I think it's important to realise, when asking the question, "- Do you dislike gay people, or do you have no problem with them? " ,

*them* are our brothers and sisters, parents, sport heros, musicians . . .

I just wanna say that I think Damon has grown beyond this and furthermore I would like to see his input.

You know who I don't have a problem with though? Hitler.

I really just don't think he was as bad as everyone made him out to be.

I don't think living a virtuous personal life, being a brilliant speaker and an economic genius quite make up for the slaughter of 6 million Jews.

I realize you stated this to be funny, however it was innapropriate and lacked humor.

Christ you guys are thick. I hoped in my heart of hearts that my Hitler reference would lead you guys to believe that all of my posts in this thread have been sarcastic. People on modified are way to politically correct all the time. It fucking amazes me.

Just try being funny instead of offensive

A more interesting topic would be opinions on homosexuality. It seems very little amounts of people are truly intolerant against homosexuals, however the idea of homosexuality might be different

Blackend wrote:I used to be very biased against gay people before I moved to Missoula. Before that, I lived in a rural agricultural (in Montana that translates to hick) town of about 10,000 called Havre in northern Montana (about forty miles from Canadia, eh?). I was raised Catholic and my parents, mainly my dad, were strictly anti-gay. My mom didn't really have much of a problem with it after a time of watching HGTV and Christopher Lowell. Anyways, there were few kids open about their homosexuality in my high school. Then I joined the National Guard where it was supposed to be kept in the closet. I liked that idea at the time because after a while, I didn't have a problem with a person's sexual orientation as long as they kept it in the closet and away from me. Then I moved to Missoula last year and if you don't know anything about this town, it is a very liberal town of about 75,000 or something to the nature. After hanging out with the group I hang out with, we eventually came across a few homosexuals that hang out with us every now and again and I've found out that I don't mind them that much; they're actually as normal as anyone else is and are very nice people. The only time I ever have a small resentment for them is when you get the flamboyantly homosexual-type; that's the equivalent of my friend Pete running around campus yelling "I LOVE WOMEN AND I'M PROUD OF IT!" We already know that, but it doesn't need to be as boisterous as that. That's my two cents.
By far the best post of yours I've read - nice work! I often feel awkwark when people of any sexuality talk to me about how much they love particular aspects of sex (not a serious discussion - more a bragging thing I guess) - because I'm never really sure what to say. I guess it depends on what the person is saying though.

It's sad to see such a strong homophobic sentiment expressed (in general) in the footbag community (or any other community for that matter) but I think it's safe to assume that most of the homophobic people are fairly uneducated in regards to homosexuality and don't have any close friends or relatives who are gay. We also live in a society with some fairly strong misconceptions about homosexuality. For example over 90% of pedophiles are hetrosexual not homosexual despite what seems to be presented in the media. Also children raised by parents who have had to go through the process of adoption or particularly IVF are generally happier and better adjusted regardless of the gender or sexuality of their parents. This is clearly because parents who make an effort to have children generally are better then parents who have the child forced upon them. There is no evidence to suggest that children growing up in a homosexual family will be negatively effected at all and plenty of evidence to show that they will be generally better then plenty of hetrosexual families (obviously we are speaking in generalisations here). I have friends who grew up in homosexual families and it's clear to me that there is nothing "wrong" with them.

I guess there is an instance where I verge on being homophobic although I recognise this and don't comment. In my state - Tasmania we had the most homophobic laws in Australia until 1995 when we had a change of government. (or shortly before). Basically I think sex between two men was illegal in all circumstances. Then we had a hung government and the left wing of the two major parties formed government with the support of the Greens party. This lead to a change in laws and Tasmania now has the most liberal homosexual laws in Australia (and they're still improving). For years in Tasmania many gay rights activists worked tirelessly to change the laws and in conjunction with the political parties (in particular the greens) who also tried to that. For this reason when I here somebody I know is gay say that they vote for the conservative party (the Liberal Party) in elections it really annoys me - more so then when I don't know the persons sexuality or they're hetrosexual. The Liberal party of Australia is still as homophobic as any conservative party around the world and still opposes any increases to gay rights. So I'm always annoyed that somebody who is presumably effected by that still supports that party. Of course it's unfair of me to judge based on sexuality so I never vocalise this.

I *guess* I apologise for missing that Dan...it's tough to identify the sarcasm when there's absolutely no frame of reference. ie: nothing genuine.

@ Jeremy: I think you'd have every right to confront them on that issue. You're not judging them, it's an issue that affects their lifestyle. Why would it be inappropriate?

I guess my feeling is *because* they are gay they shouldn't vote for that particular political party. In reality people vote for political parties for all kinds of reasons and disagreeing on one issue doesn't mean you shouldn't vote for that party. I definitely confront them on the issue - I don't see a problem with that. I think the problem is how my expectations of their political beliefs stem from their sexuality. It's not how I react in the situation - it's how I feel about it that seems wrong.

Why thank you for the kind words.

And Dan, stop being such a butt-wad. You could have put a bit more sarcasm/humor into it. I've found out that if you don't, you get misunderstood widely. Put a smiley in or something?

When I saw this thread get launched, I thought it was just a trap for Damon, or other haters :)

-----------------------------------------------
I dislike activists who try to push their gay indoctrination into the classrooms . They want to force everybody's kid into it, at the youngest age possible.

They would prefer that you not be allowed to remove your kid from the lessons. In fact, the parents should not even be informed that these lessons will be taught, lest their homophobia be inflamed.

Second graders should not be taught that gay is cool, and safe.

-----------------------------------

Jeremy's writing about the voting thing sparked a few thoughts. But I'll get to that in my next post.

There is no reason you should not confront, or ask why.

How exactly DO people respond?

I am assuming the question would resemble this:

"Why do you , as a homosexual, vote for conservative candidates?"

And why should that happen? Most children that are exposed to homosexuality (not being molested, mind you) at that age are comfortable with gayness and are not homosexuals themselves when they are older. They turn out to be the ones that are the inverse of homophobics. By no means they should be taught to be gay, but they should be taught that people swing from the other side of the plate and that they are the same as us; it's no different than them learning the difference of skin color. That they should be taught at the second grade is probably not the best time, but they should still be confronted with the issue and learn about it when they are young rather than when they are older and have already misconcieved the idea.
