sorry for double posting (not really, this is our blog) but it was necessary to waste my 1000th post on something meaningless
thanks aric im glad you liked it! when are you gonna come up and visit? it would be great to kick with you again, definitely miss having someone at RIT who was better than me, it made playing in the middle of the week a feasibility, not to mention you're a pretty alright guy in general!
joking aside, we do miss you up here, hope you're kicking in the dirty dirty

Fricken back!
Back update. As some of you know during last Sunday session I had a lower back spasm. I have dealt with back pain my whole life and in most cases it was simply a strained muscle relieved by rest. This time was much different. For one, I had a lower back spasm, something I have never experienced before. Secondly, I am still in a considerable amount of pain limiting my mobility and range of motion. I feel like an idiot because I started having pain in my back last Monday after running on a treadmill. Instead of taking time off I continued to run everyday except Saturday. When I came to the Sunday session I had a pretty sensitive hot spot in my lower back and thought that playing was either going to losen up the problem or make it worse. I lost the toss up.
Anyway, even though I can't play right now I can still hold a camera. I would be happy to come to the next Sunday session, perhaps when you guys are warmed up, and shot some hand-cam video. I am still interested in updating our website with more video and pictures for the announcement of our next event in 2009.
Let me know what you think.

i think you rock, mike.
the injury really sucks. i was worried about that... by the looks of things it didn't seem too likely you'd be able to play by next sunday. though the only thing that matters is healing for the long term. i'm sure you've seen a doctor since then-- how's the recovery schedule looking?
Thanks for offering to come to the session regardless of being able to play, you're the most committed member of this club. Aren't Doug and Ian going to be back in town? Might be a good time to do some filming.
see everyone soon

Chris, thanks for the kind words.
I went to see a chiropractor on Tuesday. His name is Dr. Donald Dudley and I have seen him a few times over the past several years. Aside from being a good person he is a great doctor, very welcoming and thorough in his care. Anyway, I had an x-ray done Tuesday afternoon and found out that I have a few conditions with my spine, some congenital, that contribute to me being prone to back injury. As for this latest injury, the bottom line is I over did it. I had pain when I came to the session and instead of bowing out I tried playing through it and now I am suffering the consequences of that bad decision. I was told by the doctor that if I keep my core strong and my flexibility good I should be able to continue my active lifestyle. However, when I experience pain I should rest and stretch only. I am scheduled to see Dr. Dudley again on Friday and routinely, perhaps once a month, in the future.
I will see you guys Sunday if you are playing. Let me know what time you guys think you will be ready for some filming.

Hey, so just to catch up on everything...
Mike, I'm really sorry to hear about your back. It's good that you're seeing a chiropractor (especially one that you already familiar with) and that you'll still be able to play footbag. Good luck with the whole healing process.
Paul, really cool music on the last page, AND really really cool videos. It's nice to see some video action in this blog. Your editing looks really good and I hope you continue to put out more footage.
Chris, you are correct. Ian and I are back as of midnight last night and are down for some shred.
If you guys still plan on playing tomorrow, then count us in. The only thing that might prevent us from showing up is if the weather is incredibly bad. But even then, it would have to be REALLY bad.
Peace

Back update.
I am going to see a back specialist today at 4pm. Since my original injury I have had an x-ray and an MRI done. By the end of today I should know exactly what is wrong and how long it will take to fix.
Even though I can't footbag, I can still get the ball rolling on GRASS 2009.
Stay tuned.

Final Back Update
It's official, my back is messed up. I have a herniated disk between L1 and L2 that is taking up about 60% of the space that the spinal cord lives in. The good news is, I will eventually heal. The bad news is I don't know how long it will take. And once I am healed I do not know if I am going to play footbag again. I will be having routine appointments with a back specialist. Once I am better he will advise me on what activities I should and should not do. I am going to have to introduce him to footbag, since he does not know what it is or how physically demanding it can be. Only then will he be able to make a rational decision on whether I should or should not play.
I am still going to make GRASS happen. I will write up an agenda and share it with you in a week or so, depending on how much pain medication I take and how clear my head is.
P.S. I don't blame footbag. I was born with a bad back. And damn it I am going to do everything I can with it.

I'm glad you went to a doctor. Sorry for the initially bad news, but I know you'll stay smart and try and get it right. I just hope you can make it through, and keep a bag in the air!
otherwise, I guess we'll just have to fill that gap with more music-playing, sushi-eating, and beer-drinking!

Mike: I'm really sorry to hear about your back, It's hard to watch a fellow footbagger in pain. But like Matt said I know you will be true to your body and give it exactly what it needs, even if it means missin out on some circle time. But its nice to see that even thou your not kicking right now your active in the sport by planning Grass09. By the way....... Ive been out of the loop for a while, I take it Grass is an event? One of epic proportions? One that I can't miss?I know if RFA has anything to do with it the answer to all of those questions would be YES! I look forward to information, but no rush.
Is there any session this week RFA? I'm finally out of the studio and back in my lavers full time, so it's about time I came out.
Hey Matt. I'm returning to Alfred in a week for the spring semester, and thinking about getting a school club going and might need a little "experienced backup" If your interested let me know.

Bill, whatever consultation you need, I'm up for.
my best advice would be to play in public and not take it seriously. Just have fun, be friendly, be open to playing the passing game instead of the tricking game. There's no use in jumping through the hoops to start a club if there's no one to be in it with you.
start it casual, and if it gets super serious in a few months and you want some money from the school to go to tournaments, that would be a better time to start an official club.
in my opinion, that is.

Paul,
Thank you for your kind words.
In regards to the site, I would like to update the site to look very professional. What I think we need for now is a site that is tailored to a more general audience. It should include sections including "what is footbag", "members", "media", and most importantly advertisement for GRASS 2009.
Once the site is ready I am going to place ads promoting the site. I would like to do this once or twice a month starting as soon as possible, and then place a full week ad in the paid publications for the week leading up to GRASS.

sounds like a plan.
i have no desire to change that vision at all, i just want to make it look good, and now i believe i have the skills necessary (the last videos are NOTHING, and i mean NOTHING compared to what i know now.) the problem is that the new techniques take more time.
as for the webpages design, i think we need to sit down and story board out what the different sections you want to have are so that i can generate illustrator files for you to use in the development app you are using (are you coding in html?)
i can easily make custom looking buttons, transitions, bumps, logos, basically anything you need, i just dont know how to implement them yet. i want to learn flash and then go from there.
we should definitely meet up sometime this week and discuss how you want the site layed out so i can get to work on the graphic elements. i need the practice and welcome the extra project.
