Who is the best North American player?
ok post master, you seem to be getting pretty mad about everyone's posts, I can see that you want less off topic talk, and more direct answers with simple explaination. But chill dude
, your stressing out over other peoples posts. Calm down guy
I can't really vote (so I didn't). Everything works (I could), I just think that I've seen David land alot of sweet runs as well as the other two, but Jordan hits more unique runs and Penske busts stuff I dream to able to do. They all have their own special qualities, but to break it down to "who's the best, in the US" then I'd have to bring in outside sources. For example, on another thread someone posted that "when viewed by a noobie, David makes footbag look hard, Jordan makes it look technical, and Penske makes it look smooth". Thats not exact quotes, but the jest of many I read about these kinds of things. Thats also my op. But I can't place one in the top with out having only these three players compete against each other for the title.

Great topic Jeremy. Intriguing. I'm as interested in people's answers as I am with the question to be honest. Surely this is a purely speculative question, and you don't really need to state that there is "no right answer." I don't know, it just seems that people seem to think that whoever wins the poll actually will be then determined to be the best player in North America. I don't see what's wrong with asking such a question.
I've never played with any of those players, so my vote may be meaningless, but I voted anyway. I voted for Penske because I just think that of those players he is technically the best. It's obviously very close, and if I voted today, instead of yesterday, I think I would vote for Clavens instead. Tomorrow I would probably vote Moir. My feeling, when I voted, was simply that my impression from watching footbag videos is that Penske hits highly technical moves better than the other players. That's not to say they don't hit moves with the same technicality, or perhaps even more, it's that I think Penske's form is slightly better on a lot of tricks. And then today I thought about it, reading this topic, and decided that Clavens form might be better. Going by competition results, there is obviously a very strong argument that Moir is the best as well, and probably the reason I haven't felt like voting for him after my initial vote (when I couldn't see who was winning) was just my emotional response of not wanting to support the majority.
Still, emotional responses aside, that's how I feel (or felt when I voted anyway) - Penske's the best, because he hits moves the best.
Does this mean anything? Of course not. Is it fun to ponder the question anyway? Definitely.

I don't even give a shit about this topic but I had to comment to the above post. Jeremy, I don't know what your talking about.
Penske hits tricks better than me and Jorden? Did we watch the same marius, the same clownface, the same blurry flux? Have you ever seen jorden do blurry flux? The bag is his bitch.
Penske is so skilled its rediculous, but his form is not the best out of the three of us. Jorden's is. Penske's ankles help him a lot, and he gets a lot of good saves with them, and he does have cool flare on a lot of his moves. But to say that he hits tricks better than us is just wrong.
I am the first one to sit down and watch Penske, but its for his sickness and outstanding technicality, not because his superfly's look textbook.

And... Dave doesnt make footbag look harder than anyone else. Personally, his facial expression while playing and arm posture (that doesnt make sense, but you get it) make it look easier than other people.
If you want someone to make footbag look hard, watch me play. I clench my teeth and and hands. Dave's mouth is always open and relaxed, and his palms are open and arms are natural. If you ask me, it makes footbag look unnaturally natural

opinions, opinions. No need to get all bent out of shape Griese !
It is a hard question to answer. Jeremy made his best effort and thats all I can ask. IMO, Dave, you make footbag look easy, too easy. If it looks so easy, you should be hitting harder combos! w/e
For the record, I won't tell who I chose.
But I will say that I love jorden's uniqueness, and I prefer his style for certain tricks the best out of anyone. I love watching penske's shred because it look so intense. He definitely has a unique style for his tricks that nobody can emulate. Dave makes everything look so easy. He hits a little bit of everything, and seems to have a command of almost all concepts. He is also starting to push the uniqueness with blazing tricks, which I like.

Uniqueness - Jorden
Consistency - David
Style... totally subjective.

I wonder if Dave, Jim, and Jorden like being discussed publicly in this way. They're not sports icons or anything. As of now, they're just footbag players like the rest of the people who compete. I know that we do discuss this stuff regularly, but this feels a bit too pointed.
Everyone expects to talk about Tiger Woods or Peyton Manning publicly. They're national superstars getting paid big bucks for what they do. These 3 guys we see at tournaments all the time. I don't feel comfortable stating who is best or why Jorden's uniqueness is better than Dave's consistency, etc. I think it cheapens some of the mystique that these players hold.
And even though we all know it's subjective, you're forcing people to make a cut and dry answer. Which forces them to choose. Which in turn objectifies the people you're speaking about. Again, they're not icons, they're are friends and fellow footbaggers. Let's try to give them the respect they would give to us.
Now if you REALLY want to find out who's best from a competition standpoint, then let the wins speak for themselves. Tally up all the rankings for every event that Dave, Jim, and Jorden have competed in over the past 2 years. Whoever has the highest overall ranking is 'the best', because that's how sports athletes are gauged. On RESULTS.

shredzilla...Hummmmm good point.
I don't know though, I think although we're all at the same "level", as far as the footbaggin community goes, I still think I'm able "idol" or "look-up-to" players like these 3. In my view, Manning is a pro football player, he takes his game seriously, more so than the "average joe". Dave, Jim, Jordan, they all take their game to the "next level" with just as much effort as one of them footballer guys, more so than the "average joe". I'm an "average joe" (or matt). If I cared about football, I'd look up to those guys, but I don't. I care about footbag. well you get my point, regardless of our Friendship level, we have the indiviual right to idolize whomever we choose. Peace.

What's with the aggression? I didn't mean any offence. You're entitled to your own opinions. Certainly there are moves that everybody hits well, and moves that they don't hit so well. I'm not going to start attacking other players styles, and comment on what I don't like about them. I just personally think Penske has really good for on a lot of stuff. Obviously the three of you are all good, that's why you're the three people being discussed. It's obviously better if we don't share our opinions, and only communicate on issues where there can be no disagreement.david wrote:I don't even give a shit about this topic but I had to comment to the above post. I think there is as much discrepancy between what the 3 of us consider good footbag as the opinions between the people debating the subject.

I didn't say it's right to call them out of the crowd and point fingers at whose the best. I'm just saying that if you think ones better than the other then...cool. That's your right, and that's what was asked for the question in this topic. As far as pointing fingers, I choose not to. You can too, then you won't be calling anybody out or placing them up on an imaginary shelf. You can then just post the positives about their game that you notice. Besides this is under general footbag. And also, I thought I was showing some discretion?shredzilla wrote:Just because you have the 'right' to do something, doesn't make it 'right' to do it.
