yeah I never understood why parents do that? My great grandma would try to tell me to eat all the food on my plate. I always said I couldn't because I was full. Any normal person would understand that.

Another thing was I never understood why kids are so afraid of telling their parents no or sticking up for themselves when they feel their parents are stepping over some boundaries. Parents aren't always right, not even close. I say do what you want, eat what you want and however much of it you want. If I were you, I would tell him to go F himself, but not in those words of course

I think when you get older you'll probably understand that your parents do want the best for you and probably you're making a bit of a fuss over a fairly insignificant thing. I guess part of being a teenager is rebelling against your parents though.

I say eat less during the day and don't complain. Kids should speak when spoken too - or better yet - be seen but not heard - this applies to everybody under the age of 18 ;)

Wise & true. Parents parent the way they were parented. The majority of parents do not parent properly. Simply giving respect to someone who does not deserve it has only led to bad things (Bush/Saddam/Clay Aiken)

I say it its not like that much more food then try to eat what you can of it , it gains respect of your parents which you really need while being a teenager which I still am and try to obey them in any way. It is the parents house so they make rules to follow by. Follow those rules and you will be good to go. As long as your still living with your parents then you have to obey and go by there rules , when you move out thats when it changes , if you can eat all the food then tell him , "dad, Im trying to respect and follow you in everyway but I just cant finish the rest of my food and even though you might be mad I still want you to know that I respect you and your rules" or somthing to that extent , it doesnt hurt to talk to your parents about your feelings and such.
well I hope it works out

yay go parents!

Jeremy, I will say that is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard you say, if you were serious that is  :P

To what joe said - I think sometimes parents just cross the lines. If they feel the need stop respecting you for a insignificant reason such as not finishing your plate, let them go crazy with that. Personally, I didn't need some sort of false respect which is earned (and lost  ) by doing every little crazy thing my parents came up with. Why should a child respect their parents who don't respect them back? Personally, I don't buy into the whole ideal of no matter what your parents are right bullshit, after all, we are all hu . . .

Oh wait, sorry everyone. I was starting to think logically there for a second. Just do whatever *they say, do whatever *they want you to do, never say no to anything *they say, and definately never question anything because we all know they are always right and know whats best.

Damn, I really feel sorry for kids like that, I don't see how you can be so weak

well, I think jeremy should get his ass kicked...and shouldnt speak either. haha, i kid. to a point. but, im totally against the whole "getting mature and hitting and epiphany when you get older that makes you realize your parents were actually really good parents, and knew what they were doing. it may sometimes be true, but not always. i really hope i dont change at all, and i dont pretend to respect my parents or get along with them anymore than i do now. and i turn 18 in a couple weeks; so far, so good. actually, i dont think kids under 18 (i still think of myself as a child) are that mature or intelligent, i just dont think we get any more mature or intelligen going into adulthood. some people never change, especially on the inside. i feel like its added prestige and privileges with little having been done to earn it.

Of course I was kidding about the whole kids should be seen but not spoken to thing - I'm surprised people actually questioned the seriousness of that statement.

I'm just saying that my parents - or my step dad in particular - forced me to eat everything on my plate - well force is probably the wrong word, but told me to, and I got over it and didn't let it bother me. Parents are always telling you to do things you don't want to do. Maybe they're wrong, but really "right" and "wrong" are all about perspective. The most important thing to understand is that they're a lot older than you and so have a lot more experience.

To be honest I think the main reason my step dad made me eat everything on the plate is because he was made to and because he thinks discipline is very important - I disagree with that and I probably won't make my children eat everything on their plate - but it really depends on what they're not eating. However I trusted my step dad enough to do what he says - regardless of if I agreed or not - because I thought what he wanted me to do was in my best interests; maybe not health wise (I don't know), but definitly in terms of my relationship with him.

This whole topic sounds like a bunch of kids bitching about how their parents make them do things they don't want to. That's fine - part of being a teenager is about branching away from your parents. However I think eventually in your life you'll realise how trivial this is.

"A Ridgefield, Washington, man said it was reading the Bible that gave him the idea of circumcising his son. According to Sgt. Tony Barnes of the county sheriff's office, the man took the boy into the bathroom and used a hunting knife to perform the operation. 'When he couldn't stop the bleeding, he called 911', said Barnes. The man was taken into custody, and the eight-year-old boy was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center, where he received several stitches. The case will be referred to Child Protective Services, who have visited the nine children in the home before."

I have very little faith in the 'parenting' community. Just take a look at how many of those on these boards were spanked as kids

You may, but have you studied any of it? A simple high school psyche class would cover this

I think it's hard to side with both Jeremy and James' comments - every parent is different. My mom once made me eat peas. 12 peas later I ran to the bathroom and vomitted them all back up because I simply could not stomach it. She didn't do it because she enjoys seeing me in distress but because I was a picky eater and rarely touched anything but carrots. Now she works at a job she does not appreciate just to put food in my belly and clothes on my back. After bills she earns little but stills buys me the supplements and foods I need to help my knees get better (which aren't cheap).

Now another parent I once knew - they swore at their kids and even grounded them for stealing food out of their own home - by stealing, I mean my friend had some cookies as a snack and when his mother found out he was in for it. She smacked him good then did not allow him to leave his room for a day or two.

It all just comes down to the parent we are dealing with. Is Cody's father only doing what he thinks is right for Cody or is he just one of those people who likes to go on power trips to make themselves feel better? None of us know as we are not there living with him.

Posting problems on the internet is probably not the best way to help resolve the issue, but what done is done. I would be a bit worried and upset if my kid ever did such a thing.
