Thanks Chris.
I still have to get my runs and stamina back. Well, actually, on good days, I feel like I have the stamina, I just drop for silly reasons all the time. I think I have to learn to bail more to up my string length and then slowly increase the density, but I feel like that's kind of cheap and boring most of the time, so I struggle with it... Today was a good example. I wanted to just do runs. Maybe the weather and my body held me back today. It was cold and rainy. I kept changing bags because my usual bag looked like the water on the ground would really end its life too soon. Then an old bag of my own was too stretched and big, and then the next was unused, too small and rolly.. and the kind of cold and wetness really contributed to my struggle. Frustrating. I should just take a few days off and then go all out for my video before I leave Toronto (in a week and a half!)
I had a few okay runs around 17-20-ish contacts, pretty dense, but I'm kind of sick of my moves too if I'm not doing harder stuff. Or maybe the rolly bag limited my clipper game? I did a lot of toe shuffle. I don't know. That's my rant, I guess.
I guess, three hacky things of note:
1) I'm glad that Adam Dexter is playing again, although it's too bad I'm leaving and we won't get a chance to shred.
2) I appreciated Ken's pi donation for Mark M
3) I had a hankering to stitch a new bag (which coincides nicely with the coming death of my current one), so cut out panels last night and stitched the first flower before my session just now. It should be fun. I'm really a perfectionist, though, so if it doesn't look super pretty in all the stitches, I'll be super hard on myself. I also have a half-finished amaretta hyrbrid that I never finished that I'll finish up after a test bag or two. I haven't stitched in 3 years, and not for a year-ish or so before that I think. The last bag that I made was for Allan Haggett who did me a really kind favour a few days after my little brother passed away almost 3 years ago. That was a good one too, and he seemed to get a lot of play out of it. He'd posted a picture of when he first got it, and then a photo, like, a year later, or later, covered in patching tape and stuff
After going through my old stitching stuff, I was wondering how other people found my bags -- if they fell apart or popped stitches or anything... I never got too much feedback aside from initial impressions. I know Byrin loved them, Jim really liked his, and I think Ken had both good and bad things to say... It's been a while.. I also had a die-hard in Germany, Julien Zentner, who really liked them, but I never even met him, or even know who he is. I think he ordered 3 or 4 over the course of my stitching "career".
I've been drawing a lot, but lost a lot of my skill in that too from not doing it for a year due to school
Frustrating. Long, boring post. I should help my girlfriend make dinner...
EDIT: Found the pictures he took of that bag:

Oh yeah, also, a la Tony Whitney, workout streak: 10 days

Whelp.
I just tried to do a legover in the shower and kicked the soap holder thing out of the wall, with chunks of tile and adhesive... We're renting this house and moving out in a week. I guess I have to learn how to tile a shower now. I didn't land the legover, but it was preceded by ATW-out > ATW-in.

I finally filmed my U of T video today. It was pretty good. I had a number of good runs. Though, maybe one of the best had me on a slanted surface, and I totally ended up behind the camera for a middle chunk of it... Sucky. The scenery I had chosen beforehand was great, and it was a super nice day. Almost every single location, if not every single one, actually, found other people (tourists/photographers) taking pictures in the exact same places, so that's reassuring for my location selection. I hit a number of things that I wanted to, and one big trick that I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do or not, despite having done it a few times before both sides.
I had a bunch of combos and tricks written out to give me some kind of structure, but most of it turned out to be too tough, mostly because I was doing a ton of tough stuff all in just a couple of hours, so after the first half-ish I was pretty spent for high-energy combos and stuff. One weird thing about the GoPro is that it doesn't have a screen, so I have no idea what I'm filming, so I HOPE the shots turned out.
Anyway, I'll put it all together and see what I have. I should easily have enough for a video, but I'm not sure if things will be too boring... We'll see. I've been waiting to do this for, like, months. Can't wait to see what came from it! There are some pretty buildings on campus.
My neck hurts quite a bit. Also, I've been back and forth over which song to use... I think I've got a good choice, but it's not quite what I was looking for... We'll see.
EDIT: Well, I watched back my footage and I'm disappointed
70% of the shots cut off my feet. When I'm actually shredding, you can see my clippers and stuff, so it's not SUPER bad, it just... really detracts, especially since I was too far away too, so there is a ton of space above me (KIND of on purpose to get the scenery in the background) and my feet are cut off... When I had my girlfriend film me (who was really unenthusiastic
), I told her to aim a bit higher than I should have, and that trick I hit, spinning ducking double legover, is cut off at, like, my waist
The mostly tripod and all at the same low angle also looks really boring... I might AT LEAST go to the park nearby and film some stuff with my girlfriend holding at a higher angle and redo that spinning ducking DLO -- I got it in not too many tries. So, yeah, disappointing... But the shred is okay/good. That really good run was, like, 32 contacts, so that's cool. The wide angle of the GoPro HD Hero 2 is SO wide that I swear I was BEHIND the camera, but it totally got the whole run. Crazy.

I remembered that I can sell my used textbooks back to the university book store. So I did that today, hoping to get enough to buy the LCD backbac for the HD Hero 2. It's $100. My textbooks cost probably about $400-$500... and I got $64 for them. Some they didn't even want, so I just donated, 'cause I didn't want to lug around some computer science textbook on Python for a class that I dropped out of... I'm moving to London, Ontario in less than a week. So, well, that was enough to justify the purchase in my mind, even though I really shouldn't be spending any money... But, so, now I can get a short session of handheld footage at the park to replace the crap footage that I will have to weed from my U of T video. It will still not be what I wanted it to be, but better than wasting a day to go refilm everything I did... especially since this entire week is all cloudy and rainy, and I leave on Monday. Ramble, ramble. So I bought the LCD screen -- pretty fun! I can't wait to really try it out. The only downside I foresee is a halved battery life if I leave it on (which I plan to do with my girlfriend hand-filming). It should still give me an hour-ish of battery life.

I can't wait to put this video together (although I'm kinda disappointed with how most of the footage came out, so a little less can't-wait-y than before). So I decided to throw together some footage from that last frustrating session in the "rain". I think I was just never going to use it, but I think I'll maybe use half-okay footage for blog videos that I will set to "unlisted" on YouTube, so they don't clutter my channel. That way you can only really see them from my blog and nowhere else, unless you get the URL somehow. It's not so bad -- 15.7 contact average, which isn't bad. This was the session where I wanted to make sure I can still do runs. But like I said in that day's entry, the weather conditions really messed with my game.
I'm not sure what happened with the beginning of that second run. Somehow cut the clip at the wrong spot. It's tough when my computer struggles to play back the raw HD footage... I think it's also not too tough to see why I'm bored with my tricks -- I have, like, 5 tricks that I repeat in every run...

Thanks Ken
Well, I just tried to film that fill-in session for my video. It was pretty disastrous
It was crazy windy and my shins were feeling really weak -- I couldn't flip step for the life of me. I think I had a few decent runs, but given the time I spent trying and failing to hit some things that I hit "off camera" previously, it was super frustrating. I also pulled my hip trying to get that spinning ducking DLO again
Sigh. I think I will just make up for all of this by filming another video at the end of summer on UWO campus over the course of a few sessions to alleviate pressure and frustration. I'll watch the footage from today later tonight and see what I've got. At least it should hopefully be well framed with the new LCD screen. It seemed to last longer than the hour I expected too, which would be nice!
I don't really have a hack video to share, but if I were to name a second favourite non-footbag athlete, after Rodney Mullen, it would be Danny MacAskill. I don't know anything about either of these sports, and there are probably better players, but the talent and video quality really speak to me. I could watch this guy's videos all day:

I moved cities a few days ago.
I just had a first look at editing my U of T video. My computer just can't handle the HD. Maybe because the clips are so huge (duration-wise). I did some Google trouble-shooting and maybe my hard drive just doesn't spin fast enough to access the memory? I'm not a computer guy, so I'm really shooting in the dark here. I think my computer is pretty powerful too. Right now if I were to try to edit, it'd be 90% blind, only being able to "preview" after exporting... That's super frustrating, especially since I'm already pretty dissatisfied with the footage and whatnot. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it... Not make a video? Bleh.
Here's a classic. This was right around the time that Vasek started to master furious, blowing everyone's minds...

Alright.
Time to school.
I'm going to start training in order to get back to where I was in hack in, like, the summer of 2009, which was probably my peak. After semi-recovering from that back injury, I'd started to play again and had a similar training regime, but pushed too hard and fucked my back again in early 2011(?) My back has been preeettty good lately, with my conditioning and Yoga, so I hope I can get back on track. I've gotten better at a few things since, but overall my game has really suffered, especially run length and consistency. Today was my first session after moving to London, Ontario. Holy crap is it hot here (and, or, humid??) I want to have a training routine in order to both get better at fundamental stuff and at the same time push run length and average contacts. Here's what I came up with a couple minutes before this first session:
TRAINING SESSION #001:
May 21, 2012
Bag: Pengpeng
Duration: 1.5 hours
Note: "X" will refer to a drill where each consecutive rotation of the drill will add an extra contact of the same-side trick. So, this first one, osis > far osis [repeat] continues to osis > far osis x2 [repeat] > osis > far osis x3 [repeat] > etc. The number after each drill thing will refer to number of contacts of tricks. For this first session I gave a few initial tries for each, except the longer ones which were just a single attempt, 'cause I didn't wanna do so many contacts over and over... Requirements for future sessions will be to beat at least one record, but I will try for each drill thing each session (body willing).
Osis > far osisX: 34
Butterfly > pdx mirage: 74
Gyro clipper > spinning clipperX: 23
Gyro+spinning legovers/mirages/pickups separated by butterflies: 24
Ducking+diving legovers/mirages/pickups separated by butterflies: 28
Ripwalk > sidewalkX: 22
Tap > atom smasher: 8
Smear > pixie same mirageX: 13
DLO > same DLO: 7
Eggbeater > same eggbeater: 6
DDD > barfly: 3
Pdx drifter > drifter: 5
Far whip > whip: 27
Torque > pdx torque: 2
(At least 5x) 20+ contact runs: 20, 28, 23, 24, 20
(Semi-dense -- I think if I hadn't tried to incorporate more variety, and stuck to my usual fare, I would have logged a lot more 20+ runs. Although the majority of the session was the drills.)
Some other things I might want to add are:
-stepping same clippers
-near+pdx eggbeater/DLO/double switch separated by butterflies (well... somehow make the near double switches set from toe)
-nuclear?
-maybe make easier drills for double down/drifter/torque? Maybe just consecutives? Although I would like to get better at pdx torques + drifters...
I think the funnest part about this is that the runs I started to do after I finished the drill attempts were way more varied, and I found I naturally threw in things like pdx DLOs, pdx drifters, and things I wouldn't otherwise do. That's the point of what I'm trying to do here
The eggbeater and drifter drills were the most contacts I'd ever done of those. I'd only ever done the drill and stopped before. The eggbeater one felt like I could have kept going for at least 8 total contacts, which is cool. I'd like to do more eggbeaters. Also, apparently I can do double switches and reapers not too difficultly
In the supplementary footage for my video (that may or may not ever come to fruition) I surprised myself by hitting double switch > smear [repeat] both sides
I'd done this in barefeet before, but a first for shoes (way harder!) And BSOS reapers some more. I was doing some of that today too. It feels awesome
I also intentionally laid off bigger tricks and didn't film to help me focus on basics. Oh I also warmed up with a run that had far legover > clipper > near legover > clipper [repeat] > same with mirages > same with pickups, and in same run, far legover > osis > near legover > osis > same with mirages > same with pickups, which felt satisfying, especially considering my weak osii. I had always kind of left out illusions because they aggravated my knees, but I'm not sure that that excuse holds anymore. I love illusions, and it would be cool to do stepping near illusions, ducking, gyro, etc... but I would have to really work them from the ground up. Oh... no maybe I mostly never did them because I the them... I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble :p My eggbeaters are clean enough... Weird. Maybe I will check the Trick Tips forum to see what's up with illusions.
Anyway, I look forward to future training sessions, and hooking up with Zach Forth this week. Sadly, Johnny moved back to Brantford JUST before I moved here. Hopefully we can have a jam with Zach, Johnny, and Dante before Dante goes back to Kingston though. That'd be fun, and I think both Dante and Johnny drive (bus fare between these towns is pretty steep, and I'm dead broke...)

EDIT: Oh yeah. Workout streak: 1
The move was pretty intense. Since it was just me (my girlfriend is very dainty...), just the moving in part (never mind moving out) after a long drive took me 7 hours... I've learned how to be more efficient with solo moving in the future. Ugh. It was super stressful. Oh yeah, I had 20 minutes of sleep the night before too. So, that's my excuse for breaking the streak

TRAINING SESSION #002:
May 27, 2012
Bag: Muffinman
Duration: 1 hour
I added some new drills. I think I will just have this long list and be able to choose what I will do each training session. I will try to work on things that I've been neglecting, body willing. For example, I couldn't do torques today because they were hurting my hip on one side (although I don't think I dropped a single mobius! -- and there were quite a few). Weird how torques take so much more oomf than mobiuses... And weird that it was hurting my hip, not my back...
Anyway, I beat a couple records from the drills of last session too (barely), so I'll just add what I did new or what I beat:
osis > far osisX: 36 (previously 34)
ddd > barfly: 4 (previously 3)
stepping clipper (left): 9
stepping clipper (right): 10
blender > same clipper: 8
dyno > same clipper: 14
reverse swirl > butterfly: 20
swirl > butterfly: 6
pdx egg > butt > bubbabeater > butt: 8
pdx dlo > butt > dlo > butt: 16
far symple swirl > same clipper: 4
double pickup > butt: 8
(nuclear, torques, and double switches were hurting my hip)
(At least 5x) 20+ contact runs: 37, 25, 20, 25, 21, 23
I was a lot more consistent today, and almost every run was decently-lengthed, as long as I didn't try things TOO far out of my comfort range. Getting there, though. That first 37 felt solid. Difficulty for all were kinda average -- not hard, not easy. I ended the session with an easy 108-contact run. I'd also started with the same similar tiltless run as last training session, first try again: the 24-contact tiltless and then the same but osis instead of clipper, and then in the same run I did a lot of BOP drilling and some easier drills, like, spinning clipper > gyro clipper [repeat], ducking clipper > diving clipper [repeat], and then started doing downtime things both sides, like whips, drifters... I think I dropped on DLOs. It must have been between 70-100 contacts too. So, all-in-all a pretty satisfying session! Especially considering another frustrating session, my first, with Zach Forth a few days ago.
Some kids play soccer all the time in the parking lot of my building. They flocked around during that last session with Zach, but today a few were flocking again. I heard two of them keep saying to the older one, "Ask him! Ask him!" And then, I assume the older one (12-ish?) saying, "It looks hard, but it's not." I both can't see without glasses while I play and was in the middle of a run while he said this. Later on the kids asked if they could try (I guess that's what they wanted the older one to ask?), and asked if it's the same as their soccer. I said it's lots different because the soccer ball is a lot bigger and bouncy. I dropped a paradon to explain that it's easier to do two-times-around (should have done DATW in retrospect), and then did an ATW with their soccer ball, which stunned them, apparently
"He did an around the world!" as they ran off. Oh yeah, at one point the young one was, like, "There's a trick called 'around the world'", and I was, like, "Yeah, it's got the same name in this too!"
Oh, I did stepping same dyno BSOS first try, which was cool. I think that's a really underrated trick. Much cooler than GYBAS, which I wanted to BSOS in the same run, but the bag got caught in my shirt :/ I could prolly BSOS all 4. Which is weird, since I've NEVER done dynos. And blenders moreso. I was also super impressed with all the reverse swirls I did! Never done so many, and I never practice them, though I've been doing more lately... Oh yeah, I also did blender > osisx2 [repeat] > dyno > osisx2 [repeat], which felt amazing! I'd love to get good at these tricks.
Uh, yeah, that's about it.
No progress on the video. I've been busy with scholarship applications and stuff. Oh man, I'm hungry.
Workout streak: 7 days
Workout streak: 7 days
Circumstances ruined what was supposed to be my day off today, occupying me for THREE very frustrating, unending hours of drivel. All that I wanted to do today was relax after stressing over a bunch of applications (and the ridiculous cumulative costs of transcript orders, priority post, and long-distance faxes (who still uses fax machines?? Geez! -- email is free, guys!)) and play footbag. By the time that I was able to, I had about 30 minutes left of sunlight. What a waste of a day. I only know 2 people in all of London, one being Zach Forth. The other I've known for a long time, but is a genuine chatterbox. Every time she asks me to just go for a "5-minute coffee" or something, it ends up, 1.5 hours and 3 hours. I will be even more careful about not answering phone calls in the future. Geez. Seriously. Oh yeah, and then, like, 15 minutes into my session, losing light, she called, after just seeing me for 3 hours, like, 20 minutes before. Needless to say that went unanswered.
Anyway...
The session was really frustrating because of this. I was trying to rush to get stuff in before I lost light, and then I gave up and went straight to my 20+ contact runs, but then I just felt out of mojo, like I didn't feel free to just play. And then dark fell, and mosquitos came out. I had some okay things, but only 2 +20s, I think. A 23 and a 37... something like that. I'm going to take tomorrow off too to ACTUALLY relax, and play footbag, before I apply for more bursaries and start looking for work. Oh yeah I filmed today too, but... it's probably all too dark anyway. What a sucky day. I did end on pdx blender BSOS, to end on a good note, which surprised me. I was only going for both sides. I did some kinda newer stuff too, like, dynos in runs, double pickup > double switch to open a long run (the 37?) ddd > stepping mirage > legbeater [repeat], first try. Stuff like that. No progress on any drills though.

Ahhh.
A good, fun session.
I didn't bother with any training stuff today. I just wanted to see if I could get some stuff together to make a first video in London. I didn't bother with camera angles or anything, but I hit some good stuff with which I'm happy. I think my string length may have been meh, like, average 15? But I think that's a weakness of mine -- I can't seem to find a balance between harder tricks and longer runs.
I inadvertently trained pretty well for blurrier > blurriest [repeat]. I didn't really mean or intend to, but I hit blurrier > blurry whip [repeat] first try, and stepping whip > blurriest [repeat] (this one's not new). I also had a good shot at the drill, hitting all but the last one, like, second try, or something. I should be able to do it soon
Oh yeah, I also did blurrier > blurriest BSOS. I got flurry BSOS (felt okay.. but probably still iffy on the one side) and blurriest BSOS same run. I hit that double switch > smear [repeat] drill I mentioned before, smog > pixie legover [repeat], vortex > spinning whip BSOS.. I dunno. Some other stuff. I was really close to blurry reaper both sides! I should probably school my reapers more, but... I kinda wanted to hit a new trick. I think I could do it with a little practice. Yeah, I dunno. Fun stuff, but a lot of shorter runs too, because I was trying to hit specific, harder stuff. Oh, I hit fog > atomic whip > ripwalk > fog > atomic whip, like, first try?
I'll prolly make and post a video tonight
It's easy to put together a video where I just slap clips back to back and throw a song over top, but with my U of T video I want to use non-hack footage too, synch it all to the music, and all of this... I think I'll just forget about it for a while and come back to it another time. Hopefully this quick one tonight should come out fine like previous quickies.
I'll also have to remember to patch up my footbags before next session. My two current faves are like sieves. Also, I will need to remember to put some different music on my phone. I only have a single album, and the kids were flocking again. At one point they were, like, "Does this song have bad words?" And, I was, like, "Uhh, yeah. Maybe just ignore that..." I also failed at showing them DATW, with, like, 6 tries... I finally did hit it, but they were looking away >____< Actually, the album I was listening to is that London duo... so I might even just leave the natural sound to help Christen my first London video.
EDIT:
Here's the video:

Oh yeah, the music stopped at the end, 'cause I let one of the kids play Fruit Ninja on my phone as I was winding down...

I had a decent session with Zach tonight. We filmed, so I played harder/better than otherwise. My shins kinda gave out halfway through though, and I brought out one of my mats, which kinda messed with spinning. I'll probably combine the footage with some other sessions before making a video, but I did hit some neat stuff, most notably blurriest > blurry whip > stepping whip > blurry whip > stepping whip > blurriest, on my second try ever. Oh yeah, also fog > pixie ducking clipper > spinning clipper [repeat] (I think?) first try. I didn't think I'd be able to do the flip pixie so well! I guess I'm eligible to try phoenix > fog [repeat]! I did quite a bit of stepping ducking too. I'd like to get better at that, but it's a shin killer for sure...
I had a good session just now.
I played really hard and hit some good stuff again. It was a killer session on the shins, but I somehow pulled through and it barely affected the session, well, except that I probably would've hit the blurriest > blurrier drill for the first time, but that's a super heavy impact one. I also did a ton of stepping ducking, although no decent runs came out of that. I filmed, so I'm gonna put together another video. I think there were less actual runs this time, and more kinda drill combos. I hit:
-fog > dimwalk > haze > dimwalk [repeat] (finally! and second try!)
-ripped warrior > flip fog (which is something I failed to hit 6 years ago, so that felt good!)
I can't really remember what else, but I have a bunch of clips, I think... I guess I'll see in a moment when I edit together a video...
Oh yeah, and I don't think I had many longer runs, but at the end of the session, when my camera died, I went for a single run and it was about 38, so that's neat. My one attempt. I think next session I might just go for as many 20+ runs as possible, and that's all.

I think I have a new long-term goal in footbag now. There are a handful of tricks that I've only ever hit on one side, and I think my goal is to eventually hit all of those on flip. That will make me feel really good. Some of those tricks are, like:Muffinman wrote:-ripped warrior > flip fog (which is something I failed to hit 6 years ago, so that felt good!)
-skullsmasher
-alpine toe blur
-predator
-bladerunner
-atomic drifter
-atomic diving symp mirage
-alpine legbeater (seeing a trend?...)
-gary coleman
-montage
-reverse montage rake
-reverse swirling blender
-backside bedwetter
-torch-r-rack
-moby dick
-whirr
That miiight be all.
I guess the problem is that they're all kinda tough tricks. The last 6 should be the easiest, but my flip atomic never really recovered fully from my first major injury 8 years ago (caused from pushing that same atomic...), so I'll have to be really careful. Hip stretching is my main stretch these days though, 'cause I want to get over that and be able to do drifters and nuclear and stuff without pain. It was a huge landmark for me when I hit flip tapping DLO BSOS a couple of years ago.
Also, a really nice message from Nick Polini made me just realize that I might finally be overcoming the peak in my game from the spring of 2009. Thinking about it, this is the first time I've started to actually play regularly since then. It feels good. I wasn't sure if I'd ever push beyond that level, nevermind ever play without knee braces again ♥
(Also... holy the framerates of my old videos are terrible! I thought my computer was dying or something, but it's just that I'm now so used to my new 60FPS HD camera...)
Yessss.
I figured out the problem with editing HD!
I did a bunch of research to first figure out the system requirements for smooth playback of HD Hero 2 720p @ 60FPS, then to figure out how to check my system stats one by one. My system is fine, and I think I'd done some research into my problem before and read something about the RPMs of the hard drives. I figured that maybe my internal hard drive spins faster than my externals, so I just copied a file over to my internal (which is really full!) and it runs perfectly smoothly!! So I guess I'm gonna change how I use my hard drives from now on. It's gonna take hours for me to switch the contents of these terabyte drives, though :/ But good news! I'll be able to edit my U of T video in the coming days
Or.. maybe now! I guess the bad news is that I will still have to deal with the crappy clips I have...
I'm also spending today trying to learn how to do a hand stand. I think I need more arm strength, so I'm doing this "L" position thing against the wall. If anyone has any tips... The whole swinging my legs up to the wall thing is so tricky. No way I could do a free-standing hand stand at this point... Man. It would be a dream to be able to do that eventually though! Probably great exercise for all the parts of my body that need it too! Hooray for summer freedom. I think I might actually be required to be working full time right now, since my girlfriend and I are on a kind of social assistance for people with disabilities (my girlfriend had a stroke when she was 14), but...I'm not 100% sure, and I don't waaanna. So until they call and I get in trouble, I want to spend the summer drawing, playing footbag, and spending time with my girlfriend before I start 2 years of intensive graduate studies in September... Too bad we're so broke -- I don't think I'll be able to make it to the Montreal jam. Johnny will be driving, but he's going a week ahead of time for work, and I both don't have the money to stay abroad for that long and can't leave my pet iguana unattended for more than a couple of days...
Oh, and since I'm apparently giving such an extra-footbag update, I'm having an undergrad paper published in a U of T academic journal, which is pretty rad. It's about the development of East Asian society and culture in the wake of Western imperialism. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't choose my film studies paper on Batman The Dark Knight, though, which the editor singled out as "particularly interesting" -- I figured they could probably use a change in pace from the usual long, boring essay fare... I guess not.

For the handstand... I dream of doing a handstand push up and a book i've read called Convict Conditioning by Paul Wade has some progressions for being able to do a Handstand Pushup. Guess, what you need to be able to do first? Yup a handstand. You should check the book out. I'm guessing other books like Naked Warrior, You are your Own Gym, and The Gymnast Body would also have good progressions and tips, but I haven't read them yet.
PS You should shoot me an e-mail.

Handstand pushup. Wow.
I'll be super happy with just a free-standing handstand at will. That's been a dream of mine for a long time. It seems so simple. Anyway, thanks for posting, Tony! My blog is so lonely.
I just had a laid back session at a nice park across the river. It was right at one of those outdoor public kids' mini water park thingies.. with water sprinkling from giant colourful things. I wanted so bad to jump in. It was blisteringly hot today. Too much longer and I probably would have burned. I did a short, 6km bike ride just prior, and I think that kinda jellified my legs -- I've been super sore from work out since that last session where I made the last video and from the handstand attempts the other day. And the crazy London heat kinda didn't help with the lazyness and exhaustion I've been feeling!

I warmed up for probably 20 minutes. And then I just went for 20+ contact runs. I got 10, almost all of which were 30+, so that felt pretty good. That's a 20+ contact run every 4 minutes. And a lot of time was spent catching my breath and drinking water. SOOO hot today and no shade. Holy. At one point a guy came and filmed me for a few runs. I think each run was a 20+ and I took few breathers between. I was owning footbag while he filmed. Pretty cool. I answered some questions and stuff, like about competitions and stuff. He asked a new question that I'd never really heard before. Something like, "Are there college teams?" or "Are there college competitions?" Something like that. I didn't really know what he meant, so I said there aren't really many players in general. A kid came up and asked a few things too while the guy was filming, like, "Is that a soccer ball?" to which I replied, "No, it's like a little soccer ball -- it's a hacky sack."
I have crippling social anxiety. I think most footbaggers just think I'm shy or don't talk much, but I was seeing a psychiatrist and taking drugs for it for a while (which really helped). Sometimes just leaving the house is really hard, so I was trying to psyche myself out to actually go play in a park with lots of people. It's not even just shyness. I shake uncontrollably just thinking of asking a question in tutorial at school. I was physically unable to make the best man speech at my brother's wedding (my other brother did it for me), and I was unable to say the eulogy I wrote for my other brother at his funeral (my best friend did it for me). It makes life really hard sometimes when all I want is to spend time with people. But I don't really have any friends either. Any I do have are my girlfriend's friends, or people I met through footbag. It frustrates me when my nemesis Eric Chang whines so much on Facebook about having no friends when he's so good at talking to people and obviously has a lot of friends. Anyway, yeah. I was shaking just thinking about going to play footbag at the park. It sounds so silly. Apparently my Master's program requires me to make a lot of presentations, so... it sounds really dreadful. But maybe it will also force me to overcome some of my issues. Either that or I will spend 2 years dreading the presentations every moment of my life... Probably both.
I'm really excited that Sherlock Holmes 2 came out on DVD today. I've been waiting since Christmas to see it. I loved the first one! The BBC show is spectacular too!
Oh, I'll share a video, since this was a kind of boring post. I watched Luis Monhollon videos beforehand to psyche me up. I went out with the intention to film in a different location a laid back spinning ducking video (I didn't end up filming). This might have been the first video of Luis I ever saw. Also the first time I heard this song, which is great, and one of my favourites to karaoke

EDIT: Also of note: it was so hot that I drank my entire camel pack full of water. Well, I've never filled it fully up to this point. I think it holds 3 or 4 litres, but I only fill it about half. And I drank it all, wanting more. Wow. And there have been many days lately that have been too hot for footbag. Wow, London.
