Okay, Jeremy. This is for you. This is so that we can be friends instead of being enemies. I'm gonna put my name in my sig. I have trillian now so I'll talk to you on MSN.

-Sam Colclough
Thank you Sam :) that is very mature of you.

If someone is discenting (sp?), you need to address why. Next, as a community member, you have a duty to give feedback about the rule and restrictions. If you are upset about them, give a good reason why. Mods shouldn't go over the heads of those who they are watching over. Members shouldn't explode at the mods without proper reason.
This is a very wise and true statement.

When I saw the mods put aka sam in quantum Balances sig I was tickled pink, to use a lame expresion. Sams cool, not that he'll remeber me, but Quantum Balance is a motherfucker who deserved what he got. I think alot of us are alot different than our modified personalities, witch is why my name isn't my title.

I disagree with you Nate.
I am Kiser_Tobias, and Gareth Williams, and Dead Doll.
Kiser_Tobias is my 'online' name (though I'm thinking of changing it)
Dead Doll is my artistic, or 'pen' name.
And Gareth is my given name.

Each name reperesents me and whatever I post online is a reflection of myself and who I am.
Why would I want to be an arsehole online when I might meet you in person one day. Would you honestly take accept the "It was not me, it was my 'online personality'" argument if someone hacked shit on you online and then you met them in person - especially if you wanted to kick the shit out of that 'online personality'?

I still agree with the right to privacy and the freedom of choice.

Actually I agree with Nate quite a bit. I think people tend to be very different online than they are in person. In some ways they are more of the things they would not be in person due to fear of social constrictions. Stephen Barnes for instance is very little like what he appears to be online. C-Fan as well. I know them both, but tend to blur the line between what they say online and who I know them to be.
In the case of Sam he is very different in person than he is online.

I think part of the reason lays with the reader. We often read emphasis on certain things that get said and interpret those things entirely differently than the author intended. Kinda like poetry.

I think a bit less moderation would be nice. I never liked the mandatory name in sig thing. A post about the pros for putting it in there, and telling new members they should do it is cool.

That's the way it was for a while, until you guys got hard core about the enforcing. I s'pose you have good reasons.

I suppose that everything could catch fire and melt without so much moderation. I haven't seen it, but maybe u guys have more experience.

Having said that, I still agree with the name in the sig. However, if you don't want to put your full name, I think first name plus first letter of last name would work. That way, privacy isn't completely destroyed.

However the online behavior thing is true. I participate differently in different forums. People act tougher online because there is a moniter protecting them most of the time.

Granted, some things people say online are a bit... scalding. Most of the time I think you'd be ok with meeting them in person. Especially here. Lots of different opinions, lots of different thoughts, but I'd still like to meet you guys and gals.

This is retarded. Its a motherphucking name for crying outloud. Do you honestly hate the mods for creating a policy? Its not like their making the forum a worser place by requiring your name to be in your signature. Its only so other's know who you are. If someone were to meet you at worlds, they wouldn't know what to say...probably something like:

"hey, I hear your name is quantum balance".

Okay, not to say quantum balance is a dumb name, it sounds really cool, but honestly, what type of effort does it really take to go to your profile, go to signature, and type in Sam Colclough? Its not like you have to do it everytime, in fact, do you know how many words, wasted words, you've had to type, rebelling against a signature? If you had typed the 2 words that your name consists of in the first place, when we were all asked nicely do to so, you would never have had to type any more than those two words, discussing signatures.

But hey, I'm not a moderator, but personally, without moderators, there would be a lot more topics like these. No offense to anyone here, especially Sam, but for crying out loud, what the heck is so hard about typing a signature?

I actually couldn't see any signatures today unless I was logged-in, just being registered wasn't enough.

Well, you need to log in to actually show the system that you are registered and not just some random guest.

I just think it's funny that Chris May is about 2 weeks behind the discussion ;) - thanks for the support though Chris - I think that issue has been dealt with :D

its cool, its not that i didnt want to type it in cuz it was too much work

It's simply that I was a member of this forum before signatures were required and then I didn't feel like having to do it just because someone told me to. If that is viewed as childish then I accept the fact that I am childish.

I don't get your joke. Do you not like Math?

what the heck is so hard about typing a signature?
That's obviously not the reason. And I think its better to make discussion in general and not name people.

To a degree.... I was doing that stuff in Calc 2 and it was driving me batty.

Anyways, the real reason I am here....

Perhaps we should have a masturbation thread here, considering Jeremy couldn't handle it in the kicking circle.
