DAMN, Steve's working for Tom now.

Anyways, just curious to know if anyone is arriving at the Oakland airport around 1:50pm by chance. To share a cab to the hotel.
EDIT: ^^^^ Nevermind. Maybe to just travel together?

Also, Steve, I didn't really look for this answer on modified yet, but do you know the cheapest way to get from the airport to the hotel? The Marriott's site said there was no shuttle/train/bus. Cab would be ~$40.

Oh and thank god its going to be cold. Stl is like a damn desert, then it rains and becomes a sweat lodge.

From Oakland International Airport: We want to get on Bart. Take AirBart($3 Cash bus ride)to Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station. Buy a ticket to ride Bart to the 12th St/Oakland City Center station ($1.75 each way, or you can buy both directions at once for $3.50). Hop on the Richmond line and get off at 12th St/Oakland City Center (11 minutes). Go to the 11th St. exit and the Marriott Hotel is right in front of you. Welcome.

Cory, I will say this: I don't necessarily trust the BART directions listed on the website. I didn't write them, and I don't live in an area that gets to benefit from BART so I don't use it. But you can get there on BART for pretty cheap, and you can get information from an amazing website that tells you everything there is to know about the universe... But I'll leave its name as an exercise to the reader.

Bart to Oakland would be cheapest and easiest. It runs directly from the airport through San Francisco to Oakland!

There's usually about 3 trains per hour.

From Oakland Airport, take the "Air BART" shuttle bus ($2 last i used it) to get to the Coliseum BART station. From there, get on any of the trains that go through 12th St Oakland. Exit at 12th St Oakland. The Hotel is right across the street from the exit.

From the San Francisco Airport, take the BART to 12th Street Oakland. Super easy.

I looked into the parking situation. It looks like parking a little bit a way at a "BART" station and catching a ride only rarely for a couple of dollars may be a way around it.

I have never been to this area by a long shot though... so we'll see...

Yes, for any given day, the best plan (depending on where you live) would be to park at a BART station and ride in. Day parking at BART is super-cheap.

However, you can't park overnight at BART. So you really can't use this solution if you're planning to stay longer than the last BART train that night.

Depending on where you live and what your needs are, you may be able to do it entirely with public transportation. However, if you really need your car, good luck.

Oakland is a large city (actually bigger by population than San Francisco), and as such, has expensive parking downtown.

(I just realized I originally posted the parking question in the USO thread by mistake.)

But I don't think I'm going to need my car at all after getting my bags to the hotel, so it doesn't even need to be anywhere nearby. I'll try to find a place outside of downtown where it might be safe. $160 for the week is a heck of a lot of money atm.

edit: found this. Looks like there are multiple garages near the airport which cost about half as much for long term parking. I'll look around more when I have a moment.

Not a bad option. But I think there may be even more options. The nice thing about Oakland airport is you can take a free shuttle to the BART (as per earlier on this thread) and it's a pretty quick ride to/from the hotel from there.

I'm actually pretty sure there are other long-term and cheaper overnight parking options in Oakland, you just have to look around (online).

But -- this is not a joke -- other parts of Oakland (beside the airport and "city center" where our hotel/tournament is) can be extremely dangerous, especially at night. So before you commit to a long-term or nightly parking deck/lot, please check with a local and/or post here to see if it's "safe". I'm not joking, this is very serious.

The airport is definitely safe, so that's not a problem.

Chrissy, it's really no problem at all to/from the airport. No problem at all -- especially during the day. I'm just warning people that you don't want to be in the "wrong" neighborhood late at night, which could happen if you park in an arbitrary spot that's close to a different BART (not the airport BART). The airport is totally safe, and BART itself is safe, especially in the daytime. You have nothing to fear! Just don't go walking in areas you aren't familiar with late at night and you're good. This is probably good advice in any American city... but especially in Oakland.

There will be booth staff throughout the week at Footbag Town. They will generally be able to distribute players' packs for pre-paid players.
