Journal Entry 1 – English 50

It’s funny. I have to write this journal for english and everyday I think of things to put into it when im walking to class or something, but then when I come home I have no desire to sit down and type my mid-walk ideas. I have to write three times a week, so I guess im already behind a little bit. I don’t really care though. I should, I know, but for me writing has to grab me by the throat and throw me down at the computer. Those are the times I do my best work, when I just have to sit down and let the words flow from my fingers to computer.

Sometimes I wish I wrote on paper, where the words seem to have more life. Writing seems so cold with the blinking cursor. I feel like when you hand write things the emotions and ideas can be seen not just in the words, but in the actual way you wrote them. Its almost like painting. Huge flowing text when the ideas just keep coming, small and close spaces when youre forcing out every bit of description.

I’m not sure what this journal should be about, or what I should say, so as of now im just writing what im thinking. I think I heard somewhere most journals start with an introduction, but I think that is a little too blunt. Im supposed to show myself, not tell it, so perhaps the perception of who I am will be made up of the cluster of pages that I must fill over this semester. Who knows.

The computer is so cold and unfriendly. I love the feel of pages between my fingers, the way my palm sweats with every sentence, the way every period feels like a definitive “umph!â€

I realize its just a journal entry, but if you never meet (or read) even one person (book) you will DEFINITELY miss the most important one.

How is you back feeling, Dave?
Do you have to wear the brace up until Friday, or is it off yet?

My back is a mix of feelings.

Yesterday I was juggling club and I think that movement (just loosening up my back in general) really helped me. I walked away from juggling club with 0 pain.

It's weird though, because the pain was back this morning. I'm not sure why that is. It just fluctuates based on what I do during the day and such. However, the pain is nothing close to what it was back in the day, which is great. It used to be hard to sleep but now it's fine.

I think that through smarter playing and doing some other activities in combination with footbag I will be able to start playing again. However, I feel like I will play a bit differently (I have some ideas, but I may be all talk).

Thanks for caring.

So I thought that Felix post was funny, but I guess alex's east coast humor style is lost on others.

Its not just this incident though, its a lot of stuff. Like how Tina thought I thought I was better than vasek at worlds because I made some jokes. Or about how she thought I hate european footbag. Its amazing that what I think is funny and what I joke about is taking so literally.

Its also stupid that people got pissed when I hyped my bags on the microphone at worlds. Shit, get over it. They were using my stuff and I was joking around and said stuff about my bags. Its not as bad as posting every single hack you make on this forum.

It pisses me off that the level of tolerance I have for others isn't mirrored and I just feel like people think I'm cocky/rude or something, when I'm not. Most of what I say is just me joking around with a serious attitude. Sorry if people can't read through that.

For the record, alex and felix are really tight and felix is like one of my favorite players ever, so sorry that we thought the YMCA in finnish was funny.

Screw it.

dude dont let that get to you. I thought it was funny as hell. people that dont have humor are just sad.
It kinda made me mad too to see jorden say something so horrible in that thread. It doesn't always have to be strictly serious footbag all the time. I love a good laugh and I sure got that from the ymca and all the dudes that were owned in that thread that still probably dont get it. Should try a fourth and fifth link and see if they still dont get it

It was pretty obvious you were joking....heavy modding for extra grip? How would it even be possible to tell if the soles were modded, let alone provide more grip...? The whole thread cracks me up.

I felt weird all day.

Some guy on the street told me I dropped my smile. It was smirk worthy for a second but then I went back to frowning. Bummer.

I played yesterday, my back hurts. It fluctuates so much. In 10 minutes it will be fine, I know it.

I'm not going to post on a forum of a sport I'm not even seriously playing.

I'll be back when I'm pain free.

Dear David,

I thought that thread was awesome. I think people just didn't get that no one was making fun of Felix, just saying that he is from the same place. Felix is the first person I think of when I hear Finland, so it makes sense to me that he's who was used in a joke thread.

I like sarcastic, dry humor and when I moved here a lot of people didn't pick up when I was being playfully sarcastic. It's funny the way people in one area can have one sense of humor or style of speaking and other people totally don't get it. Maybe it was just the people I was hanging out with.

That type of humor is not an East Coast thing, just a people who like that type of humor thing. I thought it was great. It's important to remember that people who are not native English speakers probably have a hard time picking up on subtle humor. When you make a joke, David, you often say it like you're completely serious (which is part of why it's funny), so I can understand how Tina might not get the right idea.

I'm glad you're taking things slowly with your recovery. I think once someone has played for long enough it gets easier to know when it's important to wait and heal up completely. Man, I remember playing on a (freshly) horrendously sprained ankle because I didn't know if/when I would be in a circle with Chad again. Haha, newb.

I hope school is going well.

Love,
Auntie Emily
