First of all, you are not a footbag company. You are a freelance footbag stitcher. Big difference.

Second of all, online businesses, as a rule of thumb (not fact), will always have a much more limited stock reserved for online sales than on the field within a retail store. Footbag companies, or companies in general by and large, will always try to find the most convenient and quickest route to spur business within the buy/sell practice. Whatever takes the least manpower to get what is necessary, and the quickest, most efficient, and least costly/most revenue gaining approach to getting the sale is the route to take. So, in layman's terms, "one-button-click" investments on the internet take the least involvement in getting this process over with. This is why they would have this disclaimer for you to read; it's for practical reasons, not sentimental reasons.

I don't know if the message you received was necessarily from Field's Fabrics, but if it is, don't take it to personally.

Back on investing facile: just get some facile. Plain and simple. You don't need to bark at every negative detail in getting the fabric (pricing, negative quip at footbag companies, etc.). Samples are samples; getting something for free doesn't necessarily mean you're getting something good in return, or have a dandy advantageous opportunity to reap on.
However, here on modified we know what we're talking about, especially the veteran footbag stitchers that have spent years making footbags. We've been through shit and hell to get what we need, and we produce amazing stuff with what we find.

And we've found that Field's Fabrics is a very efficient website to buy facile from.

I know I'm not a footbag company. I was trying what Zac Miley suggested. I never said you people don't know what you're talking about at any point in time. I didn't realize wanting to try something before I buy it was such a horrible thing.

It wasn't fields fabrics. It was ultrasuede.com. If I can't find ultrasuede at a local retail store, I don't know how the hell I'm supposed to feel what it's like to have any idea whether or not it's what I want for whatever I'm going to use it for. Since then, I have seen and felt it thanks to Zach and Nick, but that's not the point.

It doesn't matter if I'm a footbag company or not, because they said they specifically DO NOT sell to footbag companies. Apparently they have something against footbag. I'm not taking it personally, I just find it very arrogant and dumb to just single out a particular group of people that would give them business and refuse to sell to them. What if someone from their company came to the pharmacy where I work, and I refused to fill their prescription just because they work for a fabric company. "we don't sell medicine to fabric makers. I suggest you find another pharmacy." I don't think that would make them very happy, and it's a stupid move to turn potential customers away.

OR

Hello, my name is Alex and I am the CEO of a new company, Rainbow Footbags. We are interested in using your fabrics to make footbags and promote the alternative sport of footbag. Our website is www.rainbowfootbags.com.

We hope to use you material "Ultrasuede Light." Get back to us on this and we can work out a plan.
(But way better)

If you were a fabric company, which would you believe?

Well spotted. I think the main issue here is how you presented yourself. Im pretty positive they dont turn down all footbag companies and im also pretty sure not many footbag companies have contacted ultrasuede.com to work out deals/negotiate free giveaways.
Magus86 wrote: I didn't realize wanting to try something before I buy it was such a horrible thing.
This is nearly an identical problem as before. You have had repeated opinions from the community on modified on both forums. What we are saying is that there is a history of these things being used (shoes and fabrics). Both are pretty well used and supported by the footbag community and we have no reason to hide it. (and dont say that you never said that or that you never said we said we did (have a reason to hide it) because you didnt and we didnt, its aside the point)
That aside, wanting to try things out before you spend money is respectable. But what do you have to base your judgements on?
And at this current point, I know you have both tried lavers and felt facile. I hope at one point after asking for the help from the community that you can recieve it with a light heart man. We all know everyone is different and has different preferences for every aspect of the sport, but what better way to give advice/suggestions to people who you dont know and who havnt really developed a preference besides placing them on the bandwagon of what everyone else has done to develop their preferences?

Okay magus, I thought you could do this by yourself, but I guess not.

Step one: Take two of the ultrasuede light colors that you really like from here (Click on Ultrasuede Light Jungle prints, ultrasuede light extrawide and sometimes ultrasuede specials) http://www.fieldsfabricsonline.com/Ultr ... r_c_8.html

Step two: Paste the item number and color onto the lines at this page http://www.fieldsfabricsonline.com/Sing ... _p_57.html

Step three: Check out!

You will get two 2x2 samples of what you ordered.

There, 2 free samples of what you ordered.

@Ramen
Seriously, do you know how much a 2x2 piece. With small templates you can only get about 4 (total) pent/hexes per sample. Larger template less than that. That leaves you with eight or fewer pieces which isnt even enough to use as just pents on a 32 panel.

I fucking did that already, Ramen. Here we go again with people not knowing how to read. I said in an earlier post that I ordered samples from fields and tried to get some from ultrasuede.com. And both of these attempts took place BEFORE I had a chance to try ultrasuede. I never said I didn't believe anybody, god damnit. But maybe I like to see things for myself.

That's why I wanted to at least FEEL it before I spend money on it, especially when it's $30 a yard. And I highly doubt that everybody on this forum has tried every single type of fabric ever made for footbags. I don't see the harm in experimenting with different fabrics. You people act like there's a specific formula that must be followed to the fucking T for ANYTHING to be good, and if one little factor is off, all hell will break loose and I'll just have the worst footbag ever. Maybe I'm not looking for the same exact factors in a footbag that most of you are. Have you never heard of something called PERSONAL PREFERENCE?

I must be the only one who doesn't just get an impulse and run out to buy shit immediately. Do you people not test drive a car before you buy it? Do you not look at a house/apartment before you buy/rent it? Do you just hear from a company that their shit's the best and then go buy it? Do you have the ability to think for yourselves AT ALL? And for the love of god, would you learn how the fuck to read? I know there's a goddamn history behind this, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't find out for myself first. You're right, this IS an identical problem. People can't fuckin read and expect me to run out and blow money on something I know nothing about. They can't understand the concept of something being expensive, apparently. And I keep getting bitched at after shit's already been fucking resolved.

And whether or not they turn down every single footbag company who wants to try their shit is irrelevant because they told me they don't even SELL to footbag companies. I'm going by what they said. Either way, none of this matters anymore because I'm already getting samples from fields.

hummm... i have only read 2 topics you have posted in, and they both have gone sour. And yet most other topics on the forum generally flow along fine without any issue. The only common denominator seems to be you. Maybe it's not the way everyone else reads, but the way you write?

you have to buy things to try them out.
I buy small amounts of fabric that feel or look good...
Then I test them by making footbags with them.
Somtimes what feels or looks good will not work well when turned into a footbag. I try out more fabrics then most other stitchers i know, and i have bought a lot of unusable fabric unfortunately.
my point is, you have to buy something to try it out. soo suck it up and spend some bucks or you will never find cool fabrics for footbags.

If you've only read two I've posted in, try reading some more... That is, if it's not too much for you to handle. Judging from the shitty reading comprehension of the average user here, I'd say it probably is. It's not my fault people can't read, put words in my mouth, and assume shit. I don't have control over anybody but myself.

No, you DON'T have to buy things to try them out... Are you retarded? You've never heard of a video rental store? You've never test driven a car before buying it? Wow... just fucking wow... I already HAVE bought and tested fabric for footbags. It just didn't cost me $30 a yard.

yes, videos cost money to rent everywhere!

its not like you have to buy a yard, 1/8 of a yard is about 6-7 bucks and will make a ton of footbags.

and if you asked around more politely, maybe someone would be willing to send you some of their ultrasuede scraps to make a bag or 2.

PM me if you want enough USL to make 2 bags and I can send you some free just to prove to you how good the fabric is for footbags.

I'm aware that rentals cost money. I didn't say they didn't, but you said you have to buy something to try it, and renting isn't the same as buying.

Anyway, that's okay I don't need anybody to send me fabric scraps. I already have some samples coming from fields, as I said earlier. Thanks for the offer anyway though. But I do have a question. How wide is the ultrasuede ?

By the way, I know just because a fabric feels good doesn't mean it will necessarily work well as a footbag, but I'll have a much better idea by feeling it than just looking at a picture on the internet.

If I went to Ultrasuede.com to buy ultrasuede to make footbags, all id have to do is spend money like any other person and turn it into a footbag.

Congratulations, have fun with a couple 2''x2'' scraps which will turn out less than half a bag.

It's okay, Ramen. Sorry I reacted so harshly. It seemed to me at the time that by saying I couldn't do it you were implying I'm dumb or something. It's just getting rather annoying that I keep catching shit for things that are already resolved and things I didn't even say from all angles.

Donovon, I didn't ever say I didn't like ultrasuede. I just don't feel like spending the money at the moment, and before playing with Nick and Zach, as far as I knew, getting free samples was the quickest way for me to get a chance to feel it and see how well it works and if I like it or not. Plus, I already have some other fabric on its way, so I'm not planning to get any more for a little while. Also, What makes you think I'll only get half a bag out of it? Who says I necessarily only make 32 panel bags? I'm sure I could get at least a 4 panel out of it.

The point was that they did not say "we do not send or sell samples to freelance footbag stitchers." They're the ones who mentioned footbag companies and said they don't sell to them. They have a sample request form that requires you to put in a company name. Zac Miley suggested I pretend to be a company to get some samples and said he's done it before.

If it's respectable to want to see things for myself and not just go on the word of other people(this is how rumors get started, btw), then why is it that I keep catching shit for it?

And could someone please tell me how wide the ultrasuede is?

It usually depends on the company.
Most of the usl sold on fields is 58" wide (hence .125" in length can go quite a long way).
Just check the specs where you buy it/are looking at.
