Today is the first time in forever that footbag didn't feel like, amazing. Mainly the after-shred, whenever I was teaching one of my friends the basics. He hit his first legover-legover, which was in my opinion big.

Anyway, my awkward feeling started to develop sometime around NYJ, where I realized I wasn't good at footbag. I mean, in my opinion good at footbag basically means, pick up the bag, and hit whatever you want without a problem. However, when I am in my basement, with no spectators I only remember that "Yeah, I hit ____", so I have the false illusion that I am in my opinion, "good". I get to a place like NYJ, and I can't do something as simple as 20 infinities first try, wait a minute, fifth try, and more, and I realize that "wow, I am no where that I thought I was". WHen I was asked to hit 20 infinities, I figured it would be a "pfft", ok, kind of moment. 100% confidence struck me, and then well, that confidence plummeted rather quickly.

So today I finished my session, and now thinking about it afterwards I could tell I was beginninng to feel weird. FOr the last week and a half I've done virtually nothing but low level guiltless and drilled as many links as I could. IN this, I realized that well, in virtually every aspect of my game, even the aspects that I thought were "strong" really weren't. I told my friend that I had to hit something good for him to end the session, and first try I hit blurry whirl and blurriest bsos. I got the feeling I had virtually all of Germany "I am incredible, I just hit __", and completely forgot that the rest of the string was bails. What I should be striving for i "Yeah, I hit blurry whirl and blurriest b2b and with total confidence, and continued to do ___"...

For some reason my subconscious doesn't seem to register that.

So, after everything is said and done, I finished up an essay, which I feel I should get a good mark on, and then crawled into the deep dark corners of my harddrive that contain my old Germany videos. This is where I think I started to feel what I am feeling as I type now. I look at the videos, and I am hitting vortexs', mobius', ripped warriors janiwalkers and other crazy things, and I think to myself "why am I not hitting them now?" then I crawl deeper in the harddrive, into last october, and see myself hitting whirls, pdx mirages and ducking clippers and wonder "Why am I drilling those now?...

It kind of makes me feel like I have wasted the last year, because I am back where I started.

So I think to myself "how do I make this feeling go away, or who could I talk to about it". First, the people who came to mind were Dave and Jorden, because they have both expressed their bad times when they don't feel good about footbag, and then a bit later they just explode and are amazing again. So I sign onto the computer, and see if either one of them are on, and figure I could talk through it with them. IN the back of my mind I knew that talking to them wouldn't be a magical potion that would make me feel instantly better and be hitting crazy stuff that would, in a way, make me superficially happy; but I wanted to ignore this feeling. As I loaded everything I realized that this was actual reality, and that what I am doing is likely the best solution to my problem, drill like a maniac so that come time I am drilling the hard stuff, months from now, I can get the "incredible" feeling every contact of a string.

I am now kind of wondering what I really want out of footbag. The biggest part of me just says "absolute control and possession of the footbag, so I could do anything I wanted with it" and I think this is what the feeling should probably be.

So I guess the comfort in the fact that I am sure every player who has gotten good has went through the "I suck" stage, is nice. I also know that every player who has had that feeling and gotten good drilled and practised their way into becoming what I want to be. The problem I think is with myself is that I have always gotten the rsults I wanted out of minimal work, ust a semesters worth of effort for a good mark, or a summers worth of work for a nice paycheck..But I've never had something like a girlfriend or footbag that actually takes alot of hard work and time in order to get the results that we often see T.V. stars achieve after an inspirational moment of truth, and defeating the problem they had.

So whenever I over-come footbag, and finally become the player I want to be I am sure that things in the future, whether it be careers or "significant others" will become more routine, and less of a depress-or because I'll actually know what accumulation and effort produces. I guess if that fails though, I can go in my basement and hit all of the "crazy links" I've always dreamt of to boost my self esteem.

Oddly pathetic? In a way I say yes, because in one way I say the only reason I wrote this is to get comfort out of someone, and then in another way I say that if I hadn't of putting these thoughts down physically, (well, digitally) that I might have continued on the "I suck" wavelength, and continued to be in a bad mood.

I wonder what I'm going to be thinking after tomorrow's session.
____

On a "fuck" 'wavelength', I just had firefox freeze on me, so quickly I re-wrote all of my post in notepad so that I could have all the points I wanted to make. Then I open firefox up again, and find that the "restore session" loaded my entire post again.

Good thing and a bad thing I guess.

Wednesday, the 9th 2008.

I went into the basement with a certain PM in mind, and kept on drilling. There was no thought in my mind that I'd stop, but the PM pushed me to play for an hour and a half, when I probably should've been sleeping.

Every single trick I could think of, that involved no more than 1 dex/movement into a swirl. So, ducking clipper, gyro clipper, whirl, drifter, stepping ss clipper, blah blah blah.

I got most of them first try. My favourite was osis->swirl first try, as osis->anything = more difficult,. Swirl->swirl after all of this was SO much easier than, yesterday.

I also practised pixie for the first 30 minutes, where, I figured that I should set them higher so I have more time to just tuck a mirage or something in there. I have heard some people say you should set anything just as high as you need to, but for whatever reason I think I look smoother when I hit tricks having all the time in the world.

Yesterdays best drill,

whirl->opp clip->whirl->opp clip->whirl->ducking clip->whirl->ducking clip->whirl->alt clip->swirl->alt clip->swirl->ducking clip->swirl->ducking clip->swirl->swirl.

For whatever reason, like always with me, the harder variation of the trick seems to have came first. So, pdx whirls are easer for me than whirls, barflies are easer than paradons, pdx drifters were easier than drifters, far butterfly swirls are easier than swirls, etc. So, it did feel like an accomplishment to get all of the whirls in that drill.

How whirls have troubled me.

Today's (thursday's) goal ->That same drill, with half the effort.

Thanks Dave.

Thursday, the 10th 2008.

So, I went downstairs and didn't have much energy. I figured that I would warm up slowly, and started doing alot of kicks and toe stalls. I never really felt like I was getting warmed up. I then proceeded to try and get a bunch of consecutive clippers, and noticed that I was somehow, to tired to concentrate on those.

So, osis and gyro clipper were today's points of interest. I figured that, ok, if an osis goes like such,

Set bag straight up and down->while bag is peaking get your osis foot cranked and under the bag->as the bag falls you make sure it is hitting your clipper spot->turn and cushion the bag->complete the turn, and set the bag straight up.

Then how come gyro clipper couldn't be,

Delay the bag->hold it in cranked position and force foot upwards->turn shoulders to other side of body->watch the bag come up directly from where your other clipper foot would catch it->delay.

Jorden assured me that on a spinning clipper that you would almost drag your clipper toe just above the ground, and then set instead of set->huge turn, and as long as you set behind you and not directly beside you your spin wouldn't be froggy. With this in mind, I don't *think* that I did my gyro clippers today froggy, however, without Jorden's assurance I would have never tried them this way.

I shall make a video of them sometime soon. They feel SOOO much less awkward than my older gyro clippers, and it would be a shame if it was because I was doing them really improperly.

My friend made Gumbo today, it rocked my lunch.

Hitting harder stuff does not equal better. What would you rather be able to hit on command? A super controlled 30 contact run of varied guiltless and tripless. Or a 3 - 5 contact fearless run? I would choose the first and I'm sure most people would. So, don't worry about hitting 5's a year ago and not now.

hey jay, you know i am basicly allways in an "i suck" mood. i think i have never been realy satisfied with my game in any circle i played in, not when i was souber, when i´m in an "i dont care right now" mood after a beer or a sip from a joint i can play like crazy. i guess if you go into a cricle and think "i will show you guys what i can do and you´ll be impressed by me", thats when you suck. cause you dont flow... not now. just do what i do, drill all the basics, i still drill basics like stupid, still i´m not satisfied with my pdx mirage links, so i know i have to drill em, (and someday i can do em even if i´m not focused and not flowing) even if i hate to. its like jorden told me: "do the basics till you get sick of them, then you may be able to do them effortlessly." and when you reach that point you can add more difficult stuff to your drills.
but i am certain you know all this...

i dont know if i have a certain point i wanna show you, thats just my 2 cents for you! :D go drill basics, i know i will!

oh...bout your nickname...bochuck.... :D i dont think jay needs a nickname, i think nicknames are only good if your name sucks or is too long... jay is fine... 8)

Well, exam time is here again. For the last week I have basically went home to go,

Eat something small,
Study till dinner
Eat Dinner,
Study till bed.

So, Footbag has taken a small back seat. I have played every other day, but probably not for more than 1 hour on average.

I am performing a "summative task" for chemistry tomorrow, and I always hear that excersize and a good nights sleep help your brain be at it's peak, so I laced up the lavers and head downstairs for a decent time's shred.

I went down, and said "I need to hit 25 infinties back to back whenever I want" and "I need to hit 25 osis' b2b whenever I want".

I drilled for a while. I got the infinity, but really didn't concentrate on the osis. I hate using osis as a trick, because 99% of the time I use it it is for a bail, and well, I would like to be controlling enough to not have to bail to osis.

For whatever reason, I had the compelling urge to really see what playing with Gunits was like, after I had just switched to lavers for the last 2/3 weeks. Were all of those "support" rumours true? Was doing the trick "swirl" really that much harder? Was the laver toe just "that" much snugger?

Well, I got my Gunits, replaced the insoles and had at it.

Gunit highlights....

25 infinities first try.
25 osis' first try.
Swirl->far swirl bsos.
Far swirl->swirl bs.
Ripstein bs, second try each.

To tell you the truth, every trick felt pretty much the same as if I had been playing in Lavers. The thing that really surprised me was how much LESS feel/response I had with my toe on the gunit.

I am not sure where the idea that swirls were harder with Gunits than Lavers came from, as I found it easier to swirl with them. The only thing I can think of, is that since Jorden told me that I should crank harder, and catch the footbag a little bit more into my foot that there is no difference in the set, and maybe everyone else sets their swirls along the instep of their shoe, in which case the gunit has more of a hook on it.

I just feel faster, and more controlled with the Gunit than lavers. More of the "make the bag your bitch" feeling, if you will :P

Will I stick to Gunits and forget the lavers? I am not sure. On one hand, I figure that if everyone says you should learn with Lavers etc, then using the Gunit would be a huge crutch. On the other hand, playing with Gunits was more fun, and the biggest reason I wanted to switch to lavers again was that I thought they would make me have better form, and make my clippers better.

Thoughts from anyone who has switched to and from Gunits/Lavers?

______

Side note..

My school's Physical Education department head, asked me a few nights ago while I was helping the school for a favour. This favour includes me doing a Footbag routine next may/june in front of the school, and promoting doing sports and other acitivites that aren't 'mainstream', and doing them for personal goals and not for other people. Of course, I said I would be more than happy too, and after Exams are done I'll likely start prepairing the routine. I figure, if I want to do good at worlds, it would be awesome to have a routine planned and perfectly done by June-ish, so that from now till then I can just take 15 minutes a session and drill it.

I was thinking of ways to do it, and basically in the style that Clavens did the juggling show was what I figured would be best. Show that it is different than hacky, show basics, do routine, do big trick (I was thinking that by then Ripstein/mobius would be good, because they are both really cool looking, and in reality they are both pretty easy tricks)...

_______________

My plans for this weekend: Get home from Driving lessons Friday, study math chemistry and space science until bed time.

Wake up, eat, study math chemistry and space until extreme boredom.

Footbag, I might try playing in Clima's for the hell of it.

Shower from footbag, eat, study until dinner. Eat dinner. Study.

Wake up sunday, study for Math / chemistry / Space Science. Play some footbag. Eat. Sleep.

Plans for Monday: Absolutely destroy Math summative.
Plans for Friday: Rape Chemistry Exam.
Plans for Next Monday: Conquer Math Exam.
Plans for the next wednesday: Finish space science exam, and start singing in the most violent fashion there is, for I will never have to do an online course again. This particular course has been the largest pain in my ass for the entire semester, and the amount of me that wants to just get it over with is large enough to have it's own gravitational pull.

I wish myself good luck for tomorrow's Chemistry Summative.

well, no expert, but a professor, arent you? :D is space sience cool? like, what do you learn there? is it incorparating space ships and aliens? :D

good luck in all of your exams! also for the drivers license!

i dont know bout switching between lavers and gunits, but switching between quantum and g´s. somehow i cant feel that much of a difference when switching, but i clearly realize the better sole of the goonit and the better clipper (shape of the shoe apearantly). but i´d say learning in lavers then play in goonitz cant be wrong, cause i heard a few people say that lavers are the worst shred shoe, but they force you into a good form! just play in whatever you like, dead cats if it must be... :)

Plans for Tomorrow: Destroy Math Summative.

Anyway, I played some footbag on Friday night, and Tonight and I figured I'd jot some of the stuff down.

Friday:
Drifter->sidewalk*rpt,
I did alot of drills with Drifter / gyro clipper, so I got a couple vortex's.
I did alot of drills with torque / gyro clipper, so I got a couple mobius's.
osis->infinity->drifter*6

Today:
I really drilled swirls, drifters, dlo's, gyro clippers and reverse swirls.

Nicest drill: reverse swirl->opp clip->reverse swirl->opp clip->swirl->opp clip->swirl->opp clip->whirl->opp clip->whirl->opp clip->drifter->ss clip->drifter->ss clip->ripstein->opp clip->ripstein->opp clip.

Drifter->pdx mirage->dlo->butter*rpt*1.5

New Gyro clipper record ( :oops: ) 6.

Ripsteins are just becoming really easy for me now. It is sort of like the relationship between butter from toe, or dimwalk. Neither of them are hard, and you can do both on command, but sometimes you just screw up the first dex. Today, at the end of the session I decided to drill them some more, and I got them both sides first try. I was excited on Friday when I started getting them all over the place, but today, not so much.

I am concentrating on lifting my pixie with my thigh muscle instead of my calf, (if that makes sense...calves can't lift legs...) and then just flopping my foot around the bag for the pixie, and pixie shuffle just feels easy. It doesn't take any effort anymore. Woot.

Goals for next session: more torques, dlo's and eggbeaters.

On a "form" note, I find that taking Jorden's advice on curling my back (into better posture) more makes many tricks alot easier, however some harder. All in all, it doesn't feel natural yet and I wish it would.

Funny, I didn't do a stepping set all day.

On another note...Wow another..

I asked Anz to become part of his training a few months ago, and then hurt myself and told him I'd have to wait. I got confirmation, but it seems that he thought I did indeed get the training, and was lazy doing it. I felt really bad, because, he seemed a little disgruntled however I never received the training. I think training schedules from people like Anz' would be really good for me, because I know my obsessive mind wouldn't rest until I finished everything.

I tried some stuff today. I concentrated on really delaying the bag, and taking my time with everything. I liked it. I didn't do anything that took, effort per se.

Spinning clipper->alt clipper*rpt 20 contacts.
Reverse swirl->alt clipper *rpt 12 contacts.
Swirl->alt clipper->swirl->alt clipper->reverse swirl->alt clipper->reverse swirl*rpt
First and only tries of spinning clipper*rpt was 11 strong, 10 weak.
Swirl, far swirl, ripstein bsos.

I told myself a while ago that I wouldn't try learning the harder variations of tricks until I had complete control over the basics. SO, what Jorden said in a nutshell "Don't try a move until you can hit every component of it".

So, after I hit flipside whirl*15, I decided I'd start to do pdx whirls again. I did all the drills with the intent to have a nice solid handcatch after I did it.

pdx whirl->infinity->*4, both sides
pdx whirl->infinity->infinity->pdx whirl, 12 contacts. Starting from both sides.
pdx whirl->infinity->ripwalk->infinity->infinity, 16 contacts.

Another couple..

Dyno->infinity->infinity->dyno->infinity->infinity->blender->infinity->infinity->blender.

Torque*5 bs. I was really concentrating on doing the torques where you catch it one the sweet spot of your foot, with the crank of a normal clipper. Not the torques where you pull the osis and leap after the set.

Drifter*12
Ripwalk*14

I didn't forget toe. Earlier this week all I did was toe sessions for a bit.. I relearned pdx mirage a bit, for the sake of quantum-ing out of it. I drilled all of the following.,

smear->plo->smear->plo->smudge->plo->smudge->plo->magellan->plo->magellan->plo.
pdx mirage->tripwalk->drifter*rpt.
Blur->legbeater->ripwalk*rpt.
atomsmasher->dlo*rpt (only did it 3 times total.)

I need to get really good with quantum and atomic. I'd like to have my toe game just as consistant with pixie quantum and atomic.

I also made a footbag. I used it for most of the sessions. yay.

Footbag.

So, I'm getting less and less desire to rush towards the computer screen and type wonderful highlights of my sessions. I hope this reflects the fact that I am playing footbag for myself, and how it makes me feel versus, getting the good feeling from everyone else (and feeling blue when no one notices).

Anyway, some things that I have done for the last bit.

Drill. Surprise? Of course not. After I played at Tom's a week or so ago, I realized that I suck with other people. This has plagued me all my career, and I've noticed many times that "I don't suck, it is just that alone I can try that drill 100 times". So anyway, my goal is to bring my level of "suck" FAR higher, to reflect the drills I can successfully complete.

Today I made the decision that my shred sessions will go as follows; until I find some better method.

Warm up - 15 minutes. Typical.
Drill stuff that has been bothering me: 45 minutes.
Try new random tricks, or insane links, whatever. 10 minutes max.
String: half hour.

I figure this way, I can get solid foundation practise, which, is never a bad thing. On top of it, I can drill the stuff I didn't feel comfortable stringing the day before. Sometimes after drilling, I have come to realize that hitting new stuff IS fun, and it DOES push you to progress. I figure that in moderation, pushing yourself beyond your limits, is good. What I mean by "beyond your limits" is not "try this new 4-4-4 link that is really hard" more like, "Learn a new trick you've never tried before, and have fun". I seem to be able to learn any trick I want, assuming it isn't dangerous (eg, symposium components)

I also have forgotten that, well, why do I in fact, "suck" when I go to play with other people. I came to the short conclusion it is because I don't, "drill" stringing. Pure "do what trick feels right, and feel really satisfied and out of breath" stringing. If that is what I want to do at tournaments, why do I not practise it at home?

Also, a thought on stringing. I wouldn't mind input from someone who is a good "stringer". I think that stringing shouldn't be pushing yourself, because then your strings will be short. I don't want to worry about hitting the first 10 contacts in ripping run, rather I would like to KNOW that I would be able to nail 20+ any time I want. With that, at my present level of "string comfortable-ness" involves MANY infinities, and many toe-tiltless. In my opinion, I think it would be better to slowly iron out the tiltless, so that you become comfortable with being truly guiltless, and you would have complete mastery of EVERY trick in your 3-4 add arsenal. This also doesn't mean, "String, and hit 5 adds and don't feel bad about bailing to a toe stall", it means "string, and have a constant flow of complete confidence in the tricks you are doing" so that, by the time I drill stringing enough, I can insert 5 adds and easily recover, or better, not need to recover at all.

So today, for example, I made sure I hit strings of 20+ contacts, but it went much like this.

2 pixie/atomic -> bop -> spin whirl duck dive drifter swirl -> p mirage->tap/easy pixie -> mirage/illusion/leg-> hard atomic/pixie->bop->ripwalk sidewalk blur dyno blender -> bop ...

etc.

Although, it felt really good to be out of breath, and to hit multiple concepts per run, versus drilling the SAME thing over and over. I figure that eventually, I'll have my tricks solid enough that I wont need the time to recover or set myself up with a 2 add.

Also, on ANY trick I dropped on, I did the trick before and then the trick I dropped on -> bop, no matter what it was. Anything I drop on I want to know it was because of random error, not because I COULDN'T do it.

I figure this is a good method, and I figure that I'll ignore any "Don't do tiltless" comments from people, like what happened to Derrick Ogden in his video. That is precisely why, above, I asked for peoples input in my ideal method of string drilling, because it seemed slightly shocking that everyone put so much pressure on him. He almost became embarrased it seemed, and I don't think he should have been. He hits cool tricks and neat links, so what if he throws in a clipper here or there. No one would bother saying anything if he moved his leg an inch and butterflied it. On the same token, if you hit a mirage after a trick, why could someone argue that it was easier than bailing to a butterfly? They are both just as easy of a trick.

I'm confident that me actually realising that, what will make my strings longer, is stringing, will work. I know I know, it is crazy logic, practising what you want to do will, allow you to do what you want to do. Somehow it just never occured to me before, and I figured drilling would solve all my problems.

GAH I just want to play footbag. Like, I'm antsy.

Dyno's and blenders were a focus for me today, I conclude that for dyno, you have to turn ALOT so that the catch is clearly on your foot, and not just using the forward motion of your foot to swing it into the air. You can hit it both ways, but turning allows you to handle the footbag like an osis, which would, I guess, allow you to step/spin out of it ALOT easier.

I also think it is time I learn PS whirl. It is a very "dangerous" trick in my opinion, and I wanted to stay away from it for a long time. So, I figure once my symp. Whirls are really confident on my bad ankle, and I don't have to worry about raping it just because of the impact alone, I'll start to work them. I think I've tried about 20 ps whirls over the course of a year, just fucking around. They are a nice trick.

hi jay,
you want some opinins about stringing and drilling? here's mine:
for me drilling was never fun. since the beginning of me playing hacky I always just did strings, which by the time involved more and more different tricks and links. but last year or so I found myself doing the same things over and over in my runs. my game felt like stagnating(?) that's the bad thing about the "strings-only" training. since I'm a bit more into doing drills,which means max. 10minutes per session (because I'm lazy), strings became a little more variiied.
In the end it's all about your goals in footbag. Drills = necessary to have more variied runs. Strings = why I kick. Overdoing one and neglecting the other will limit your overall progression. I'd say do what you feel is right ;) Your training plan seems okay to me. Just don't loose the fun!
see you in a few month hopefully

pow!

So, I have played footbag just about every day for the last two weeks, and I only wished I played more. By that, I mean that 2 out of all of those days were with some of my friends around, and, while it makes footbag more interesting because you can show them cool stuff, it always feels like, some form of "shred-blueballs" because you know that you are SO close to start improving, by drilling whatever, but then realize that is too boring for friends, and then you have to shower so you can do friend-stuff.

Tobogganing / sledding was really fun this past weekend. There is a condemned road not too far from my friends house, and we got all of our friends together with GT's (Image) and had a half mile of windy downhill goodness to play chinese downhill on. Basically, chinese downhill is when you get two people on one gt, and all go down the hill at once. The one person on the back is the "bomber" who tries to tackle other fellow GT'ers off the back. It is histerical, because with two grown teenagers on one 5 year olds toy, you crash most of the time because you go so fast that the steering no longer works. Either way, I LOVE canada for this. It is also cool, because since we are "big kids" we can do this at 2:00 am.

SO, some footbag accomplishments.

Many many atomic/pixie/fairy drills are coming to life. Atomic and Pixie are ones that I can do nice shuffle drills with, while I haven't bothered with Fairy in so long that I am only hitting the basic stuff with it.

Johnny's nuclear-ss-muted-clipper both sides. I need to work my nuclear alot, because this trick SHOULD be effortless.

Really concentrating on delaying the bag has helped in so many ways, it almost seems like cheating. A month ago osis->swirl*rpt was by pure chance, and now with practise, and today osis-swirl*rpt->osis->reverse swirl was first try, without any warmup of either of the tricks.

Spinning has really come together recently. Tom Mosher's (and I beg you to say this aloud, in an excited Tom Mosher sort of way) tip of "look at how easy spinning should be, you stall the bag, set the bag, spin, and do some super COOL footbag trick out of it!"...

Basically, after fighting it all this time, I realized that catching the footbag like any other clipper, starting to set the bag, like any other clipper, and then a super quick spin makes the world seem so much more pleasant. I think the trick is, to start spinning 1 inch after you start bringing your foot up. This way when you spin, your foot wont snag the bag and throw it nasty places, and you can have the delectable spin all the good players have. I haven't video'd myself yet, but I don't see a froggy foot sticking out, and spinning drills are just SO effortless that I figure I'm doing them 100% more correctly than before.

Gyro clipper feels bad-ass, I don't know why no one seems to do it.

As always, I drilled blenders today and found a new trick of how to dex the bag, which makes it a nice medium of the "extremely quick dex->turn->wait->delay" and the "set, one massive motion to snatch the bag" blender-philosophies.

Anyway, some of my strings today were everything I wanted them to be. I feel so accomplished that some of my ridiculous highlights before I injured my foot, are now part of my strings. Stuff that 4 months ago I tried 1000 times to hit, so I could run to my blog and say "look at me" is the stuff I can hit controlled, and in a string. The strings are also guiltless now, instead of "I did a 5 add bsos, but I had toe delays inbetween them".

I guess what I am most excited about, is that there is no beating around the bush anymore about "I was better at footbag before, I suck", I am better than my previous self, by alot.

I totally overhauled illusions today, because I tried some barflies yesterday, and failed miserably. I was with a friend, so I couldn't just drill them like crazy, but I felt really poor about how I couldn't do them without smacking the bag away. I watched Jorden's "record session" with the illusions, so that I could learn from the best, and I realized after all this time----from a toe-toe illusion, TWO whole adds--- you dex the bag over the set foot, so it goes straight up and down.

Eerie, I know. I somehow never noticed that before.

Anyway, so after tons of illusion drills, straight 2 adds, blizzards, pdx illusions, etc (16 contacts of pdx illusion->butter :p) I felt better about them. I didn't bother with barfly, because I still can't illusion properly! That will motivate me to get them good.

One of my better strings of the day..(note, I start strings with drills...)

Blender->infinity->blender->infinity->infinity->blender->infinity->blender-> string with torque->infinity, drifter->spinning clipper->ripwalk, all bsos.

I decided to test my set-alpine skills today, because I haven't bothered with them in a while.

Fairy ducking, pixie ducking, atomic ducking, stepping ducking, spinning ducking, all still flawlessly both sided. I was happy about those.

My calves have gotten used to stringing now, in the beginning the day after they would have that "tired" feeling. Never shin-splints though, which I was surprised about. After spencos (year and a half ago) shin splints don't exist.

Footbag footbag footbag. I can't wait to go to Montreal in a month and play with them.

Future Sessions: Blenders. I'm sick of changing my form every session. This form is the best. I will be a master of blenders, so that they are not a highlight in strings anymore.

Yeah, good start. This isn't sarcasm. I like it a lot.

I feel the same way. That session out in the hallway was the most educational experience of my footbag life, even if it was just you getting advice. Dr. Sklaggvens is insightful, no doubt.

I'm still not as good as I was in 04, but I'm getting closer to it, and I'm laughing at the notion that I thought I was maxing out back then.

Learn everything!

Also, what's the deal with gyro clipper? Is it peeking osis? I've never understood gyro without a dex.

I revisited some tricks today, worked on others, and here is a wee blabber of all the happenings my basement viewed tonight.

I decided that I'd start doing furious sets again. I notice on my left clipper, furious can be set from kinda anywhere, and on my right clipper if you catch the bag closer to your toe, it works better. I imagine, that if I closely examined both clippers I'd find I have different form for each. Digital note to bring camera for next time.

One of my drifters I noticed doesn't feel as solid anymore. Well, it feels MORE solid in the catch, but the dex feels to swingy. I figure this can't be good for knee's. So, I tried some harder variations on drifter, and I found that if I raise my knee higher I have to do less swing, so, knee raising it is.

Taking all the advice I got on spinning, I found gyro clipper a wee bit easier. So, I figured, Drifter+gyro, and got vortex bsos first try. Weird. Haven't tried vortex in, a month maybe? Let alone not just fooling around attempts..

I also figured that I should start with my routine. So, that is in the preliminary steps. MANY things have been taking into consideration this year, for, last year I think I went about routines the wrong way. Inconsistent tricks = big no no.

I worked on dlo+eggbeaters again, as I have every day this week. Pixie / atomic + dlo/eggbeater drills are becoming alot easier. I think the best way to think about dlo, to not twist, is just to do a nice little hop to the side, as if you were just miraging it. That hop. But then smack a symple legover in it.

I also revisited barfly's paradons barrages and pdx whirls. Barfly's are solid as ever, and pdx whirls are pretty solid too. My barrages were nice and deep, and paradons were just, well, like an illusion bailed to clipper. I don't like it that way, but it is by far the easiest way to do it [in my learnings anyway] I haven't ever practised pdxwhirl->stepping, and I got pdxwhirl->ripwalk bsos first attempt. I assume I am doing it with better form than before, (before = months ago) because before a pdx whirl to stepping was a rarity.

In light of Anz's training program, I figured I'd get a head start on working on Quantums. After some fuddling, I got tripwalk both sides a bunch of times, and eventually I got the "ooh, I dexed it and it is still going up" type of quantum. Saucy?

I got 89% on my first calculus test, 100% on my first history presentation, I estimate a 88% in my first english projects / test, and my physics teacher has yet to teach us anything. There is ALOT of homework this semester, so my day pretty well goes "Get home, eat something small, dabble online for about 10 minutes, homework, dinner, dabble / homework, footbag.

I wish I had more time for footbag, but I'd like to get accepted to University. ~1.5 hours a night just doesn't tickle any fancies of mine.

The new bag I made isn't broken in yet. I want to see the entire lifespan of this bag, before I make any judgements as to whether it is crap or not. I find that sometimes since a bag is from a stitcher, you give it TOO many chances and just tell yourself it is good, whether it is or not. I'd like to become more unbiased in my bags of choice.
