It has been a progressive week for this 25 year old kid and his brown and grey Teddy Monhollon footbag!

11/18/06 - 4.0 hours seshyoan with Fanizzle in the East Austin Ghetttto

Highlights:
 Illusion x 17 strongside :P
 One tiltless run with at least 25 contacts chockfull of beesauce
 Spinning Osis - new! Plus hit uncleanly on flip. That move makes me dizzy.
 Pixie Pendulum - new!
 Pimpy Pendulum - new
 Soooo close to ducking PS mirage on both sides it's ridiculous

Plus hit again a few times each all the sorta new tricks I've hit recently like DLO, Eggbeater, Spinning Butter BS, Spinning & Gyro Mirage etc.

John hit Pixie Dyno. Ridiculous. I've been shredding for almost a year and I haven't hit a 5 ADD yet, he's been shredding for what? 3 months  I don't get it.

Headin to San Marcos tomorrow. Hittin up the Reebook outlet store for some juh-juh-juh-juh-G-units!! Then shreddin it up while my girlfriend shops in the outlet stores. Hooray!

11/20/06 1.5 Hours

Solo session in front of the Texas State capitol building. Cody played CTF there the other day and mentioned it had good spots for shred, it DID! It was just the right amount of cold out side, probably 45 degrees F. THE COLD GIVES ME STRENGTH!

SHIN SPLINTS MOTHERF&&*$R!!! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!?!? OW   :x :x  :x

Worked on: clippers, butterflies, infinities. Left the toes at home this time.

CLIPPER CLIPPER CLIPPER YO! :D :x

The most I hit was 6 or 7 infinities probably 10 or more times. Shin splints were really slowing me down. But I did make a mental breakthrough on infinities, realized I was setting too high. A slightly lower set made a BIG difference. Also hit 6 or 7 contacts of butter > pdx mirage rpt a few times. Nothing much else.

Podiatrist appointment tomorrow. Let's see what happens. Good night.

Nice run man! Even with the shin splints that shit sucks ass. I used to get them while playing baseball all the time, my couch suggested that I rub them down with a small block of ice in circles, it worked everytime I had them.

Oh man.

I've really started running bad. I'm not sure what happened but this week I've felt like total shit. New injury of right ankle? It hurts when I shred. I'm running seriously bad in poker. I was on this really good streak and all of a sudden I've been running really really bad. Footbag hasn't been going too well either. I'm dropping mid run on the most basic crap like legovers and mirages.

Maybe it all just feel like it sucks worse than it really does because I was on this streak where I was hitting all these new tricks and winning all this money playing poker and all of a sudden the high ended. I felt like suddenly things were going my way, I was gonna move into intermediate shredder-hood and possibly have a chance to make poker real supplemental income. It's like I was deluded the entire time.

The comps are coming up and I have all these 4 add tricks I can hit now, but I haven't been able to link any of them. Blech. WHAT IS IT? I'm tired all the time but I can't sleep at night. I feel sluggish and have to drag my outside to shred. I don't feel like running at all. What the hell is wrong? My life is going pretty well, no complaints, I just feel shitty physically and it's making me feel shitty emotionally.

Anyone have any ideas on getting out of a rut?

Ben that's crazy man I've been feeling the same way! And today I kicked during lunch time and I was in front of people that never saw the sport before and yeah I hit some pretty good stuff but not like usual! Like you I was dropping on Mirages and legovers! And this week hasn't gone my way physical either! Well tomarrow is a new day right! After work tomarrow I'm going to shred and shred good!

Anyway what comps do you have coming up? Are you going to try and go to the Worlds next year? it's in Orlanado FL.

Feeling better. Had the past few days off, been spending lots of time with my girlfriend Amber. She's the best. She's cheered me up big time. We've just been doing this and that, did some holiday shopping, went to her family's house for thanksgiving. It's been good. We joined a gym this week and they have a really good dance area that is great for footbag. Mirrors and everywhere and the floor is padded hardwood. Just had a good session there tonight.

The Online Comps! At the end of this month! You are gonna enter right?

There's also our TX jam coming up mid december. That won't be competitive though.

11/24/06 1.0 hours Gym Session

Well had a little sizzession at the gym today for about an hour. Nothing big just hit RIPWALK and BLUR for the first time :) on one side. It's like all of a sudden I could do stepping today, I have no other way of describing it. Flipside is not too far away. Backside Blur seems like a feasible first 5 :D

Well gotta get showered and head out to dinner with some friends. Peace out.

One thing youll realize Ben is that footbag is full of ups and downs. Youll be working on one level of play for a while and you start feeling good about it, then youll start progressing to harder things and it only feels like you suck intil you get better at that. I lose and regain concepts all the time it is a viscious cycle dont let it get you down you are good at footbag.

Had a session on Wednesday. Played for 2 hours. We filmed one hour of it. We made a vid. It's alright. Y'all will have to wait until the Xmas calendar though to see it.

SATURDAY 12/2/06 - 3.5 Hours session with John and James
I was so surprised to see James show up! He is trying to finish up his last semester of college and taking a shitload of classes so I'm sure he's in academic hell right now.

Highlights:
 Ripwalk a bunch more times
 Blur once more
 Parkwalk - new!

Worked on clippers a lot. Got realllly sore! James was having a good session, he was trying to see how many tripless he could do, he got up to 5 or 6 I think. Also, John challenged him to hit stepping SS dyno and he did! Had a lot of spectators today, including this one chick who kept rambling on about energy healing or some shiz.

Good session but I am SORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEE!!!

I'm not really going to put a lot of work into my sets. I have plenty of downtime concepts I need to get solid (BSOS+ skill level) before I work on sets. It's fun, but I have to keep my priorities straight. Right now that is developing into a balanced player with a solid foundation.

Solo session yesterday 12/5 1 hour. Um nothing of note really. Played kinda shitty actually.

Session today 12/6 with John 2 hours
Highlights
 Illusion x 17
 Alternating inside stalls x 28 :)
 Gyro Clipper x 3 :) these things are fun!
 Pimpy Butterfly
 Pimpy Mirage
 Pimpy Symp Mirage (oK I guess I did a lot of pixie today :) )
 Clipper x 15ish both sides

Hit a few ducking clippers, eggbeaters, blur once, a few dimwalks, near symposium mirages, footed a bunch of DLOs. Decent session, but energy was low. My new shoes rock :)

EDIT: HOLY CRAP HOW COULD I FORGET. TOMORROW NIGHT MY FAVORITE BAND THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX ARE PLAYING AUSTIN. WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :D :D :) :) :o :P :P

I am not pleased.

My game has not been developing in the direction I want it to. I have been learning a lot of advanced 1-off concepts which are cool to say I have hit (ripwalk, blur, misc spinning crap) mostly on one side or the other. Meanwhile, my run endurance and variety have suffered. When I actually try to shred, I have a tough time time getting 10 contacts unless I do toe-to-toe tiltless.

This weather is depressing.

This time of year just fucks me up. Almost no daylight. I am fighting depression every day. It sucks. I feel physically drained for no reason. I feel weak. It is the physical symptoms of depression. I'm staying ahead of it mentally better than I usually do (when I was younger I would have days where I wouldn't get out of bed) but it's still a goddamn drain. I have trouble sleeping. I have barely any appetite, I have to force myself to eat. I'm trying not to get too angry about it.

I wrote to my old professor asking for a recommendation. He said that I was "only a mediocre student" and that I should "consider that before applying to grad school". Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have respect for people who tell the tough truth like that. Seriously, I do.

The main thing with footbag right now is that I don't feel I'm progressing as well as I should be. People who started playing around the same time I did (about a year ago) are starting to break away hitting stuff like 15 guiltless, tripless combos, fives... what the hell am I doing?

I didn't play last Saturday. I had to pick up furniture and move it into my house. It was quite the adventure, but I didn't like missing footbag. I haven't shredded since last Wednesday

12/11 1.5 hours session
FINALLY got my new Zeb Jackson bag in the mail. I can tell this thing is gonna be über cool when it breaks in. I managed to hit parkwalk and ripwalk with it, but mainly I just shredded with my zilla bag today.
Highlight:
 Butter > Infinity > Ripwalk

That was probably it. I challenged myself to hit it and was really shocked when I hit it first try, because my clippers/butters were shitty all session. I also hit DLO first attempt and it footed it my two other tries. Getting closer and closer to flip egg and flip stepping. Footed crispy DLO.

I really need to feel better. Hopefully the exercise got the some blood flowing and rebalance the chemicals in my brain a bit. I could use that.

dont sweat it man, it may seem like other people are getting better, but me and chris were talking about it and we think it all depends on your view. Look back at old videos of yourself over 6 months ago and you will see major improvement, thats what i did, and it made me feel alot better :)

glad to hear you got my bag, i hope it turns out well for you :P

Dude don't sweat it man! Your doing great! I always get all messed up when I start comparing myself to other people and that shit sucks bad. Recently I just started working on what I know and a go at my own pace kind of session. Zeb is right you need to look at yourself 6 months ago and you'll see a big difference!.

On the grad school thing, that professor is an ass! My wife is applying to grad school next year and gladly all the teachers that have made it to there masters have worked hard for it and tell her that all the time(kids and all)! There is no such thing as "medicore student" if you work at it you can get that degree! My best friend that lives in Dallas works 60+ weeks and he just finished his masters this weekend! I'm sorry if I offend anyone but that professor has no idea what he is talking about.

Yo thanks for the encouragement guys. I was really having a bad day, didn't mean to come off like a big baby about shit. I've been eating well, getting exercise and a good night's sleep the past few nights. I feel way better.

12/13/06 Session with John 1 hour 45 minutes

Yo this turned out to be a really good session. John hit a bunch of new moves including flip near pickup, far legover and flip dimwalk, plus reeeeally close to infinity. Also, he gave me a tip on osis that helped A LOT. I've struggled with that move ever since I could hit clipper. I think I made some progress on it!

 Osis BSOS, sealed tiltless with butterfly, mirage and legover all BSOS in sealing run :x :D (LOL at self for wannabe-Ken type highlight)
 Infinity x 9
 Spinning Clipper BSOS :P (sealed once, footed a second time)

I actually wasn't even going for spinning much. I was working on clippers and osis and one run I hit weak side spinning clipper without really thinking about it (never happens) and figured, shit I might as well go for strong side too to get b-sizzle. I hit that no problem :) BEESAUCE! An attempt to prove that wasn't a fluke a couple runs later I hit it strong side and a few contacts later footed it on weak side. Woohoo! Spinning is back!

My clippers had been getting worse and I was really frustrated. Midway through the session I started realllly dropping my weight with each clipper to really cradle them and it made a world of difference.

I'm back yo! :)

Warm up session this Saturday with the crew.

Jam in San Marcos this Sunday. Can't wait!!!
