obviously if you think about the mechanics of a 'fast' its visibly unhealthy.
Your body requires food to sustain life and to be healthy, and by not eating your taking away that, but i think as long as you drink juices and stuff while your doing it, it shouldnt be that bad. We'll find out. the fast starts tomorrow...IM IN!

depending on what juices you drank would also be a factor some juices contain less than 50 calories, and as long as you rationed yourself that shouldnt be a problem

If i don't eat every couple of hours I feel like shit and I get very aggressive. If I went down in a plane crash in the mountains, it would be maybe 4-6 hours before I started eating the weakest links. I can't even think about going a whole day without food; I couldn't function even semi-normally.
As for religious purposes.. fuck that. Any god who wants me not to eat is a deity I'm not worshipping.

These are some of the most ignorant, misled posts I've read on modified. How can you pass judgment like that on something that you've never tried? It seems that some of you are simply addicted to food, which is not healthy for your body. Even more unnerving is the fact that your mind is addicted as well. The reason that many modern scientists and doctors disapprove of fasting is because it's a cheap way for our bodies to heal themselves, and they like to sell their cure-all pills. Fasting has been used by many countries for years as a very effective way of extending life and maintaining health. There are still studies that show that fasting is very good for health, when controlled and performed correctly. Do some research before you make assumptions.
But anyways, it's day one of my fast, and everything is going well. How are the rest of you doing today?

I miss one day of modified, and I totally overlooked this topic. David, I really want to start fasting too, since my system has felt like crap for the past few weeks. I haven't fasted for awhile, so this may be a rough trip for me. I tend to procastinate alot, so I usually overlook on my fasts. I'll try to manage without "tasting" for a few days.
If it's okay, I think I'll start fasting on Saturday 12 AM to Tuesday 12 AM. A little late, but it'll be good to take a few days to prepare my body for this.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.funklovesfootbag wrote:As for religious purposes.. fuck that. Any god who wants me not to eat is not a deity I'm not worshipping.
There are some very interesting things being posted here, thanks for the info guys! I'm thinking maybe I should take this up too, obviously I'm too late for this one and probably wouldn't have done it this w/e anyway but I think I might do this every couple of months or so. Thanks.

www.google.com - searching the internet is very easy...
Fasting is obviously something that you have to do right or it can be dangerous/unhealthy but I trust the nutritionists who think it is good for you. On a somewhat side note - almost all religious traditions such as fasting actually have completely good non religious reasons behind them. The fact that God says to something could be seen as just an excuse for making people do something that is good for them.
I would like to go on a fast but I won't start at least until Australia are out of the world cup - probably more likely once the world cup is completely over.

Too busy drinking every night Jeremy?!
Anyways, Wasabi - go for it. You don't have to fast during this time, I was just throwing it out there for anyone else who was interested in fasting with me. Sometimes it's easier for people to go through a fast when there's support (ie. they're not doing it by themselves). funk funk funk... wouldn't you say that too much water and air (I'm assuming you mean oxygen? air is somewhat ambiguous
) are bad for you as well? It's not that I don't realize food as a necessity, it's that I believe that it should be done in moderation as well. That's simply my opinion - do what makes you feel right! I can't hate on someone else's opinion. Zeb - one time I was fasting last year and I woke up in the middle of the night and went to my fridge and ate a bunch of chips and dip and I didn't realize for about 30 minutes into eating it that I was supposed to be fasting. I got sick for a few days but it turned out alright, I had to break the fast though, because of the quantity of food that I ate. A few cheese nips won't be too bad for you. It's hard to turn off the hunger urge. Hey James, thanks for the props, do it on your own time - you'll be glad you did. Kyle I would suggest going to wikipedia or something and just doing a search for fasting; I read on wikipedia about fasting for a few hours yesterday.
I found out yesterday that the hunger that one feels during a 3 day fast goes away after the third day; I wouldn't know, since I've only done three days. If I have a more relaxed week or two in the future I'll go for a 5-7 day fast, but I'll have to prepare for that really well. In addition, I also found out that a guy that advocates 90 day fasts has helped heal many people around the world. Just something to think about.
