Hi, my name is Nick and one fact about myself is that I abhor Family Guy. Ken, do you mind editing your top post to something less aggravating? It's honestly going to annoy the living shit out of me if I have to see that post every time I try to blog.

Anyway, quick post. Made a video today (from yesterday) and then had a drill session tonight.

Video:

I have to keep watching my form, because I've been alerted recently by 2 good players that I need to stop hunching.

Drilled tonight:

 Blender> Stepping Clipper 5x bs
 Blender> Stepping Clipper *rpt
 Blender> Blur BSOS
 Dope combo: Spinning Ducking Osis> Spinning Muted Reverse Swirl bs
 Made more progress with Pdx Whirls. Had some that actually felt good.
 Drilled some Barflies and DDD's.. some good progress on Barfly bs.
 Ender run: Blender> Rev Swirl *rpt> Pdx Whirl b2b> Rev Swirl> Infinity *rpt> Rev Swirl> Swirl> Infinity *rpt

Pretty pleased with my improvements tonight. One step at a time.

Great picture, Ben haha And yes, Ken, much better. I appreciate that haha

Ok, so I posted this on Facebook:

"Yo! Attention all beginner to intermediate (and maybe some advanced) footbag players! I just experienced a total game changer!
A while ago, players would tell me to stop hunching. I did… well I stopped hunching a lot and my game got better just from that..

Then with the new footage I posted, I thought my form was fine (although something didn't quite look right to me in the back of my head)… I really want to thank 2 players that messaged me and told me that I was still hunching just the slightest bit, even though I thought I fixed it a while back (Thanks Evan "StandStraightsman" Gatesman and Kevin Crowley!)

I went out and practice all of my basics with a ridiculously plank-like back posture and EVEN BASICS felt easier all of the sudden! Then I tried some normal shred stuff and I was amazed that all the tricks I was recently struggling with got way better

Point of this post: Try your next session with a super straight back, like shoulders back and back almost arched! I'm telling you, you'll thank yourself! I'm interested to see any feedback on this from beginner to intermediate level players."

I was so stunned at how much just standing totally rigid, like a plank is taped to your back, really improves your game. I practiced all the basic tiltless x10 contacts on both sides or repeating with plank posture.

Stuff just got way easier tonight with this method. My Blender x10 goal actually feels very attainable soon. Same with Atom x10. Did the most effortless Atom x4 in my life tonight with plank posture. Swirling Mirage on flip was easy butter balls. I have a few highlights and some footage:

Highlights:

 Plank posture run with Double Spinning Clipper BSOS & Gyro Reverse Swirl BSOS
 Gyro Blink> Far Blink> Near Blink> Far Reverse Swirl bs (Video below) "Blink Links #1"
 Gyro Blink> Far Blink> Far Blink bs (Video below) "Blink Links #2"
 Had one run where Gyro Reverse Swirl> Spinning Reverse Swirl with plank posture felt OH TOO SMOOTH
 The Barflies look like Barflies :D

Going to try to practice just tiltless and kickless this week to really solidify the trickle-up effect with plank posture.

Funny thing about my posture that I was just thinking about… I was a skateboarder for most of my childhood and into around age 18, so I had a slouch/hunch for years and years. I feel like most skaters do. Nadine even told me she could tell I was a skater when she first saw me because I hunched a bit when I walked. Nice job, me

Anyway, when I was younger, my mom would always pester me to "walk like I'm proud of myself", "stand straight and be proud", "stop slouching", etc… you get the point. I always ignored her because… she's my mom. That's what kids are supposed to do :P I really wish I would have listened to her.

Speaking of my mom, funny story about her today. Went to get ice cream and she didn't have her bifocals on and she was trying to read the menu.. "WHAT'S COOKIE DOUCHE?!!", she exclaimed. "That says Cookie Dough, mom". Nice job, mom.

Might as well tell what my dad's been up to. My dad has been acting senile with the cats. The other day, he walks into the living room and pets Panther, saying, "We're gonna collect your fur soon and make clothing." I died. Then tonight, my mom was watching The Bachelorette, which I despise, and my dad looks at Panther for a minute and says, "Panther thinks this is the worst show on television." I died again. My dad is hilarious. Some of you met him at my Gradionships. He loved you footbaggers who he personally chilled with by the fire, by the way.

Father.. Dad… Father's Day! I was going to post some pictures from father's day. My dad and I went birding at Middle Creek and had a baller time. Here are some pictures from that day, then I go to bed:

We set up the spotting scope facing a pond near a meadow clearing and sat on a blanket while we scoped the area. Great times:

Image

…And this is the man, himself. The Dad:

Image

We both agreed that it was the best Father's Day yet.

Might as well post some cool pictures from the day before that when I went birding/herping/mushroom hunting with Nadine. I meant to post these a while ago, but things take time:

We thought it was cool how there was an owl face on this memorial sculpture and on my shirt:

Image

The next few are some cool varieties of fungi we found (Disclaimer: Nadine is the fungidentifier, I do the birds and herps.. I don't know the species names of these, because Nadine keeps that shit confidential :P I'll find out soon I hope):

Image
Image
Image
Image

Had some bird pictures, but they are a little blurry and Kenny Shultz puts me to shame on Aves photography anyway lol

Herps! Found a bunch, but I'm only going to post the best one. They were all Northern Duskies except for 1 Red Back, which I didn't get a picture of:

Northern Dusky:

Lastly, my hiking/nature partner and me next to the creek where we herped:

And there you have it, almost every aspect of my life. Boom. Sorry if you find the fungi pictures "sporing" :D I'm just a "fun guy"!

Whoa, hey new big Modified. I'll have to get used to it, but I think it's cool so far.

Session tonight. Plank posture. Plank posture yields great things.

Highlights:

 DDD BSOS 2nd time ever
 Near Swivel BSOS! (first time sauce!)
 Near Symposium Blink BSOS! (first time sauce!)
 Near Monster BSOS a bunch of times. Tough, but getting easier. Can you tell, I was inspired by Ianek's new video?? :P
 Twirl x7!!! and I didn't even try that hard, just used plank-posture! :D That is the secret to all shred. Considering I hit 5 last week with a ton of energy and struggle, now I got 7 without really trying?? It's the plank posture.
 Twirl> Near Monster one side :/ Flipside kept trying to make my legs do Twirl> Reverse Twirl which I hit once by accident, but also almost killed myself with bad footwork several times :P

Plank-Posture. I swear on it. Try it for yourself. Most controlled I've ever felt.

Also Brandon Turner and I are doing an experiment with this during the next 2 weeks.

Just talked to Pipenberg on the phone for about 40 minutes. Great chat. I miss that dude. He wants to come visit PSU around December though, so I really look forward to seeing him, hanging out with him, and shredding with him.

Haven't played for a few days. Knee pain and shin splints. Ugh. Finally the shin splints are gone and the knee pain actually went away today. I admit that this session was not one of my most brilliant ideas since I just got off of a minor injury and I came back by doing Symposium Reverse Swirly tricks… but I listened to my body and my body told me these agreed with it. However, Double Downs did not and I think thats why my knee hurt. It was only my right knee, too, which I've been throwing Barfly with quite a bit in recent videos. I need to work on the base of DD's, which is Illusions. Apparently, my Illusions are still not satisfactory, or else I don't think I would have knee pain. Keeping it in a brace with ice for a bit, just to be safe.

Anyway, session today was filled with new tricks. I feel like this wasn't ADD hunting, though, because they all came relatively easily and within only a few tries or 1 try.

Highlights video:

These were all inspired by Ianek Regimbald, except for the Twirls, which were inspired by Jay Boychuk. He challenged me to hit Twirl x6 a while ago and it's awesome to realize that I totally blew that number out of the water :)

Weekend with Nadine starting in an hour or so. We're going to Canal Day, which is this huge celebration of the Schuylkill Canal, which happens to be about 500 ft from my house. So we're probably going to spend the whole day kayaking tomorrow. Should be a lot of fun. Always has been.

Bye!

That actually means a lot to me :) I'm glad my post inspired you, Allan "Fucking Awesome At Footbag" Haggett to go shred. By the way, what was your BAP name?

Spent the morning and afternoon with Nadiah at Canal Day. Lots of fun was had. Then when she left, I talked to Hogan for a bit and we both decided to go have a session. I went out and tried to hit some strings. Couldn't hit anything to save my life. Strings were short and blah. Honestly almost felt like quitting. I put in all this time and then stop for a few days to heal myself, then my legs forget how to do everything. Really? So I decided I would try to hit a link 3x bs and I did that...

 Gyro Reverse Swirl> Pdx Drifter 3x bs

I then went inside, not really happy with my session at all and feeling like I accomplished nothing.

I was going to just do something else to take my mind off of how bad the session was, then I remembered that it was my first session in a few days and I just had to brush the rust off a bit before returning full speed. So I got the idea in my head to marathon 1000 Infinities. I realized this was stupid and I needed to dig deeper. So I figured I might as well drill the shit out of Tiltless. I marathonned 100 Mirages bs, then 100 ss Mirages, then Illusions… Holy bung hole… Illusions??? They're this bad still??? I couldn't believe how bad I was with them. I got like 7 then dropped. So upsetting. I thought to myself that it would be embarrassing to be at a tournament and try doing Illusions publicly… So I wanted to focus my entire session on them and I did. I figured out how to fix my form on them and hit them more efficiently… here's what I ended up with:

 Toe op Illusion: Strong: 13, Flip: 16
 Toe ss Illusion: 21

I also realized that my knee was in pain because my double downs suck and my double downs suck because my Illusions suck. So my goal for the next month is to push Illusions to around 50 with ease. Then and only then am I letting myself attempt double downs or any other illusion tricks.

Here are some fun pictures from today:

Like I said, today was Canal Day. Nadiah and I had a really fun time. She wasn't feeling up to kayaking, so I had the idea to tie a rope onto my kayak and tug her in a raft behind me. It worked out well… for her. I had to paddle and stuff, while Nadiah just chilled there :P

Image

And at my session tonight, I took a break to give Vince Richardson a critique on his Legovers and when I was ready to get back to drilling after my short break, I see that I had a little hitchhiker on my Laver…

Image

Some of you may think this is repulsive, but I love slugs. They're adorable. Look at his cute little slime trails he left on my shoe :3

Actually, these slugs are pretty incredible. They are called Leopard Slugs and they are hermaphrodites. The mating ritual is pretty crazy too. The 2 slugs circle and lick each other for a while, then climb into a tree, hug each other and use their mucus almost as a rope to lower themselves to the ground. Once this is complete, they pull out their dicks, exchange sperm and then each one lays eggs.

Anyway, that was my day. Lots of fun with Nadiah, not so much fun with footbag, then a break, then fun with hermaphroditic slugs and more footbag but more of a positive and hopeful attitude that time.

No prob, dawg. Slug trivia is the best trivia! And if you puke through your nose, you score 5 bonus puke points.

Haven't been blogging, because, well, several reasons… 1) I feel like when I post a bunch of stuff every day, it's hard for people to keep up with everything, so I figured I'd only post every few sessions now 2) I've just been solo drilling recently and I feel like thats a boring post to read.

However, I assure you, this post won't be boring.

I'll get to my highlights, but first check this video out. Pretty sick stuff.

Anyway, I had a lot of sessions since my slug post. All of them were pretty great. However all but 2 of them were solo drill sessions.

Really getting consistent with Atomic sets. Finally. It feels so good to hit them well now. Also getting consistent with Symposium Rev Swirl tricks. I try to do a few every session now. As I said, I've been trying to school the living shrimp jumbalaya balls out of 4 concepts a month. It's really working well. I love this method. Copy me and school 4 concepts per month, and you won't be sorry. My 4 for July are Swirling sets, Pdx DLO, Double Spinning, and Reverse Swirls. All of them are feeling pretty good already. Some better than others.

Yesterday, I had a session with Nathan Bonslaver, Jeremy, Corey, and Nathan's friend, Ricky, who was surprisingly good for a beginner and his style reminded me so much of Dante Diotallevi's. Hope that kid sticks with it. Some cool strings went down. Everyone hit some cool stuff. Corey started standing straight and all of the sudden had so much more control and power and was hitting some surprising runs. Jeremy was killing it too. He was hitting some good tiltless stuff. Nathan's game looks so much better every time we kick. He surprised me with Near Blink BSOS and some other stuff but the Blink sauce was the most notable. He's getting very consistent. I had some ok stuff. Can't remember a ton of it but here we go…

Highlights:

 Run with Scorpion's Tail> Spinning Osis> some shuffle and stuff> Ripped Warror blah blah
 Dense run> Mobius> Mobius> more density. That run really felt fantastic. I forget what else I hit in it though. I think there was a Gyro Reverse Swirl somewhere in there, a Gyro DLO, and some Blenders.

Next day (today)… Had a duo session with Bonslaver. This was one for the Nick Polini history book. So many awesome strings and awesome links, not just from me… but DEFINITELY from Nathan. We developed "BSOD" today, which means "Both Sides One Day" (like, hit both sides for the first time, in the same day) because we had plenty! Before I get to highlights, I just wanna say how sick it is when a seasoned player teaches a newer player and the newer player starts to develop the teacher's style. Nathan is really starting to get incredible at some concepts I often use in my game and it's really impressive and just totally awesome to see in person. Read Nate's blog too (Nathan's Footblog), he'll be posting his highlights soon. I don't want to reveal any of them for him… ok, Twirl BSOD. Unreal, man. I've never seen anyone so young/playing for such a small amount of time that is able to learn Twirls. Anyway, check out his blog, PLEASE. This dude is one of the dudes to keep your eye on.

Highlights:

 Spender> Blur bs… I wonder if Kemmer could hit that… (By the way, this has been such a long term dream link for me. Ever since I saw Gatesman stepping out of difficult Pdx Blender tricks back in like 2009. That shit was not too hard either. Got strong side first try, flip in about 3 tries.
 Flipside Sunilwalker! First time hitting it on flipside! Kemmer has really inspired me to get good at Furious sets and they're coming along… but his are coming along better. Wait til you read his highlights.
 Flipside Janiwalker! First time I hit a clean one on flip!
 Mutilated a first try Fury> dope run.
 Toe Far Revup> ss Revup bs! That was a phat link. Couldn't believe it came so easily.
 Toe Far Reverse Swirl> Revup *rpt!!! I was astonished with I hand caught this one. My realm of possibility, as far as I knew it, was completely obliterated at this point and my brain had punched itself in the face many times.
 Full Symposium Blurry Blink! Wow. That was ridiculous. One side, but hell, good enough for me. Not going to be a regular thing (YET), but cool to hit once.
 Gyro Symposium Revup!!!! Holy fetus amigos. Did I really hit that? Yeah, I did. Nathan said it was clean. He wanted me to hit Symposium Revup because he loved how it looked in my last video, so I hit that for him yesterday, but figured I'd one-up it today, and I guess I did. Anyone else ever hit this one?
 This one was 50% for Kemmer and 50% for Bonslaver: Twirl> Blurry Drifter bs!!!!!!! Obvious why I dedicated 50-50 to those guys… This link felt so RIGHT in so may ways. I was so shocked I could hit it so easily. I need to work with this one more. Never seen anyone Blurry Drifter out of Twirl… I'm sure some could do it, just never seen it. It just feels phenomenal.
 Tapping DLO BSOD :P
 Blurry muted Twirl bs!!!!! I hit this one strong side around Thanksgiving. Tried it on flipside but ended up getting a minor nagging back injury for weeks. I said I'd work with the basic concepts and earn the right to hit it flipside… I got that right today. Nathan said both looked good. He was tweaking at all the bigger links I hit, which was awesome. I was also reciprocating the tweak-outs when he was hitting his stuff, so it evens out haha. It's funny, he tweaks out when big stuff is hit by himself or others, just like me. Too funny.
 Swirling Twirl bs (first time hitting flipside)

That's it. Finally. Sorry for the very long post. But, now you can see why this session was dope and went down as my best session, to date.

The quote to describe this session was "Props were given, and props were deserved"… This quote goes for both Nate and me. We both annihilated the air space surrounding the footbag tonight.

Really pleased where my game is right now.

Oh yeah… Life stuff… Parents got home from vacation today after a week of being at the beach.. I find out we're planning on trading in our johnboat to buy speed boat. That was the coolest news to hear right after my awesome session. The boat will be stored at our new campsite in Maryland. That starts August 1st. Anyone that wants to come down for a weekend, hit me up. We'll shred it up, do some boating, fishing, whatever… Also, along with this new news… I've kind of always wanted to wakeboard. I might buy one once we get the boat. I think that would be a lot of fun. So maybe add wake boarding to the list I just mentioned, too.

Listen... I devour footbag videos and footbag theory and information. I have a pretty good grasp on technical footbag terminology and understanding of what they mean. With that being said, I can barely wrap my mind around some of the stuff you were hitting in this post. Holy frick that someone is hitting these things because how do you get your brain to even process some of these tricks, and LINKING them to boot. FRICK!

Toe rev swirl>revup is an awesome combo. I can do that reasonably well on one side, nice work on getting both. The boating sounds fun too.

Thanks guys :)

Bob, wait til you get to 50 minutes and 30 seconds. The paint just kinda like stays really still. Pretty cool. Must see.

Mike, thanks for the compliments man. I've realized the same thing in recent days. I'm writing stuff that I could read in Ken's blog or Johnny's or Gatesman's in the past. It sucks though because, currently, there are no BAP players that keep a blog. Ken has one, but isn't technically BAP, which is really cool, in my opinion… Then Jay does keep one, but doesn't update a whole lot. But the fact that hardly any BAP players keep an active footblog is a little discouraging I think. If I ever get BAP, I'm going to keep posting in mine and break the trend.

Last night I had a really great session. I hit something that was 1 away from my long term goal, but I don't want to reveal it because… well… 1 away. Fuck that noise, grandma :D Anyway, I got 2 other highlights from that session…

Highlight:

 PLO> Atomic Legover *rpt This drill has always been literally impossible for me. Finally getting good enough at Atomics, that I can manage it. Not good at it, by any means, but I can hit it every few tries
 Tapping Legover x4 Broke my ld personal record by 2. Pretty happy about that because I tested myself and I passed. I hadn't tried Tapping Legovers for a month, then worked on Atomic all last month and now I have enough control to hit 4. Good feeling.

Then I came inside and talked to Matt Kemmer and Mike Angeski for a little… Kemmer gave me some tips on Quantums because I want to learn Furious better. I watched some slow mo from Matt doing some. Now I actually understood the tips. Then I watched him do Pdx Whirls in slow mo and I realized that my big problem with them was that I wasn't turning far enough into the dex!! So I decided to go back out at like 1 am and learn both… Sure enough my Pdx Whirls were finally good. They have never felt so crisp before on my bad side. I wasn't turning enough and that made me have to overcompensate at the end and have to force my leg down in a weird way. Now I turn a little more and my leg just comes down naturally, like everyone else's in the world. Oh and I had some highlights and luck with Quantums. I definitely cracked into them.

Highlights:

 Toe Blur 5x bs
 Slapping Mirage NOBS (New On Both Sides)
 Slapping Legover BSOS (not NOBS, but never hit them so nicely before)
 Quantum Pickup NOBS
 Quantum Legover bs (not NOBS, but also never hit so nicely before)
 Tried to end on Blur> Toe Blur BSOS but footed the final Toe Blur. I'm blaming it on exhaustion. Exhaustion, you're a dickhead. Go home.

So yeah, awesome session last night.

Yesterday, during the day, I went geocaching with my buddy, Leon. We found 5 out of 5! And set our difficulty record and our terrain record. Found a difficulty 4.5 and a terrain 5! If you're not familiar, 5 is the highest rank you can use in caching. Just like in footbag, 5's make you cool 8) jk, but 5's really are hard in geocaching.

Here are some pictures and a video from our journey…

Cache 1) Here is our first cache. There was a footbag inside it!?!?!? Of course I took that shit and replaced it with a rubber band.

Cache 2) This was our terrain 5. We had to clim up this like practically vertical slope by hanging onto roots and saplings. Then we finally see it hanging from a tree. It was a nice memorial for a girl who died and I guess that was her favorite spot… then again, maybe thats also how she died :P Literally, our first cache spot where someone could have actually fallen and died. Needless to say, when we climbed all the way up the cliff back to the trail, our adrenaline was through the roof.

Here is a short video of Leon finding it. I found first, but our rule is that we find it, walk away and say we found it then let the other person find it.

Cache 3: This one was sorta easy. Hidden under a metal bridge in a magnetic key box.

Cache 4: This one was really easy. We parked there and saw the information booth and nothing else around. Of course it was in the information booth…

Cache 5: This was our last one and holy shit was it a bitch. This is what they call an "evil cache". It's evil because it's a nano and they hid it really really well. We were brought to a line of 4 out-of-commission trains. The nano (which means VERY VERY small) was hidden in one of them. Took us like 45 minutes to an hour but we found it. I found it way before Leon, hence why he's got his middle finger in the picture.

And that ends our adventure.

Might go again today.

Gotta thank Ken for letting me see that I'm a piece of shit every time I look at my blog :P (Talking about his top post)

Tonight, I wanted to drill just July concepts. Got frustrated with Pdx DLO right off the bat. Then I realized something. If you, the reader, are around intermediate level or below.. if you take anything away from this post, please let it be this… "Paradox" means that you TWIST your hips toward the bag. I realized that with a ton of my "Pdx" stuff, I wasn't twisting.. I was pivoting more than twisting. I started twisting for Pdx tonight, and I'm pretty certain that I hit all of my first Pdx tricks for the very first time in the correct way. Went through a bunch of them, all bs.. Pdx Drifter, Pdx DLO, Pdx Mirage, Pdx Illusion, Pdx Blender, Pdx Whirl, Pdx Torque, Pdx Blink, Pdx Reverse Swirl, etc.. All of them now felt a ton easier with the twist that I never actually did. I'll be keeping this in mind from now on, and you should too. But I did drill after this, and I also hit some good combos/drills/goals.

Highlights:

 Pdx DLO> Smear 5x bs
 Pdx DLO> Smear> Dimwalk *rpt
 Drifter> Vortex *rpt> run (First try on this drill. Hit it once a year and a half ago, but it was so flukey and bad form)
 Short term session goal: Pdx Drifter> Reverse Swirl> Pdx Drifter bs
 Short term session goal: Gyro Whirl> Pdx Whirl> Pdx Whirl> Gyro Whirl (I've really wanted this for a long time, since I saw Lon do it so easily. Whirls are almost mine.
 Tomahawk BSOS (Need to ask Kemmer to look at these at PSU this weekend, they just feel funny)

So that's that. I was pretty happy that I realized how to finally do Pdx properly. I knew everything about it felt off to me. Oh and last night I thought I fixed Pdx Whirls with that extra turn I did, but now with a hip twist, holy shit, Pdx Whirls are seriously almost mine. Finally. Took forever, but I think I've almost put in the time to have them owned.

In other seriously awesome news… Ianek Regimbald and Mathieu Gauthier are road tripping from Canada to PA and they are going to crash at my place for 3 days at the end of July. So hyped for this. Sucks that I'll be working every day they'll be here, but we're going to have sessions at night. It should be a really sick few days.

And on top of this… PSU Artsfest Mini Jam is coming this weekend! Ryan Thomas wants to car pool with me. Really hoping and crossing my fingers that he can make it work.

Heading to bed now. Good night, footbag world.

It is really disappointing that the top players don't keep up their blogs, on here, or anywhere. It was actually something I was hoping would organically happen from the tour. I didn't want to make it an "obligation", as then you would have just had robot kind of reports, but looking back on it, maybe I should have done that.

I think the community could definitely improve from a simple post every couple of weeks by each of the top players. It doesn't even need to be that often.
