Cheers
It sucks being back at work after footbag events. I feel like I am surrounded by stupid people.
First I had like 3 people all trying to tell me about some problems with a particular record at work. When I finally succumbed to their constant demands that I look at the record and did, it took me about 5 seconds to find the cause of the issue (it had been merged with other records - anybody who could read would have been able to see this and I don't think it takes a genius to figure that if a record has been merged and you're dealing with the problem of missing information, that the merge is the cause)
I then had a number of other issues I can't really talk about, but one about budgets where we're not going to make a money making decision because the we budget the pay off per financial year, so there's only 2 months to go in this year, which means the cost this financial year will be greater than the profit, but only because of the arbitrary financial year budgeting.
Of course there's the on going issues with the girl defending the Tamil Tigers.
And then this random girl on facebook who I don't know started complaining about the two main political parties having the same policies on refugees. This is rather hilarious because the government is facing intense pressure at the moment from the other party because they've changed the policy to be more humane and many people claim this is too soft. At one point she admitted she hadn't read the policy of one of the parties and refused to. She also tried to complain about the Geneva Convention, which actually has nothing to do with refugees (confusing it with the 1951 Refugee Convention) and then posted 2 links defending her position when I pointed this out. The first link didn't actually contain any mention of the Geneva Convention, but did mention an organisation that has headquarters in the city of Geneva.
The second link was even funnier - confusing the Geneva Convention with the 1951 Refugee Convention and writing a long history of the convention;
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/feb20 ... -f15.shtml
It's a socialist website of course.
I love this quote;
"The Geneva Convention was drawn up in the aftermath of the Second World War and the Nazi Holocaust"
How can people be so ignorant of history? The Geneva Convention was written in 1899, and there were many complaints, and then war trials about breaches of the Geneva Convention - ie. the Nuremberg Trials. How do these errors perpetuate themselves?
Of course it's not really funny, because these people are so vocal and convince many people of their positions despite being so wrong. Just ask people whether the US has signed the Kyoto Protocol or not to see how much influence these people have.
The only positive to come out of it was her removing me as a friend - since I always accept friend requests and never remove them (except in 2 exceptional circumstances), but have lots of people I don't really want to be friends with. Hilarious after that she kept debating me and asking me questions, despite the fact that I can't respond now.
Anyway whatever. I just needed to rant somewhere to get it off my chest
