I've been pretty slack about my write-ups and in modified lately. Like, I personally have the feeling that going on modified and posting anything feels like pure nonsense in a way. I totally enjoy my life outside, in the physical world, and I don't want to restrict my enjoyment on the internet most of my day (I'm calling all you WoW fanboys out!).

There's also a lot of good RPGs coming out too, and I just feel equally as bad not to touch on them just yet. I have a lot of RPGs I haven't played yet and have bought, and with the release of XenoSaga 3 and Tales of the Abyss, I just feel a small bit of emptiness inside. i also feel glad that i love going out much more, because videogames are the devil to good health. :P That's about it.

10.1.2006

I awoke in a dizzying slump on a cold Sunday morning. Chris Dean was sleeping toward me, unconscious and very close, and I thought that was very creepy. Willie Digges was wrapped in his blanket like a cocoon, and Mike Gerard and some other guy (not Nick Laroche) was passed out in the other side of the 4-square room. As I stood up, I looked into my watch to see that it was 9:30 am, and the other room was lit up. Grumpy and out of voice, I walked in barefoot and in my shorts.

The computer room was lit up, and Skippy was half-awaken and half-baked from last night. We chatted some things, about Circle Comp and the night before, and I was busying hand massaging the bag i sold to Pengpeng. It felt sooooooooooooooooooo good and choice, but I guess I was still pretty burnt from last night's partying. Matt Cross was awake and he came in to type in his blog on modified. Pengpeng was in her jammies and came to chat with us chaps some. People were knocked out in the living room, especially Pat Tallon who encompassed the whole couch. All I knew was that I just wanted to shower and get comfy ASAP.

As I spent some alone time in the bathroom, the Caterers brought in the food. It was a whole assortment of delicious sweets, coffee and juice, and it really didn't fit the bill for my appetite. Still, i had a nice chocolate croissant, juice, and later coffee to keep me full just a bit and we began our early morning socialization. Tom was kind of pissed that the bowl of Vapir weed was finished somehow, and I took part of the blame in that action. Though i didn't finish the bowl, I was part of the crime, so if I could repay for it I will in some way or form. It didn't seem like a huge problem to him, but I would like to offer a helping hand.

Ryan Seath came to visit the apartment, and had to leave after saying goodbyes. Our beer pong rivalry will have to wait for another day. :(

Everyone seemed to have awaken/shown themselves one by one. Willie woke up in a small daze, but revving up for some footbag even with a sore body. He did some barefoot shred which was cool. Pat Tallon woke up, but slumped over at his couch space. There was a moment when Tom and Peng were sitting at the opposite sides of the couch, and they were trying to reach ot each other. I thought was pretty cute, since Pat was like some mountain separating those two. Then Pengpeng started "mewing" like a kitty and I just couldn't stop giggling to myself. :)

The FAT and RFA crew gathered each other at the apartment. Aric and Mike were joking a bunch on what happened the night before. It looked like Camille and Nick had some differences on who was the biggest jerk that night. Everybody else seemed to be hungover. Chris Dean was especially sleepy, since he was still sleeping when it came to the time of 10-11 am. So, me, Camille and Matt entered the foru square room and riled him up. I kicked him to wake up a bit and Chris retorted in the most grumpy awakening. That was the funniest moment that morning, and I guess we all relished in our wake-up call.

We then watched some Fourkast on the living room tv, but I think Greenwood kept using his buttcheeks to magically disrupt our viewing enjoyment. Damn you and your ass! (Not that I have the right to complain, since I ritually watch Fourkast whenever possible at home :)). The computer room was airing Vaska's new video and I was completely blown away. I think he was going triple switchovers and triple/quad dexing moves in his strings. Did i see Blurry Flurry all of a sudden? Must be my eyes playing tricks on me. Damn is this guy good...!

So, around the afternoon the weather outside kind of turned to rain. I felt kind of disappointed since i wanted to see Queens Campus and some footbag golf and shredding outdoors, but I guess we all tried to keep our chins up for the best.

Anyway, we all rolled over to the the same ol' shred spot and did some kicking. The floor was all sticky from the rain, and the glue had stuck on our clothing, gear, and shoes, etc. Still, we had some energy to persistence to have fun today. I was most impressed that there was a shuttlecock circle when we were there, and I had a lot of fun trying to consistently kick it with some flyers and other cool tricks, i guess. There was a time where me and Taishi tried to do some pixies with it, and that was super cool. I tried to go for Hyper, and failed miserably through many attempts. :P

There wwas supposed to be some Sick comps today, but I guess there was a huge consensus from all of the players that they were all too sore to compete. I wanted to compete too, but I shared the same feelings. Me and Ben Roscoe were discussing our sick links, and I wanted to try Legbeater > Barfly > opp side Eclipse for sick 3 and Soul Stealer for sick 1. Good thing I didn't go for it, and for the rest of the day it was just laid back freestyling for the rest of us.

Oh yeah, i hit my first clean whirl that day because of Dave Clavens' advice. I had hit whirl before, but I was always too quick to rush on my sets and dexes that i usually miss. He told me to take it easy and not to rush on the move - just be patient with it. So, after his sound explanation I hit it super clean from there. Thanks a bunch Dave. I felt really tired and dazed that day, but because I was in a circle with the Cleaver it kind of motivated me to play even further.

Oh, and Robert Wojici-something is the coolest kid ever. Being so young and short and hitting some phat combos so early in his history in footbag was just awesome. His fairies are very consistent, though only on one side I think, and his shred has become very consistent throughout the whole event. Dave was giving him a lot of props, so that is something special.

After joining other circles, I kind of retired from kicking that day and just hung around with people and chatted. Aiden was stitching a bag for Flash, Peng was sitting down to recuperate from some injuries over the weekend, and Taishi was playing around with his camera. I had a good time taking pictures with the guy, and there was one where we were comparing calf muscles. Taishi had a ton of beef to back up his, but I flexed as much as I could to compete. That was a funny time, only second to my picture session at the bar after Funtastiks.

Did I mention that i can't tell the difference between Derrick Ogden and Adam Greenwood sometimes? I mentioned that at the KICKASS tourney topic in modified. Skip and Tom told me that the way to distinguish the two apart was that Derrick plays in Climas and Adam Lavers, but I still couldn' tell. Derrick was playing in G-units that day, having left his Climas at the Juice bar last night, and that made me more confused. The funniest moment was when Skip yelled out "Greenwood!" and both Adam and Derrick looked up at the same time. Stop confusing me!!! So yeah, me and Skip just snarfed down sammiches and watched some shred together.

Although, toward 3:00 in the afternoon I started to panic a bit. I spoke to the whole RFA crew to see if I can find a place to crash for the night, so that i can catch up with my train at the Rochester train station. Nobody had room for me! Mike Anello wanted to spend some quality time with his fiance, Aric's roommate had some people sleeping at his place, and Paul had to go to his studio as soon as KICKASS was over and work there for two days straight for a project. Chris Dean lived in Geneseo which was about 2 hours away from Rochester I think, and Matt was at Fredonia which was even further. They were both busy as well, Matt with his morning class and Chris his job. There were two other Rochesterarians there as well, and they didn’t have any housing for me to stay in. I didn't know what else to do at the time.

So, it was time to leave. I think we all wanted to make a quiet goodbye so that we didn’t have to do any heartfelt goodbyes, but I did it anyway. After a small fiasco with picking up my stuff from Tom’s apartment, saying my farewells and getting a tad lost (I’m a HUGE ditz when I’m in a rush, and panicky), we hit the road. Well, we almost hit Tom too, since he kind of “criedâ€

Think of footbag tournaments as big family reunions. Sure we live all over the place, but once in awhile, we arrange to all get together. The real world awaits during all the other times, but it's not that far away til Cornell.

See you then Waylon!

This is a recent update on my blog here, away from my write-up for Kickass and whatever.

So, I'm literally swamped with college work. That sucks ballz. I'm always on my ass everywhere I go, and I only use my legs to walk to places or stand when it is needed. NO FOOTBAG. It's totally gay, and oh so boring. It's hard for me to cope with the college lifestyle like this in these winter months (which imo are the most intensive semester sessions there are, summer still being in the lead). Since it has been so cold to play outside, and I have no indoor shred space, I've been smoking a lot of weed.

Sure, it's good to have weed for the high and relax some sore muscles. Most of us use it to relieve shred pain! Still, I have no time to kick these days, and I'm always on my ass doing something productive that doesn't concern footbag. So, weed is there for me to help pass the time. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I definitely need to smoke in moderation. I feel that I have been doing too much to keep me motivated on my college work that it can be frustrating sometimes. I always feel tired and sore the day after, and I just keep jumping back on the boat with this stuff.

I just don't have time for my hobbies these day, like stitching, kicking and I guess TV in general. I just have my crappy mp3 player to keep me company.

Although, I can't say that I can complain too much. I have recently met a girl I've known for a year or more, but I was too shy to talk to her too intimately. I think last Tuesday we've hit it off pretty well, and I just enjoy talking to her these days. Thursday and Friday seem like good days for me to make my move, so I'm hoping for the best for this.

It's Monday morning, and I've been procastinating and jittery on a Monster Energy Drink for the past 7 hours.

I was supposed to work on a paper that was supposedly due by midnight of Friday, but have yet to start it! I keep telling myself to work on the paper, but writer's block and my social life have kept me back. Friday I was super busy with taking care of my niece and nephew, and they don't give me any time for me to prepare, study and work on a paper. Saturday I had to drop off my grandmother home at Chinatown, since she's been visiting and staying with us for the past two weeks. After that, I went for some hardcore shred in 58 degree weather, and strained my flip ankle with too many attempts on paradon (I had to stay, since Katya, a shredita in our club, has borrowed DVDs from me months ago and she was going to return them to me that day). So, for the rest of Saturday and Sunday, I was really, really sore to do anything productive.

And now I'm red-eyed and jittery for not sleeping the whole night with this paper in mind, with writer's block keeping me from starting the paper. Yeouch. And I have a draft that i have to get starting soon for another class today. Double Ouch.

Well, I'll have to work on the assignment I have to do by today, than work on the paper that is beyond late. I'm still going to work on that one, though; tonight seems like a 'golden moment' to get started on it. My professor is going to be effin' pissed, but I have no formal excuse to tell her about my tardiness. Oh well. :|

I'm just getting slightly depressed as time goes by, but I won't go into the specifics of it. It's all nonsense, really, and it's just stupid for me to recite into text on this blog. I'm going to try to keep a positive outlook on everything these days, but it's definitely apparent that I've been slacking wayyyyyyyyyy too much this semester.

As for footbag, I'm having a growing concerning for my pixie sets. I think the window that I dex them in are way too thin to be feasible, and they've become sloppy. I think it's because of the G-unit toe walls, but it's also mainly due to me rushing the set. I can do them with better results with my red Lavers, but they're like one size too big on my feet to do a clean set. My atomics have suffered on Saturday's shred, because I haven't done any serious training for a whole week (and this week is likely to turn that way as well). Well, everything is going capoot.

I did think of a snazzy link, though. After a paradon/barfly/DOD/DDD > gyro ss DDD > op motion. I need to make myself a Dexmaster, or get myself a cheap plunger. :P

Pixie legover drill, bsos. Not sure if I was successful in it all, but I felt a bit accomplished in taking some time on working on a weakness I've had for some time. There's something to the leather G-units that I want to further mod, but since they're a pretty rare pair I don't want to fuck them up too much. In fact, I'll probably not go into further modding, since taking out the leather toe and inside is all that's really needed.

Cleaver gave me some good tips on the pixies, so I really need to work on them much more.

Oh yeah, since I'm rambling off on this drill, I hit magellan > pixie op legover > pixie... drop in flip flops still wet after this morning's shower. I'm really thinking it's the height of my G-unit's toe walls that are killing my game, but it's also bag placement on my toe (overall, my general technique blah blah blah).

I've gotten a much more concise view on stepping set now. I just need to motivate myself to school it bsos, along with clippers obviously.

I've been watching a lot of Vasek videos lately, and I'm pretty enthralled by his "floaty" stance whenever he plays. It reminds me of Chris Dean's huge butterflies, or Matt Cross' whirls to some degree. It kind of makes me think about my stance whenever I play, and the amount of air time I should control. Also, I'm pretty blown away from Vasek's Blurry Flurry, Fissions and his double down game. With that said, I am getting bored by his consecutive Whirls and Barrages... :?

Anyway, that's all for me now.

Final note: If anyone can help me with exercises that tone down fatty thunder thighs, that would be super cool. Maybe I should school some symple jumps or tricks and such in my free time.

PS: I caught a cough, and I feel awful about it. :(
PSS: Chainmail bags are gay. Period.
PSSS: I should stop logging on to modified so much. :?

So, I kind of sprained my ankle yesterday afternoon. I was going for flying toe > spinning symple swirl and landed badly on my left ankle. Purely my fault for going extreme, and I wasn't frustrated with myself on this injury. Still, it's weird to see that my left ankle swelling up so much, not like my right from Memorial Weekend and whatever (probably because it was symple, therefore more pressure on the injured area).

I can't lie to anyone: IT HURTS A LOT. Luckily my sister was visiting my household that same day and offered me my brother-in-law's crutches. I guess it feels cool to swing myself across just to walk and such, but I'm trying my best not to put too much weight on it. I already had help on putting some healing oils and bengay on the bruise, so I hope to recover soon.

I mean, I better recover so that I can get to Cornell at least. Competition feels a bit sketchy to me, but I'll have to see what happens by then.

You must be asking why I injured myself this way. Well, I finished a midterm, found some newcoming hackers outside, and I fired myself up to get kicking (I haven't really kicked this whole week with people, ever). I was excited, so much to the point that their rolly crocheted bag was fascinating to me. Then I got hurt, simple as that.

Whatever. I guess I'll do some stitching and play some videogames. I haven't touched on those two for awhile.

That's the best way to nurse an injury. I've been on a steady diet of stitching and battlefield 2142 for about a week.. ankles hurt for a while but you should be able to kick in a few weeks more or less depending on how bad it is. Think about how stoked you'll be when you start playing again.

Forgot to add this in my previous blog post.

Modified sucks really bad now. I just went into the Kicking Circle and saw all of the bullshit about modified nights. It's too inflammatory (in the bad way). I don't like it, and I'm a bit surprised on the lengths that Chris Miller
will go through in stirring trouble.

If I had any proper explanations about what is happening at the moment, I would say that this might be the reason why there is a lack of shreditas on this forum. Not in footbag, because the actual community outside of modified is the true representation and spirit of the sport. And I suppose a ton of other people might leave due to all of this.

I've vented enough. I should stay out of modified, at least until after the Cornell Jam.

I've been bad yesterday. I told myself that I wouldn't touch a footbag with my feet until my ankle healed, and I just got into a hack circle with some friends outside of my college. I just put my crutch and school books aside and tried to kick the bag. It was unsuccessful at first, but when I got into it I could do toe kicks pretty well. My balance was shifting to my right leg, the stronger of the two, so initially the feeling was really weird.

And... I tried to do some freestyle. I said I was really bad. :( I managed to foot Neo Smasher and Atom Smasher in my state (and having to limp a bit after both moves), so I guess that was fun. Toe stalls felt really uneasy and weird, since my ankle can't crank the way my other foot can (and my G-units were laced much looser on my other foot). I gave my ankle a lot of time to rest afterward, with some pressure-sensitive massages and easy ankle exercises to help with the blood flow.

Oh, and I think the swelling went down a bit too. I'm becoming more hopeful to play hard and compete hard at Cornell. Chicago NYJ is always iffy to me, since I think my expenses to Ithaca might go over budget. I just don't want to burden my family with too many of my footbag expenses. Still, I'm trying to keep my optomism intact, and focusing a lot of my time in schoolwork. I have a ton of papers I need to do during this week and the weekend.

I have no time to seriously stitch at all, and that makes me feel sad and poor.

Other than the thought of getting new shoes that doesn't involve footbag whatsoever, that's all the things on my mind right now.

Brief.

Post by Wasabi »

Ankle feels a lot better. Not confident in cranking it normally, but able to play footbag comfortably.

High. Too much. Need to do less.

There is a flu going around lately. Coughing a bunch, with some weird mushy/puffy/airy phlegm and not the usual stringy mucus phlegm. Want to get better. Soon.

My friend's father just passed away sometime this week.

A close friend almost ODed on her antidepressant medication. I just took 45 minutes and more of my time trying to comfort/help her. Hope she's alright.

College is hectic. All work and no play.

Everything is sad.

Tomorrow will be a blast. Cornell jam. Bought tickets today. Will show up late. Ken is giving a helping hand. Very excited.

A week has passed since the Cornell Jam. It was very fun, although I didn't play much nor did I wanted to compete to the level that I wanted. Danny Petrick won Intermediate Circle Comp, and got my prize bag for the tourney. In fact, I sold him a bag that I promised to make him a while back, so that makes two bags that he's gotten from me. I hope he puts up a picture.

I feel very sloppish these days. It's like after every class I go to, every moment I feel somewhat sober, I want to spark up the pipe and get high. Before it was purely a method to help me relieve ankle pain (uhhhhmmm), but now I'm kind of hooked. My ankle still hurts, and I have to say it obviously helped me go through these troubling 3 weeks, especially walking, but I'm going to have to make the effort to quit. I mean, I can't throw down that much money on weed since I'm getting ever so close to the poor house.

I should look for a job sometime around Christmas/New Years.

I think i should quit smoking around Black Friday to the end of the semester. I don't know yet. It hasn't affected my usual concentration in college that much, but it has made me feel more relaxed and lazy.

There are two or three girls that have recently taken interest in me. One of them I feel I made a weird impression.

Oh, and great news! I recently got an e-mail from Asami, Taishi's friend that lives in Kingston, Ontario (the one Nick Laroche was hitting on at the Juice club in Kickass 2 :P). She said that she and a few friends are going to visit NYC sometime during the winter! How exciting! I can't wait to show her around this great and diverse city. This is my first time being a semi-tour guide for a friend outside NYC, so I'm a bit nervous. Hopefully everything will work out in the end.

It's 5:48 am, and I'm off to do a paper. Actually, it's the final draft of the Cultural Self essay I'm writing - the one based on footbag. I'm going to try and not screw up. :P

Reminder: I have to stitch a bag for Chris Balch, One for Benny Kellman, two for the CIC NYJ, and one for Eliott Mowle in a trade. Not sure about Eliott, since I haven't seen him posting in modified too much lately.

PS: I visited the NYFA crew on Saturday afternoon, and I was informed that Ryan Mulroney made a visit at Washington Square, NYC! WTF!? I totally missed his visit! He was skateboarding around the area until he bumped into the NYFA crew and had a small chat with him. Apparently, he's now living in Burbank. Weird.

Ever since Sunday night I've been feeling very irritated. It doesn't concern modified or footbag in general, but it's usually a physical condition that I usually at the beginning of each week. Maybe the college semester is ending soon, maybe it's the block on my registration for not completing the CPE, maybe it's whether or not I should continue onto my college Spring semester, or maybe I'm about to be flat broke - I don't know. I didn't get much sleep from last night, nor do I believe that I will get any for tonight.

I have several assignments to complete.

I drank a RockStar energy drink and a sugarfree Red Bull. I also gotten back to tobacco smoking to ease my tension. I've gotten into pipe tobacco, in which I have a nice wooden pipe to use. I can't say that I'm glad that I've gotten back into the habit of relieving my nerves, which is ridiculous, but it helps to keep me calm. I'm too nervous to take a nap. I just have so much to do!

Professors are masterful in cramming plenty of work before the holiday seasons.

A friend of mine from highschool is visiting NYC to celebrate Thanksgiving. She's flying from Chicago, of all places.

I can't wait to get everything done so that I can finally relax. At least for a time.

Benny Kellman is going to Israel sometime soon. I have to make him a bag by then. The Chicago NYJ prize bags will have to wait.

edit: Janis gave me a few good exercises to improve the stability of my ankle, so I'm really excited to do those over the break. I don't have time to do it barefoot too much in private, and I'm pretty much wearing shoes wherever, whenever. I really hope that my ankle can come back to it's usual shred performance.

I know I'm writing a bit too much into my footblog lately (partly due to procastination, task organization and other matters), but I think this post is based solely on the concern I'm having on the modified community.

I've read the recent rise of dissatisfactory commentary on the matter of forum moderation and the many flame wars building up from this. In time, as we all would like to believe, can heal the wounds that have been dealt here and now. That is a likely, comforting explanation to cope with all of this conflict. However, the many issues that have come to light show that an immediate solution is needed, I believe. There are a lot of responses that express radical and immediate feelings for the moderating team, as though what we need now is a bureaucratic method to handle the problems that modified is having.

In this context, I can agree to these claims.

However, I feel that in taking away the moderating staff pure anarchy is likely to arise and cause more problems. It's doubtful to me that we as a community can act and associate each other in a well-mannered approach. We would only have to bully someone out if we find a severe disinterest in a person for their actions. Modified is a large community, and a community can't moderate itself on all matters. I have a lot of faith in the moderating staff, and what I believe the problem is is that they are severely understaffed. Also, some members have a severe distrust on who is in the moderating staff, marking them as elitists in patrolling the modified boards.

Also, it has come to me that people hate the Discussion boards, especially with the lack of an edit button to use. In a way, I don't understand this. Do people sincerely want to make modified an absolute footbag forum, where wild topics, arts and leisure and footbag-related conversations are to be had? So no one has an interest in discussing politics and radical concerns that people might want to be aware about? I think political discussions is a necessary item to have in any community, even one associated with footbag, so that members may have the opportunity to discuss fairly on what they wish to confront. I think the reason why that board is so unpopular is because 1)discussions usually turn inflammatory, and people don't like to get into arguments, 2) people don't like the idea of tackling political ideas and phantasms that are relative to serious issues and concerns (I'm sure I used 'phantasm' out of context )3)the lack of an edit button restricts users of certain freedoms, and 4) it's located in a very insecure location for users to look into (the Kicking Circle is directly above it). Those are my observations on the matter.

In truth, if anyone has a response to my views on the matter, please do it by PM. I wouldn't want to clutter my blog with this issue at hand, and some things may want to be kept private.

I was supposed to write a Cultural Essay based on the footbag community and our passions for the sport as an identifiable culture, but these recent events have left me concerned and confused, and I just don't know where to start from all of this. I know the community is better than this outside of modified, but the recent radical events and discussions in the internet variant still reflects partly on the footbag community as a whole.

I'm starting to smoke my tobacco pipe more and more because of the stress of the essay, and how to go about from all of this. i just don't know. It's very unhealthy for me.

I think I'm going to give a few footbaggers a call, to express my sincere concerns about modified, and the person behind the username.

I guess you're right, Sam. I mean, I do have a Cultural Essay to do based on footbag (a bit late in submission, to say the least) and I want to make a few thoughts clear about our beloved sport of footbag. The community is probably the most important when discussing the passion of footbag, as well as the advancement of physical fitness. I'm just trying to explain footbag as a growing sport that I can culturally identify with, and be wary that it is not yet a professional sport so that I don't mislead the reader. I just think all of this conflict has misled my general objection into writing this piece, and the distraction itself has me concentrate on modified more than my essay.

I'm currently reading an essay that one of my classmates submitted for viewing and for oral presentations after the Thanksgiving break. It's a personal essay similar to it, but as a sports fan for a football team (the NY Giants). It's very detailed, and I just want to portray my diction to a level similar to his. It's helping me to have a reasonable theme in writing this essay.

I'm putting too much thought on modified. I guess I value the online community as a part of the footbag community as a whole, but nothing too independent. I just think that whatever happens here still has an effect in reality, and thus affects my general perception for this sport and the community that I'm familiar with in the East Coast. Again, too much brainstorming, too much procastination placed on what matters most (my own view of my footbag career, and my paper).

I should be a bit more secular so that I can think to myself. Modified is becoming too much of a distraction, but I don't want to leave nor neglect this forum.

Anyway, whatever. I can't wait to relax over Thanksgiving break and plan on the jam for Benny Kellman. And stitching, since the last bag I ever made was since the Cornell Jam, and I don't want to get rusty too quickly.

I finally finished my Cultural Essay on Footbag! I think I covered most of the criteria I wanted to cover in my essay, but really, I submitted this essay way past its initial due date. Simply awful. However, I'm using it for an oral presentation that I'll have to do on Wednesday, and I'm severely stoked and nervous at the same time. I think I'm going to take out my "Ordinary Footbag Shoe" tee and go over a bit on the modding sequence of the Rod Laver shoe, take my old pair of fully modded Rod Lavers, and have a ball in my 10-15 minutes of presenting. Then I'll have 5 minutes for questionaires.

I'm so freakin' relieved. The past few weeks I've been on painkillers, weed and resting just to let my ankle heal (and writhe in pain), so I couldn't submit it in a timely manner. Of course, I was able to go to each and every class, but I could hardly concentrate from my ankle's soreness, and the drugs I was on. I'm just glad that I accomplished something.

If there's an interest in my essay, people are free to pm me about it so that I can e-mail it to them. The only footbagger I sent it to was Matt Cross, since he's the last person I've spoken to on the phone.

Oh man. I just feel so great about this. I'm going to work on other papers that are just as tardy due to my injury.

PS: My KFM scarf arrived a while ago. I feel so very badass with it. I'm going to wear it in my presentation, as well as my KICKASS '06 tee. Still deciding whether to go short sleeve(with long sleeve under) or baseball tee.

PSS: I'm thinking about taking out three footbags for the presentation: a bag I stitched, Pengpeng Du, and a Cuddlebaggie or Mr. Sandbag. The Mr. Sandbag is likely, because I need one to represent a bag that's filled with, what else, sand. :)

PSSS: I've been breaking in a ton of bags ever since my injury. Massive hand break-in sessions kicking sessions. I've been doing a lot of toe kicks to keep up with my consistency, and it has helped my tweaked ankle and helped break-in bags. Though it's a bit absurd, I just wanted to make a mental note of it on my blog.

*Bags broken-in: Johnny Suderman, recent Peng bag, Wasabi bag
*Bags currently breaking-in: Josh Raye and Cleaver bag

Reminder:
  • Stitch a bag for Chris Balch by December 16th.
  • Stitch a bag for Benny Kellman by December 16th.
  • Stitch two bags for CIC NYJ and send to Tom Kotsatkos no later December 11 (the date just popped out of my head).
  • Stitch a bag for Brian Dennis...? /suspense
>>End blog post.

So, yesterday was my oral presentation. I wore my green KICKASS '06 t-shirt with black longsleeve under, jeans and my modded G-units. I brought my "Ordinary footbag shoe" and my usual shred bag (that I made), a Peng bag and a Mr. Sandbag. I wanted to bring a Cleaver bag, but I misplaced in my coat pocket and didn't want to rummage too much on it. So... I went on the professor's desk, sat on it, and explained myself.

I thought I did pretty well. I was surprised that I didn't have a shaky voice, but that's because I didn't find anything that I felt shameful to talk about concerning footbag. I made everything I wanted to explain very concise and onto the point. I passed around the footbags and presented briefly on all of the modifications that comes from a footbag shoe. I explained what I found satisfactory and dissatisfactory about my essay. What I found stupid about my essay is just personal niches: like my first experience in footbag, the friendships I've made in it, and recent experiences at tournaments. It seemed it would take too much space to clearly express my thesis in my essay. Also, I openly joked around and tried to grab the attention of my peers and professor, so that I don't bore them in my speech and have them become submissive to something they're unfamiliar with. I also answered questions that I answer earnestly, like the drug culture and the pursuit to bettering oneself into this sport.

The only problem I found was that NOT MANY PEOPLE SHOWED UP. Insulting! What a huge letdown. I think it's partially my mistake for not giving them physical copies to have on hand so that they can prepare beforehand, and I apologised in my presentation, but it definitely felt uncalled for. I sent e-mails to all of my classmates with the file attached. Even if the file is in ".wpd" and can't be downloaded, they could have e-mailed me about it! And people have, and they were the ones that showed up! But out of the two days in which they could have prepared, there was a huge majority of students that didn't show that day. Lazy... PEOPLE! Even the person that was presenting after me was pissed off. Oh, and the professor... I don't even want to think how he felt about the participants who chose to ditch class.

Apalling.

However, I did an excellent presentation! My professor was pleased in me (though, aside from the students having been absent from class, was also displeased by the many syntax errors I have on my paper :(). Still, I did a great job, and held my own as someone explaining the writing process that came into the production of the essay.

I later celebrated with my smoking buddies at this college with two large blunts. French Vanilla flavor. Whether or not it is a worthy reward for my work in putting footbag into an essay and expressing leniency in presenting it, I don't know. It's definitely not good, health wise, but heck, I wanted to relax and wanted something to help me ease myself. If I didn't feel so stressed lately, I wouldn't have chosen this option.

That's the extent of my human will, I guess.

Since after my ankle injury, I've been in a huge footbag depression. It was weird. I didn't want to think about footbag, do any stitching, watch vids or even go on modified too often. I always hand-rolled my bags whenever I see them, not as a necessity to breaking them in but as the only activity I can manage with them.

Tonight was my first real footbag session in a long time. I played in my usual footbag gear, with the exception of my cushioned running socks, and I tried to hit what I could. My clippers were somewhat consistent, but I guess my left ankle still needs more time to heal. I hit one whirl pretty clean, which I don't do very often, so I found that as an achievement. If I school on them in 20 minutes or so tonight, I could keep my consistency. Atomics felt good, but again my left ankle needs more healing time to get more accurate sets. Surprisingly, paradons don't feel very painful on my left ankle. Pixies felt AMAZING. Holy shit, that's the one move that went through my mind like crazy since my 1.5 month hiatus. I was like "I'm going to bsos pixies when I get better" when I was sitting on my ass the whole time with OCD, and it felt good to hit them clean today. I just need to concentrate on how strong I do them, or it goes into ducking height. :P Oh, and I almost hit paradox whirl. 8)

Drew gave me some bags to repair and refill . I'm going to be extra busy with stitching this week.

I talked to this really cute girl for the first time in my class yesterday. We were both kind of aware of each other the whole semester, and it was odd that we finally talked near the end of it, but everything seemed cool. We got a great connection. We were watching a film ("The Road to Guantanamo Bay") and she kept on asking me questions and giving me comments about the film and all. We also talked a bit after class, I think, until a friend of mine suddenly appeared and cock-blocked me. He's a good kid, but lay off guy? :P J/k. I'm sure if I talked to her again, we can get to know each other much more.

Other than that, I've been chillin' in the cold NYC weather.
