It gives people many sleepless nights pondering what strange and confusing things are happening at footbag.org and they realise that at all their favourite clubs and bars men in red pendleton shirts are getting incredible kicks behind closed doors from things they will never understand.

There are lots of people who're looking to contribute to the community in some way or another, but taking the path of least resistance, they develope independant projects. A prime (and current!) example is Matt Cross looking to work the moves list on this forum. A noble cause, but that sort of project would be most beneficial if done directly on .ORG, specifically on the moves list. So here we have a situation of someone looking to do work, and sparking interest in the community to go through with it, but since nobody has the keys to .ORG, it'll have to be done here.

All that said, I do understand your rationalle. And I really do appretiate the work being done.

and I agree that modified should be transferred to .org The optimal solution would be to merge the two databases but that's alot of work. I say make a "hard copy" of modified and keep it accessible through .org but let this community continue to exist through .org so that as a whole we are more powerful and more able to promote this sport.

I'd say this actually the path of greatest resistance. Why re-invent the wheel instead of leveraging existing resources?

I just don't get it. The moves list has always been open to community collaboration. It was started and has been maintained by various members of the community over the years. It is set up specifically with this purpose in mind.

Literally, at least once a year, (sometimes more) someone gets all passionate about the moves list and complains about how horribly out of date it is.

We then proceed to tell them that they are welcome to have administrative access to the list to add as many moves as they want and to change out of date info.

They make us go through the trouble of giving them permissions, and explaining how it works and then they promptly drop interest in the project and stop doing any work on it.

This is not to flame anyone who has spent time on working on the list - any and all work is appreciated - but the issue is finding someone who is willing to stick with it and act as a moves list administrator.

The system is even set up to allow multiple admins. Hell, I'm one of them! So, this particular point is moot. There are people who "have the keys" to footbag.org (again, I'm one of them) and we are more than willing to accept help from people who volunteer to do so. Just don't waste our time by volunteering and then disappearing.

Most major sections of footbag.org are in this same situation. The FAQ is open to user administration; the links section; the clubs; the galleries; the rule book - it's all totally open to anyone in the community to simply email Steve or myself and ask to be let in to do work.

But no one does. Those that do haven't been willing to stick with it.

In my 8 years being involved in online collaboration with footbag.org it seems to me that freestylers are excellent at bitching and complaining about what needs to be done, but extremely few are willing to put their money where their mouths are and actually DO SOMETHING to remedy the situation. Freestylers are great at doing nothing and then wondering why nothing happens....

Whatever though, I'm ranting. There are innovations coming down the pipes from Steve that will change your footbag world.... that's all I have to say

I just want to point out that I first started playing footbag in December of 2003 and it was like november when I joined modified. I had never heard of it. If it wasnt for me finding footbag directly through seeing Dan kick in public then I wouldnt have been able to continue on. Like Jeremy said, from now on im just going to post on footbag.org. Goodbye modified. (BTW I will look on modified to learn but I will add only to footbag.org. The only exception is my beloved blog)

I suppose I shouldn't post if I'm not going to follow up.

I highly doubt Steve would allow direct access to the database unless you had a really good proposal for why.

I've had a couple of inquiries about access to the moves list since my little rant above, so I wanted to mention that we are not, as of a few weeks ago, accepting new administrators for any of the area's on footbag.org.

The reason for this is that the site is undergoing some major overhauling that has required Steve to disable many of the higher level admin functions (like adding new moves).

In the next little bit, we'll be unveiling some of the new features, but the moves list is still, at very least, a month away. When it is opened back up, you will be astonished

So, for the time being, while we greatly appreciate the offers of help, it's going to be a little bit yet before we can act on any of it. It will be well worth the wait.

PS I am actually logged in to post to these forums about once every two weeks, and I truly dislike the Private Messaging concept, so not only will I not see any PM's sent to me for up to several weeks at a time, but I'm not too likely to actually repsond as I use email for communication ... just sayin'
