Day 4 of sickness
Only a sore throat and light-headedness. Decommisioned for at least this coming week. Damn.
Woke up around 1 pm, did chemistry homework in preparation for tuesday's test, then went to my chemistry study group, then did the chemistry practice test. Then it was 8 pm.
7 hours of chemistry? Hell yeah. That's how I roll.

Long day, but relatively easy. My spanish teacher seems obsessed with making me participate in class. Despite the fact that 4 of the other 12 people also didn't say anything today, she kinda prodded me to talk. She's done that a lot and it makes me more determined NOT to talk cause it's annoying. Of course, I do try to participate, but sometimes there's just not anything you want to say. 'Nuff said.
Still sick, but now it's only a sore throat, so if I can get some sleep (more on that later), I'll be kicking by the weekend. Or at least, I damn well better be.
The only really stressful thing for me thus far in college has not been course load, social constraints, homesickness, etc., but instead the sleeping arrangement I have. One of my roommates says he doesn't need much sleep, which is a lie. He will get like 5 or 6 hours of sleep monday through friday, be grumpy and bitchy all week, and then sleep like a dog through the weekend or be incapacitated at random times in naps. The other roommate, although he has classes at 9 am, just fucking skips them. He had class today from 9 am to 1 pm, and nothing after. He got up at 1 pm. Why the hell would you get up RIGHT WHEN YOUR CLASSES END? Jeisus. And because he gets up so late, he doesn't get anything done early and so he does homework till like 4 am, which means I can't get to sleep because he's in the room studying and typing. And since I do go to class at 9, that means that I don't get the sleep I need.
So the point is that tonight there's gonna be a "discussion" in which one of two things is gonna happen:
1) they're gonna agree to change so that I can get my god damn sleep or
2) all hell will break loose
^_^
Oh, and I've been listening to a lot of Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, and The Killers lately. Good shred music, all of it.

Anyways, onto the real 'meat' of the post, of which there is little, I'm just reporting that I am on the home-stretch of my infirmity (i.e. sickness), and have just about no sickness or anything. I might kick tomorrow, but the chances aren't very high. I won't kick Thursday for sure, because with fencing already in the mix, I think it would be too much. And then Friday I have dinner at my math professor's house, so it would be hard to fit in Friday. Although... it would be pretty cool to try out the squash courts at like 10 pm on a Friday night. There'd be no one there and it would seriously feel like going to the lab, as they say. The point being, I'm doing well but don't want to jump back into the swing again right away.
BUT I'VE FOUND SOME DAMN GOOD SHRED MUSIC. Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails and Kanye West. Uhhh it kills me to listen to this stuff I'd so love to rock my socks to, and can't.
Oh, and finally, I have been reflecting on what I've been reading in DocJ's blog. Namely, he has massive consistency. So I think it would be wise to try to bump up my consistency (as I have been trying to do by just doing runs), but I'm gonna take a difference approach for like the 15th different approach. I want to spend whole sessions just doing long runs, even if they are mostly 2 adds. Clipper > ss bfly > bubba > mirage > pickup > op bfly > ss pickup > illusion > etc. I'll alternate these sessions with ones where I continue what I have been doing, which is working on moves I want to work on and concepts I'd like to incorporate. It should provide a good balance, although I don't yet know if I'll do one one day and the other the next (e. g. basics on Tuesday, then the normal stuff on Wednesday), or maybe do the basics on a specified set of days (e. g. Tuesdays and Fridays). So those are the thoughts of the day. I can't wait to kick again, though I'll probably suck again (relative to where I was). Guess that first session will be a basics.

No footbag again for perhaps the last day. I still have that lingering cough, but it's to the point that I think I could exercise vigorously without increasing it or putting myself at risk for greater sickness. However, I had fencing today, and don't want to overexert myself at once (fencing does make you sweat, in case you didn't know). So tomorrow I am hoping to get some footbag in late at night. I have dinner with my math teacher around like 6, so footbag will probably be later... maybe 9ish. I checked out the racquetball courts after fencing and just did some air shred and I think I like the surface. I can't wait to get back into footbag. It's like finally remeeting an old friend. 9 pm shred on a friday night. Hell yeah. Sounds like fun to me.

I will try to translate this. Although we havent learn future tense, i will attempt it.
You will want to (debas=owe?) practice your spansih. For example=Shit=mierda, and junk=chatarra (without the first 'r') But those are very uncommon words, you get props for knowing them? Like you probably know, my spanish isnt perfect either, only (I?) studied it for more years.
The reason i spelled mierda and chatarra wrong is because i only heard them from a spanish exchanged student last year, and i forgot how they were pronounced
Spanish is so much easier than english.
Espanol es mas facil, especialmente cuando comparó (past tense) a ingles

Quizás debas practicar su español. = Perhaps you should study your spanish. 'Quizás' is a subjunctive verb that means 'perhaps', resulting in deber (to should) being subjunctive.
...solo he estudiádolo más años = only I have studied it more years. 'He estudiado' is the present perfect form, using the auxiliary verb 'haber' along with a past participle.
So anyways, as far as today. I went and played footbag today... sorta. It was right after I had eaten dinner at my math professor's house, so I was very much filled with bread and cake, and as a result felt pretty bloated. I had to kick right away though, because the athletic complex closes at 10 on weekdays (9 pm on weekends), so I went over there right away. Now, I could chalk my bad performance up to being bloated, or the fact that the racquetball court surface (essentially hardwood) is really slippery, whereas I'm used to playing on a very rough concrete, or I could chalk it up to the fact that I haven't played in 10 days. That's probably the best out of them, though. The point is, even though all I managed to crap out in about 35 minutes was a 10-move tiltless run, I probably wouldn't have been able to get more than 15 on my own surface, when healthy and fit.
Therefore, that's what I'm gonna work on (as previously noted). My new goal is to have a run of 30+ tiltless by the end of the month, and to improve my run length to around 10 moves a run, even if they are tiltless. I may not make my goal, but at least I'll know that I'll be improving run length-- which is what I desperately need.
-butterfly > bubba > pickup > butterfly > bubba > pickup drop (dammit)
-10 tiltless
-8 tiltless starting from blur
Everything was hard today and I didn't feel that great. I'm hoping by stopping after 35 minutes I won't put myself in a position to get sick again. Tomorrow I'll go for an hour.

-15 tiltless starting from 4 consecutive flip mirages
-15 tiltless almost all genuine, with about half being 3 adds
-pickup back to back-- I suck at pickups and really need to school them
-far pickup BSOS in an 8+ tiltless
-mirage > pickup > toe whirl BS
-illusion > pickup > repeat
-ducking clipper > paradox mirage > osis > op clipper > butterfly > ducking clipper > paradox mirage > osis > run (with maybe 5 more moves I can't remember)
I need to work on in-to-out ATWs and pickups.
I'm getting more used to the racquetball courts, though they're still somewhat uncomfortable for me. The surface isn't a big issue, but I still suck (whether from not playing for a while or just that I suck period and now realize it, I'm not sure). However, I want to be able to hit 10+ tiltless on command before I really focus on getting a solid guiltless, though it feels really dumb to be talking about hitting mirages and stuff. Really though-- it shouldn't.
In reference, this thread discusses my same feelings and thoughts on the matter. While it may feel a bit lame to work on moves you know you can hit 10/10 times alone, if you can't hit them for crap in strings, you need to practice them more. So yeah, it's gonna be a drilltastic winter.
In other news, yet another crush to spice things up. I think because I'm a goal-oriented person (as most footbaggers are), I always like to have some hard-to-reach goal in mind and, unfortunately it would seem, that includes women. Oh well, at least I am starting to understand my human nature, even if I submit to it.

-9 tiltless from legover > pickup > butterfly > far pickup
-mirage > ss mirage > repeat-- hella fun
-blur > butterfly > spinning osis-- just to make sure I can still do some of that stuff
-14 tiltless with pickup > pickup
-paradox mirage > op clipper > paradox illusion-- unplanned pdx illusion (where'd it come from? don't know)
-10 tiltless
-9 contacts of mirage > legover > repeat
-9 contacts of illusion > pickup > repeat-- weird they are both the same; unplanned, I assure you
-10 tiltless with ducking clipper and far pickup
-13 tiltless
-ss mirage ending on a rooted toe-- tried once cause of Matt Cross's recent little video on here
-12 tiltless
-14 tiltless to end the session
So even though I feel a bit sad just focusing on improving tiltless and not learning new things, I am realizing more and more that there's a lot I need to work on improving. I had never really focused on pickups or illusions, or same side anything. There's enough in tiltless to keep me well entertained for a long time. I want to be able to have runs in excess of 15 moves on average before I worry about really getting into the guiltless stuff.
And also, working on runs really is a lot more fun than just trying to hit hard moves. Or at least that's how it seems at the moment.

No footbag; Mondays blow. Session with Tony at 1:30 pm at the racquetball courts planned tomorrow. Should be a lot of fun.
Today I ran 3 miles for the first time since I was sick. It was really nice. However, I didn't do my math homework, nor my physics, nor my spanish, nor really study for my chem lab exam Wednesday. Weeeeee. Got to do that from 11 pm to 1 pm.
Still have a lot of it to do tomorrow, so it's gonna be work study > class > footbag > homework hell.
Still, I'd have to say life is definately good.

I kicked with Tony today as previously mentioned. It was AWESOME.
Unfortunately, as I had assumed, he couldn't get into the AC because he hadn't paid to use it. As a night student, he also has to pay twice as much (so $80 for a year). I guess he doesn't have that kind of money at the moment, so we decided to kick outside the AC since it was a nice day and the surface is actually pretty good. It's like halfway between the rough concrete of Eliot and the smooth hardwood of the racquetball courts, so I felt really in my element. What else is cool is that it's right outside a heavily frequented area, so there was tons of exposure.
I could tell right away that working my tiltless had really helped, even given that it was only 3 days. My runs were all longer and more toe based (since most 2 adds are from toe). It feels a lot cooler to do 10+ 2-add+ than 5+ 3-add+. What else rocked was that I decided to play in my hat today, instead of my usual headband. It was a minor change, but it felt really exciting and new.
Sorry, but I didn't write down anything I hit. I know I had a lot of BSOS runs, including one with paradox illusion BSOS, one with pickup B2B + far pickup BSOS. Overall, I'm very happy with the direction my game is going.
In non-footbag-related news, I am trying to take my time in asking out that girl I mentioned a couple posts back. The truth is that I really don't know her, and am again basing my choices on appearance. I'd much rather get to know her as a friend with the stipulation that it could be more, than to rush into a relationship and find out that it's not what I want. With that in mind, I'm going to wait until Thursday to talk to her, despite the fact that it's hard for me to keep focused when I have plans I'm formulating. As I said, she's in my fencing so I'm gonna try to just see if we could do something sometime so I can get to know her. Who knows? Perhaps she'll say, "hell no" and that'll be that. At least it won't be a straight-up date ask-out, but more of a "I'd like to get to know you" thing.
Along similar lines, I was really happy today when one of the girls on my floor confided in me her guy problems. I felt like I could offer her good advice and a different perspective, and was very flattered she trusted me enough to divulge that information.
Chem lab test tomorrow and weekly math homework that has to be done. I hope I can get some footbag in at the racquetball courts after the chem test, but I can't be sure. We'll see. Otherwise I'll have to do it before my fencing on Thursday, which might be a drag.
But on the other hand, after my session with Tony today (around 2 hours), MY LEGS ARE KILLING ME. I guess I haven't kicked this hard in a while. I can't remember my legs actually being sore and achy in a long time.
And thanks for still reading my blog Brian. Your comments are always insightful or funny... or asinine, but they always remind me of you and that's a good thing. A smile to brighten my day or what have you.
Keeping you all informed,
Zach

So from yesterday's session (10/19 W), we have
-far pickup (strong) > osis > far pickup (flip) midrun-- midrun, m'f'ers!
-16 tiltless run from which I can remember nothing, since it was yesterday :/
-long flowy run with paradox whirl > drifter midrun accompanied by 5+ moves before and after
-pickup > ss mirage > op butterfly > sidewalk BS
-gyro mirage (flip) > some moves > drifter > osis > drifter-- my flip gyro mirages BLOW
-far pickup > op osis > repeat x 3 or 4-- even as I finished I couldn't remember where I started, but I know it was at least 3 times through
-spinning practice-- 20 flipside spinning clippers, 5 strongside spinning clippers, 5 strongside spinning oses
-13 tiltless with lots of guiltless (that I also can't remember)
-11 tiltless to sorta end session-- I was really tired
-vortex strongside first try to really end session
My flip diving and flip spinning still suck, so I have to work on improving those, and I'd like to incorporate gyro mirages and diving clippers into my runs.
Also, today was day 2 with playing in a hat. It was lots of fun.
I'd say if you ever get bored with footbag or frustrated or something, try different headgear-- really adds a new element for some reason.
So the big news is that today I am planning on trying to sorta ask out that girl that I have a crush on-- we'll see how that goes.
And it's fall break, so like half the campus will be gone friday through sunday and there's no class friday. I don't have much homework and nothing planned, so I just hope I don't get depressed and feel alone. Perhaps footbag twice a day? How sad....

It didn't go, to be succinct. She wasn't at fencing because I think she went home for Fall Break. Heh, irony. So it's probably not a bad thing though, since it'll make me think about the situation more and come to terms better. The analogy that keeps popping into my head is that of what I was a child, and I wanted a toy really badly. My parents would tell me to wait a week or two and see if I still wanted it. What usually happened is I'd realize that I didn't want the toy that badly after all-- it wasn't the toy that I was after, it was the fact that I didn't have it that drove me so insane. So anyways, in some way, I think waiting until next Thursday's fencing will be a good thing.Yesterday SandWraith wrote: So the big news is that today I am planning on trying to sorta ask out that girl that I have a crush on-- we'll see how that goes.
And on the line of fencing, I got beat today for the first time. I figured out why too: everyone I've beaten so far has been somewhat aggressive, and so I can use that to my advantage. The person I fought today would just sit there and wait, and eventually force me to attack (or my lack of patience would, anyways). So I have to work on the patience thing, and hopefully that'll help.
No footbag today (10/20), because after fencing my throat began to hurt. I didn't want to push myself hard today and suffer for it for the next 3. The hope is that with lots of rest, I'll be able to kick hard Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We'll see.
Oh, and I just got back from playing Texas ping pong. I actually went down with 4 of the guys from my floor to play some table tennis (of which I won every match, surprisingly; my skills from last year's gym didn't atrophy!), and eventually we decided to play this game where you use your hands to keep the ping pong on the table. It doesn't matter how many times it hits on a side, or if it hits the net, so long as the ping pong doesn't hit the ground. If it does, you have to turn around (no shirts allowed) and the last person to touch it from the other team gets to throw the ping pong as hard as possible across the table at you. It really worked my sad excuse for a throw, although I'd say I got pretty owned:

The people remaining on our floor went to House of India today for a lunch buffet. It was really good. They had this bread that you dipped in this sauce... amazing. And there was this chicken and rice... delicious. Oh! And for dessert, there was this thing made from rice in milk with cocunut... orgasmic.
It was a good lunch.
Footbag, on the other hand, wasn't so good. I went to the courts only an hour after eating a ton, because the AC (athletic complex) was closing early on Friday since it's Fall Break, and I wanted to get in there in time. As a result, I was really full and pretty tired. Also, my pen didn't work so I couldn't write down anything I hit, which isn't altogether bad cause I didn't hit much. I worked on spinning clippers and diving clippers a bit, because dexing just wasn't happening. After a little over an hour I left, defeated.
I also left cause Alex (a guy) and I were gonna go see "The Fog" at the theater. It was an ok movie, but the plot really didn't make a lot of sense. After getting back, I played table tennis with Steve for at least 3 hours. He's pretty darn good or at least he's good enough to keep me challenged, so it was good practice. At the end I could tell I had improved. I'm hoping to keep playing against good people so I will rule at table tennis someday.

Didn't play Saturday-- it was a very lazy day (i.e. Half-Life 2 and a very large buffet meal). Did play today though, and hit:
-mirage > butterfly > paradox mirage > repeat x 3 (13 contacts)
-illusion > pickup > toe whirl BS
-10 flipside spinning clippers
-5 strongside spinning ducking clippers-- moderately easy strongside; it's pathetic that I can do spinning ducking clippers strongside like 1 out of 3 times, but flipside spinning clippers are probably 1 out of 6 times
-infinity > sidewalk > infinity > sidewalk-- should have been easier than it was
-11 tiltless, then 12 tiltless with clipper > ss butterfly BSOS
-far pickup BSOS in a 10+
-illusion > butterfly > bubba > butterfly > paradox illusion BS
-diving clipper x 5 strongside, diving clipper x 3 flipside-- took me forever to get 3 consecutive flipside = needs practice
Yesterday I just sat around. I didn't feel like doing anything, so I didn't.
On a different note, I think I'm getting a lot better at being patient and letting life come to me, but it could just be the moment. Hope not.

Mondays = no footbag. Went running, though it was like 40 degrees Fahrenheit (hope I don't get sick). School is back in to its old hijinks, so that should keep me comfortably (?!) busy.
Only thing of note is that I still haven't talked to that girl. I'm hoping to eventually, but I'm torn between just going up to her room and striking up a conversation and waiting out a more natural, casual situation. Patience is so hard, but I think going up to her room would be perhaps a bit too weird. Ahhhh it's nice to see I'm focusing on the mother eff'ing important things like my classes.
...I'm fucking retarded...
