Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
It's so pleasant and inviting here at modified. Last month, when I really wanted to start kicking again. I would read the forums all day and check out videos and research as much as possible. Nick, Cassy, and you were all over the place here at modified. I hope to kick with you guys some day!
Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
That post totally made me smile. Pretty jealous of your household! Wish I could have had an upbringing around footbag. Fanboy for life. It's so hard to play it cool when meeting shredders, especially when you have seen their videos 1,000 times, or have had conversations online. Doesn't seem real, and takes so long to set in. Drifters are looking sexy. At least you can do them

Felix is the only person I've ever seriously fangirled over. I stopped being able to form cohesive sentences.
David is probably the other one that will turn my brain to mush if I ever meet him.
It's really cool when freestylers cross the line from existing as online personalities to being real live people that you are friends with!

Asmus: I said to my wife, "hello from Asmus" and she said "I don't know who that is" LOL! I then said yes you do, he's the guy who invited me to Copenhagen. OH RIGHT!
Daniel: Heck yes you are on that list. You rip hard! We have tons in common. I read your stuff a lot.
Andre: yeah we ought to shred sometime. Scott Davidson is in your area ain't he? Maybe Vince and I can come by sometime and we could have a circle.
Derek: I don't think I'll ever forget "cuz I believe". That right there plus your MASTERY of toe game gives you celeb status. I seriously have often thought, when Dereks clippers CLICK IN, He's gonna be scary good.
Cass: for those players, I'd also be a fangirl! loljk
Frustrating sesh today:
If I would have had this sesh months ago, it would have been AMAZING. But since I've leveled up, it was frustrating to be SO OFF, but try drool hit everything I was trying, eventually.
Honest, I must have tried strong drifter 50 times before I hit a BAD one, then several more times before I hit an acceptable one. THEN, flipside. 1ST TRY, TEXTBOOK.
?
-Moved on-
my new links: gyro clipper> all LIMPs bs. And gyro clipper B2B. Hit Gyro clipper b2b several times, like 5-10 times, but only one was perfect, the rest felt so wrong, and I'm sure they were.
Sole stall>clipper
This wasn't a good sesh for where I feel my game is at, but then again, I would have been THRILLED about this sesh months ago. Gotta keep a good perspective.

I have to hit Scott Davidson up sometime to kick. Good call. Please, let me know if you are in the area and I will totally shred with you. My cousin lives in Michigan somewhere, he just recently moved. When I visit him and I will stop by and kick with you!

I can relate to dumb, stupid sessions. I hate the sessions I have after work where my flip pixie decides to unlearn itself. I'm all like, "Hey, you're stupid. Stop!" After that, I get angry and am like, "Shut up, I hate you! Where's your hair, now!?"
I like your sole > clipper highlight. You should try sole wrap to flapper > clipper > flapper wrap to sole. That's a challenging one, especially flip!

That picture reminds me of how fast my bag was spinning from the set after my strong drifters yesterday. Thank you Ben, this post made me less frustrated. Like I wouldn't mind practicing again.

Re: MetZelRio
Little tip I picked up from one of the best players ever. Only try a certain trick 10 times on each side. If you can't hit it in those 10 tries, then you need to take a break from it, reanalyze your form/execution/posture/set height/etc then move on to something different. If you give Drifters 10 attempts on each side once a session, you'll hit some the one day, then more the next day and more and more and more as you progress through your days. But the best part about that is that you don't have to waste your energy on tiredly trying to hit Drifter the whole session. You can do 10 attempts on another trick or whatever you want. Chances are, while you were trying those Drifters, your attempts just worsened as you got more tired. Try this "10 attempts" thing sometime. It works really well. I attribute it to many of the concepts I can do well.MetZelRio wrote:

Krupp it up!
Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
Sesh highlight:
Every sesh I marathon the basic mirages, as one part of my warm up, but today I did not. I always hit it, but not FIRST try. Today after my sesh was completely exhausted from attempting to perfect drifter, I decided I HAD to at least marathon my mirages once. It only took one time. /end sesh.

Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
Another thing. Next sesh, I'm learning some new tricks. I have fun when I hit new tricks. I am realizing I didn't have fun today. That's gotta change. I cannot allow footbag to be another thing that's just a job to me. KTHXBAI
Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
I never practiced Drifters until yesterday when you reminded me of those. I like to hit them from Toe, as I don't have many toe -> clipper switches in my arsenal. They are one of these tricks that I don't have to practice and still hit consistently, if I find a good way of thinking about the trick.
For example, for Drifter, I set the bag up, trick my brain into thinking I'm going to do a Mirage and as I hop to the side to get that Mirage, I just tuck my leg into clipper. It's really easy this way, and I can be veeeery slow and still get it. It's a really forgiving trick. A bad thing about this is that my way can actually be 'bad form'.
I don't know which form on Drifter is good and which is bad. But this way, I'll at least get them done if they come up in Request contest somewhere.

Mr. Clavens has one of the best Drifter tutorials, though, I'm sure you know. You sure do know how to praise a dude! Thanks, seriously has made my week. But, I don't know about mastery. Hah. Don't worry about stagnating. I feel like when that happens, you are just building up for something big. Whether it's consistency, or having a concept completely click. I REALLY like sole stalls.

No, this is not my left foot taking the ALS ice bucket challenge.
GREAT sesh today after a few days off due to frustration and lack of fun.
Whirl from FaCTS BS (FaCTS is Far/Paradox, Clipper, Toe and Same)
I've never done toe whirl or same whirl before on either side so that's something new just as I promised. AND the paradox whirls on both sides were so purrrrfect, meow!
Drifters were practiced because I'm addicted and they improved. I found yet ANOTHER little secret to them. However, I reverted back to some of the older mistakes for a little bit.
drifter>whirl BS
Footed drifter>whirl bsos (that takes a controlled catch... not just a catch-fling, so props to me if I do say so myself, and I just did.
Drifter>osis bs
Footed drifter>osis BSOS
Flip drifter>osis was not clean enough for my tastes so let me try that again. Reference photo above. Looks like I'll be taking a few more days off again.
Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
I agree with drifters being addictive. After I watched that compilation that you made which was very useful, I started using them.
They are great as a low energy trick. When you finish a long, energy demanding drill, Drifter is the best thing to do to cool off.
I wish your injuries wouldn't come as often. I feel like everyone with a good form should never be injured, in a fair world. Looks like this one's not fair. It could be that you jumped straight to guiltless with your Drifter drills. Something like Drifter > Far Legover might have been easier on your legs, so they get used to the movement.

Todays practice sesh:
Also, ive twisted my ankle 4 times. Twice on each side. I twist it by planting my set foot too quickly, too far to the inside of my stance. I LOVE drifters, but I have to leave them alone for now. Whirl component is coming along nicely. One thing I've learned is that a whirl is NOT a whirl. There honestly is no such thing as a whirl except in name only (nominal). Sort of like "there is no spoon." Whirls are pickups. This is why I strongly beleive in toe stalls. You must have a great toe stall to do a good pickup. You must have a great clipper to do a good near pickup. You must have a great near pickup to have a good whirl. You must have a great far pickup to have a good paradox whirl. I believe all tricks can all be traced back to the basics. If you dont have great basics, you cant have good advanced tricks. These are my opinions. But results is the name of the game however, and I do.seem to have at least a few results, and I wont argue with those who have more results than i do concerning this.

Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"

The most interesting thing happened as I was watching Evan Gatesmans Shred 30 from the Polish champs...
He was busting a drifter, and mid drifter, the video began to buffer and froze on one particular frame... the missing key I've needed the whole time! I accidentally unintentionally stumbled upon it!
There it was whispering to me with its sexy foxy attractive and fine female voice, HERE I AM, COME AND GET ME!
And you know me, I just had to give in and go get her because after all, She IS mine... drifter that is.
I made her mine... I didn't break my own self in the process either.
Bow bow, chicka chicka, oh bow bow, OH YEAH.

Re: MetZelRio "OMGOMG Fanboy"
Paul, I sent you a big challenge on your challenge thread. I think, the toe flicks might be too easy though. I have no concept of how hard toe flicks are for most people. For me, I hate them! Even though, I practice them every. single. day. I heard that you went back and re-learned everything. Does this involve kicks as well? I am trying to decide how much time I should put into kicks. Would it be easy for you to hit 100 kicks without any drops in a row? I know, it would be hard to get 30 kicks without a drop. Outsides are hard, toe flicks are impossible, and inside kicks are OK for me. Knee kicks are fun though. It's harder to kick in Rod Lavers for me. Or maybe this is just a bad excuse?

Prune my man, I saw your challenges, thank you =) I don't have an alternative shoe to compare kicking in, so, I'm not the guy to say. It's possible for sure to be done in roddyz.
I DO practice kicks, yes I do, but no real solid focus on them.
100 toe kicks I can do. Inside, not yet.
