung out and got to shred a little with Ken the chess and Scrabble master, and as always it was great hanging with Sunny, Daryl, Jim, Lon and the boys from Idaho. And Red made a special guest appearance and even competed in the informal Rippin' Run.

I spent the rest of the 9 days in SC hanging out with my brother and his cool roommates. It was some good times, good times indeed. Then I had two more sessions with the SC crew, one on Thursday, the other on Saturday. I was doing okay again, but still not peek. I loved shredding with the SC crew, Fletcher Funk is so much fun, Jeremy is always fun (even though his Chuck Norris jokes are LAME!) He and I had a fun session where he skooled me in quantums and other stuff that I can't do, but then I retaliated with spinning moves and fairy tap. Then on that Thursday session, we played some interesting footbag games. That was some good times, and then the whole crew went out to a Mexican Restaurant to eat. The Saturday session was fun, mostly me and EJ and another guy I met at my brothers Graduation, we tore it up. I beat my old record of guiltless (was 33, now is 51) and played with my Dryden (sp?) footbag. Then we hit up the carnival place on the boardwalk, which was also fun. I got to hear Emily scream on some of the rides, and laugh on others. Anyway, even though I’ve been back for over a week, I’m still basking in the glow of that week, it was literally one of the best times of my life.

Yesterday’s session

So yesterday I had the first session in a while, partly because of heat induced laziness, and partly because I’ve been kinda burnt out. I’ve been teaching my girlfriend Kaila how to play footbag, and she seems interested, but she gets discouraged sometimes when she can’t do things the first time. I’ve only had 2 sessions with her and she’s getting her kicks down pretty consistently. I worked on my Shred 30 a lot, mostly trying to get the entire thing down, so that I can complete the entire thing. Decent session, hit some good sick 3’s, had lots of fun.

I’ll be posting more, seeing as how I’m trying to train hardcore for the US opens.

Oh yeah, some jackass got a hold of my credit card number, and bought a $400 cell phone. That fucker lives in Wisconsin, and when I got in contact with the vendor, she gave me his address (I didn’t write it down, but I should have) and afterwards I thought about calling them back, getting the address and posting it on every forum ever to get people to send them hate mail, but I decided that someone like that isn’t worth the time or effort. Actually it wasn’t even worth it to write this paragraph. I got it credited back to me, but it’ll take a few weeks, and I’m now in debt $80 (would have been like $50, but those damn overdraft fees)

Yesterday I had a great session downtown with Red. I think Red's finally getting back into footbag, which is awesome, now if only that bastard Jay-Born would be less lazy , but we think Brian’s out of town as well, so right now it's just us.

Seriously though, one thing I really have to give you props on, are your barrages. Whenever somebody I don't know claims to hit hard barrage tricks, I always assume that they are thin or the. So you really surprised me (pleasantly) at SCI when you were cleanly dexing all sorts of hard barrage variants (spinning pdx, etc). Really incredible.

I look forward to seeing you break 200 in Shred30, you definitely are capable of going way over it.

Nice breaking your fearless record. If you hadn't gone for that six in there, I think you could have hit ten. The seven's were nice too. I honestly think you can hit jackpot in the next year or so, you'd be only the second one I believe. Good session.

Haven't posted an actual entry about a session in a while. Today was a good day for footbag in Portland.

First got up made contact with a new sponsor for the US Open and Sole Purpose everafter. Not only did the US Open just get a lot bigger, but it looks like we have a new very generous sponsor for the group now. That was a good start.

Next I headed down to kick it with the net side of Sole Purpose and played a good match, Kenny Shults and myself vs. Chris Seibert and Tuan Vu. We won! I told Kenny I was tired of carrying him. That guy is still in the top five for net in my opinion, unstoppable. I only had one good thing going for me, a wicked left toe serve. Kenny and I also had a private shred session, where I learned pretty fast he has been schooling pretty hard. His first five combos he threw down some nasty stuff. Tons of Spinning Whirl, Whirling Swirls, Spinning Blenders, Double Whirls a ton of Inspins. I finally asked him what exactly the Big Apple Sauce was, and he explained it. Jokingly, I told him to illustrate it. On his second try he nailed it into a combo. First time I've ever seen it in my face. Blew me away. I think it is actually an eight add move, a spin (1), a paradox dex (2), a symposium dex (2), and an osis catch (3). 1+2+2+3=8 adds. Pretty sweet.

He also told me a great story. Before I showed up and they were playing net, some old hippy walked up and complemented Kenny. He was talking about the old days of footbag in Portland. As he and Kenny conversated, he dropped a few old school names, then proceeded to talk about the time he got to watch the great footbag player Kenny Shults perform. The guy had no idea who he was talking to. Kenny said he proceeded to tell the guy he had heard of "this Kenny Shults" as well. Later Kenny told me it was kinda surreal, but cool too. The other net players were giving him grief about it.

After that, I went down to meet the other half of the Sole Purpose group to do some shred and demo work downtown. At Pioneer Square in downtown Portland, there are usually 3-5 circles almost always going on in the daytime, and sometimes a few at night. Nick, Brian, Noah, and Chris were shredding already. Noah and Brian played super strong. Nick hit his average really hard combo links, I think a few new ones were Void to Blurage, Tomahawk to Bedwetter, Pixie Diving Butterfly to Symposium Whirling Swirl, and Mobius to Sumo to name a few. Plus one outrageous combo that I could hardly comprehend, much less repeat. I kicked alright for half ass play. Hit left blurriest swirl for the first time in a while, and just missed it on my right.

Later that night while heading back from a party with a lady friend, we were standing at the bus station and some guy comes up to me and starts flippin' out, saying "hey, you're that hacky sack guy from downtown!" and so on. Then a few people at the bus station demanded a demonstration. I was flattered, but luckily the bus came and we had to go. Portland is one of the few places I have lived where you get the rockstar treatment for being good at footbag. Nick's starting to learn the fame of footbag in Portland, it's a pretty supportive community. The US Open is going to be pretty sweet. Tomorrow we are kicking for Kenny and Tuan downtown on the waterfront. Should be fun!

Had three seessions in two days (very fun, but very painfull) and here's the low down:

Saturday Afternoon:

People: Noah, Red, Brian, Crisco, Me

Shred: Nothing too huge, kept trying to stay in the shade. I liked that we had a crowd watching us, it gave me some insperation. I hit a long string (like 35+) and that was nice, it had lots of good 4's and some 5's too. Red is getting a lot better and Noah is still able to shred it up. Brian is still a machine, as always.

Saturday Evening:

People: Clayton, Me

Shred: A fun session, I hit lots of 20+ contact guiltless strings. I love shredding with clayton becuase I don't have to shred big, just fun and stylie. He was doing really well, hitting some good combos, working his fridged osis sets (he doesn't even have to trun to get a flat osis, it's f'in crazy)

Sunday:

People: Kenny, Clayton, Red, Brian, Me

Shred: All I can say is WOW! Kenny is the man, he is the living embodiment of footbag (net and freestyle!). He was hitting huge combos with crazy links and some really long strings. I remember one string was like spinning whirl - whirling swirl - spinning whilr - scorpion's tail - DDD.

I also hit some good combos. I got a new 6 5's in a row: matador - blurry whirl - fog - alpine fiary beater - P.S. whirl - mobius. I also hit Montage mid string, that was fun mostly because I was doing a bunch of random 3 adds, and then BAM! Montage... to merkon. I also footed Fusing Butterfly to a dragon, and had a god 15+ contact string with lots of dragon moves in it (spitfire bsos, firefly bsos, whirling dragon, and symp whirling dragon, and I think a dragon osis) I also cam the closest I've ever gotten to fairy same side flurry. Fun times, great sesh, great people.
