how about pixies started from outside instead of toe.. should they deserve another name or still call them pixie? I know nobody does them but I like them

I believe they are referred to as 'outside pixie'. Not truly a different set, but a variation of pixie, like inside fairy or inside atomic.
Cool but impractical IMO.

i like the idea of fixing the naming issues to make things easier, but i also think that giving names to moves that are already easy to say (like witchdoctor) is hypocritical to this thread.

edit: you have to remember that there are alot of footbaggers who don't know every word in the english vocabulary. so making the correlation between massacre and slaughter would be pointless.

why would we name downtime withdoctor before we distinguish downtime flux and atomic osis? that is something that is actually hit by people.

That was me.

And it was originally INFLUX, but people just took to called it FLUX for short.

And people have been hitting it since before moves were "Atomic" (with the possible exception of Atom Smasher) and before we used phrases like "up-time" and "down-time", and probably before anybody really even thought of those two options as making a move different.

I wasn't there when flux was invented or named, but Torque is among the oldest four-adds, and if you think about it the idea of doing the dex out-to-in instead of in-to-out probably didn't take too long to emerge (Influx has been around since before Ben Jobs invented his codifying system where-in all dexes were labled as IN-to-out or OUT-to-in, not that we had any trouble telling them apart, we just didn't all use the same convenient short-hand way of expressing it. This is obviously the case, otherwise the move would have been named Outflux. The IN wasn't dropped from the name because it was and OUT dex, probably just because it was simpler to say without loosing any of the coolness of the name).

What's the point of all this? I'm not sure. Mike asked. Maybe the point is that just because everybody thats been playing for the last four years and automatically assumes that Atomic Osis is called Flux, and doing it as a down-time dex instead of an up-time dex must make it some move OTHER than Flux, well, maybe your assumptions are not based on a long enough perspective.

What do you mean by this, James? Using Outside Pixies are impracticle, or giving a whole different name to Outside Pixies is impracticle? I'd agree with the latter, but not with the former.

So flux was originally the name for atomic muted op osis. I always thought flux a reverse torque (all downtime), and it makes more sense like that, not only with the correlation of the name and the visual component of the move, but in the fact that downtime moves need to be distinguished. Atomic osis and atomic ss osis suffice for their respective moves. But a downtime reverse torque NEEDS to be distinguished, because it is not the same kind of move. Downtime moves are different than set moves. You're right Chris, there HAS to be a distinction between flux and atomic op osis...and I just made it. Just like there has to be a distinction between atomic op symp mirage and reverse miraging op symp mirage. One has uptime components, the other does not. The first one is called witchdocter, the second is...not a witchdocter. It is fundamentally different. Why was massacre named? Why didn't they just called it dt bs omelette? Because it's NOT a downtime atomic something, atomic is UPtime. And hiding the atomic set in the name 'omelette' only confuses the issue further. Solution? ALL moves that can be down ENTIRELY in downtime should be considered CORE moves with their own distinction from anything else (including name).

And I'm pretty sure most people are familiar with the words massacre and slaughter. Wouldn't it be a good thing if you could also learn vocabulary through footbag!? Isn't having wacky names for moves a part of what makes footbag so cool?

Who cares about how concepts weren't around in the old days, because footbag has evolved since then, and that is a good thing. The fact is we have more knowledge of the sport than we did 10 years ago and we must embrace it, not cling to the obsolete. We now HAVE the vocabulary to further concieve and percieve what it is we are doing, and this can only help the sport. I am proposing we have a more decisive hand in shaping and finalising these issues.
