in january of 2003 it was my last tournament of the season for fencing befor i went back to winnipeg (i was in Montreal training with the rest of the national team). It was a Jr. World Cup and i had trained hard, prepared well and was super stoked for it, because once it was over meant i was going home to my family. every thing was working, my timing, distance and balance was on and i could do no wrong. i was sitting in 5th place after the pools and got a bye to the round of 64. at first i was really nervous, since i was ranked really high and didn't want to lose it and almost lost the first round, but after that it just felt like i was playing. i didn't notice anything around me, and it was like i was taking a lesson with my coach. after one bout that i finished every one rushed up to me and was screaming that i made the top 4, which i hadn't even realized because i was just doing my thing. In the next bout every thing was going well, but to put it very simply every thing was going slightly better for my opponent. i still don't think i have ever fenced better in my life, and i have a shiny bronze medal to show for it. At the end of that season i was ranked 33rd in the world under the age of 20, and i was only 17, possibly the best day of my life.
