I voted for Kevin, because I really like the combo, and it is so clean.
My second choice was Jeremy.
If I should critisise my choice, then Kevins combo was too easy, especially taking the Phoenix into consideration. In my mind, Phoenix is the closest thing, expept for a really lousy dada, you can come at cheating in footbag. Sorry, but I'm sick of that move.
Jeremy, your combo is very cool, but in general I'm not fond of Shooting either since almost nobody does it clean enough for me to consider it clean. I can't tell in this case either, and thus I judge it "not as clean as it could have been
". Again, Phoenix. But finaly, a very, very nice Superfly!
Anssi, I liked the combo, but not the shape of the PDX Torque. Close, close contender.
Byrin, I can't tell if that Barfly is clean. And then it doesn't count, sorry!
Chris, Too bad with two pixies on the same side, and I think both the paradon-dex and the whirl-dex could be made more clear, it looks like you only juuust make them.
Ben, It's a cool combo, but I can't really tell whats going on...

Re: DIVISION 1 - COMPETITION #2 - VOTE NOW!
First off, just want to clarify my last post: I just thought it was mathematically interesting that the votes worked out how there was a 10 vote difference between 2nd and last.
I voted like a week ago, but I decided I would hold off my analysis until the voting was done, or almost so. That said, I am going to break down my analysis of this round by first analyzing the merit of the combo theoretically, then analyzing the merit of the combo as executed.
In order:
Anssi Sundberg
Ripwalk > Janiwalker > Paradox Torque
Theory: The strength of this combo is the midstring janiwalker. Its the hardest trick in the combo, and the hardest link. I feel that pdx torque as the last trick of a sick 3 isnt that impressive, since you can play into pdx torque off of even shaky clipper sets. The ripwalk at the beginning hurts this combo`s chances, since its easy, but playing out of it with Jani helps it.
Practice: Everything was executed cleanly, and I like the way Anssi`s pdx torques look. But again, the ripwalk hurt it. This was a close second place in my opinion. I really liked Anssi`s combos in both rounds, I hope he keeps submitting.
Jeremy O'Wheel
Shooting Mirage > Phoenix > Superfly
Theory: Phoenix is an easy trick, and I don`t find it very `sick.` Shooting mirage is a hard trick, and worthy in a sick 3. Superfly is a hard, cool trick, but I prefer it as the 2nd or 1st trick, since I think it is somewhat easy to play out of an uncontrolled clipper with it. It definitely requires more control than PS whirl though. In theory, this combo probably wins the comp in my book.
Practice: I`m not so sure about the shoot. Even in slow mo, the angle makes it hard to tell if the bag is released before the first dex or not. Phoenix and Superfly were clean. I voted for this combo as the best, but I thought Jeremy`s combo in the first round was better (unrelated to my voting).
Chris May
Backside Smear > Pixie Paradon > PS Whirl
Theory: This combo has 2 weak points, imo. The first is the use of the same pixie set twice in the combo. Also, pixie-ing out of a symp mirage move isn`t that hard, as compared to a spin move or some triple dexes. The main flaw with this combo though is the PS Whirl at the end. PS whirl is one of the easiest 5s out there, and I don`t even think it deserves a pdx add. From personal experience, I know that hitting PS whirl out of any clipper move is easy, and requires less control on the preceding trick than say, a step or a spin would. Pixie paradon is a nice trick, but I think the difficulty of the other 2 tricks was a bit low for Division 1.
Practice: I thought the dexes on the paradon were thin, and the PS whirl was very thin and didn`t show much control. I would have preferred to see an easier combo, but hit with more control. Still, a nice attempt.
Ben Barrows
Phoenix > Swirl > Paradox Blender
Theory: Phoenix, especially as the first trick, doesn`t strike me as `sick.` A creative 4, like Anssi`s zulu butterfly gets more props from me than PS whirl, pdx blender, or phoenix. The swirl is real styly, and mid-combo is hard, so I like that. Pdx blender falls into the category of pdx torque/ps whirl/ etc in that it doesnt require that much control on the preceding trick. But the main problem for me is that swirl and pdx blender are such similar tricks.
Practice: I found it so hard to see, I had trouble not only judging whether the combo was hit cleanly, but whether or not it was ben barrows.
Kevin Regamey
phoenix-bubba egg- pixie same flail
Theory: You know my thoughts on phoenix, especially as the first trick. bubba egg gets style points. Use of the same pixie hurts the combo. Pixie same flail is very hard and cool. A contender.
Practice: Superb bubba egg. Phoenix is good too. The flail dex looked kinda iffy to me. It may have been clean. But I would have liked to see it cleaner. That combined with the phoenix/repeated same pixie set hurt its chances. Probably 3rd in my voting. But nice to see you in Open!
Byrin Wylie
Backside Legbeater > Blender > Barfly
Theory: Nice combo, but a little too easy for Division 1. I also feel that the whole combo had the same leg doing all the work.
Practice: Not so sure about the cleanliness of the last move.
Crap, gotta go teach. More later. Thanks to the players for submitting combos and vids again!

Thanks for the indepth analysis ken
Yeah, though I felt this combo was better than last weeks (difficulty), I did know it still probably wasn't going to be good enough to be a major contender.
But where else do I compete? Division's 2 combos are too easy (though they were very good I must say) and Division 1 combos are just one step away from what I can hit. I'm caught in the middle I think. But it is still fun to compete anyways, regardless if I win or not.

Yeah pretty accurate I think Ken - good.
Just a couple of things I wanted to mention about my combo. Firstly if you pause the video the frame before the bag disappears behind my leg on the shooting set - first dex - you can see that the bag is off my foot or coming off my foot - and the first dexing foot is on the ground. So in my opinion it's definitly clean.
Secondly I think that pixie ducking out of shooting mirage is a hard combo - it means you have to hit a very good shooting mirage - or you will scoop up the toe stall and not be able to hit it - I've only been able to hit pixie sets out of shooting mirage pretty recently (actually the first time I tried was probably for my first sick 3
). I also find sailing out of shooting easier than pixie ducking because sailing has a lower set.
Also in relation to what a few other people have said. When judging you should try and be objective!! - You should try and not let your biases towards particular moves change effect your judgement. Ok so I set a bad example voting for Byrin based on the symposium butterfly - but that was just me joking around and wanting to try and have a close competition. I don't think your opinions of shooting sets should be taken into account at all. That's like judging a routine poorly because you don't like the music or the shorts the person is wearing. Judging a sick 3 is not asking you if you like the moves or not - but simply asking which is the best or hardest combo.
It's the same as judging based on if the combos or links are hard particularly for the person hitting the combo or for you the judge. You shouldn't take these into account at all!! - You should judge based on what you think is the hardest or the best overall combo. My combo this week took way more attempts than my combo last week and I think is definitly a harder combo for me personally. But I think 99% of people would find my combo from last week way harder - I think my combo last round took me less than 10 attempts. While my combo this round took about 12 attempts to hit the first time and about 50 or 60 attempts to hit a second time.
Anyway I hope I don't come across as winging because not everybody voted for me (I'm actually really glad the vote is closer!) - but I really think you have to try and be as objective as possible - Ken's post is a great example of objectivity - That's what judging is all about!!

Re: DIVISION 1 - COMPETITION #2 - VOTE NOW!
I'll keep it short.
In order:
Anssi Sundberg
Ripwalk > Janiwalker > Paradox Torque
Ripwalk is too easy
Jeremy O'Wheel
Shooting Mirage > Phoenix > Superfly
got my vote, I like the way you shoot. Although you mentioned how Anssi was off balance after his pdx torque you were just as off balance out of that superfly. I like your style though
Chris May
Backside Smear > Pixie Paradon > PS Whirl
Nice combo. It looks like your pushing your limit which is good but the last move wasn't smooth
Ben Barrows
Phoenix > Swirl > Paradox Blender
what can you do with your left foot?
Kevin Regamey
phoenix-bubba egg- pixie same flail
second place for me. a little one-sided but I'm getting pretty picky there. I think it just needs to be harder or more creative?
Byrin Wylie
Backside Legbeater > Blender > Barfly
I like the first move but blender>barfly isn't that hard and it's one-sided.
I like the sick three online comps
Fun stuff. I also like being able to comment. Not being able to comment defeats the purpose of an online forum don'tchathink??

I still think these combos are too easy for Sick 3. Not that I could do any better, but as a spectator so many of them are old and tired and been there and seen that.
I voted for Jeremy by a narrow margin. The shooting mirage was the only really interesting move in the combo and I've seen better out of him.
I think it was awesome for Kevin to come into Div 1. However I think his combo was better suited to win Div 2.
Ripwalks, Blenders and Barflys aren't Division 1 combos.
This is a video competition so it's not like you only get 3 tries and then it's over. You get the benefit of filming youself for weeks on end and then submitting your best combo.
Div 1 should be 5's and higher or unusual and creative 3's and 4's.
For instance a possible winning or but at least acceptable entry that includes 3's and 4's would be
Symposium Swirling Toe > Front side Grifter > Diving drifter
See I figure that none of these would combos would win a major competition and with the amount of talent and time allowed, we should all see some groundbreaking shit.
That's just my opinion.

I think you shouldnt be thinking about what division you should enter in order to win it. The combos you hit mean that you cant compete lower than Division 1 without attracting critiscism from the whole forum. Practice lots and hit a harder combo than the other Division 1 competitors!Shredster wrote: But where else do I compete? 1 Vasek - (Janiwalker-Superfly-Frontside Symp. Flurry)
2 Honza - (Alpine Legbeater - Fog - Pixie same Blender)
3 Donner Oleg - (Pixie Tapping Butter - Pdx legbeater - Blurriest)
4 Siegert Stefan - (Symp. Quantum Legover - Slapping Legover - Frantic
legover)
I think both of my combos would have definitly made the top three and come very close to 2nd. I think my one from the first round would be been second for sure - maybe even better considering the links - This round just gone I think Honza's combo is better - but not by much - mainly because hitting superfly out of something isn't too hard - had it been torch-r-rack at the end I would go with my combo over his.
I dunno - maybe I have too high an opinion of myself
Once again, it appears we are confusing and assuming division 1 is Open class.Ripwalks, Blenders and Barflys aren't Division 1 combos.
The straight fact is that, division 1's combos are technically harder than division 2. That's all that matters.
Do we really have to hit vasek like combos to be classified as division 1? Or do we just have to be better than division 2? I think and agree with the latter.

I totally agree as well. Comparing the Sick 3s here with those seen at major competitions is a useless exercise.
What difference does it make? Sick 3 is about hitting the best combo. Jeremy's combo was the best out of those submitted. What else is there?

If players spent weeks on a single sick 3 that wold be an awful waste of taining time. I think we should be thankful to get the awsome combos we got. The only one who should be complaining is Jeremy.Splint wrote:

Saying "you're not good enough" doesn't motivate people to put out better videos.
