on the day I got robbed, we had a session. I'd been planning to buy a bandana to hold my hair back, but I was completely robbed, so I had to use an extra pair of boxer shorts as my bandana. It was a bit bigger than my head, but I rolled it over a bunch of times, and it worked pretty well...
#50 is complete!!! I'm super pleased with how it looks. The scrumtulescent pattern that I used turned out splendiferously... I'm already thinking of some variations I could do. it has 6 colors... I'm going to do another traditional soccer ball style bag next, just in case there's people who would rather have something like that than something super colorful.

yeah, I stitched a bunch for KICKASS. Then, I've got to stitch for the Cornell Juggling Fest. It's nice having good motivators to put out footbags. It was sad selling them, admittedly, but I'm glad I got to hold on to them for a while and show them off to my friends in Fredonia before coming out to a tournament to sell them.
I definitely prefer in-person sales at tournaments. I've sold 4 of the 7 that I brought. Hopefully, the next 3 will sell today. We're having a good time so far.
As for one of my shows, you should have been here at KICKASS
I just did a show last night. Hopefully, some video of it will make it online. The crowning achievement of the performance didn't get taped, unfortunately

Sunday morning... party night last night... everyone is kind of peeling themselves off tom's floor. Skippy and Waylon and I are sitting here talking about footfighters. Finals were pretty sweet. Ben Roscoe represented good intermediate competition with long, controlled strings of 2s and 3s with some 4s thrown in, and won the intermediate circle. Tom let me choose the event that would win my bag #50, and that's the one I chose, so Ben's got it now. I'm glad he won, he really represented himself well.
I made finals in Circle Competition. I really wasn't expecting that. It was difficult keeping my body in playing condition ALL day, especially after the first two rounds, and some shred. For the first round of finals, I did TERRIBLE! I dropped on my first dex (atomic) on the first two times I got the bag, and I absolutely could NOT string anything together. I was getting psyched out following DC... he'd bust this incredible string, and then pass to me, and as I'd be starting my string while the crowd was SCREAMING for what he did (and, as you'll all see on the video, for GOOD REASON). It made me pretty tense, and I guess I wasn't warmed up after my dinner either. I was getting really bummed.
During the round break, Aric and Nick Laroche gave me some good positivity, and I did a few quick strings. The second round went much better for me, with more decent strings than early drops, and a few 5 links and ass stalls. I also took my hat off early in the second round, and I think it helped me see a bit better. So, I had a little bit of a comeback, and edged out Will Digges for 3rd place.
I had a blast doing circle. it's absolutely my favorite competition format. We were all joking around and giving props and just trying our best to put on a good show. I think the crowd really dug it.

I'm not sure how it got like this, maybe from carrying too much guitar stuff, plus footbag, plus guitar playing. it's probably a complicated mess of problems. Peng gave me a massage last night that really helped get me through finals, but I don't really see myself playing today. In fact, I'm going to go roll a joint... or maybe I'll just have a beer; I'm a little congested for a joint...

KICKASS... wow, what a good time.
I picked up Waylon Lew at the train station on friday. As we were getting his stuff out to the car, one of the very first things I noticed about him was a set of really weird looking shoes, a yellowish brownish shoe with all kinds of opposing basketweave lines all over them and suede accents... and they turned out to be lavers! How weird! I told him they were the coolest shoes I'd ever seen.
We were going to go to a coffee shop to hang out and wait for Chris Dean to get into town, but we decided instead to take an opportunity to have some good sushi. We went to California Rollin, my favorite Rochester sushi bar, and ordered bowls of sashimi. I asked the chef to include some weird stuff, and he definitely did right by us in that respect. He included sea urchin in our bowls, which I hadn't liked before, but definitely enjoyed this time because the chef to prepared it a little differently. Big difference since my last time.
The rest of our sashimi was a colorful salad of raw fish. So good, a real flavor extravaganza. We had plum beers as well. Tasty tasty... Although, I must say, it was way more a pleasure to eat than digest. I remember it settling a little funny in my stomach afterwards... Probably because it's been so long since I've had raw fish... anyway...
We picked up Chris and buzzed up to kingston. Easy drive, no problems at the border, bought a giant bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label at Duty Free (hardly any of which got consumed). We got in to Tom's place hauled our stuff and my PA up the stairs.
We unpacked and said our Hi's, and I set about to preparing party favors. Then, we all checked out the shred spot for a while. If I had to describe the room, I'd say "sketchy chic" You'll see in the videos. Which is not to say that it was a bad space or didn't do the job. The freestylers began to show up with more and more frequency, and we had a pretty packed living room back at Tom's before long.
I played a short set for the party. I played a few originals, and some fun covers, and ended up with a song of mine called The Botanist, and handed out some smoke bombs as party favors to help get the party started. Then, we ate pizza and drank and caught up on old times all night. I sold a few footbags throughout the night, and relaxed. Good times. Hope to see some pics of those bags posted, considering I've only got one myself.
Saturday, we had a breakfast sandwich and juice with the meal plan, and T/P bought us some fruits and stuff. mmmm. I had coffee and we went to the site. I did some shred to warm up, and hit a few OK things, not much. Competition went well for me during both rounds (as we'll see on video, hopefully) and I advanced to finals against some really good freestylers. I lucked out with my pools and with my strings, and I'm glad to have made it. I also sold a few more bags. I got sore in my right shoulder pretty terribly after 2 rounds of circle, and I had to have PengPeng rub it for me. She was pretty brutal, but it was worth it and felt much better.
As everyone who was there knows, I sucked bad bad BAD in finals. I wrote about it below. but the second round went better, and I got 3rd place to bevier and clavens. I love circle competition. It's a great format. I love watching it and competing in it. I can't wait to see the videos, and I'm glad Ben got my prize bag, #50.
Then, we all got pretty drunk and stumbled off to pass out.
On Sunday, I rested. I got up and consulted the coach about what to do for the rest of the day. He suggested I lay back. And so I did. Had some pastries and coffee for breakfast, then buzzed over to the site to watch some freestyle, eat some lunch, play a little guitar in a private filming session with Erik Chan (which will hopefully come to some use in the future), and just chit chat and enjoy everyone's company. I sang the birthday song for Tom and Erik and everyone sang along.
Then, I rounded up the troups, and drove home. The driving wasn't so bad, and Chris Dean took over for me long enough for me to catch a little rest, which made me feel a lot better. I can hardly move now, though. poor body.
oh, by the way, remember Waylon's shoes? The ones that I had said were the coolest ever? He gave them to me as I dropped him off at the house of a Rochesterian friend of mine where he'll sleep tonight. They're a pretty sweet set, I hope I can get a picture of them up soon.

It was great hanging out with you at KICKASS. I am so glad I went for so many reasons. Your performance Friday night at Tom's place was so sweet. It only took a few minutes of watching before I fell into that zone I fall into everytime I watch you perform. Your set had a really nice flow and after a few tunes all of the songs seem to flow together. I was really happy with the party favors you handed out. That was very generous of you.
Your shred was really good too. I could tell you were having some issues now and then. I didn't know the extent of them as you described earlier in this thread. I really liked the stylie stuff you pulled off in circle competition. I was intimidated when I found out I would be in circle competition in the same circle as you, but once the bag was tossed in it just felt like home. If you ever want to talk shop and drill hard let me know - I probably have more shred video of you than you do.
I want to type so much but life calls and I need to get some work done, especially considering I am at work right now.

I got bags a plenty at this event, and some super cool t-shirts. I love #48, but I don't have a camera to show the hotness to modified. It's a very choice bag that will serve me well.

I haven't played footbag since KICKASS. Those 3 rounds of competition in one day totally wrecked me. I didn't even try playing last sunday. Tom, if you're reading this (and I know you are ), I would put the decision to have 3 rounds on saturday, spread throughout the day, on my "things that tom might consider changing for next year" list. Considering how much amazing fun I had the whole weekend long, I would say that that list is very short, much shorter than my "things that tom shouldn't change for KICKASS ever" list
So, yeah, haven't played much. Not feeling that motivated to play, either. I need a few more days. I feel like I'm going to be weak and feeble when I play (even though, all things considered, I'm at the top of my game right now). I should stop bitching, and have a good shred tomorrow.

My first circle round ever was in Portland, against Penske, Genz, and a young upstart named James Randall. I was definitely intimidated, but it's such a familiar format! Circle competition is like home base for me, it's exactly what I go for when I shred with the RFA. I'm glad you were there to show people the diverse styles present in the RFA. There's some great shots of you shredding on SGart.com, you should check it out. We've got some great shots on there for the RFA site, if Aaron approves. The ones of you in the Homestar shirt are the best. Mine are blurry, but I like the one where I'm beatboxing and will is hitting a joint in the background.

played for two days in a row. My legs aren't feeling so hot, but then, neither is the rest of me. Yesterday, I hit backside fog for the first time, and today I hit it second try. Kinda close on the flip. There was minimal turning on the ones I hit, so think they were pretty clean. My spenders were on today, hit them bsos a bunch. Also hit whirlwind on both sides on consecutive tries. That as fun.

My new Peng bag feels like a choice lonn. I'm so pleased with it.
I'm playing with a new set of climacools. I've laced them slightly differently than my last set. This new way allows for easier swirling sets, and reduces the cheater spot (top clipper rail that acts as a backstop for overcranked catches). I like it, I think I'm going to stick with it. my friend took a bunch of pictures of my climas, but he can't figure out how to send them to me. It fucking sucks that I lost my camera in Portland.
AND IT REALLY FUCKING SUCKS THAT NOAH JAY-BONN WON'T RETURN MY PHONE CALLS AND TALK TO ME ABOUT IT AT ALL! God, why is he being such an asshole? I'm going to call him right now.

Haven't played since my last post. My game has been shit since I took a break before KICKASS. So, I'm taking some down time right now. Haven't stitched either, I've been focusing on my guitar. I tend to hunch my shoulders when I stitch, and I think that really contributed to the big upper body lockup I had before finals in Kingston.
I've been feeling a bit sick lately, so I'm looking forward to taking some time to recover and coming back strong in a week or two so I can prepare for circle contest at Cornell. I really should be stitching, though. I tried to stitch yesterday at a bistro, but I got caught up in my social life. That's cool, though.

I stitched 9 panels (thereby completing) #52 yesterday, and then did 7 pents on #53, which I finished today. #52 was like my warmup bag to get back into stitching after breaking since just after KICKASS, so I'll be keeping that one for myself (also, I need one of my own to boot around). #53 is much more even and beautiful and better than #52, and I used a pattern that I had never done before, which I completed correctly without using pictures. Hey matthew. Currently I am very much into footbag. Probably because I have two freinds who just started and are way into it more than me. Seeing how you have been. just had my first real session in at least a week and a half. I've hardly played since KICKASS. it went pretty well, I had no shred whatsoever, but some new moves and links...
I hit spin whirl > spender > handcatch > flip spin whirl > spender. That's the first time I've ever hit that link on either side. I also hit clipper kick set spender both sides. Maelstrom was almost effortless.
So, my control was good, but my endurance was shit. I'm afraid that I won't be playing very well at cornell, but maybe if I don't smoke for a few days, my lungs will clear out and I can get better. hip hurts. time for ibuprofin.

Looks like you and me are on the same boat, buddy. My ankle is kind of fucked from two weeks ago, and even after Kickass I didn't get much time to train. I've been smoking a bunch, and my endurance is wayyyy down now.

The show last night was good. Greenwood tore it up, I couldn't believe how long and sweet his runs were. I did shitty, and Erik did well, really consistent. It's going to be a fun video, especially if they include the part where we were on stage for a minute or so without music, just milling around and babbling, waiting for the DJ.
After the show, a rep from YTV, a national canadian TV station, asked Greenwood and I to be filmed for an appearance on TV on Monday! and some producers / promoters with a Toronto based group asked me to audition for them on Sunday! This has been a super exciting video...
today I rest. all I have to do today is cash a check and make a phone call. I'm going to walk around and catch up with friends and hopefully play footbag with FAT later. That's pretty much the plan. Hopefully, we'll all party after that, too. Today is day 4 with no smoking. My voice is feeling a bit better, but I'm still sick. I'll need some vitamin C and good tea from Erik's coffee shop in a bit. I'm not too sick, just slightly congested. I'll get some breakfast, and be fine. also, just took pseudoephedrine, and I can tell it's working by the amount of extra typing I'm doing right now, because it makes me so speedy. so I'm going to stop. Hopefully, shred will rock tonight.
