CAUTION: The following post contains discussions about Net and My Little Ponies.
If you want to read about Freestyle, you can check back here on Sunday. :-)

I played net at the middle school both yesterday and today.

Yesterday: Sage, EJ, Angel, Fletch and Emily. I think I played one game with each person, but I'm not positive.

Today: Sage wasn't able to make it so it was just the four of us.

I was going to write about the session but I'm not really sure what to say about a net session. I guess people don't write about who won since it's just casual play. I played with each person at least once, and I think I played a total of 7 or 8 games. My serve has gotten more consistent in general, but the bad ones are still SO bad. When returning serves I felt a good difference when I stepped a little farther from the bag instead of having my outside kick being way too close to my body. AJ told me to do that recently and I understood but didn't really feel it yet. My outside kicks sucked today.

A few weeks ago I did not want to play with people, I just wanted to power with one person. I don't know why that changed, but I'm glad because the last few days were really fun. But now I have to power with someone and get better at kicks. ...Then practice spikes because I've lost what little ability I had. :-P

Fletch and I took a trip to Humboldt over the 4th of July weekend. I put some pictures _here_ on my Flickr account. The pics are from our hike around Fern Canyon, where they did some filming for Jurassic Park 2. It did look like a place where dinosaurs would roam.

Now we come to what I hope you all take away from this blog post:
Night of the Ponies

Check out the 2006 Pony Budget.

And he's not joking, it's completely true! In case you don't believe it, here's the link to The 50 Most Beautiful. Check it out. Hosts, evening wear, bikinis...

WOW

Edit: Typo.

Hey you!

Sounds good with all the net-kicking!!!

The Jurrasic Park movie.. did you by accident walk onto that set too??? In that case, then in the coming year you'll be in a lot of movies... one filmed on the pier at Santa Monica, LA... looking totally out of place with your Danish friend!

I've sucked at keeping a blog.. maybe that's because I haven't played much lately. Besides the festival, I haven't really gotten around to it. Maybe I should get started. It's just that... well.. for 1 the weather in Denmark sucks. And second of all, my favourite coach, hang-out, discussion, good-time partner is too far away.. in sunny cali!!

Hey Anne! I need to request that you stop saying such nice things. It's going to make me spoiled, and no one here will want to deal with me having an even bigger head. :D

Don't worry, I can still inspire you to play from all the way over here:
I bet you can't hit crispy torque>pdx mirage. (to dimwalk?)

See, doesn't that make you want to go prove me wrong?

Yesterday EJ, Fletch and I went to Steve's place. It was pretty much the normal crowd (Steve, Abram, Peter, Jeff, Alex, Dustin, and someone else whose name escapes me) plus Adrienne Dukes from Maryland.

The session was fine but could have been very frustrating if I had let myself get in that mindset.

After the session of course there was pizza, and of course it was delicious. :-)

This post is too boring. To spice it up a little, here is a painting I saw recently in a Frida Kahlo exhibit.

Today I played net at the park. Didn't do well, and didn't serve in as much as I would have liked to, but I had fun. I got to play with Alexi against Sage and Angel right before leaving.

A new SC freestyle player contacted me a few days ago and I invited him out today and for a session. It turns out that I've met Jonathan Demers before at Stanford, where he learned to kick. Anyway, he, Fletch and I are going to have a session on maybe Tuesday of this week. As soon as school starts up again Dustin and now Abram are going to be on campus, so I'm hoping to attend a session at least 2 times a week again. Until I get sick of it again.:oops::|

It was great seeing you Saturday! Thanks for kicking my butt in your boot camp :)

Frida Kahlo can spice anything up. Did you see the exhibit in San Fran?

Ha, nice pictures both of you. :-)

I’ve been playing a little more net. I should have gotten better shoes. I should practice more.

On Sunday Jonathan Demers (originally from Stanford), Fletch and I met up and freestyled for about 45 minutes before net. I’m not really working on anything except staying okay enough to not die when I try to freestyle with Dustin and Abram(!)when school starts. I’d like to freestyle before net again this Sunday because once I started playing net my legs felt really good. Unfortunately I developed a bruise/bump on the inside of my right ankle from the bag hitting it hard a few times. I haven’t hit the bag with my ankle like that for months and months. :? Stupid. It's almost all the way better now.

A few days ago Fletch and I were going to power. He kicked against the wall them we played two games of 2-square with a net bag. I won the first game and he won the second. I wanted a tiebreaker game but I think he was too intimidated. … Or maybe we were both too tired of running after the bag when it was kicked the wrong way. Seriously annoying. We powered for a while after that.

Yesterday we both wall-kicked. I was doing horribly (which explains to you why I don’t like kicking against the wall…) but got better and when trying to beat 9 contacts, I made it to 17. When Fletch and I were powering I think we only got 9 contacts tops, but we did that a bunch of times.

Last week a friend took me kayaking in Monterey. It was AMAZING. Not only was it fun to be on the nice long waves, but I saw sea lions on the rocks I paddled by, seals in the water (and one in the water about 6 feet from my kayak), and pelicans flying high above me and sometimes just above the water. And dolphins!! There was a pod swimming around and jumping out of the water, but a while later they were gone. A mother and baby remained; jumping out of the water like it was going out of style. My friend said he had never seen such active dolphins. He is a free diver and had his gear with him so he went swimming in the water and the dolphins swam around him. We sat in the area they were swimming in for a long time. He brought a picnic so we ate really nice cheese and crackers and had something to drink. At one point the mother and baby jumped out of the water about 4 feet from my kayak. :-D Every time a glass-bottom boat came by with tourists the dolphins jumped around next to the boat so everyone got a great show.

This week I realized that I have found my soul mate. Anyone who will eat 3-day-old leftover lasagna and drink a bottle of Champaign with me on a random Monday night is a winner in my book.

Excuse me?!? An award winning alpaca should NEVER be confused with a llama.

Now you will never make that mistake again.

That question cannot be answered because there was no llama in that pic.

Haha, nice pics you two. CAMILLE, I think my sister had that pony.

I was on the phone with Tim while I was on my way to net last Sunday. I made the mistake of telling him that I was on my way to net... it's good to have someone in my life again who will properly reprimand me for playing net. :-D I played real footbag for like 10 minutes with Jon before playing net.

I also had a mini solo session a few days ago. I hit blender for the first time. Don't get the impression that I'm getting better; I just learned a new trick that I'll have to relearn once a month when I play.

This page was so full of awesome pictures that I've decided to continue the trend:

Story:

Thursday I hung out with and had dinner with Mike Hansen who was only in the area for a short time. Then I stayed at Ahren's. In the morning we walked and drove all over and ended up at Golden Gate Park.

We saw a cardboard bee hive:

Later I met up with a fellow Illinoisan who is actually Amish.

We ate dinner and

Mike Hansen joined us for some fun times walking around.

We walked the (city) blocks in a snake pattern, like this:

when we came upon an ATM. Note the duct tape on the side.

Being with fellow Midwesterners made us all really happy

which caused a spontaneous dance party.

Yeah, these guys can be a little weird sometimes.

Afterward all that fun, I drove back to beautiful Santa Cruz.

The End

EDIT: I forgot... Ahren showed me a copy of the video intros for players from Worlds 2002. Oh man...... If you were there, you probably remember what I'm talking about.

AND this will be the third week in a row I will bike to and from work every other day. which sounds more impressive than it is because I'm only getting 3 days a week right now...
4 miles each way on a 10 speed that only has 5 working gears. Woo!

haha, You nut! It's MY my little pony, not Age's!!

Nice pics. Ahren Gerhman eh? I'm so super jealous, he's one of my inspirations.

You live in such an awesome place. I mean, I do too, but mine is only awesome for less than half the year. =\

Props on blender...even if you don't think it's deserving of props. :P

Haha, I read your post and was like, "Yeah, My Little Pony. Oooooooh, whoops!" I had just read a PM from Adrienne. You know, my poor old mind just isn't what it used to be, but don't worry, I fixed it extra well. Go look, and just think about the time I must have taken to make your name look so nice and realize that that's how much I like you. Unless you're a jerk in person, in which case you never meant anything to me.

 :!:

Wow, thanks! haha. It's so pretty!

haha.

Well, I don't think I'm a jerk, by any means. I can be a bitch for sure, but only when it's warranted. I think I'm pretty nice. It'd be cool if someone who has met me could verify for you though haha.

I like you too, despite not actually knowing you in the real world. But I have a feeling we'd get along great. Most of the time we seem to be on the same page, or at least in the same book... though I guess nowadays I should say "the same website".

Don't worry about your "poor old mind", I think it's only about a year older than mine-- You're 24 right?

And.. I wasn't there. I only went to Worlds '04.

Now that I think about it, I guess I can't be too too jealous, cuz I just spent the weekend with Jon Schneider! :D The east coast is pretty happenin', too. :)

Oh no, you can always feel free to be jealous of me.

I meant the 2002 thing to be a continuation of the first post, it wasn't directed at you, soory (though I said that in a Canadian accent just for you).

I remember you from Worlds 04. I think you had a pot leaf necklace on, but I don't think we really interacted.
