there he is again?!? I'm being stalked by a stranger.. Mods... HELP
(seriously drew, don't be a putz, come shred)
--
shredded with the other drew the other day. you know, drew martin the one that isn't too cool for school etc. anyways, that's always really fun. i was working just on new stuff and he eventually was like "ummm, are you going to play instead of drop all night ever?". ha ha. so, I tried to just play at that point. too funny.
a couple solo sessions and then kicking with brian last night. still working on new stuff, but am happy to report that a lot of the stuff is either being hit or getting much closer now. progress. yeah.
some stuff is just weakside versions of what I can do on the other side already, and other stuff is brand new to me. some brand new stuff is totally new (like quantum and atomic which I have never done) and other stuff is just concept building (like combining pixie and whirl).
my highlights are embarassing after reading kevin's blog just now, so I'll spare you the boredom.
---
the woodshop in my barn is being insulated (by me of course). so that's been a fun project. I should have first furniture produced by end of January. I might have told you that already.

cool nick, let me know about the weekend. Saturday morning or near lunch time is definitely better for me since I coach soccer on Sunday and will be tired afterwards.

kicked/lifted/jogged last night. highlights:
- many good midrun weakside basics such as drifter, DLO, spin clip
- several pixie swirls on strongside. I think that's a first.
- spinning pickup bsos
- paradon > pdx mirage > paradon... repeat to 3 paradons on both sides
- I hit 5 quantum ss mirages (not in a row). I think that's the first time I hit that.
- dyno b2b
- clipper > sole stall > clipper
- weakside sole stall > stumble > laugh > curse nick
- some atomic mirages where I did a nice job of moving my legs around the bag while my upper body stayed nice and still (instead of my entire body jumping into the air... if that makes sense). Made it much easier to do it this "shift of momentum" style instead of jump hard style.

kicked last night while watching the phillies fail again. damn it, i thought this was a world series year, but they're playing awful all of the sudden. oh well.
highlights:
spinning pickup > paradon
ducking osis > torque
pixie legover > fairy mirage
pixie ss pickup > pixie legover > repeat
Also, I switched up my warmup pile to include a different set of tricks. kick/lift/jog tonight.

played again last night, lifted.. no jogging because i got a late start and phillies were on (and they won for a change of pace).
it was a pretty lack luster practice overall.. i hate gyro DLO still. I also will always hate atomic. I don't think it's possible for me to ever learn that muther effing piece of crap damn set. Damn it. grrr. Hit toe blur on my strong side which was cool. did a couple strings at the end and was very happy to see that my mix of tricks was nicely different than usual.. which, of course, is the whole stupid point behind my practice style lately (to learn more new tricks).

kicked with Nick Saturday night. Fun session. I hit a very nice pixie swirl, and generally worked through my pile of tricks pretty well. Stuff that was once in 20 tries, is closer to once in 3-5 tries now. And when I was doing runs rather than single tricks, my selection/variety is different than before. So, overall, I feel like the recent practice method is working.

I'm barn obsessed right now, and therefore temporarily uninterested in footbag. I will force myself to play tonight even though I REALLY want to finish what I've been working on in the shop. The barn is getting to be so cool btw. It will be a pleasure to make furniture in there. Nicely lit, well insulated, heated, lots of windows, rustic charm, intelligent workflow between equipment. I just can barely wait.

Brian came over to shred last night, as did Zachatree and his lady friend.
Brian began the night by telling me I looked heavy and slow which was really good for my insecurities, and especially so since people at work have been commenting that I look fitter lately (and since I've been working my ass off). So that was sweet. I don't pay him much mind, but honestly, I think I'll dodge his future attempts to come kick with me as it is almost always a negative experience in one way or another.
On the other end of the spectrum, I continue to enjoy Zach's company (and lady friend... Bailey I think... she was very nice too). Funny and friendly, and totally obsessed with improving at footbag. He takes coaching very well and has probably about doubled in skill since I saw him last. He will be very very good if he continues to play hard and listen to advice. In fact, I would honestly say that he's pretty much caught up to my skill level in many ways, and surpassed in others. Within 6 months, I predict he'll be coaching me more than vice versa.
I worry about him and Nick becoming competitive with each other though. They both so badly want to be the "up and comer". I remember that stage, and it can be toxic. Luckily they have totally different styles and interests in the sport, so they can coexist and push each other. Because Nick is going to be really sick too. Ahhh, so nice to be passing the torch (again) in this area.
Anyways, two consecutive nights of hardcore barn building did leave me fairly out of practice and dead legged. In other words, I played pretty poorly. Boring strings, none of my new stuff that I've been working on. But whatever, it was fun anyways. Hopefully Zach will be coming over weekly from now on. We're thinking Wednesday nights would work.
