Maine, it's only connected to one other state so it must be the last one he visits.

rob is correct. He can't end up in the state he started in because then he would have traveled in it twice.

Omnicriz wrote:A man lives on the west coast of the US. He gets a job as a traveling salesman, and is required to travel to all 48 states on the continental US. Here's the catch, he is only allowed to travel to each state once. What state does he end up in?

He can't end up in the state he started in because then he would have traveled in it twice.
Actually, Peter is correct.

Here are the obvious reasons why:
Omnicriz's riddle specifically says that the salesman is required to travel "to" all 48 states and that he is only allowed to travel "to" each state once. In Omnicriz's response however he states that he would have traveled "in" it twice. If traveling "in" a state more than once were the stipulation then it would be wrong because in every state he has to travel "in" it once to enter, get to his destination, and then travel "in" it again to leave the state.
In addition there is no mention as to method of travel. If the salesman drives that's all well and good, but it is reasonable to assume that a salesman who has to go to all 48 States could choose to fly (hell I would). If he flies then the only state he could travel "to" that he has not already traveled "to" would be the state he started from.

I'm going to suspend the asking of the next riddle, until Omnicriz has a chance to consider the correct response again. I'm not saying that you MUST agree with me, but you need to look at the question and answers again and decide who had the correct answer.
If you decide to stick with your original choice then that's fine.

I see you point Brad, but I feel I have to stick with my original and intended answer. Here's why:

Because of the poor wording on my part, it doesn't mean Peter's submitted answer is correct. The man could have traveled from CA up to OR and back 'to' CA and continue his journy. So in reality due to the wording, any state could be accepted. Rob was first to answer so i'll give it to him. Also, Peter and Rob both understood where I was going with the question and figured it was traveling via ground because of the 'continental US.'

Sorry for any confusion, i'll try not to post riddles at 6 in the morning anymore.

All right then, here's one I read somewhere,

What lies in bed, and stands in bed.
First white, then red.
The plumper it gets, the better the old women likes it.

damn brad, i really didn't want to guess that, but I'm glad you did (and i hope you're right...) I just sorta assumed that this riddle was one of those "sounds like a dick but isn't" riddles... i could be wrong... anybody heard the joke:

what's 16 inches long and makes a woman scream in bed?

answer: crib death

ps - definitely not a guess!

The great Sultan Ibn-al-Kuz of Quasiababia was sitting in his treasury chamber
looking with satisfaction at twelve large leather bags lined up along the wall.
The bags contained large silver coins representing taxes collected by his
emissaries in the twelve provinces he ruled. The name of the emissary of the
particular province was clearly written on each bag. Each coin weighed a full
pound, and since all the bags were almost full, there was a lot of silver.

Suddenly, a man dressed in rags was brought in by the guards and fell on his
knees before the sultan. "Majesty," exclaimed the man, raising his hand, "I
have a very important thing to tell you."
"Speak, then," said Ibn-al-Kuz.
"I am in the employ of one of your emissaries and I want to report his great
treason and crime toward you. All the coins in the bag he sent to you are
underweight by one ounce. In fact, I was one of the workers who rubbed the
coins with rough cloth, taking one ounce of silver from each of them . Since
my master wronged me, I have decided to let you know the truth."
"Who is your master?" asked Ibn-al-Kuz, frowning. "I swear to Allah that he
will be decapitated tomorrow, and you will get a rich reward!"
"He is..." began the man.
At this moment, a dagger thrown by an unknown hand whistled through the air,
and the man fell dead with the dagger sticking out of his back.
It might seem an easy matter to find which of the twelve bags contained the
underweight coins, provided that the sultan owned reasonably precise scales,
which could distinguish between regular 16-ounce coins and the molested coins
which weighed only 15 ounces. In fact, the sultan did have such scales, and
very fancy ones at that. He had them custom-made by a fine instrument
manufacturer in the United States of America, and they were modeled upon the
regular weighing machines which one finds practically everywhere in this highly
industrialized country. There was a platform to step on and a slot in which to
drop a penny, and instead of showing the weight on a dial the machine printed a
ticket giving the exact weight in pounds and ounces, complete with fortune on
the back. The trouble was, however, that among all the coins in his
possession, Sultan Ibn-al-Kuz had only one American copper penny. He could put
any assortment of silver coins from all the bags on the platform, but he could
get only a single answer on the printed ticket for the total weight of that
assortment

I think i've figured it out.

The Sultan assigns numbers to each of the bags from 1-12. Then from each bag he takes X number of coins where X is the number on the bag. So he takes 1 coin from bag 1, 2 from bag 2, ect. Then he puts all the coins on the scale. Since it should way 78 lbs or 1248 oz., he then takes the coins actual weight subtracted from the should be weight. The number he gets will be the same number on the bag of the tampered coins. If bag one had the bad coins, then the scale would read 1247 oz. If bag 12 was bad, then the scale would read 1236 oz.

The wave, over the wave, a weird thing I saw,
through-wrought, and wonderfully ornate:
a wonder on the wave - water became bone.
