Probably the only shredder of all fLemmings
I'm eating tons of cheap salted peanuts right now and telling myself to cut it out after each one.
March 12
Anyway, I had an okay 35 minute session on Sunday. Some longish runs (one 19 contact string) but for some obscure reason my osi felt totally unreliable.
I'd like to do a sort of public shred next but I have no clue on a location. Okay, 1h30 left before sunset. I should manage to run into a suitable spot in the neighbourhood. Although it's only like 5°C outside I feel like I should take advantage of the sun.
The "shred meets stimorol" people have sent me a complete list of the tricks they will feature in their online section:
> Toe stall
> Clipper
> Toe set mirage
> Clip set mirage
>
> Sole delay
> Ducking clipper
> Whirl
> Double around-the-world
>
> Spinning osis
> Paradon
> Legbeater
> Ripwalk
Given the circumstances I think I've managed a nice balance between crowd pleasers and fundamental (but less spectacular) tricks.
Okay, I'm putting away the peanuts right now and slipping on my lavers before it's dark.

The last few days have been very fruitful for me; as far as footbag is concerned anyway.

I had the sweetest session in ages, but in order to fully understand it I have to tell you a little anecdote.
OK, if spirituality is not up your street, then skip this paragraph and go right ahead to the next one. The story goes like this: my girlfriend recently bought a set of ‘Mother Earth Cards’. It’s a sort of tarot set (well, not quite but it's the closest point of reference I can think of) with spiritual and other lessons based on native American philosophy. So on Monday I drew a card, ‘Shield of the East’. Don't worry, I won’t go into detail as to the message connected to the card.
Anyway, later that day I venture out looking for a suitable shredspot (see previous post) but to no avail, when all of a sudden I realise I’m heading west. ‘Shield of the East’ flashes through my mind and, although the meaning of the card is symbolic, I take it literal for once, U-turn my bike and ride east.
Not ten minutes later I turn into a street I had been meaning to check out for over a week but had not yet for some reason. I end up in this nice and quiet living area not five minutes away from where I have been living these past few weeks. Experience has taught me that areas like this tend to have a basketball pitch, a sports/playground or the like so I keep an eye on that. Right after thinking that, on turning the very next corner, I discern a tiny basketball court with a single ring. Excellent! I laugh for joy and thank the American Indians.
I was so relieved to find a good shred location in the neighbourhood that I shredded for one hour straight. My overall footbag feel was equally good. I didn’t count any of my runs but I’m sure there were loads of 15+ strings and perhaps some 20+ too.
I felt on top of my game, nearly all the tricks and concepts that I had last summer (and more) at my disposal.
-Torques and drifters BSOS
-dropping only 1 paradon/barfly out of 15.
-solid double dexes throughout
-some harder shred combos like legbeater>blur>dim>rip and others without having to think about it too much.
-consecutive ducks/dives. Hadn’t done that in a while.
-cooling down with 35 BOP which is a fair number after all those ‘long’ strings.
Only my spins were below average but that didn’t upset me at all. I’m also happy to have given spectators – if any, and yes I did see some curtains moving – a nice introduction to footbag, cos I think they’ll be seeing a lot more of me when summer draws near. Yessss!
Speaking of which, I think increasing my longest run by another dozen would be a sweet resolution for this summer. I’m at 27 now (25 in 2005, 10 in 2004), and doing 40 by October would be so sweet.
March 14
Being so on top of my game yesterday I figured the time was right for some new challenges, so I set out on a 40 minute ‘new trick hunt’-session. Here’s my list of tricks I wanted to try: bubbabeater, ripped warrior, high plains drifter (and perhaps a jani), butterfly swirl (hit once before but to a sketchy heely sort of clipper), flail, down double down, mobius, and vortex. On the other hand I also wanted to school some tricks I had hit before but hadn’t been able to nail consistently, like swirl, PS whirl, phoenix, and anything with a downtime illusion.
After trying swirl, butterfly swirl, bubbabeater, and flail in vain (nowhere NEAR on some) I skipped to ddd and felt a possible hit after a few tries. Eventually I footed it several times on both sides which was really exciting. Anyway, I set lower than when I tried it before and I’m a thousand times closer to nailing it. Perhaps the low sets make the dexes thinner but that’s something I’ll check on film when I’ve hit it.
The most exciting part, however, was when I shifted attention to mobius and vortex (eventually I got so enthousiastic over those two that I forgot all about trying the barraging stuff). I had footed mobius before but never got that close today although I was pretty close a few times. On the other hand, I don’t recall ever having tried vortex seriously before but again I felt a possible hit after only a few tries! I ended up footing it a few times on both sides (!!!), so I’m saving the YEAAAHS! for next time. Anyway, it was surprising as well as stimulating to be so close to vortex for a number of reasons
-I really dig muted stuff lately. It’s stylyyyy! I can see why it’s one of Max B.’s all time favourites.
-vortex actually feels like a 4add to me although it’s a five. I don’t quite know why. I think it has something to do with that supposed pdx add; it doesn’t feel paradox to me.
-just a few months ago (last year October) I didn’t even have an all downtime drifter, and being close to gyroing it now means I’ve come a long way in a relatively short time.
Darn, I sound like mister vortex-expert already and I haven’t even hit it.

Hey Wim, propos on your new shred spot and props on your trick hunt!! Sounds like you'll have some gyro variations under your belt soon enough.

There's no paradox. It's gyro drifter. Try spinning paradox drifter (void) and you'll see that that FEELS like a 5
erm... I actually don't do any muted stuff...unless you're talking about something else, but yes it can be styly. Try some muted pimping / gimping stuff-I really dig muted stuff lately. It’s stylyyyy! I can see why it’s one of Max B.’s all time favourites.
It's good to know that it feels like a 4 add because that's what it is-vortex actually feels like a 4add to me although it’s a five. I don’t quite know why. I think it has something to do with that supposed pdx add; it doesn’t feel paradox to me.

Whoopsee! I meant muted in the sense that in vortex your set foot shouldn't touch the ground after the set (so hm I would consider every gyro trick as muted). You see my reasoning...?Max wrote:erm... Damn. I honestly think I saw it listed as a five somewhere but then this sort of thing happens to me so often that I'm starting to think I'm suffering from delusions
I've had two satisfying sessions since the last shred entry though I've been taking it easy. The reason for this is that my hamstring kills me if I try to go 'hard'core. The cause for this
is that I went biking with my gf's father and his crew on Sunday and got a little overenthousiastic; I did 92 km without any specific training
So still no yeahs on vortex, or any yeahs for that matter.
I did some BOP/low dex runs yesterday and managed to do 25 BOP during warm-up and a 19 contact low dex run with both ducks, dives, and spins.

Had a decently good 45 minutes session. Bearing in mind my funky hamstring I designed to avoid all symposium tricks (which I did) and shuffle combos (which I didn’t, explanation see next paragraph).
Because my atomics were feeling so solid, I felt an urge to try rubberman again after not having thought about it for over a month. I got halfway on both sides within a few tries, but kept failing on blur>atom smasher which I think is the toughest link in the combo. So I tried only that combo into a string a few times, got it BS but gave up rubberman again.
The good thing was that my hamstring didn’t bother me at all, so I got a bit less picky about tricks and tried and hit
-paradox drifter (hit before but weeks ago)
-NEW TRICK! Smoke! yay! (only on flipside. Failed on strongside where I combine my good pixie with my good drifter. Although I footed it once on that side to a sketchy sort of clipper)
I also got a haircut yesterday for the first time in uhhh, half a year I believe and oh yeah I bought a UNICYCLE! Coool. Actually the story is pretty funny. Just before going to the mall last week I was telling my girlfriend: “hmm, learning how to ride a unicycle seems like a really cool thing to do”. THEN, upon entering the mall we see a pile of unicycles with a discount (who for god’s sake buys a unicycle) so it cost me only €50. Haha. Anyway, I’ve managed to ride like a metre with it before falling over so I think it might take me some time before I’ll be able to wheel to the local grocers’ on it. Footbag is easy!
I'm also beaking bread right now (crafts rule!) and I'm taking it out of the oven next.

Woooow, I found this blog somewhere way down the second page and decided to update it though there isn't much to update on.
It's just so nice to finally have a decently fast comp and connection again
.
What's with footbag? Haven't played seriously in weeks. Somehow I've been more into cycling these past few weeks. But that has been shot to hell too because I fucked up my left ankle on Sunday and I'm laying off for a few days.
Actually, being paralysed and unable to do anything physical gives me an urge to go out and shred
. Perhaps I should try some low-impact baggie.
My last session of about a week ago was low-impact too. Mainly BOP (did 25 or so but ran out of breath way too quickly) and fixing spins and gyro.

I’ve set up a business as a self-employed translator! Feel free to visit my website on http://users.skynet.be/deveerman, especially if you are/know someone who is struggling with a text in Dutch or English
Just a quick post to say that the stimorol footbag thing is online at http://www.stimorol.nl and http://www.stimorol.be. Click bottom right corner, crazy hack button.
A few remarks:
-"one of the leading footbag professionals"? I certainly didn't tell them that, and anyone who knows anything about footbag will know that I'm no pro.
(As will the people who click on the link to the Vasek videos). Anyway, it does sound very portentous.
-the introduction run is ridiculous!
kick>kick>kick>butterfly>toe stall>butterfly>infinity>ducking clipper??? Come on!
Still it was the best I could do after two hours of shred in unnaturally BIG clothes under a bunch of 1,000,000,000Kw spotlights on a funny underground.
-That brings us to the clothes. No comment. Haha.
Anyone who knows me even remotely can tell that this is not my style. I'm not street. I think also people who don't know me (i.e. the visitors of the section) might guess that.
The intention was to give footbag a sort of 'street' air, which it has, but trying to do so via clothing is pathetic and in no way representative of the sport IMO. Rather go out on the street and shoot some tricks there. That's street.
-The tricks are chopped up. It's hard to tell cleanliness (or even 'what I am doing') even in slomo. Even on my superdeedooperfast connection.
Paradon 'catch' is actually more of a kick.
-'The impossible trick' is performed with a real stimorol wrap BUT with a DOCBAG taped into it. Hahaha! Gotcha. Not so impossible trick once you've figured that out.
-EDIT: the 'footbags' stimorol is gonna distribute SUCK ASS! They're better than the Kellogg's ones from a few years ago (that were virtually unkickable) but they still SUXKCKC ASS! I have a bootleg bag here next to me and ... well... it's somewhere in between a net and a freestyle bag, but good for neither. The surface feels soft (cfr. freestyle) but the thing is damn HAAARD!
Anyway, now that I'm watching the website a little longer, I'm starting to dislike it a lot less. The design is actually pretty cool. Also the trick choice could have been a lot worse.
I'm curious what the feetbag uhhhh feedback of this will be.
Universal acceptance and breakthrough of footbag in the Low Lands?
Yar. Right.

OK, I haven't been here in ages AGAIN. A lot of new banners on the site + another 2 pages have been added to Fanzine since my last visit (which is how I measure the length of my absence now).
I had a pretty cool session in Brussels with Max, Alex, Jul, and an up-and-coming kicker named Ilan last week.
I jotted down some highlights when I came back completely dehydrated and dead-tired last week that I can hardly decipher now.
Ilan (first time I saw him kick - or first time I saw him period? Not sure
) surprised me a few times, like when he hit osis>osis. So he has pretty bothsided clippers which is cool.
Alex showed us some pretty cool guay stuff (b2b). He seems to be working on his flipside. Unfortunately he bailed out just when the circle got going, which might have something to do with the just-not-big-enough-thus-hurtful lavers he bought over ebay.
Seb showed up for a while after piano lessons but didn't kique.
Jul progresses so MUCH every time I see him (props Jul). He seems to be in that twilight zone between solidly tiltless and dito guiltless. He's stringing butterflies with ease. I also saw him hit ducking osis (bs(os?)?), ripwalk, phoenix (!). Came close to blurry reverse whirl, which he wasn't too excited about so I think he hit that before, and a few good attempts at ripped warrior. I have the impression he's into big tricks, which is cool.
Max was in good shape and I feel I remember too few highlights to do him justice. I remember him doing some PS whirls, seemingly without knee pains, a very long consecutive ducking run (15-20?), 4 contacts into rubberman, footing big apple (hit before). He called it a day having hit 3 or 4 new uniques, which is admirable after being in footbag for more than a lustre (=a century in footbag career terms
). As usual shed some light on a few tricks for me which is always nice.
Without a doubt, the coolest/funniest moment of the session was when he was trying to hit his first flip symposium bubba. Anyway, he did, so he tried to beesauce it in the following run. He did that too (apparently to his own amazement), after which he looked up at me during a pdx mirage bail or so, said "cooooool!", continued his run and bsosd it AGAIN!
As to my own shred, well, I surpassed my expectations (which were none) by far
. The day before the shred I had kicked a little but throughout the session I had that annoying feeling that the bag was playing with me instead of the other way round
.
Then, the day after, using one of Max' docbags, everything seemed to suddenly fall in place, so now I'm thinking my own bag might be close to retirement.
Some higlights:
-paradon>barfly (first time to hit that link)
-legbeater>whirl BSOS
-good spins and ducks throughout
-a 17 contact guiltless at the end of the session
-some other promising runs thwarted by the club radio that was on the ground next to me
-good looks at vortex and interesting insights on symple swirl, flail and butterfly swirl (mainly thanks to Max)
-MOBIUS! (also partly thanks to Max) Actually it didn't feel like a hit because I didn't see the osis, and I was surprised to see the bag come up again on my other side (though not enough so for a seal), so the outburst of joy that traditionally comes with a 'first hit' was filtered and came a little later, only after the others had assured me I had hit it.
Anyway, it was fun kicking with other people again so I think I'll take the trip to Brussels more often.
OK, that's it for now, laterz.

Awesome kick yesterday evening in front of the Palais de Justice, Brussels. Jul showed up and so did Max and a (new?) guy of whom I didn't actually catch the name. It's cool to see at least one new face every time I show up in Brussels, it sort of indicates that things are in motion - yes, there's a shred scene in Belgium!
My fellow kickers would probably disagree with me about the awesomeness of the session due to the terrible conditions. There was a pretty fierce wind and, if there's ANY wind at all in Brussels, you'll notice first on the square in front of the Palais de Justice. The square is elevated about 30 metres above the surrouding area, so it offers a nice view on Brussels, but on the flipside it's a tricky place for shredding.
So we used Max' ultraheavy windproof bag, but even that tended to change course about three times on its way down to my feet.
My first few runs were straight out dreadful (hadn't played in over a month), and throughout the session I kept alternating the most silly drops with decent runs. I did manage to hit a new unique (flip paradox drifter) without too much trouble and my first all downtime blender within the first two tries (to my own surprise). Run length and bag control were nowhere but that didn't bother me at all.
SO, my good feeling about the session derives mainly from
-having been back in Brussels after so long
-having shredded again after so long
-having been able to pull off a few decent runs in spite of so long an inactivity.
Max didn't feel on top of his game (he seemed very much bothered by the wind) but still pulled off some inspiring stuff. Inspinning osis, fog, reverse whirr and a bunch of vortices come to mind. Close to revstein and most of all ducking paradox double legover too many times. Footed gyro barroque (hit before).
Jul is still improving at a very good rate. I think he has been playing for little over a year now and every time I see him he seems to have dozens of new tricks. Good dynos, torques, drifters, ducking butterflies BS, spinning osis, stepping, atomic and pixie set variations. He's schooling nuclear now and I even saw him attempt a little paradox blender there. He can go tiltless for ever, his infinity record is around 15. Also his style seems to be maturing.
Having in a good session is all the more good because not so long ago I was pretty much retired from footbag. Missed out on worlds due to a disintrest in footbag that slumbered for months. I'll see where it goes.
