Re: Muffinman
Havent hit janiwalker x2 - couldnt even hit one today
Also PMed you back, I think, Luis
Today was my first session in close to 1.5 months. And it went surprisingly well!
I can't remember highlights? But I filmed. I'm so backlogged on footage though that it will be months before I can put anything together. Haha. We all had a killer opening to the session -- super long runs each of us to open, first try. Then Adam and I started a tradition of ending sessions on ironman. Cassy was already changed otherwise maybe she would have joined.
-I had one good run with spinning DLO > paradon BSOS, a mobius, and some stuff?
-a run I opened with blurrier > rev whirlygig BSOS that had some other things?
-scorpion's tail > blurry whip BSOS
-hit ripcurl BS (prlly done before?)
-OH! highlight of the session prolly! 10 atom smashers > rev gary coleman (atomic symp whip) > hand catch -- I think my previous atom smasher record was 7? But we were all trying and it was super fun
I don't remember what else but I have been dying to play.
Was sick a bit over Christmas, then sick for 3 weeks straight with a killer flu the first day back to work in January...

Re: Muffinman
Glad you're back with it! Super inspired by the Atom x10> Rev Gig. Atom x10 is on my goals list for 2015. I'm terrible at toe stuff, so I really hope I can follow you up on that. Can't believe that's your first session after the break! Those are killer highlights.
Re: Muffinman
TJ Bouterwick came to visit "from Japan" (I see in Cassy's blog he corrected from New Zealand at the moment, even though he's going back in a year-ish?) for the week. He, Cassy, and JJ jammed on Saturday and I hung out a bit. He bought me sushi after! Then he also stayed at my place on Thursday night. He had a solo beforehand and I filmed, though I forgot my speaker and battery charger, so the camera only lasted about 15-ish minutes and we couldn't hear my music from just the phone.
Anyway, he's basically forcing me to make a post.
Here's the brief footage I took:
I filmed a bit with Cassy's camera too the other day, so maybe she'll do something. They also jammed today, but I was super busy and also my achilles has been getting worse, though I'm doing physio now. I need to go buy more medical tape to keep it taped up. And also do my exercises for it three times daily.
After shred, we stopped for some groceries since he planned to make me and Laura pizza from scratch. He made a rosemary-infused dough. Nuts. I have yeast and fresh rosemary now, so I'm going to try to recreate it some time too! I've done pizza before but not in over a decade and I remember waiting a lot longer to let dough rise. Picture, which is also only conditionally allowed if I post it here:

It was really nice to meet him and we had a really nice visit that night. And pizza, to boot! Oh, he also bought us beer, which only made things better. And then this when I got home from work:

Bloodborne came out on Tuesday. I've played a bit every day except that Thursday. beat my first two bosses first try on release day. I bought a PS4 for this game. It was quite the investment, considering my struggling finances this year. I don't regret it in the slightest, though. The Souls series is a big thing to me. I've beat each game 50-ish+ times, no exaggeration. I've probably posted about that before. Tonight I put aside for just Bloodborne. And it's glorious. I think the fifth-ish boss was the only one I finally died to!

Re: Muffinman
Yeah, for real, TJ
Good times.
First of all, Modified looks amazing! Wow. I haven't visited in probably a year or so? I don't know. The logo is fucking gorgeous (Kevin Hogan?) and the new layout (Allan?) is just really efficient and well-designed! I should visit more often!
So I haven't played since before Christmas due to an injured achilles. Nothing super serious, but it's certainly been enough to have kept me off my feet for over half a year. And it will probably change how I play footbag for the rest of my life. So, well, I guess, yeah, kinda serious. I guess enough that I've lost quite a bit of interest. I don't really watch videos much anymore, and when I do I don't have much attention span for it. I will definitely focus more on spinning and ducking in the future if I can continue playing.
Having said that I KIND of played for the first time yesterday with Cassy, Adam, and Mike Faille. I wasn't even remotely prepared. I only had Lavers, which happened to be my walking shoes; and I had a towel for a sweat and a tanktop; and just regular, non-footbag-friendly shorts. I haven't played footbag in Lavers for about a decade probably, so... But it felt good. And I remembered how happy footbag makes me. It was ridiculous. Everything else just disappeared. I tried to focus mostly on just tiltless and BOPs, but had one run with spinning whip BSOS and mobius BSOS. I shouldn't have done that, but oh well. Something I was thinking actually was that I may try to replace whips with torques. Lower impact, but also maybe a higher chance of twisting ankle? I'm not sure. I've never been good at them.
Anyway, it was a blast, and we hung out and chatted and ate food after, which was a nice change of pace. Adam had been out of town for a few months and I hadn't seen Mike in probably over a year. Cassy had just returned from Worlds, but she didn't come out with us after.
In other news, I'm moving in with the lady and her daughter in a couple of weeks. Which is a little silly since Tom Mosher just moved down the street from me. But I'm looking forward to the nice new building, super low rent, hip neighbourhood, and living with my family. I have some nice new Ikea furniture waiting to be assembled for once I move and I'm excited for that. Two nice glass-doored bookshelves for my comics (to protect the books from the elements, but also from grubby 5-year-old hands...)
Otherwise, I'm currently jobless and enjoying my summer. I'm about to start a new Bloodborne playthrough. Here's one that I streamed and recorded from Twitch a while back. Not HD, but a good playthrough -- only 8 deaths total, and only died to 2 of 15 bosses. And Dark Souls 3 soon...

Erik!
Glad you are still alive!
Also glad to hear that you kicked...FINALLY! Don't stop playing, unless you want to that is, but I think you are talented, and it makes me (and others without a doubt) feel good to see you still chasing the bag after all of these years.

Re: Muffinman
Had another session yesterday at Buskerfest with Adam and Mike. It was really fun. I went guiltless. Like regular shred. There were tons of people watching and walking by, so it was super hard to keep it light and I did things I shouldn't've, like blurriests, blurry whips, spinning whips, a rev mullet midstring in an all ducking run. But I didn't really feel any pain, so it was okay. I did try to gravitate more toward spinning and ducking, but it's my natural inclination to push and bust when there are crowds. I need to work on my repertoire and make less intense things more interesting and various. I had a bunch of mobiuses BSOS, gyro DLOs (always to symp whip, which is just muscle memory, though I was trying to specifically avoid symp whips). Some good, long-ish, consistent runs for the most part, which is what made me feel the best.
My achilles felt a twinge of weakness after about an hour so I just stopped. That was a a good decision. I could feel it minisculely while walking today, but not in an aching or sharp pain way. Just I'm aware of it. I think I will be fine and I'm exciting to start playing regularly again!!
On that note, we just moved into a new condo together with her daughter (part-time) last weekend. So that has been keeping us super busy. Thankfully we're both currently unemployed, so we're able to manage everything involved, including stress and physical pain. Just finished a mini yoga session and that felt amazing.
Pre-ordered MGS5 Day One Edition last night. Stoked. While I bought a PS4 for Bloodborne, I bought a PS3 years back for MGS4. And MGS5: Ground Zeroes was amazing. IGN gave Phantom Pain a 10/10 (comes out Tuesday). So flippin excited.

Re: Muffinman
So sick that you're playing again. The community was definitely lacking something while you were gone.
Have you looked into glucosamine for your knees? I've got a bad knee and glucosamine seems to work well for me.

Re: Muffinman
Ha, thanks Nick.
I used to take glucosamine and chondroitin for my knees. I took it for years I think, and I have no way of telling, but it may have contributed to my being able to stop relying on knee braces. So thanks for the reminder. If I get into jogging I will try to keep that in mind.
I had a session with Mike today.
It was so humid out. And very hot. I also biked there, so I was tired and sweaty to begin with. My intention was to play a lot lighter and not even worry about guiltlessness. But since it was a high-traffic spot (probably the most pedestrian-dense locale in Toronto), it was really difficult to not play hard. Thankfully I was pooped before I felt even anything in my achilles.
Some highlights:
-stepping ducking clipper > spinning whip BSOS
-mobiuses BSOS
Actually nothing spectacular. But it felt good after being out for so long. I really want to mix up my trick repertoire. One highlight had nothing to do with footbag. There was an institution in Toronto a decade ago -- a guy self-dubbed Zanta, who would run around the city in a santa hat and no shirt, and just do pushups. He's recently making a come-back and while we were playing, he was there too. There's a super major intersection that's so busy that occasionally you can cross both ways at the same time and even walk diagonally to the opposite corner. He started doing his pushups during this, right in the middle of the intersection. But when the lights changed back to normal and cars started moving again, he kept on doing his thing. Pretty amazing.

Re: Muffinman
Bizarre dream last night!!
Something about being in some secret building where nobody was supposed to be (reminiscent of, was it Worlds '10, secret under-construction floor in the host hotel?). There were a handful of players who were proving their repertoires of quad-dex midtime tricks (like dual-dex, but 4 dexes). All I remember was Evan doing some combo like eggbeatering same DLO > DLOing DLO > eggbeatering same DLO (of, maybe 3-4-ish different combos involving different tricks). There were a handful of other players who had some midtime-quad-dex on a list too. Maybe there was a secret video with these tricks and combos? Anyway... nuts. You know when you remember a dream later on in the day the day after? And you've lost the majority of the details but it comes back to you and you're all, like, "Whoa."
Re: Muffinman
Been out of footbag for about a year now. It's killing me. Especially since I am jobless and all I wanted was to just footbag footbag footbag. No playing in the near future. But I just Skyped with Nick Landes who gave me a yoga lesson geared toward strengthening and stretching my achilles. I got some good poses, but my body is really different and lots of the poses with which he had planned to help me I didn't even feel in the same places he did. A few were really good though, so I'm going to focus on those. And then maybe I will be able to play by Spring or something? Who knows. Footbag just may not be in the cards. Which is super depressing because it is my everything.
