Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
I didn't know about the Express, I have hit that a couple of times. I mentioned a page or two back it should be called Altitude Sickness as it is alpine motion sickness. ..
Not too much kicking the last days. I got my first 50 plus tiltless for the year, 63. I am not bringing back the Lavers or the blue shoes, they are both beyond repair. Bit disappointed to do that, but I have some more Lavers at home.
Jay has put up some interesting ideas about judging. I think they are all quite reasonable and that executing them could help add an extra level if professionalism to the major comps.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
We have returned to Canberra. Back at work today, but it's been a day of easing back into things. We had a couple of days in Sydney where it was quite hot. I have been suffering with the jetlag so after hours of not being able to sleep I went for a run at 5am. I was hoping to see a sunrise but it was very cloud (it eventually warmed to 40 degrees).

Here is a short video from that time. I came across a new park, which has been transferred from being a BP (petrol) site to a park with views to the harbour. Nice place. I was kicking in those shoes I mentioned that I got for Christmas (Courtvantage). Not great for kicking but not so bad either. I am getting a bit more used to them. I might order a pair of the heavier Lavers, they might be a bit less prone to getting a mega crack in the sole.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Just had a short session in the dinner break. First time putting on Lavers since coming back to Australia. Considering we are only a few days back, that's no big deal.
Came close to 5 fearless - phoenix>bl whirl>spin duck butter>spin duck osis> then drop on pdx blender. That sort of came out the blue as I wasn't really getting a lot of consistency on any tricks, a couple of runs around 15-18 contacts guiltless. The last run of the session was better, 30 contacts, guess I was starting to get into the groove, then I had to finish. I think I might try for a proper session tomorrow. It's been pretty hot here so far on returning so hasn't been conducive to proper sessions, just sweat from walking around.
I have been watching a few vlogs lately, I really like the one from Felix, and I enjoyed a couple of freestyle football ones from PWG. Adam Greenwood has one too, which has been enjoyable seeing him check out Australia. Hope to meet him in the near future. I am considering starting one of my own.

I want to try for some fearless too. I hit 10 before, which was one of the most rewarding feelings I have experienced. I haven't been practicing fearless, but think that sooner than later I will start thinking more seriously about it. I believe the link was:boyle wrote: 15 Jan 2017 00:20 Came close to 5 fearless - phoenix>bl whirl>spin duck butter>spin duck osis> then drop on pdx blender.

Is that something that is doable for you?

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
in short, no. My flip blurry whirl is not very good and my flip double downs are hopeless.
I am currently just trying to up my current record of 5, but my pipe dream combos (using reasonably achievable moves from my current vocab) for a 10 may be...
phoenix>fog>pixie paradon>spin duck butterfly>spin duck osis>pdx blender>locomotion>motion>tomahawk>spinning whirl
while I'm dreaming I might write down some other possibilities. I can hit all these tricks but some of them are much less consistent than others.
phoenix>bl whirl>matador>spinning whirl>spin duck butterfly>motion sickness>tomahawk>mobius>blurriest>spin duck osis>ps whirl - that one might even be 11.
I guess I need to start working on a fresh combo to work out of the style of combos I have done already. I think also maybe putting the spinning ducking tricks in different parts of the combo could work out well, it's something I've generally been putting into each combo together. This part of your combo could work ok for me, maybe.
ps whirl > p torque > p blender > motion
I also need to work further down the chain on a lot of tricks going to my right clipper. Double downs and pdx whirls in particular. Also if I get some spinning ducking stuff a bit better on that side, that could be something interesting to work with. There is also double spinning, but that's pretty hard to get in a combo into another big trick.
I didn't play at all today. Hot again and I was working by myself so I didn't get to go outside for a break. I think I will just go to sleep once I get home. I tried to stay awake a bit later to assist with the jetlag. I woke up at 530 but then I went back to sleep for a while.
I had signed up to volunteer at a conference that sounded quite cool. Except that I realised just now the first day I had signed up for was this morning. Oops. I am booked into to volunteer tomorrow, but I don't know if I am up to it. Hopefully I come back to some reasonably form of living before I have to go back to uni, which is still some weeks away.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Today was a good day for me and footbag. I went for the first time this year to the tennis court where I have put a few clips on Instagram. It's just down the road from Nico's daycare so when I drop him off I wander down there for a kick. Usually I don't have to work until afternoon, so there's not too much hurry about things.
The court is very old and dilapidated, so there's very rarely anyone playing tennis there. It also had one court in the shade today, so that suited me just fine.
I don't think the Instagram plugin is working, but let's give it a try. If you couldn't be bothered looking - darkwalk>spin duck butterfly>spinning ducking osis>motion>pdx blender
[instagram]https://www.instagram.com/p/BPWCiFjFQvD[/instagram]
This is one of the same combos I have previously done for a 5 fearless, but the last two tricks were switched. I've been thinking that I need to work on some tricks that will land on my right toe that I can then start a combo like that. I don't have anything particularly strong there though. In reality I might not have any tricks for that purpose. I can hit a bunch that land on left toe. So that's something to work on. Things like spikehammer, bs blur, ducking ps mirage, spinning ducking mirage, ducking pdx dlo. In reality I don't think I have much strength in any of those tricks, so it may be better to just keep starting on the toe.
My first run at that place was 21 contacts, straight of the bat, just drop the bag down to a clipper and go for it. I seem to always hit quite good things there. I don't know if there's anything special about the space, but it works well for me.
I had some other highlights in the session, with a couple of combos going from 5>6 tricks. In that last post with some hypothetical combos I mentioned motion sickness like way down the line in a long combo, which is probably a bit of a stretch, but I started working on that combo.
ducking pdx mirage>pixie motion
spinning ducking butterfly>motion sickness
Another milestone was to hit my first 6 bs. I hit pixie motion on flipside for the first time, then did it on the other side as well. Pleased with that, that flip motion is something I've been working on. I've read others (probably Justin Dale mainly) saying they feel they don't turn enough of motion, and I feel that on that side. I think on my good side there is plenty of turn, but it's nowhere near that amount on the other side.
That wasn't all the milestones for the day. Let's just say I knocked off one of my goals for the year, and you can see it in this video. The light is really bad, but good enough to see the action.
[instagram]https://www.instagram.com/p/BPW88-UAtGT[/instagram]
I have also completed my first vlog. I left it uploading when I left for work, so I should put that out tomorrow. FFO shred in front of snow capped mountains, below average quality editing. I'm not sure how often I will try to put them out. I think once a week is probably pushing it, maybe every fortnight, or simply when I feel like.
What I'm really pleased about in many things in this post is that I have recently said: I would like to do x, and now this post is me checking off those boxes. So that's good. I'm still a bit disappointed in myself about that conference, but having ticked off some goals, instead of standing in the sun for hours for a free lunch, I'm not as concerned.
Really stoked on footbag today though. Hoping to have a session in Sydney on the weekend as well, which would be really great. We're staying a couple of days near the beach, so a beach/beer session would do me just fine. I've also got heaps of days coming up off work. I work on Thursday morning and then I don't have to be back at work until late at night the following Wednesday, so that's a nice long break considering that I just had 6 weeks off.

I'm really excited about footbag at the moment, I feel progress at the moment, I'm quite often hitting tricks that I probably never thought that I would. Which makes me think that maybe I should push to go to Worlds. Seeing all those pictures from the NYJ had the thought that it could be a cool trip. I would be interested to go to an overseas event that's not Worlds.

So I mentioned in the last post that I had a vlog ready to go, so here it is.
We are going to Sydney tomorrow for about 4 days so I'm planning that the next vlog will be in relation to that trip. I hope the weather cools down a bit though, I think there needs to be a fairly major storm for thins to drop down.
No footbag today, I wasn't feeling like going out in the heat. I'm really tired as well, so hopefully tonight I can have a good sleep. I think I will be in bed around the same time as Nico...

Played a little bit yesterday. Was a little bit interrupted by rain...spikehammer bsos probably the top highlight. Hit some good runs of 20-30 contacts.
Went to see Alexisonfire two nights, good to see them again. Although I did start by going to the wrong venue, which wasn't the best idea. Got there right on time for them to start though.

I got in a session with Ryan and Dyalan yesterday, that was pretty good. I had some good long runs, over 30 contacts. I hit 5 fearless a couple of times but now that's not enough, I need more.
Spikehammer>phoenix> spin duck butter> spin duck osis> pdx blender was a new arrangement of things and may give some possibilities for the future.
The other guys haven't played so much lately but they were hitting some cool tricks. Sounds like they are both keen to kick a little more regularly this year.
Went and saw Nick Cave last night, very good show. I am going to make a new vlog about this weekend away we have had, I have a few cool videos, some footbag and plenty of general scenery as well.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Here's a post from work at 5:30am. My shift is coming to an end, I'm on the graveyard shift. I don't feel I have kicked too much lately. I kicked a couple of days back at that tennis court, but the magic wasn't working. I did start well, with a 35 contact run straight of the bat, but I had some thoughts about longer fearless combos, and didn't do the adequate preparation to be getting that level. Probably got some 4 fearless combos, but I don't remember any of them from the top of my head.
I was thinking about tricks I could do that land on that right toe, and started thinking of some new ideas. I got dimwalk xbd rake, but I couldn't hit anything out of it. I put up a new vlog too. I will put that one in my next post, there's a bit of footbag in that after the weekeend in Sydney.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
I have spent a fair chunk of time in recent sessions trying fearless. The sessions have been quite short, so I guess that works, but because I haven't got the results it's been a bit unfulfilling.
Had a session at the tennis court after working the night shift and dropping off Nico at daycare. Despite the lethargy in my body, I woke it up with a 47 contact guiltless run to finish things off. Came close to hitting a couple of atomic ducking tricks. I have just hit alpine legbeater maybe twice ever, so that's something to work on.
Just kicked today for a short time in my break. Not really anything to report, as I was working on fearless but mainly failing. Had a very pleasant morning at the swimming pool, it was my niece's birthday so we spent the time there. It's been hot lately, so I've been to the pool a couple of times this week.
The Amity Affliction are playing tonight, there are a few people staying at the hostel who are going. I haven't got a ticket, but I might have a look from outside after I finish my shift. At that venue you can usually see in through the window, so I'll give that a look.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Well well well, one month of this year already down. Glad to get a session in with Ryan and Dyalan, that's a tick to one of my goals for the year, which is to play with someone every month. Seems like a minimal goal, but it's harder than it sounds in these parts. I talked to Caroline the other day, she's in Brisbane now with a new job and really enjoying it up there. Sounds very busy. Dianne, who I met last year, she had surgery over the summer and the recovery hasn't gone as well as planned, so haven't been able to kick with her yet. I will have to get in touch with Mr Cope for a catch up soon enough.
I don't think I posted these next two vlogs on here. The second vlog was from our trip to Sydney to see Nick Cave and I also saw Alexisonfire, the more recent one is from the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina. I got some footbag, but none it was particularly impressive. I also did not drop it in the freezing cold water like I did last time I went to a glacier, which is an improvement.
I went on a quick trip down to Bega yesterday, it was a long way to go for a short time, but I played quite a bit. I think I hit ingyro blender, but I'm not even sure. I get pretty confused with spinning tricks. It's basically spender from the opposite foot, but I don't think that would get paradox. I don't know really, but it was a pretty cool trick. Got some good runs for the next vlog, which I already started working on. I have managed to pop out one a week so far, which I don't really expect to keep up, but it has been a fun little project.
Down near Bega, we went to a jump rock, but I was quite lucky, I could have had quite a bad accident, I slipped just at the point of jumping so I had to kick off the rock quite hard. This has meant the bottom of my heel is quite sore, but I think that will go away, better than some of the other options. My Dad once had to be carried out of another place with a pretty serious injury. So a bit of a sore foot is not too much to worry about, not at this stage anyway, I kicked a bit after doing it and it seemed ok, but haven't done much on it today.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Pretty good session today, at the tennis courts of course. I have myself into a bit of a routine, which I'm wondering if it is actually a good or bad thing, going to shred is definitely good, but so much of the day seems to be a bit of a repeat. That's ok though. Trying to keep spending low as I'm still recovering for taking some extra time off with no pay.
Anyway, back to the session.
Some new tricks in there. In particular
[instagram]https://www.instagram.com/p/BP_K_lwlonE[/instagram]
Ducking paradox torque. That one came kind of out of nowhere. I've seen Nick Polini hit some bigger torque stuff and I thought maybe I could give that a crack. In reality my pdx torque is not even very good, so it was a pleasant surprise to hit that.
stepping diving ss mirage. I actually had been trying to do stepping diving pdx mirage, can't remember if I actually hit that in the end, but I put a step out of place and ended up like that.
inspinning ducking osis I'm not sure about this one. I think I got this on camera, like I have mentioned, I don't completely "get" spins, but I think this is right, and a new trick. (right foot clipper, spin into the bag, duck under, osis). Sounds about right.
Worked on some fearless, had a foot on a 5, but nothing solid there. Was trying to do some at the end when I was really tired and sore, surprise surprise, it didn't work.
I "unearthed" that old footage of Vasek hitting 23 fearless after Jim P hit 22 on video. The link to it was right here on Modified, it wasn't too hard to find. Both are pretty awesome feats, I can appreciate it more now that I'm starting to work on my own fearless links and get towards beating the 5 mark. That will come soon.
I've got my next vlog ready, from my trip down the coast. I won't put that out until next week, as I think putting out multiple ones per week will set the bar to high to keep up with. It came out quite well, with some good footbag runs.
Anyway, back to the session.

stepping diving ss mirage.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Had a bit of a weird session today, wasn't really feeling playing, but I went by the tennis courts so I had a kick around. Best run was 30 contacts. Hit ducking motion, not sure if I've hit that since the first time I got it, one of a bunch of new tricks I hit while I was in Chile. It's been quite cool, a lot of the old Aussie players have commented on that vid of ducking pdx torque I put up, would be nice to see them back in action.
Adam Greenwood just posted he is going to be in Sydney this coming week. I'm not sure if I will be able to go up and meet him, it would be quite cool. Not sure if it will work out though. Not sure if I want to do another express journey this week, already did that last week. I do actually have a flight to Melbourne but I don't think I will use that. I bought it for $20 on a deal, just the one way and haven't sorted anything for that, so I will just let that one pass.
I had a crack at shred 30 for the first time in a while. I didn't get any good ones on film, but the one I did first go, before I started filming was:
dimwalk>blur>dimwalk>blur>parkwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>butterfly>diving clipper>ducking clipper>spinning ducking clipper>ducking clipper>diving butterfly>ducking butterfly>diving butterfly>ducking butterfly>ducking clipper (rpt)>drop on butterfly- serve into butterfly>whirl>spinning clipper>spinning butterfly>spinning osis>drop on motion I'm not sure if that would have been time up, but I went for a phoenix too, also dropped. It was good to get the flow, but in the end the score on that wouldn't be so good, too many drops and a repeat in there. Where I did the repeated duck is meant to be a torque.
I was thinking on the walk back, if I could hit all the 6s I have now hit together, I would be able to get in for a pretty good run (unfortunately I am still at one 6>6 combo, so it's not really in the thoughts)
but this was the combo of tricks I have hit before which I might be able to link into other ones
backside spikehammer>pixie motion>ducking motion>food processor>locomotion>mullet>motion sickness>alpine blurry whirl>spender>whirlygig>locomotion>diving motion>mindbender>zulu motion
obviously I would probably drop after the first trick, but it's nice to dream

New vlog
There's a fair chunk of footbag in this one, I went down to Bega last week and just filmed whatever happened along the way. Although I didn't include when I picked up some pretty rough looking hitchikers. They ended up being really nice blokes who had had some car troubles, so hopefully there is some good karma in giving them a ride. They weren't going to far either, so that was all fine.
I played today as well, and that might go in a future vlog. Went out to the river, first to this enormous pedestrian bridge located in the middle of nowhere, I'm not sure what it's all about, but it's more than 20 metres high and of course there was nobody there using it. But hopefully kicking on that looked cool.
I hit fairy motion for the first time in a while. Did a very long run with a lot of different ducking tricks. Took me a while to get into the groove today, started of with lethargic legs, not being able to do anything.
I worked an overtime shift at work today, just to help out with an event. I also got a number of beers at the end, so it was really worthwhile going in. On top of a free dinner as well, so that counts as a successful day.
One of my goals for the year was to kick with an international player. That's going to be met tomorrow, unfortunately it's going to be about 40 degrees, so we might have to kick at the river.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
Had a cool kick today with Janis Thal from Germany. Actually it wasn't cool at all, it was 40 degrees, but we played in some shade by the river, then jumped straight in the river afterwards, so that worked pretty well. He hit some cool stuff, some good drifter related tricks, whirling swirl, some nuclear stuff.
He said there are not too many people very active in Germany at the moment either, same sort of thing as here. Everyone is growing old together, not many new players, etc.
I hit stepping ss torque, which I haven't done for a while. Came close to alpine food, haven't got that one yet but I don't think it's too far off. Nice to kick with someone else, it's not such a common experience these days. It was really great to jump into the river though straight afterwards. I just kept my shirt on to not get sunburn, it was dry pretty much straight away after jumping out.

41 degrees today, didn't stop the shred. Although maybe it would have been a good idea to not play. We had a pretty short session in front of the garage, which is under shade. Nicolas was playing around near where we were, so there was some extra hazards with that. Janis hit ducking drifter (that's vertigo, isn't it?), that was probably the trick highlight of the session. My last run was 44 contacts, which was close to match the temperature. I hit a motion sickness midrun, that was probably my other highlight.
It may be raining tomorrow, but if not we might go and play disc golf. I've never actually done it, but there is a course here in Canberra, so that could be fun. I am hoping things can work out and I might be able to go to Sydney during the week and meet up with Adam Greenwood, would be cool to do that too.

Re: Canberra, Australia via SCL - Daniel Boyle
A bit cooler today. The day started off pretty hot still, so we went over and met Copey for a shred, and he has a pool so we splashed in that. Hopefully will get more shreds going there. I was pretty impressed with Copey, he probably hasn't played in about a year, but he hit stuff like eggbeater, bs smear, had a few pretty good runs.
I had some close things, close to spinning pdx eggbeater, close to alpine food, but I didn't have much that actually stuck. We played a game of horse and Janis actually won in the end. He hit gyro dyno as one of the later tricks. I can't even do dyno so was no chance on that.
I hadn't been to Copey's place yet, Dyalan mentioned it was pretty good when we last kicked, and a pool is a handy thing to have when the weather has been like the past week. Will be a bit cooler then next days, so that's some nice variety. I kicked for a short time during my break, and feeling the cool breeze was a nice difference. 34 contact run was the best for the evening time.
