When we start actually NEEDING 8 and 16 gigs of RAM on a PC, yes you will notice a difference. I notice an absolutely monstrous difference between 1 gig of 533Mhz RAM and 2 gigs of 800 Mhz RAM. Its huge. At the moment most PC's just don't really need more than 4 gigs of ram so you're not gonna notice that much of a diff. Wait until they bring out DDR3 RAM for motherboards, theres gonna be a massive difference. A massive difference.

Highly unlikely. It's just getting too fast for you to even notice it... You're only human. With 2GB of RAM, you can do a lot of shit with instant responses from your computer. Gaming, websurfing, playing music videos, playing music, downloading stuff, run a brute force hack (very laggy program to use)... 2GB is already a lot. More than what most people need. These computer don't need to get faster, they need to use fewer resources, and become longer lasting. All I want is a gig of RAM, 120GB HD, 17'' LCD screen, a modern video card, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere, Microsoft Office '03, and that's it. I would be more than happy with that. Forever. I could never want anything else in a computer. This 16GB of RAM that Apple's got goin' on, and 4x 750GB HDs.... wtf? I love Apple products... but that is totally over kill. I'd rather just have a 20 year warranty on my computer, lol.

Depending on what you do on the computer you will definitely see a difference.
Say when you work with some CAD programs ... At my High School our CAD computers had 2GB of ram and 1.8Ghz duo-core processors. And some kind of 512mb pci express video cards. These were great machines, but one you got to more detailed drawings or high resolution renderings things got really slow.
In that class we also had 4 more powerful computers running 4gb of ram and 2.4 ghz duo-core processors. And renderings, for instance, that took 30 minutes on the "weaker" machine was now cut down to 20 minutes.

You won't tell the difference if you just use your computer for internet ... but you will tell the difference if you use programs that demand such high performance.

As hardware technology improves, the requirements of software does as well. Simple as that. newer is always better. I went and bought an X1950 Pro on the weekend cos my 6600GT which used to be pro just couldn't run CnC 3 well.
